Steven R. Armold, 54, of 1355 Furnace Hills Pike, Lititz, died after a brief illness Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Hershey Medical Center.
A Harrisburg resident most of his life, Steven was a guard at the Dauphin County Prison, a taxi driver and an emergency medical technician with the Harrisburg River Rescue Team.
Steven enjoyed fishing, playing chess and making greeting cards on his computer.
Born in Manheim, Steven was the son of Benjamin F. and Clara Knier Armold of Manheim.
Surviving besides his parents are two sisters, Melissa K., married to Larry Reagle of Mount Bethel, and Deborah S. Grundza of Columbia; and a brother, Joseph Duane Armold of Manheim.

GAMBER, RAY R., retired from Raymark
Ray R. Gamber, 85, of 600 East Main Street, Lititz, formerly of Landisville, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 after an illness of several months at Luther Acres, where he lived since 1995.
Ray worked for more than 35 years in the brake lining department for the former Raymark Industries. He retired in 1976.
A U.S. Army Veteran, Ray served during World War II.
Ray was a member of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, Columbia, and the 30-Year Club at Raymark Industries.
Ray was an avid fisherman.
Born in Donegal Township, Ray was the son of the late Abram and Susan Rhoads Gamber.
He was married to the late Ella Hartley Gamber. His first wife, Louise Hershey Gamber, died in 1974.
Surviving are a son, James H., married to Heather Gamber of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Joanne H., married to Mahlon E. "Gene" White of York; three granddaughters; a brother, John, married to Elaine Gamber of Columbia; and two sisters, Grace Winters of Manheim and Minnie Gamber of Mount Joy.
Ray was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Salem and Carl; and a sister, Martha Winters.

Anne L. Geib, 54, of 179 North Pitt Street, Manheim, died Friday, March 16, 2001 at Lancaster General Hospital following a long illness.
Anne was the wife of Jere L. Geib Sr. They celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary on October 26.
A 1964 graduate of Elco High School, Anne worked more than 25 years for United Plastics Inc., Manheim.
Anne was a member of Ruhl's United Methodist Church, Manheim, where she served as treasurer of the Willing Workers Sunday School class and volunteered at many church events.
Mrs. Geib was a social member of Hope Fire and Hose Company #1, Manheim. Anne was a member of the Rambling Roses Camping Club, Manheim, and the Family Campers and Hikers Association.
Anne was an avid NASCAR fan.
Born in Lancaster, Anne was the daughter of John and Vera Eichelberger Brunner, Akron.

An avid fisherman, Richard also enjoyed woodworking.

HIESTAND, J. LOVERNE
J. Loverne Hiestand, 83, of 70 South Fulton Street, Manheim, PA died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at Lancaster General Hospital following a length illness.
Loverne was the husband of Mary Jane VanWinkle Thompson Hiestand. They observed their 13th wedding anniversary on July 11th of last year. Loverne's first wife was the late Mary E. Erisman Hiestand.
Born in Ayr, Nebraska, Loverne was the son of the late Henry and Charlotte Hertzler Hiestand.
Loverne worked for 35 years as a Prudential Life Insurance Agent in the Manheim area retiring in 1978. Prior to that, he was a milk man for the former Sylvan View Dairy, Lancaster, PA. After retirement, Loverne worked part-time as a driver for the Manheim Auto Auction and the former Carper Meat business in Manheim.
Loverne was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church where he served as past president of the Official Board and past President of the Steward Board of the church. Loverne was Sunday School Superintendent, Lay Delegate to the General Conference of the Evangelical Congregational Church. Loverne served in mission work in Brownsville, Texas to help build churches.
Loverne served as Mayor of Manheim Borough for two terms. He was a member and served as Commander of the Ammon K. Gibble Post #419 Manheim American Legion. Active in scouting throughout his life, Loverne was chairman of the Good Scouting Committee of Manheim for many years. A member of the Prospector Stock Club of Manheim; Manheim Lodge #587, The Lancaster County and Lebanon County Shrine Clubs; Order of the Eastern Star Lititz Springs Chapter #499.
Loverne was a member of the Manheim Historical Society, Lancaster County Hunting Club and past member of the Manheim Jaycees.
Laverne was an avid Manheim Baron fan.

Mary Lee Thrift Houser of 309 East Main Street, New Holland, died Saturday morning, March 17, 2001 at home after a long illness.
Mary Lee was the wife of the late Henry J. Houser. Born in Village, Richmond County, Virginia, Mary Lee was the daughter of the late Franklin and Norma Leona Jenkins Thrift. Educated in the Virginia public schools and the Margaret School, Mary Lee moved to Hopewell Virginia during her tennage years where she was active in the First Baptist Church as a member of the Deaconess Board, President of the Women's Missionary Union, Chairman of the Nonie Gravet Circle, Director and Teacher in the Bible Training Union, Sunday School Teacher, Communion Steward, and Choir Mother. Mrs. Houser was a member of the Federal Election Board and conducted a ministry for care of ill senior citizens. Since moving to New Holland in 1974, Mary Lee was an active member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church of New Holland and the Old Mill Bible Camp, Chester County.
Surviving are three sons, Wiley F. married to Connie Tiley Houser of Hopewell, Virignia; Dr. Thomas H. Houser, with whom she resided; and Kenneth E. married to Mary Jo M. Houser of National Park, New Jersey; four grandchildren including Lucy Houser McKenna, married to Shawn McKenna of Lititz, PA and nieces and nephews.

Kurt Kauffman, 52, of 458 Allen Drive, Kingsport, Tennessee, formerly of Manheim, died unexpectedly Monday, March 19, 2001 at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport.
The Sullivan County Medical Examiner's Office scheduled an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Kurt worked 14 years for Tennessee Eastman Corporation in Kingsport.
Kurt earned a master's degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from North Carolina State University.
A 1966 graduate of Manheim Central High School, Kurt served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Kurt enjoyed hiking, fishing and canoeing and traveled several times to New Zealand and Australia.
Kurt was an Eagle Scout.
Born in Lancaster, Kurt was the son of Kathleen Musgrave Kauffman of Manheim and the late Robert F. Kauffman.

Kenneth was a die setter and punch press operator for the former Oregon Manufacturing. He retired in 1993.
Earlier, Kenneth was a molder for the former William A. Miller & Sons.
After retirement, Kenneth worked part-time for Kreider Poultry Farms of Manheim.
Kenneth enjoyed woodworking and puzzles.
Born in Manheim, Kenneth was the son of the late Lloyd Sr. and Margaret Pitz Knier.
In addition to his wife, Kenneth is survived by a son, Kenneth E. Jr., married to Kathy H. Knier of Mount Joy; two daughters, Theresa A. Martzall of Brunnerville and Doris J. Bob worked for the former Raymark Industries, Manheim.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Bob was a member of Hope Episcopal Church, Manheim and Manheim Historical Society.
An avid fisherman, Bob was a life member of Dela-Ches Fishing Association. He also belonged to Elstonville Sportsmen's Association and Hemlock Field Archers Association.
Bob enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening.
A 1942 graduate of Manheim Central High School, Bob was involved in the School wrestling program.
Born in Manheim, Bob was the son of the late Michael S. and Estella Shreiner Becker.
Bob was married to the late Arlene Brehm Newswanger Becker.
Surviving are a daughter, Louise Redd of Manheim; a granddaughter; two brothers, Donald, married to Jean Becker of Manheim and Joseph Becker of Rheems.
