Susan A. O'Brien

Susan A. O'Brien, 78, of Wurtsboro died Wednesday, March 28th, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center at Horton, Middletown,NY.
The daughter of George and Laura Brown Peters she was born in Tuxedo, New York on November 25, 1928. She was the widow of Albert W. O'Brien Until her retirement Sue and Albert owned Spring Street Florist, Middletown.
She was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #544.
We looked away, only for a second, and she had slipped away. Gone from her face the pain and anguish of human suffering, replaced with the placidness of restful peace. Long and painful was her journey toward the end, yet to those of us who loved her so, it still came all too soon. Where did you go? I wondered as I looked at her lying there on the bed, so quiet, so still. Is
this the little girl sitting on the milk can in the old black and white photo? Is this the wife and mother who so loved and cherished her family? Is this even the little old woman who sat in her favorite chair in the corner, laughing and telling jokes that no one could understand, even as the cancer was taking her inch by inch? And I thought not. At that very moment of
death, the little girl, the mother and wife, the wise cracking grandmother, had moved on to a higher realm. The physical form left behind to give her loved ones one last embrace, a last touch, a last kiss, the final good-bye in this world. And as I kissed her and said my final good-bye, and watched my sister do the same, and as my heart ached, my soul rejoiced and knew
without doubt:
That if love holds the key to eternal peace then she, our mother, will rest in peace for all of eternity. For she is the essence of love. To love and to be loved is perhaps the best any of us can hope for in this life. If that is true our mother's life was a glorious success. Her life and being and heart and soul, held within it the purest, simplist love I have ever known. Her love of us all, her children and grandchildren and ours for her has kept her here in this world dispite her grae illness and the loss of her beloved
husband, our father. They spent together, side by side, hand in hand, fifty-five years of life. She has missed him more than words could possibly express. She often stood by his grave-site and told him, "I'll be there when I get there." The time has come for her to make that journey. Oh, I Have slipped the surly bonds of earth. Put out my hand, And touched the face of God (John Gillespie Magee) We send our beloved mother off on this journey with great ambivalence. Our lives will never again be the same without her loving presence. At the same time we know our father will be there to meet her: hand in hand they will
make the journey. Together they will touch the face of God.
Sue is survived by her son Niel O'Brien and his wife Amy, her daughter Donna L. Squicciarini and her husband Frank all of Wurtsboro, 5 grandchildren Raymond E. Knapp and his wife Michelle of Cuddebackville, Neil A. O'Brien of Wurtsboro, Shawn O'Brien, Helen O'Brien of Middletown and daughter in law Susan O'Brien-Prosychak of Middletown Graveside services will be Monday April 2, 2007 at Westbrookville Cemetery, Westbrookville at 2 PM.
