Steven R. Armold, 54, of 1355 Furnace Hills Pike, Lititz, died after a brief illness Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Hershey Medical Center.
A Harrisburg resident most of his life, Steven was a guard at the Dauphin County Prison, a taxi driver and an emergency medical technician with the Harrisburg River Rescue Team.
Steven enjoyed fishing, playing chess and making greeting cards on his computer.
Born in Manheim, Steven was the son of Benjamin F. and Clara Knier Armold of Manheim.
Surviving besides his parents are two sisters, Melissa K., married to Larry Reagle of Mount Bethel, and Deborah S. Grundza of Columbia; and a brother, Joseph Duane Armold of Manheim.

GAMBER, RAY R., retired from Raymark
Ray R. Gamber, 85, of 600 East Main Street, Lititz, formerly of Landisville, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 after an illness of several months at Luther Acres, where he lived since 1995.
Ray worked for more than 35 years in the brake lining department for the former Raymark Industries. He retired in 1976.
A U.S. Army Veteran, Ray served during World War II.
Ray was a member of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, Columbia, and the 30-Year Club at Raymark Industries.
Ray was an avid fisherman.
Born in Donegal Township, Ray was the son of the late Abram and Susan Rhoads Gamber.
He was married to the late Ella Hartley Gamber. His first wife, Louise Hershey Gamber, died in 1974.
Surviving are a son, James H., married to Heather Gamber of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Joanne H., married to Mahlon E. "Gene" White of York; three granddaughters; a brother, John, married to Elaine Gamber of Columbia; and two sisters, Grace Winters of Manheim and Minnie Gamber of Mount Joy.
Ray was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Salem and Carl; and a sister, Martha Winters.

Marcia worked for Lift-All Corporation in Landisville.
Born in Hershey, Marcia was the daughter of Glenn M. and Janice Geesaman Weidler of Palmyra.
Surviving besides her parents are three daughters, Jennifer L. Pickett of Fredericksburg and Melissa M. Pickett and Deven C. Shelly, both of Manheim; two brothers, Scott B., married to Amy Weidler, and Glenn A., married to Michelle L. Weidler, both of Palmyra; two sisters, Tracy L, married to Louis Paioletti of Hershey, and Beverly K. Weidler of Harrisburg; and parental grandmother Christabell Weidler of Palmyra.
The Services for Marcia L. Geary will be private and at the convenience of the family.

GEIB, ANNE, 54, Manheim
Anne L. Geib, 54, of 179 North Pitt Street, Manheim, died Friday, March 16, 2001 at Lancaster General Hospital following a long illness.
Anne was the wife of Jere L. Geib Sr. They celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary on October 26.
A 1964 graduate of Elco High School, Anne worked more than 25 years for United Plastics Inc., Manheim.
Anne was a member of Ruhl's United Methodist Church, Manheim, where she served as treasurer of the Willing Workers Sunday School class and volunteered at many church events.
Mrs. Geib was a social member of Hope Fire and Hose Company #1, Manheim. Anne was a member of the Rambling Roses Camping Club, Manheim, and the Family Campers and Hikers Association.
Anne was an avid NASCAR fan.
Born in Lancaster, Anne was the daughter of John and Vera Eichelberger Brunner, Akron.
Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are a son, Jere L. Geib Jr., Manheim; a daughter, Penny A. Geib, Manheim; and four brothers: John "Jack", husband of Deb Brunner, and Jeff, husband of Patty Brunner, both of Lititz; Barry, husband of Kathy Brunner, Grinnell, Ill.; and David, husband of Tammy Brunner, Ephrata.

Richard F. Gruber, 50, of 86 Ridgewood Manor, Manheim, formerly of Milton Grove, died unexpectedly of natural causes Thursday, April 2, 2001 at home.
A magazine distributor to retail stores in the Lancaster area, Richard worked for Harrisburg News Company.
Richard was a 1968 graduate of Manheim Central High School.
For more than 15 years, Richard volunteered at Lancaster General Hospital.
An avid fisherman, Richard also enjoyed woodworking.
Born in Maytown, Richard was the son of Roy F. Gruber of Manheim and the late Emma E. "Betty" Moyer Gruber.
Surviving in addition to his father are a son, Matt, married to Crystal M. Witmer Gruber of New Holland; a granddaughter; a brother, Ray E., married to Mary M. Dohner Gruber of Manheim; and two sisters, Hazel M., married to David S. Sweigart of Hershey, and Linda S. Goldsborough of Manheim.

HIESTAND, J. LOVERNE
J. Loverne Hiestand, 83, of 70 South Fulton Street, Manheim, PA died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at Lancaster General Hospital following a length illness.
Loverne was the husband of Mary Jane VanWinkle Thompson Hiestand. They observed their 13th wedding anniversary on July 11th of last year. Loverne's first wife was the late Mary E. Erisman Hiestand.
Born in Ayr, Nebraska, Loverne was the son of the late Henry and Charlotte Hertzler Hiestand.
Loverne worked for 35 years as a Prudential Life Insurance Agent in the Manheim area retiring in 1978. Prior to that, he was a milk man for the former Sylvan View Dairy, Lancaster, PA. After retirement, Loverne worked part-time as a driver for the Manheim Auto Auction and the former Carper Meat business in Manheim.
Loverne was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church where he served as past president of the Official Board and past President of the Steward Board of the church. Loverne was Sunday School Superintendent, Lay Delegate to the General Conference of the Evangelical Congregational Church. Loverne served in mission work in Brownsville, Texas to help build churches.
Loverne served as Mayor of Manheim Borough for two terms. He was a member and served as Commander of the Ammon K. Gibble Post #419 Manheim American Legion. Active in scouting throughout his life, Loverne was chairman of the Good Scouting Committee of Manheim for many years. A member of the Prospector Stock Club of Manheim; Manheim Lodge #587, The Lancaster County and Lebanon County Shrine Clubs; Order of the Eastern Star Lititz Springs Chapter #499.
Loverne was a member of the Manheim Historical Society, Lancaster County Hunting Club and past member of the Manheim Jaycees.
Laverne was an avid Manheim Baron fan.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Roger C. Hiestand of Tucson, Arizona and Leslie L. married to Sandra J. Gibble Hiestand of Manheim, PA; a stepson, David J. married to Beverly Light Thompson of Annville, PA; a stepdaughter, Diane E. married to Leon Lamkin of Newark, Delaware; two grandsons, two stepgrandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Cogley of Arndtsville, PA; C. Bernice McFarland of Saluga, PA; and Caroline married to Dr. Richard Bryson of Lancaster, PA.
Loverne was preceded in death by two sisters, the late Helen Woodworth and the late Thelma Drucker.

HOUSER, MARY LEE, helped seniors
Mary Lee Thrift Houser of 309 East Main Street, New Holland, died Saturday morning, March 17, 2001 at home after a long illness.
Mary Lee was the wife of the late Henry J. Houser. Born in Village, Richmond County, Virginia, Mary Lee was the daughter of the late Franklin and Norma Leona Jenkins Thrift. Educated in the Virginia public schools and the Margaret School, Mary Lee moved to Hopewell Virginia during her tennage years where she was active in the First Baptist Church as a member of the Deaconess Board, President of the Women's Missionary Union, Chairman of the Nonie Gravet Circle, Director and Teacher in the Bible Training Union, Sunday School Teacher, Communion Steward, and Choir Mother. Mrs. Houser was a member of the Federal Election Board and conducted a ministry for care of ill senior citizens. Since moving to New Holland in 1974, Mary Lee was an active member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church of New Holland and the Old Mill Bible Camp, Chester County.
Surviving are three sons, Wiley F. married to Connie Tiley Houser of Hopewell, Virignia; Dr. Thomas H. Houser, with whom she resided; and Kenneth E. married to Mary Jo M. Houser of National Park, New Jersey; four grandchildren including Lucy Houser McKenna, married to Shawn McKenna of Lititz, PA and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Houser was preceeded in death by a brother, Richard D. Thrift, a sister, Norma Thrift France, and one grandson, Todd Wiley Houser.

KAUFFMAN, KURT, 52, lived in Tennessee
Kurt Kauffman, 52, of 458 Allen Drive, Kingsport, Tennessee, formerly of Manheim, died unexpectedly Monday, March 19, 2001 at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport.
The Sullivan County Medical Examiner's Office scheduled an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Kurt worked 14 years for Tennessee Eastman Corporation in Kingsport.
Kurt earned a master's degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from North Carolina State University.
A 1966 graduate of Manheim Central High School, Kurt served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Kurt enjoyed hiking, fishing and canoeing and traveled several times to New Zealand and Australia.
Kurt was an Eagle Scout.
Born in Lancaster, Kurt was the son of Kathleen Musgrave Kauffman of Manheim and the late Robert F. Kauffman.
Surviving besides his mother is a brother, Bruce, married to Debra Brown Kauffman of Landisville.

Ronald F. Kelsey, 75, of 546 West High Street, Manheim, died unexpectedly of natural causes Wednesday evening, March 7, 2001 at Lancaster Regional Medical Center.
Ronald retired in 1987 as a press foreman at Lancaster Press. He previously was a printer for NCR, Ithaca, New York, and Lancaster County.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Ronald was a life member of Disabled American Vetereans.
Ronald attended Salem United Methodist Church, Manheim.
An avid Barons and Dallas Cowboys fan, Ronald also enjoyed making ceramics with his wife.
Born in Natick, Mass., Ronald was the son of the late Mirchel and Florence Miller Kelsey.
Ronald was married 55 years on June 8 to Mary E. Cook Kelsey.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Barbara E., married to Dennis L. KNIER, KENNETH Sr., 69, was a die setter
Kenneth E. Knier Sr., 69, of 47 Penn Valley Village, Lititz, died of natural causes Sunday afternoon, March 4, 2001 at home.
Kenneth was a die setter and punch press operator for the former Oregon Manufacturing. He retired in 1993.
Earlier, Kenneth was a molder for the former William A. Miller & Sons.
After retirement, Kenneth worked part-time for Kreider Poultry Farms of Manheim.
Kenneth enjoyed woodworking and puzzles.
Born in Manheim, Kenneth was the son of the late Lloyd Sr. and Margaret Pitz Knier.
In addition to his wife, Kenneth is survived by a son, Kenneth E. Jr., married to Kathy H. Knier of Mount Joy; two daughters, Theresa A. Martzall of Brunnerville and Doris J. Knier of Bird-in-Hand; three stepsons, Carl E., married to Florence L. Jefffries of Lititz, LeRoy M., married to Nancy L. Jeffries of West Virginia, and George A., married to Pat Jeffries of Florida; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Also surviving are four brothers, Richard, married to Betty Knier of Kentucky, Lloyd Jr. of Huntingdon County, John of Lititz and Ronald, married to Barbara Knier of East Petersburg; a half brother, Robert Grimm of Columbia; and three sisters, Mary Knier Showers, Marlene Heagy and Patsy, married to Henry Tshudy, all of Manheim.
Kenneth was preceded in death by a sister, Cass Christian.

Mildred worked at Warner-Lambert Corporation in Lititz for 19 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of Warner-Lambert Retirees Association.
Mildred was a graduate of Lebanon High School
Mildred was a life member of Manheim Historical Society and the U.S. Merchant Marines Veterans of World War II.
Mildred enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States.
Born in Lebanon, Mildred was the daughter of the late Harper and Emma Heffelfinger Pierce.
Mildred was married 45 years to Clarence W. Newcomer.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Janet H., married to William J. Wimer of Lancaster, and Joan L., married to Joseph S. Stasko of Manheim; a son, Frederick A., married to Jeanette Gruber Heagy of Mount Joy; a stepson, Douglas W., married to Linda Messner Newcomer of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beatrice Marinkov of Lebanon.

From 1989 to 1997, Ann worked in retail sales for the Salvation Army in Waukegan, Ill.
Born in Rapho Township, Ann was the daughter of the late Galen F. and Martha E. Drescher Rohrer.
Surviving are two daughters, Robin E. Rohrer of East Petersburg and Linda Singley of Lititz; six grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Rohrer of Manheim; and a sister, Mildred Valenti of Bethlehem.

For many years, Betty was a stocking pairer for Hope Hosiery Mill, Adamstown.
Betty was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Congregational Church, Adamstown.
Betty supported and raised funds for Cedar Grove Chapel, Adamstown.
Born in Terre Hill, Betty was the daughter of the late John R. and Catherine Burkhart Redcay.
Her husband, George S. Stick, died in 1966.
The last of her immediate family, Betty is survived by three nieces, Lucille Myers Willwerth of Terre Hill, Mary Jane Beck of New Holland and Catherine Anderson of New York, New York; and two nephews, John J. and Charles Boehringer, both of Adamstown.
Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey and Elwood Redcay; and two sisters, Mary J. Boehringer and Sue L. Redcay.

BECKER, MICHAEL, 79, Raymark Worker
Michael R. "Bob" Becker, 79, of 116 Mansion House Road, Manheim, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Lebanon Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a long illness.
Bob worked for the former Raymark Industries, Manheim.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Bob was a member of Hope Episcopal Church, Manheim and Manheim Historical Society.
An avid fisherman, Bob was a life member of Dela-Ches Fishing Association. He also belonged to Elstonville Sportsmen's Association and Hemlock Field Archers Association.
Bob enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening.
A 1942 graduate of Manheim Central High School, Bob was involved in the School wrestling program.
Born in Manheim, Bob was the son of the late Michael S. and Estella Shreiner Becker.
Bob was married to the late Arlene Brehm Newswanger Becker.
Surviving are a daughter, Louise Redd of Manheim; a granddaughter; two brothers, Donald, married to Jean Becker of Manheim and Joseph Becker of Rheems.
Bob was preceded in death by two sons, William and Thomas; a stepbrother, Reverend Heber W. Becker and two sisters, Dorothy Becker and Mary Helen Charles.
