Vernon B. Nissley, 75, of 871 Fairview Road, Manheim, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness.
Vernon owned and operated a produce farm in Rapho Township.
Vernon was a member of Pleasant View Mennonite Church in Manheim.
Born in West Donegal Township, Vernon was the son of the late Raymond E. and Helen F. Brubaker Nissley.
His wife, Arlene F. Rohrer Nissley, died in 1991.
Surviving are a son, Harold, married to Doris White Deck of Silver Springs; two daughters, Ruth H., married to Abram Brubaker of Manheim; and Mary Ellen Lerbscher of Lititz; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Mervin B., married to Esther Nissley of Mifflinburg R1; and two sisters, Alma B., married to Carl H. Snavely of Hershey, and Elsie B. of Lancaster.
Vernon was preceded in death by a son, Barry D. Nissley.

PIERCE, SYLVESTER, Jr., 67, was supervisor
Sylvester B. Pierce Jr., 67, of 2063 Locust Grove Road, Manheim, died Monday morning, May 27, 2002 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, after a long illness.
Until his illness, Sylvester was supervisor of the housekeeping department at Pleasant View. He also was the sexton for the Lititz Moravian Congregation. In his early years, Sylvester farmed in the Chester County area.
Sylvester was a member of Manheim Mennonite Church
He enjoyed walking and traveling to his cabin in Sullivan County.
Born in Penryn, Sylvester was the son of the late Sylvester Sr. and Dorothy Brown Pierce.
Sylvester was married 48 years in March to Mary E. Randler Pierce.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Daniel E., married to Mary A. Wile Pierce of Lowville, New York; John M., married to Dagmar Pierce of Kitzingen, Germany, and Samuel S., married to Shirley Wenger Pierce of Manheim; four daughters, Mary Ellen, married to Eugene Seibel of Bownmansville, Martha Jean, married to Titus L. Halteman of Lebanon, Miriam B., married to Glen Miller of Troupsburg, New York; and Sarah M., married to Barry A. Salem of Lititz; 22 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Also surviving are three brothers, Jay, married to Elizabeth Pierce of Lititz, Luke, married to Anna Mae Pierce of Rheems, and Mark, married to Barbara Pierce of Manheim; and three sisters, Reba, married to Leon Deck of Manheim; and Mary, married to Glen Richard Boyer, and Jeanette Shreiner, both of Lititz.
Sylvester was preceded in death by a brother, Richard.

ROSE, ANNA LORA, 84, native of Scottdale
Anna Lora Rose, 84, of 849 Pleasure Road, died Tuesday morning, May 21, 2002 at Essa Flory Hospice Center after an illness of several months.
Anna Lora worked in marketing research in San Francisco for 18 years. She previously worked in the catering office of the Conrad Hilton Hotel, Chicago. After retirement, Anna Lora worked part-time for the former Ames Department Store in Lancaster.
Anna Lora attended Calvary Church in Lancaster.
She was active in Business Professional Women's Clubs.
Anna Lora was a lifetime member of International Training Communications, formerly known as Toastmistress.
Anna Lora enjoyed reading, music, playing the organ and puttering in the kitchen with new recipes.
Born in Scottdale, Anna was the daughter of the late Edward and Lillian G. King Percy.
Her husband, Morris E. Rose, died in 1973.
Surviving are a brother, Robert E., married to Virginia Stickley Percy of Connellsville; and two sisters, Betty Lou, married to Harper H. Hull of Willow Street, and E. Jean, married to Robert L. Neff of Lancaster.
Anna Lora was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne W. Percy.

Ina V. Shelly, 80, of 171 East Elizabethtown Road, Manheim, died Monday morning, May 13, 2002 at her daughter's home, 39 Longenecker Road, Lititz, after a year-long illness.
A graduate of Empire Beauty School, Lancaster, Ina owned and operated Ina Shelly's Beauty Salon, Manheim, for more than 36 years until her illness.
Ina was a member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rothsville, and enjoyed flower gardening.
Born in Bernville, Ina was the daughter of the late Harvey and Lily Schlappich Kissinger.
Her husband, Charles F. "Chas" Shelly, died in 1994.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce J., married to Joan Boose Garner of Lancaster, and Michael C., married to Diane Lapp Shelly of Lititz; a daughter, Meda E., married to Richard B. Hostetter of Lititz;; eight grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Stella, married to Robert Morris of Lancaster, and Helen Sheaffer of Ephrata.
Ina was preceded in death by a son, Rickard J. Hirst; and two sisters, Fern E. Kleinstuber and Charlotte Wittas.

Margie M. Showers, 87, formerly of Oak Tree Road, Manheim, died Tuesday morning, June 4, 2002 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, following a long illness.
A homemaker most of her life, Margie worked at the former Blake Silk Mill, Manheim, in her earlier years.
Margie was a lifelong member of Ruhl's United Methodist Church, Manheim.
She enjoyed gardening.
Born in Rapho Township, Margie was the daughter of the late John S. and Emma B. Walmer Showers.
Surviving is a sister, Nora R. Snyder, with whom she lived.
Margie is also survived by two nephews, one great-nephew and one great-niece.
Margie was preceded in death by a brother, John W.; a sister, Lomie Leibold; and a foster sister, Emma E. Kretzing.

Catherine O. Weidman, 77, of 1094 Mount Joy Road, Manheim, died at home Saturday, May 18, 2002 after a brief illness.
A seamstress, Catherine worked 33 years for local garment companies, including 19 years with Donegal Industries, before retiring in 1986.
Catherine continued sewing in her home after retiring.
Catherine attended Ruhl's United Methodist Church in Manheim.
Born in Manheim Township, Catherine was the daughter of the late George M. and Mary Smith Ober.
Catherine was married 58 years in October to Lester U. Weidman.
Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Lester O., married to LaVonne J. Snyder Weidman, and Kenneth, married to Lisa M. Knier Weidman, both of Manheim; a daughter, Dorothy F., married to David L. Denlinger of Leola; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are four brothers, Jacob, married to Miriam Clugston Ober of Conestoga, Phares, married to Esther Hershey Ober of Mount Joy, George, married to Betty Fair Ober of Manheim, and Wayne, married to Arlene Pontz Ober of Lancaster; and six sisters, Jane, married to John Herr, and Anna Mary, married to Daniel Shelley, both of Manheim, Sarah, married to Ralph Miller of Thurmont, Maryland, Betty, married to James Lentz of Woodcrest Villa, Helen, married to Glenn Oberholtzer of Mount Joy, and Blanche Mitchell of Schenectady, New York.

WRIGHT, DEMPSEY, 73, in delivery service
Dempsey L. Wright, 73, formerly of Manheim, died early Monday morning, June 3, 2002 at 154 South Broad Street, Lititz, after a long illness.
Before moving to Lititz, he lived in Danville, Virginia for 10 years.
Dempsey worked in oil delivery service for Arthur J. Ulrich Company in Landisville, for more than 20 years.
Dempsey was a member of Manheim Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5956, Germania Band Club in Manheim and Elstonville Sportsmen Association.
Born in Ferrum, Virginia, Dempsey was the son of the late John Rellie and Sallie Effie Sloan Wright.
Dempsey was married to Priscilla Hartman Wright.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Michael, married to Diane Boyer Wright of Manheim; five daughter, Deborah Yarnes, and Janet Eberly, both of Ephrata, Donna, married to Brad Roth of Manheim, Wanda, married to James Hackman of Lititz, and Vicki Wright of Pennsylvania; four granddaughters; a great-granddaughter, and a brother, Melvin, married to Bethel Wright of Danville, Virginia.
Dempsey was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Kauffman.
