John Spaseff, 78, of 2511 Parkway Blvd., Harrisburg, died Saturday, October 5, 2002 in his home. He was a retired warehouseman for the former New Cumberland Army Depot and the former Olmsted Air Force Base, Middletown. He was a member of Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church, Lower Paxton Twp.; Steelton VFW Post 710; and an Army Veteran of World War II. He was the son of the late Tode and Lenka Dundoff Spaseff. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Kormushoff Spaseff; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

WILLIAM H. LAYTON
William H. Layton, Sr., 82, of 209 Aspen Street, Middletown, died Sunday, October 6, 2002 in his home. He was a retired inspector at the former Olmsted Air Force Base, Middletown and TRW, Harrisburg. He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, a Prisoner of War and was shot down in Germany during a conflict. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Steelton, 487th Bomb Group; and the TRW Pioneers. He was the widower of Carolyn Mae Murray Layton. He is survived by four sons, William G. Layton of Ocala, FL, William H. Layton, Jr., and Duane M. Layton, both of Middletown and Chester P. Layton of Royalton; a daughter, Valerie C. Hetes, at home; two sisters, Marion I. Clements of Hampden Twp., and Doris Rhodes of Montoursville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was the retired Assistant Steelton Borough Secretary and Treasurer, a former member of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Steelton and a member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish. She was the widow of Edgar A. Gould, Jr. Surviving are a son, Lawrence E. Gould, Newberrytown; 2 daughters, Mariann and her husband, Larry W. Bishop, Willow Street and Jane L. and her husband, James T. McGarrity, Lower Swatara Twp.; 3 grandchildren, Erinn T. McGarrity, Michael J. McGarrity and Karen R. Bishop-Hilton, and a great-grandson, Luke T. McGarrity.

Charles C. Brown, 86, of R.R. 2 Newport, died Monday, October 14, 2002, in the Holy Spirit Hospital. He was a retired aircraft inspector at the former Olmsted Air Force Base, Lower Swatara Twp. and the Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he retired. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, member of the American Legion Post #177, Newport, a member of the N.R.A., N.A.R.F.E., and the C.C.C. He also was an avid NASCAR fan, gun enthusiast, and loved camping and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Rachael L. Imbrognio Brown and a cousin Phyllis Trimmer, New Oxford.

Jane V. Acri Kauffman, 87, of Dauphin Manor and formerly of Angle Avenue, Steelton, died Wednesday, October 16, 2002 in the Manor. She was a retired receptionist for the Robert B. Fackler Funeral Home, Harrisburg for over 25 years and was a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 919, Steelton. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Frances Trombino Acri and the widow of Leon K. Kauffman. She is survived by a nephew, Peter J. Acri of Steelton; and several nieces and nephews in California.

She was a former member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and a member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, its Parish Council of Catholic Women and the First Windish Fraternal Benefit Society. She was the widow of Steven P. Vajda, Jr. Surviving are three sons, Joseph A. Vajda of Enhaut, James A. Vajda of Harrisburg and Steve A. Vajda of Middletown; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

She was born and raised in Steelton and graduated from Steelton Highspire High School, Class of 1984. She was a former dispatcher for the Harrisburg Police Department and enjoyed chatting and Emailing on her computer. She is survived by 1 brother, Christopher Lee Lopatic of Harrisburg; 3 aunts, Tina Kepp, Enhaut, Joyce Gregorski, Irving Texas, and Rose Ann Mull of Camp Hill; 1 uncle, Edward Lopatic of Oklahoma City; 2 nieces, Marissa and Montanna Lopatic; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Brenda Lee Lopatic, who died October 29, 2002.

She is survived by 2 sons, David and Don Germeyer, both of Dillsburg; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Felton, Nashville, TN, and Sylvia Earl, Harbor Springs, MI; 1 step-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
