Dorothy V. Baker, 87, formerely of Baker Road, Manheim, died Thursday morning, November 21, 2002 at the United Zion Retirement Community , 722 Furnace Hills Pike, Lititz, following a brief Illness. She had been a resident at United Zion Retirement Community for the past six years.
Born in Rapho Township, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Leda Young.
Dorothy was a homemaker.
Dorothy was a member of Mount Calvary Church of Elizabethtown. She enjoyed flower gardening and bird watching.
Her husband, Clarence W. Baker, died January 1997.
Surviving are three sons, James E. married to Charlotte M. Gibson Baker and John G. Baker both of Manheim and David Y. married to Nancy Kelly Baker of West Hampton, New Jersey; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Paul William Brosey Sr., 83, of 146 South Hazel Street, Manheim died Monday morning, November 11, 2002 at Lebanon Veterans Administration Medical Center of natural causes following a lengthy illness.
Born in Lancaster County, Paul was the son of the late Albert Sr. and Mabel Grossman Brosey.
Paul served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he served four campaigns.
In his earlier years, Paul worked for the Sico Company in Mount Joy and farmed. He also worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the Lancaster County area before retiring. After retirement, Paul worked at the Manheim Auto Auction.
Paul was a member of Church of God of Landisville. He was also a member of the Manheim VFW Post 5956.
Paul was an avid hunter.
Surviving are three sons, Paul William "Pete" Jr. married to Carol Myers Brosey, Lititz, Barry L. married to Joyce I. Siltzer Brosey, Landisville, and Brian E. Brosey, Mount Joy; two daughters, Joyce A. married to Glenn L. Bitner of Lancaster and Janet L. married to Michael M. Nettie G. Cassel, 91, formerly of Auction Road, Manheim, died of natural causes on Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at Mount Hope Church Home, Manheim following a brief illness.
Born in Lititz, Pennsylvania, Nettie was the daughter of the late Lane and Agnes Gibble Forney.
Nettie was a baker at Minnich’s Bakery in Lititz for 20 years. She also helped her husband on the family farm in Penn Township.
Her husband, Walter K. Cassel, died in 1974.
Nettie was a member of White Oak Church of the Brethren in Manheim. She was active in sewing circle at the Church.
She was a volunteer for the meals on wheels program for the Manheim Area. Nettie was an avid quilter, and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.
Surviving are two sons, John F. married to Lorraine Gerhart Cassel and Marlin L. married to Susan Buckwalter Cassel both of Manheim; two daughters, Mildred married to Jay R. Nissley of Manheim and Thelma J. married to John H. Wolgemuth of Mount Joy; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lincoln Forney of Lancaster and a sister, Esther Becker of Brethren Village, Lancaster.
Nettie was preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin Forney and Galen Forney; four sisters, Emma Bollinger, Mabel Bollinger, Maria Kline and Nora Lutz; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

DETWILER, DAWSON, K., 73, former Columbia School Superintendent
Dawson K. Detwiler, 73, of 841 Newport Road, Manheim, died Thursday morning, November 21, 2002 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, following a lengthy illness.
Born in York, PA he was the son of the late Stewart S. and Florence M. Keeny Detwiler.
He was the husband of Doris J. Adams Detwiler and they observed their 54th wedding anniversary in January of this year.
Detwiler was the Executive Director of the PA Association of Rural and Small Schools ( PARSS ). Previous to that he was the Superintendent of Schools for Columbia Borough School District from 1980 to1990. Dawson over saw the building of the Park Elementary School. He was an Assistant Executive Director of Lancaster Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 from 1974 to1980.
Dawson started his career as a teacher at Stiegel Elementary School, Manheim Central School District, from 1960 to 1965. He then was principal at Summit Valley Elementary School, Eastern Lancaster County School District from 1965 to 1967.
From 1967 to 1969, Dawson was the curriculum specialist for the Pennsylvania Department of Education in Harrisburg.
He then was Superintendent of Schools Claysburg at Kimmel School District from 1969-1973 and was assistant executive director of Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 for one year.
In 1984, Dawson was named to a state task force studying ways to help small school districts meet Pennsylvania's new high school graduation requirements.
A Manheim Central High School graduate, Dawson earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education and guidance in 1960 from the former Millersville State College and a master's degree in educational administration from Temple University.
In 1978, Dawson received Boss of the Year award from the Lancaster Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association.
An active member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manheim where he served as past president of the congregation, Congregation Council, Teacher of the Men’s Bible Class, assisted in Youth and Lay Ministry of the church.
Dawson was Past Member of Rotary International and served on the following boards, Pleasant View Retirement Community, Columbia Hospital, and the Susquehanna Chamber of Commerce.
His interests included, Golfing, Tennis, and Reading.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Teresa D. Nauman and Tana M. married to Brian G. Brewer both of Lancaster, five grandchildren, one great granddaughter, one brother, Jack E. married to Patsy J. Detwiler of Manheim, and a sister, Donna Lou married to Reverend Carl E. Petters of Charleston, South Carolina.

FAHNESTOCK, RUTH, 90, lived in Manheim
Ruth J. Fahnestock, 90, formerly of Lebanon and Manheim, died Monday, November 11, 2002 at Brethren Village after a long illness.
Ruth had lived at the home since 1986.
She worked three years for Bickles Potatoe Chips, Manheim, and three years as a cook at Manheim Central High School.
A member of White Oak Church of the Brethren, Manheim, Ruth taught in the children's Sunday school class.
Ruth enjoyed flower gardening.
Born in Lebanon County, Ruth was the daughter of the late Jonas and Susan Kettering Kreider.
Ruth was married to Norman G. Fahnestock for 61 years in December.
Surviving besides her husband is a sister, Miriam S. Smith of Palmyra and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph, Isaac, Simon, Henry and Caleb Kreider; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Mary Kreider.

HARTMAN, KENNETH, 83, Brethren Minister
The Reverend Kenneth I. Hartman, 83, formerly of Overlook Avenue, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, died Tuesday morning, November 19, 2002 after a brief illness in Brethren Village, where he lived since 1990.
An ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren denomination, Kenneth served in churches in West Virginia, Ohio and Indiana. He later was employed as a counselor for Midwest Career Development Center, Chicago, and as executive director of Career Counseling Associates, Lancaster.
Kenneth earned a bachelor's degree in 1947 from Ashland College, Ashland, Ohio, and a master of divinity degree in 1950 from Bethany Theological Seminary, Richmond, Indiana. He also completed a career counseling internship and participated in counseling workshops.
Kenneth was a member of Lancaster Church of the Brethren and served as its interim pastor in 1979.
He enjoyed camping, hiking and computers, helping to develp the computer lab at Brethren Village.
Born in Live Oak, California, Kenneth was the son of the late Peter S. and Bessie E. Whitlock Hartman.
Kenneth was married 23 years in April to Esther Heagy Kettering Hartman. His first wife was the late Grace G. Keeny Hartman.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Stefan W. of New York City; a daughter, Dawn S. Hartman of Ronks; a stepson, Joel H. married to Penny Johnson Kettering of Manheim; a stepdaughter, Mary L. married to Leland Wolf of Dayton, Ohio; six stepgrandchildren; a brother, Maurice, married to Grace Hartman of MaComb, Illinois; and a sister, Delores Snader of Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
Kenneth was preceded in death by a stepson, H. Michael Kettering.

Born in Dauphin County, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie Wenger Bamberger.
A homemaker, she was the wife of the late Chester S. Hoffer who died in 1980.
Kathryn was a member of Mastersonville Brethren In Christ Church, She was a member of the Pleasant View Retirement Community Auxillary and the Mastersonville Fire Company Auxillary. Kathryn volunteered at the Re-Uzit Shop in Mount Joy.
She enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States.
Kathryn was an avid reader.
Surviving are two sons, Clair C. married to Beth Ann Straton Hoffer and Harry L. married to Diane Mummau Hoffer both of Manheim, two daughters, Joyce E. married to Gerald R. Brandt, Manheim, Karen J. Larry Lee Miller, 60, of 190 Hossler Road, Manheim died Thursday, November 7, 2002 of natural causes at Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster, following a one year illness.
Born in Lincoln, Pennsylvania, Larry was the son of the late David H. and Mary Wampler Miller and stepson of Martha Ressor Miller of Lititz.
Larry was a machine operator for Alcoa Alumax Aluminum for 38 years retiring in October 2001.
For many years, Larry farmed in Manheim and was a truck driver for McCrackens Feed Mill in Manheim.
Larry was the husband of Lila Jean Floyd Miller. They celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary in August 2002.
Larry was baptized in the Chiques Church of the Brethren in Manheim.
He was a past president of Manheim Athletic Association and was involved Midget Football Program. Larry was a counselor for the 4-H Saddle Cinches Club in Lancaster County. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Elstonville Sportsman Association. Larry was a member of the Federated Sportsman of America and the Dela-Ches Sportsman Association
Surviving in addition to his wife and step mother are a son, Jesse Lee Miller of Manheim and a daughter, Jennifer L. married to Timothy R. Wilson of Manheim; three grandchildren; four brothers, Kenneth Miller of Fredericksburg, Marlin married to Julie Miller and Carl married to Donna Miller both of Elm and James married to Sandy Miller of Ephrata.

For seventeen years Nancy worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Mount Hope Church Home in Manheim.
Nancy was a member of the Mount Hope Mennonite Church in Manheim.
Nancy’s interests included singing, cooking and taking care of her grandchildren.

Scott P. Pavlik, 33, of 2214 Mountain Road, Manheim, died Thursday, November 21, 2002 of natural causes at the Hershey Medical Center following a battle with cancer.
Born in Racine, Wisconsin, Scott was the son of Lerry P. husband of Kathleen J. Burdick Pavlik of Manheim and the son of Annette M. Vogel Chapman of Racine, Wisconsin.
Scott was married to Sandra E. Farabaugh Pavlik. They observed their ninth wedding anniversary on October 2, 2002.
Scott worked as a field manager for Tru Green Chem Lawn in Lancaster for over seven years. He also worked at Chief Automotive Systems Inc. in Manheim.
Scott was active in the Boy Scout Troop #47 in Manheim. He was devoted to his wife and children.
Scott enjoyed woodworking and hunting.
He was a 1988 graduate of Manheim Central High School.
Surviving besides his father, mother and stepmother are a son, Zachary Allen Pavlik and Alanah Brooke Pavlik both at home, a stepbrother, Richard Dean married to Jane Pavlik of Manheim.

Abram B. Siegrist, 72, of 1868 Meadow View Road, Manheim, died of natural causes Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at his home.
He reitred in 1997 after 27 years as supervisor and roadmaster for Rapho Township.
Previously, Abram owned and operated Siegrist Celery and Cantaloupe, a stand at Central and Root's markets. He also drove school bus for Rufus Geib Inc. in Manheim for 12 years.
Abram was a member of Pleasant View Mennonite Church, Manheim and a 45 year member of Mastersonville Fire Company.
Born in East Hempfield Township, Abram was the son of the late Henry E. and Ursula Rohrer Siegrist.
Abram was married 52 years in October to Theda J. Landis Siegrist.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Timothy M. married to Lucy J. Stauffer Siegrist of Manheim; two daughters, Julia M. married to Glenn R. Harnish of Bethel, and Karen M. married to Ivan L. Kathryn moved to Lancaster County in 1967 from the Johnstown area.
Born in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late John and Martha Beeghly McCann.
A homemaker, she was the wife of the late Warren J. Smith, who died January 17, 2001.
A member of Singer Hill Grace Brethren Church North of Johnstown. Kathryn attended Grace Brethren Church of Manheim.
Kathryn enjoyed crocheting and made afgahans for all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

SNAVELY, RICHARD, I., 58, Feed Truck Driver
Richard I. Snavely, 58, of 47 Karen Court, Lititz, formerly of Manheim, died unexpectedly of natural causes Monday, December 2, 2002 at home.
Richard was a part-time feed truck driver for Esbenshade Farms, Mount Joy. Previously he spent 15 years at Graybill's Dairy.
Richard attended Grace Brethren Church of Manheim.
Richard was an amateur photographer and he enjoyed traveling.
Born in Manheim, Richard was the son fo the late Irvin M. and Mary E. Stump Snavely.
Richard is survived by a brother, Robert G. married to Jean E. Baumgardner Snavely of Lititz.
He was preceded in death by a stepmother, Margie Snyder Snavely.

SWINEHART, STEPHEN, worked at Fuller
Stephen M. Swinehart, 54 of 148 North Main Street, Manheim, died Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at home following a long illness.
Stephen was employed by Fuller Company in Manheim for more than 30 years.
A U.S. Army Veteran, Stephen served during the Vietnam War.
Stephen was a life-time member of Manheim Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5956 and Germania Band Club in Manheim. He won many tournaments playing on the shuffleboard team at the Germania Band Club.
Born in Lancaster, Stephen is the son of Lloyd F. Swinehart of Manheim and the late Edna M. Kulp Swinehart.
Surviving in addition to his father are two sisters, Pauline F. Devonshire of Manheim and Christine K. married to William G. Wint of Lancaster; and nieces and nephews.
