O'CONNER, H. EUGENE, 74, MANHEIM
H. Eugene O’Connor - "Two Crows", 74, of 246 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA, died of natural causes Saturday morning September 6, 2003 at Essa Flory Hospice Center following a brief illness.
Born in Maiden, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Texas U. and Bessie Coulter O’Connor.
He was married to Marilyn Schaepe O’Connor for 44 years.
He retired in 1996 as a sales representative for Ephrata Diamond Spring Water Company.
Mr. O’Connor was also a Respiratory Therapist for several hospitals in the New England area.
He was a member of the Lancaster Fellowship, East Petersburg, Pa.
A member of the American Respiratory Therapy Association, National Cardiopulmonary Technologist Association, Kiwanis Club in Farmington, Maine, and the Sandy River Mineralogy Club.
An avid gardener, he enjoyed gourmet cooking, hunting and fishing, writing poetry, collecting rocks and gem stones.
Mr. O’Connor wrote several Native American Plays at the Eicher Center, Ephrata, which were performed.
Surviving in addition to his wife are five sons: Kevin E. married to Darlene Cookson O’Connor of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, Kent R. O’Connor of Portland, Maine, Myles B. married to Anna O’Connor of Manheim, PA, Eric E. married to Kim O’Connor of St. Louis, Missouri, and Gary R. O’Connor of New York; one daughter: Leslie M. Mason of Manheim, PA; 7 grandchildren; one brother: Glenn married to Ruth Connor of West Bury, New York; Two sisters: Bessie Grant of Silver Spring, Maryland, Lois married to Roy Dillon of Schenevus, New York.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Texas, Earl, and Harold O'Connor, and one sister Gloria McDemmond.

SAYLOR, WILLIAM W., 80, LITITZ
William W. Saylor, 80, of Landis Homes Retirement Community 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, and formerly of Manheim, died Monday evening, September 15, 2003 at Lancaster Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late William B. and Nora S. Wenger Saylor.
William was owner and operator of his own farm in Rapho Township for over 38 Years, he also owned and operated the William W. Saylor Floor Covering Store in Manheim for 22 years; previous he was employed at Bomberger’s Store, Elm, in the floor covering department for 13 years.
He was the husband of Florence Good Zeager Saylor and they observed their fourth anniversary in May of this year. His second wife was the late Mabel Wenger Ristenbatt Saylor who died in 1998 and his first wife was the late Esther Mae Long Saylor who died in 1984.
A member of Lititz Mennonite Church. William served as a deacon for 35 years in the Mastersonville Brethren In Christ Church.
His interests included oil painting and flower gardening.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son Jesse married to Theresa Moser Schuehrer Saylor of Lansing, Michigan, step son David E. married to Donna Spear Ristenbatt of Manheim, a step daughter Ruth Ristenbatt married to Elvin Burkholder of Ephrata, nine step grandchildren, one brother, Rufus W. Saylor of Lititz.
He was preceded in death by one brother Eli W. Saylor, two sisters, Elverta W. Groff and Nora Saylor.

SCHAFFER, ANNA MAE, 82, FORMALLY FROM MANHEIM
Anna Mae Schaffer, 82, of Landis Homes Retirement Community, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, formerly of 707 West High Street, Manheim, died unexpectedly Friday, August 29, 2003, at Lancaster General Hospital of natural causes. She had been a resident at Landis Homes for two years.
Born in Bird-In-Hand, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ammon S. and Anna Keener Graybill.
Her husband, John Malcolm Schaffer died in October 1999.
A registered nurse, Mrs. Schaffer worked in the nursing profession all of her life. She was the Director of Nursing at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, for seven years and worked at the home for a total of 13 years.
Mrs. Schaffer worked at the Landis Homes where she was the first registered nurse on staff.
After that, she worked at the Mount Hope Church Home, Manheim, for 8 years eventually retiring in 1990.
She was a member of Manheim Brethren In Christ Church where she was in charge of the prayer chain in the church.
She was a missionary work nurse in Ethiopia from 1951-1956.
Mrs. Schaffer served on the Board of Directors for Nearly-Nu and Meals on Wheels, both in Manheim.
She enjoyed reading her Bible, flowers, flower gardening, cooking, baking, bird watching, singing, playing the piano, and enjoyed the closeness of all her family.
Surviving is a foster daughter, Laurie M. Jordon, Manheim; three brothers, John H. married to Elizabeth Harnish Graybill, Landis Homes, Paul K. married to Grace Herr Graybill and Ammon K. married to Patsy Lee Cawood Graybill, both of Lititz; and a sister, Mary G. married to Noah S. Hurst of Lititz.

Herschel V. Shaw, 90, of 42 North Clay Street Manheim, died Wednesday evening, September 17, 2003 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, following a brief illness.
Born in Freeze, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Allen and Florence Evans Macy.
Herschel worked for more than 18 years at the former Manheim Glove Factory.
She was the wife of the late Hursty Shaw who died in 1990.
A seamstress, she was known for her home sewing and making craft animals, and crocheting afghans. Her interests included flower & vegetable gardening, bird watching, and canning.
Surviving are two sons, W. Allen married to Lorraine Ridinger Shaw of Manheim, and Douglas A. married to Susan Williams Shaw of Penryn, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a step brother, Charles married to Mary Lovelace of Collinsville, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Whitlock, Mary Dollarhite, Dorothy Martin.

Ruth Z. Shelly, 91, of the Mount Hope Church Home, 3026 Mount Hope Home Road, Manheim, PA., died Sunday Morning, August 31, 2003 at the Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in East Donegal Township, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Bertha Zeager Shelly.
Ruth worked as a nurse in numerous nursing home facilities throughout the Lancaster County Area for many years. She also provided private nursing care in many residences in Lancaster County as well.
A member of Mount Hope Mennonite Church, Manheim, she was also involved in teaching school and in the Women's Sewing Circle of the church.
She enjoyed sewing of all types, especially quilting, and at one time was the crafts teacher at the Mount Hope Church Home.
Surviving are a brother, Paul Z. married to Verna Shank Shelly of Brewton, Alabama, a sister, Mary Z. married to Howard N. Brubaker of Manheim, eight nieces and seven nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Menno Z. Shelly

Richard E. "Bud" Sing, 76, of Lancashire Hall, 2829 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA, died unexpectedly of natural causes at Lancashire Hall on Wednesday morning September 10, 2003.
Born in Oil City, PA, he was the son of the late Henry Sing and Dorothy Bleacher Sing Crowther, and step-father Donald Crowther.
Most of his life he was a maintenance worker for several resorts in New York State.
He was a graduate of Lititz High School.
A U.S. Army veteran, he was of Protestant faith.
He was a baseball fan and a avid reader.
He was the last of his immediate family and survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother: Kenneth Sing, and two sisters: Helen Zander, Dorothy Graybill.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

June Sites, 86, of Holiday, Florida, formerly of Manheim, PA, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at the Hospice Center in Hudson, Florida following a lengthy illness.
Born in Mount Hope, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Kate Shue Dissinger.
She was a homemaker most of her life.
Her husband Walter Sites died in 1964.
Her interest included macrome and crocheting blankets.
Surviving are five daughters: Margie L. married to Frances Bennett of Homosassa, Florida, Jean D. married to Charles Z. Enck of Manheim, PA, Joan Breidigan of Holiday, Florida, Bettie married to Jack Safford of Port Richey, Florida, Josephine married to George Shank of Mount Joy, PA.; 17 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandsons.
She was preceded in death by several brothers and step brothers, sisters and step sisters.

Kathy Jean Swope, 45, formerly of Manheim, PA., died Sunday Afternoon, August 31, 2003, at Conestoga View, 900 East King Street Lancaster, following a lengthy illness. She had been a resident at Conestoga View for the past 17 years.
Born in Rapho Township, she was the daughter of Clarence E. and Geraldine H. Hoffer Swope of Manheim.
Kathy was last employed as a horse trainer for Burt Reynold's Horse Ranch in Juniper, Florida. Previously, she was employed as a waitress for the former Indian Springs Restaurant, Lancaster and the former Yorty's Restaurant Manheim.
She was a member at Pleasant View United Zion Church Manheim.
Kathy was a 1976 Graduate from Manheim Central High School where she participated with the Field Hockey Team, and in the Color Guard for the Manheim High School Marching Band. Her interests included Horses, Traveling and music.
Surviving in addition to her parents are three brothers, Gerald E. Swope of Elizabethtown, Garry L. Swope and Shawn L. married to Mary E. Swope all of Manheim, three sisters, Sharon J. Swope of Manheim, Shirley J. married to John R. Gallagher of Elizabethtown, and Shannon J. married to Steven L. Stauffer of Akron.

He was of Lutheran Faith.

WILLIAMS, F. COLIN 72, OF LANCASTER
F. Colin Williams, 72, of 1819 Nevin Circle, Lancaster, PA., died unexpectedly of natural causes Monday morning August 25, 2003 at the Lancaster General Hospital.
Born in Shropshire, England, he was the son of the late Edward and Sarah Faulkner Williams.
Colin served in the British Army for over 26 years, retiring in 1974 as a Technical Officer Telecommunication with the rank of captain after having served in many parts of the world including Northern Ireland, Germany, Malta, Hong Kong, and Holland. His last position was as Chief Technical
Officer with a NATO Counter Intelligence Unit.
In July of 2004, Colin would have observed his 30th anniversary of becoming an American Citizen.
He was the husband of Carla Stirling Williams and they celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary on August 15th. Previously he was the husband of the late Mary Ann Kraft Williams who died in 1995.
Colin was a member of St. Paul's United Church Of Christ, Manheim, PA. He was a volunteer at the Lancaster County Historical Society and also Historian and Archivist for First Reformed Church in Lancaster. Mr. Williams was also well know for his activities in helping many historical societies throughout Lancaster County. He also wrote several books on local history and genealogy.
He was an avid gardener, both flower and vegetable.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, David C. married to Margaret Williams of Blandford, England, two step sons, Michael R. married to Brenda Barnhart Stirling of Carlisle, PA., Timothy R. married to Susan Shilston Stirling of Manheim, PA., one step daughter, Diane married to Michael Koser of Williamsburg, Virginia, seven step grandchildren, one brother, Edgar married to Betty Williams of Brewood, England, two sisters, Muriel married to Eric Bridgwater of Birmingham, England, and Barbara married to Derek Tomlinson of Spain.
Colin was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Charles Williams, and two brothers, Edward and Leslie Williams.

ZELLERS, RUFUS B., 90, ELIZABETHTOWN
Rufus B. Zellers, 90, of 2833 Harvest Road, Elizabethtown, and formerly of Manheim died Sunday evening, September 14, 2003 at his home following a brief illness.
Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Lemon Y. and Minnie Brandt Zellers.
From 1937 to 1960 a period of over 23 years Rufus owned and operated a farm in Rapho Township, during this time he also worked for the former Noggle's Garment Factory, Manheim. Upon his retirement from farming, rufus worked twenty years for the Elizabethtown Area School District as a custodian for the high school retiring in 1993.
He was the husband of the late Ella K. Flory Zellers who died in 1996.
Rufus was a member of the former Pleasant View United Zion Church, Manheim.
His interest included hunting, flower and vegetable gardening.
Surviving are three daughters, Luetta F. married to Milton E. Hess of Elizabethtown, Jean F. married to Levi F. Smoker of Stevens, Marlene Grumbling of Manheim, three sons, Lester F. married to Doris Wenger Zellers and Jay H. married to Susan D. Shelly Zellers both of Elizabethtown, Rufus F. married to Louise Shenk Zellers of Columbia, fifteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, two brothers, Woodrow Zellers of Lancaster, Walter married to Arlene Zellers of Reading, four sisters, Emma Walton and Helen LeFever both of Lancaster, Edith Landis of Manheim, and Mary Zellers of Lebanon.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, two brothers, Abram and Roy Zellers, three sisters, Viola Miley, Martha Slick, and Grace Styer.
