Carl B. Hugel, 93, of Swatara Township, died Saturday, August 9, 2003 in the Community General Osteopathic Hospital.
He was a United States Army Veteran of WWII.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Fred. He is survived by his wife, Isabel H. Hugel; one son Hugh M. Berry and his wife Robyn; two grandchildren Kimberly and Joshua; two sisters, Dorothy Richards and Mae McNamara; one brother, Paul Hugel; numerous nieces and nephews and all of their families.
FUNERAL SERVICES: Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3700 Rutherford Street, Swatara Township, with his Pastor, Rev. Joseph A. Matjesic, 73, of Lenker Manor, Swatara Township, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 in Villa Teresa Nursing Home, Lower Paxton Township.
He was a retired computer systems analyst for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of General Services and former manager the St. Aloysius Club - Steelton.
He was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, Swatara Township, St. Aloysius Lodge #42, American Slovenian Catholic Union, American Legion Post 998 - Lawnton, St. Mary's Club, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #382, VFW Post #710, Verhovay Home Assn., Deutscher Quartet Club, and Past President of the Data Processing Management Association.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia M. Peach Matjesic, one daughter, Shirley Dalina Wilson and her husband Hal Wilson of Camp Hill; one sister Sr. Mary Appolonia, IHM of Immaculata University, Immaculata, PA and two nephews.
FUNERAL SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2003 in St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, with Rev. Msgr. Hugh A. Overbaugh and Rev. Dennis Gill as con-celebrants. Burial Holy Cross Cemetery. Anthony J. Goles, Sr.
Anthony J. Goles, Sr., 85, of 519 N. Second Street, Steelton and formerly of 749 S. Front Street, Steelton, died Friday, August 15, 2003 in the Carolyn Croxton Slane Residence of Hospice of Central PA, Susquehanna Twp.
He was a retired employee of Bethlehem Steel Corp., a Steelton Auxiliary Police Officer and a professional sign painter, donating many signs to local charitable organizations.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II, a former member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, Past Commander of Steelton VFW Post 710, Secretary of St. John's Lodge No. 314 Croatian Fraternal Union, American Legion Post 420, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 382, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 89, St. Aloysius Society Lodge No. 42, American Slovenian Catholic Union, Steelton Lions Club, Baldwin Hose Co. No. 4, Citizen's Hose Co. No. 1, Dauphin Co. Volunteer Firemen'sAssociation and the Steelton Republican Committee.
Jack Lotwick, Dauphin Co. Sheriff has said, "Tony Goles was a fine American and a great Republican. He served his country and his party with a passion rarely seen in today's society." State Senator Jeffrey Piccola states, "Tony loved people and people loved him. He was enthusiastic about everything he did...especially when it came to his community. Tony enjoyed talking with friends and neighbors on his porch. Nothing made him happier. I'll always remember him and his signs. He had one for every occasion: birthdays, parades and political rallies. He was a special person and he will be missed by all."
He was the widower of Johanna M. Sukle Goles and is survived by two sons, Anthony J. Goles, Jr., and his wife, Mary of Steelton and Ronald J. Goles and his wife, Theresa of Middletown; a sister, Sister Mary John, A.S.C. of Columbia; and four grandchildren, Christina Stark, Cynthia Goles, Linda Goles-Long and David Goles.

Anna Fedorchak Gawrychowski
Anna Fedorchak Gawrychowski, of the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center, Revere, MA, and formerly of Harrisburg and Pottsville, died Thursday, August 14, 2003 in Whidden Hospital, Everett, MA.
She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and was the widow of Michael P. Gawrychowski.
She is survived by a son, George J. Hardik of Liberty, NY; a daughter, Margaret M. Petri of Revere, MA; a sister, Mary Steffan of Pottsville; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was a retired employee of Bethlehem Steel Corporation, an Army Veteran of World War II and a member of Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Lower Paxton Twp.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sukley Pinko; a son, Anthony S. Pinko, Jr. and his wife, Regina A. of Harrisburg; a daughter, Jo Ann M. Phillippy and her husband, Thomas D. of Grantville; four brothers, Stanley Pinko and George Pinko, both of Mechanicsburg, Frank Pinko of Hummelstown, and Stephen Pinko of Harrisburg; a sister, Anna Balinosky of Bressler; five grandchildren, Thomas and David Phillippy, Anthony S. Margaret I. Smith Popovici, 70, of Carlisle and formerly of Camp Hill and Harrisburg, died Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at her residence.
She was a retired bookkeeper and hostess for Catalano's Restaurant, Wormleysburg. She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Harrisburg; an avid card player and loving mother and grandmother.
She was the widow of John Popovici and is survived by one daughter, Jann M. Ernst and her husband, Jeffrey of Carlisle; three brothers, Roger Smith, Ickesburg, Leon Smith, Ocean City, Maryland, Richard Smith, Amelia Island, Florida; 2 grandchildren, Katelyn and Jonathan Ernst.

Nettie B. Powell Carnes
Nettie B. Powell Carnes, 88, of Frey Village Retirement Center, Middletown, and formerly of Steelton, died Friday, August 22, 2003 in the Center.
She was retired from the Deborah Dress Co., Steelton and a former employee of Icelandic Products on Steelton's West Side. She was a Southern Baptist.
Nettie was born in Drexel, North Carolina, a daughter of Bynum and Texie Powell. She was the youngest of eight children.
Nettie was an avid gardener and a great seamstress. Her priority in life was taking care of her children and grandchildren. Nettie's gift of love will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Milton W. "Tim" Carnes; two daughters, Sondria N. Shaub of Hummelstown and Deborah D. Keene of Steelton; a sister, Donnie Harris of Drexel, NC; four grandchildren, Ken Jimenez, Kimberly L. Hyde, Michael Keene and Easy Jimenez; and one great-granddaughter, Spring Casondria Hyde.

She was a retired secretary for the Steelton-Highspire Elementary School and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Steelton.
Surviving are three sons, William J. Gardner III, of Steelton, Joseph M. Gardner and his wife, Carolyn of Harrisburg, and Thomas A. Gardner of Steelton; three daughters, Carol A. Coates and her husband, Greg of Oberlin, Susan K. Estep and her husband, David of Abbottstown and Mary Lou Avery and her husband, David of Camp Hill; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Howard J. Beistline of Oberlin and James R. Beistline of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Barbara L. Sultzaberger of Oberlin; two sisters, Anna Jean Morehouse of North Attleboro, MA and Marguerite Dermes of Oberlin; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis E. Warfel Waite, 82, of Camp Hill, died Sunday, August 24, 2003 in her home.
She was a retired telephone operator for the former Bell Telephone and AT&T, and had worked at the West Shore Theater. She was a member of Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid and L.W.M.L, a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America - Susquehanna Valley Chapter, the Ladies Chit Chat Club, and Ding-A-Ling Club and had volunteered at the Capital Area Pregnancy Center and the Arthritis Foundation.
She was the widow of Laurence H. Waite. She is survived by one daughter, Marcia E. Delafield, Middletown; one son, Jonathan A. Waite, Puerto Rico; one sister, Vyonne W. Stephenson, Harrisburg; one brother, Franklin E. Warfel, Camp Hill; seven grandchildren, Laura and Lisa Delafield, Jonathan Edgar and Sebastian Waite, Rosangela, Angeles and Angelica Perez; one great-grandchild Diego Collazo.

She was the widow of George S. Soutner and is survived by four sons, Peter Soutner, Spokane, Washington, George C. Soutner, Hummelstown, Robert W. Soutner, Harrisburg, and Michael D. Soutner, at home; two daughters, Maria R. DeLutis and Dolores J. Henry, both of Hummelstown; 12 grandchildren.

Kenneth N. Goodhart, Jr., age 69, of Lower Paxton Twp., died Saturday, August 30, 2003 in his home.
He was a retired salesman for the former Harrisburg Paper Company and a former tour escort for Wolf Bus Lines, was a graduate of the former John Harris High School, Class of 1952, and attended Temple School of Pharmacy.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Lower Paxton Twp.; Robert Burns Lodge #464, F&AM; Harrisburg Consistory; past Grand Tall Cedar and member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Forest #43; past secretary treasurer of the MDA Foundation for the Supreme Forest of Tall Cedars of North America; Capital Area Scottish Rite Club; Royal Order of Scotland; Hershey Italian Lodge; past president and member of Paxtang Lions Club and past treasurer of the Canada Fishing Club.
Surviving are his wife, Laura Wilson Goodhart; one son, Kenneth N. "Chip" Goodhart III and his wife, Deborah of Harrisburg; one daughter, Lorie G. Meier and her husband, Robert of Lutz, FL; one grandson, Brandon J. Yetter of Clearwater, FL; one sister, Carol Winston and her husband, George of Mechanicsburg; and nieces and nephews.
