Velma B. Weaver, 72, of 16 Emi Lane Manheim died peacefully surrounded by her family and welcomed into her Savior’s arms on Wednesday January 3, 2007 at the Lancaster General Hospital.
Born in Penn Township, she was the daughter of the late Homer D. and Naomi Miller Bomberger. Velma worked as the manager of the Mount Joy Gift and Thrift for eight years; previously she worked and taught ceramics from her home. She was the wife of Paul M. Weaver and they observed their 52nd wedding anniversary in March of last year. Velma was a member of Erisman Mennonite Church Manheim and in her early years was involved with Women’s Ministries and Sewing Circle of the church. Family was special to her and her life was filled with activity with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, Tina M. wife of Ronald E. Wenger of Marietta, two sons, Jeffrey L. husband of Louann Hollinger Weaver of Mount Joy, Jay Robert husband of Brenda Hess Weaver of Lititz, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a sister Joann wife of George M. Weaver Jr. of New Holland. She was preceded in death by a brother John M. Bomberger.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral from the Erb Mennonite Church 567 West Lexington Road Lititz, PA on Monday, January 8, 2007 at 11:00 AM with Bishop Donald O. Nauman, Pastor John Yoder, and Pastor Andrew G. Miller officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be a public viewing at the Erb Mennonite Church on Sunday evening from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with additional viewing time on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

Anna Keener Hummer
Januuary 6, 2007
FARMER'S WIFE AND MATRIARCH Anna K. Hummer, 96, of 1527 South Colebrook Road Manheim died peacefully and went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2007.
Born in Penn Township, she was the daughter of the late John K. and Mamie Keener Cassel. She was the wife of the late Earl S. Hummer who died in February of 1977. As the matriarch of five generations, she was most appreciated by her family for her flaky pie crusts and good Lancaster County cooking. She was hard working, conscientious and of genuine character in all maters. Anna was a member of Calvary Church Lancaster.
She is survived by, four sons, William C. husband of Donna Byrd Hummer of Manheim, E. Eugene husband of Jeane Stillinger Hummer of Manheim, JRobert Hummer of Lititz, Glenn C. husband of Kathy Fisher Hummer of Manheim, four daughters, Ann Louise wife of J. Clair Graybill, Mary Jane Balmer, Nancy C. wife of Ardith B. Waltz, Carol June Hummer all of Manheim, nineteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. Anna was preceded in death by a son, Charles Lincoln Hummer, a great great grandson Andrew James Meier, a son-in-law Arlin L. Balmer, a daughter-in-law Beatrice R. Hummer and a brother Walter K. Cassel.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service from Calvary Church 1051 Landis Valley Road Lancaster, PA on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 2:00 PM with Pastor David D. Allen and Pastor Jan A. Gingrich officiating. Interment in East Fairview Church of the Brethren Cemetery Rapho Township. There will be a public viewing at Calvary Church on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.

Betty Jean Ritter
January 5, 2007
Betty Jean Ritter, 73, of 363 Memorial Drive Manheim died Friday, January 5, 2007 at the Lancaster General Hospital following a lengthy illness. Betty Jean had been a resident in care at the Maple Farm Nursing Center Akron.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late A. Lloyd and Anna S. Adams George. Betty Jean retired from the Manheim Central School District. She was the wife of John C. “ Jack “ Ritter and they observed their 53rd wedding anniversary in May of 2006. She was a life member of the Manheim Historical Society.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Sharon K. Ritter of Manheim, Renee A. wife of Jan Jurell of Lititz, a son, Shawn P. husband of Robin Heagy Ritter of Manheim, two grandsons, Travis and Taylor Jurell and a niece Sandy wife of Lloyd Boose of Mount Joy.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service from the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square Manheim, on Wednesday afternoon, January 10, 2007 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Alan J. Yudt officiating. Interment will be private in Manheim Fairview Cemetery Penn Township. There will be no public viewing. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service at the funeral home.

Verna Schreiber Carpenter
January 8, 2007
Verna Schreiber Carpenter, 89, of the Danner Home 44 West Ferdinand Street Manheim, and formerly of 132 Fruitville Pike Manheim, died on Monday, January 8, 2007 at the Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Salunga, she was the daughter of the late Oscar H. and Naomi Young Ruhl. She was the wife of late John Carpenter who died in 1978 and her first husband the late John H. Schreiber who died in 1960. Verna retired in 1980 as a sewing machine operator at the former Colebrook Lingerie, Colebrook, PA. Previously she worked at the former Noggles Garment Factory, Manheim and the former Shanks Restaurant, Manheim in the Kitchen service area. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Manheim since 1960. She was also a member of the Manheim Historical Society, Stiegel Roses Senior Citizens Group, Manheim, Pleasant View Retirement Community Auxiliary, Manheim, Leisure Age Senior Citizens Group of Colebrook Trinity Lutheran Church and a life member of the Manheim VFW Post 5956 Auxiliary where she served as Junior Vice President and Trustee and the VFW National Home, Easton Rapids, Michigan. Verna volunteered at the Nearly-Nu Shop, Manheim. Her interest included crafts, particularly working with plastic canvas.
Surviving are two sons, Robert J. husband of Joanna Weinhold Schreiber and John W. husband of Almeda “Mitzi” Weichel Schreiber both of Manheim; three step sons, Robert Carpenter of Arizonia, David Carpenter and Rick husband of Dee Yohn Carpenter both of Manheim; two step daughters, Beverly wife of David Rightnaur of Manheim and Jean wife of George Lorah of Adamstown; a sister, Anna Mary wife of Cyrus R. Peters of Manheim; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; seventeen step great grandchildren and three step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester Ruhl and Oscar Y. Ruhl Jr.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a her memorial service at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ 50 North Main Street Manheim, PA on Friday, January 12, 2007 at 11:00 AM with Pastor William H. Cluley officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Hernley Mennonite Cemetery, Rapho Township. Friends may visit with the family in the Bright Library at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

Betty J. Eitnier
January 15, 2007
Betty J. Eitnier, 81, of United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz, formerly of 103 Owl Hill Road, Lititz died of natural causes on Monday, January 15, 2007 at the Lancaster General Hospital.
Born in Rapho Township, she was the daughter of the late Hossler and Mary Sipling Weidman. She was the wife of the late Paul S. Eitnier he died on March 2, 1990. Betty worked as a sewing machine operator for the former Noggles Garment Factory, Manheim. Her most enjoyable work was with her husband working the family farm. Her interests included reading, collecting teddy bears, Christian, Gospel, and Country music. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving is a son, Jack W. husband of Nancy M. Wenger Eitnier of Lititz; two granddaughters, Rae Ann wife of Richard E. Bromirski Jr. of Ephrata, Karen S. wife of Dwaine A. Horst of Lititz; three great grandchildren, Ricky, Ryan, and Parker; two brothers, Robert S. husband of Ruth Nissley Weidman of Brethren Village, Rev. Amos S. husband of Martha Binkley Weidman of Manheim; and a sister-in-law, Ruth G. Brubaker Weidman of Manheim. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary L. Eitnier, a brother, Ray H. Weidman, two sisters, Arlene R. Gantz and Louella M. Moyer.

John Lehman
January 17, 2007
John Lehman, 88, of Manheim and formerly of Long Island New York died Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Lebanon following a lengthy illness.
Born in New York City he was the son of the late Frederick and Henrietta Lehman. John was an Electrical Engineer and Teacher throughout his life. He designed many machinery and mechanical devices which became patents attributed to him that were used in commercial and in the aerospace industries. His professional career started with American Machine Foundry located in Buffalo, N.Y., later working for R.C.A. Corporation Cherry Hill, N.J., Grumman Aerospace, Long Island, N.Y., and the Controller’s Office for the City of New York. Most recently he was a substitute teacher in math and science courses for many area school districts in Lancaster County. John was a U.S. Army Air Corps. veteran serving in Guam during Word War II. He was the husband of Jennie N. Needleman Lehman and they observed their 44th wedding anniversary in March of 2006. He was of the Lutheran faith and a member of the Babylon Masonic Lodge 793 Babylon, N.Y. A craftsman, John had a passion for woodworking making furniture and design improvements in his home.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Sandra Magnes of Levittown, N.Y., Ricki wife of Larry Monaco of Manheim, two sons, Leigh husband of Sue Lehman of Hillsdale, N.J., Jonathan husband of Mary Klapper-Lehman of Lancaster, eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville PA.

Ruth E. Wolgemuth
January 19, 2007
Ruth E. Wolgemuth, 95, formerly of 2801 Columbia Avenue, Lancaster died on Friday, January 19, 2007 at Landis Homes Retirement Community, Lititz.
Born in Elizabethtown, she was the daughter of the late Enos and Mary Groff Floyd. She was the wife of the late Elam E. Wolgemuth he died on January 16, 1997. Along with her husband, Ruth was owner and operator of Trailer Village Mobile Home Park, Lancaster for over 26 years. Her interests included reading, crocheting and playing the organ.
Ruth was the last of her immediate family. She is survived by a brother-in-law, Edgar Wolgemuth of Peach Bottom, a sister-in-law, Janet Givler Wolgemuth of Manheim and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service at Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square Manheim, Pa on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at 2:00 PM with Chaplain Donald W. Alverta M. Ebersole
January 20, 2007
Alverta M. Ebersole, 91, of theUnited Zion Retirement Community 722 Furnace Hills Pike Lititz, and formerly of Sheaffer Road Elizabethtown, died peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, January 20, 2007.
Born in Lancaster she was the daughter of the late Anna Haus Geib. Alverta was a homemaker on the family farm until it was sold in 1974. She was later employed by Longenecker’s Hatchery in Elizabethtown. She was the wife of Jacob L. Ebersole and they would have observed their 70th wedding anniversary in March of this year. She was a member of New Haven Mennonite Church Lititz. Earlier in her life she helped as a Sunday school teacher. Alverta was an avid seamstress and enjoyed doing table puzzles; other interests included reading and word search books.
Surviving in addition to her husband are five daughters, Clarene M. wife of Elvin B. Boll of Elizabethtown, Doris M. Kriner of Lebanon, Eunice M. wife of Carl Ginder of Mount Joy, Alta M. wife of Harold Moyer of Mount Joy, Joann M. wife of Glenn R. Martin of Lititz, a son, John M. husband of Ava Conner Ebersole of Mechanicsburg, nineteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, a half brother, Christ Geib of Lancaster, and two half sisters, Anna Mary Forry of Conestoga and Martha wife of Austin Saylor of York. Alverta was preceded in death by three great grandchildren, a son in law, Joseph Kriner, and a half sister, Katie Mummau.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the New Haven Mennonite Church 230 Crest Road Lititz, PA on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 10:30 AM with ministers, Luke Martin, Glenn Fox, LeRoy Martin, Lynford Rutt, and Amos Hurst officiating. Interment in Stauffer’s Mennonite Cemetery Derry Township. There will be a public viewing at the New Haven Mennonite Church on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with further viewing at the church on Thursday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.

Kathy E. Farmer, 53, of 517 South West Street Carlisle died peacefully following a short illness on Monday, January 22, 2007.
Born in Lancaster she was the daughter of the late Elam W. and Mary L. Spangler Hollinger. Kathy was employed in the food service industry. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church Carlisle and was a graduate of the Manheim Central School District.
Surviving is a sister Fannie Brenner of Harrisburg. She is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins. Kathy was preceded in death by a sister Debbie Hollinger.

Martha E. Fahnestock
January 24, 2007
Martha E. Fahnestock, 90, formerly of Manheim, died at Brethren Village on Wednesday, January 24, 2007.
Born in Elizabethtown, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Ella Young Ober. She was the wife of the late Paul H. Fahnestock, he died on May 5, 1986. A homemaker, Martha also worked for the Manheim Auto Auction for 25 years and at the Fulton Bank, Manheim. She was a member of East Fairview Church of the Brethren, Manheim, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the women’s fellowship. Martha volunteered at the Brethren Village for many years. Her interests included gardening, crafts and helping others.
Surviving are three daughters, Patricia A. wife of Frank Howell of Indiana, Donna R. wife of Robert A. Roten of Neffsville, Nancy J. Sullivan of Delaware; a son, Dennis R. husband of Carol Fahnestock of Landisville; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and a sister, Esther Wenger of Brethren Village. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paris Ober, two sisters, Anna Gibble and Ruth Lehigh.

Roland officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery There will be a public viewing at the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square Manheim, PA on Monday evening from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm with additional viewing at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 am until the time of service.
