Walter A. Harasemovech, a retired store clerk for Fiddle’s Mart in Parksville, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday January 8, 2008. He was 66.
He was the son of late John and Violet Harasemovech and was born on October 20, 1941 in Elizabeth, NJ.
Walter was an Army Veteran serving from 1960-1962.
Survivors include his wife Leucia Kakawczyk Harasemovech at home; 4 sons, Walter of Long Island, John of Liberty, Frankie and David, both at home; 5 daughters, Denise Harasemovech and Dawn Harasemovech, both of Long Island, Samantha Harasemovech of Tampa, FL, Robin Wright of Oneonta, and Jennifer Harasemovech at home; 1 brother, John Harasemovech and wife Theresa of Queens; 4 sisters, Eileen Prevratl and Samantha Knapp and husband Robert, all of Cocoa, FL, Jeanne Harasemovich of San Francisco, CA and Violet Smolinski and husband Thomas of Long Island and 10 grandchildren.
Private funeral services and cremation will be held at the convenience of the family.

Virginia J. Gorman

Virginia J. Gorman, 77, a resident of Hopewell Junction for 33 years and formerly of Mahopac, died on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at her home following a long illness.
Born in Fall River, MA on July 11, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Dr. John J. Gorman and Virginia Martin Gorman. She received her Bachelors Degree from Bridgewater State Teacher’s College and her Masters of Art Degree from the University of Maine. She had been employed as a school teacher for the Mahopac Schools for more than 40 years until her retirement in 1993.
Gini was a patron of the arts with a deep interest in theater and the museums of New York City. She was also a vociferous reader who loved books and dedicated her life to children so that they could learn and experience good books. She was a crossword puzzle fanatic and loved the outdoors especially her time spent in Maine. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Fishkill; the East Fishkill Historical Society; the New York State Retired Teachers Association; and the National Education Association.
Gini is survived by her companion of 35 years, Jean Blauvelt; her sisters, Dolores Repici of Miramar, FL, Joan Kim of LaHabra Heights, CA and Gertrude Ripper of Waterbury, CT; three cousins with whom she spend her early childhood; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.

Sidney Mead
Livingston, NY
Red Hook farmer and farm advocate, Sidney Mead, 83, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Livingston Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born September 11, 1924, he was a son of Gordon and Fay Kennedy Mead.
He spent his entire life at Mead Orchards: overseeing it change from an old-fashioned general farm, through an exclusively wholesale apple orchard, to a modem retail oriented fruit and vegetable operation. He was instrumental in placing the original 100 acres under a conservation easement and was waiting for the adjacent 85 acres to follow suit.
Always advocating farmland protection, he was chairman for 20 years of the Red Hook Town Planning Board as it developed the original planning and zoning regulations. He was president of Dutchess County Farm Bureau and served on the boards of the New York Farm Bureau and the New York Apple Institute.
In 1951 he married Beth Baker of Long Island. They have a daughter, Susan Mead and husband Peter Ferber of San Francisco, sons Chuck Mead and his wife Linda of Mead Orchards and Nelson Mead and wife Kathy of Freeville. Grandchildren are Sharon and husband Thomas Vialle of France, Derrick and Colin Mead of the NY Metropolitan area; and Rachel, Hope and Jonathan Mead of Freeville. Also left behind are a brother, Gordon Mead of Euclid, OH and a sister Elizabeth Bishop of Waverly, TN.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, Jan. 12th, at St. John's Reformed Church, Old Post Road, Upper Red Hook.
Calling hours will be from 7 - 9 PM on Friday at Burnett & White Funeral Home 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook.
Donations in his honor may be given to St. John's Reformed Church, 126 Old Post Road, Red Hook, NY 12571, where Sid served on the Property Committee for many years.

Gloria E. Renaud
Hopewell Junction, NY
Gloria E. Renaud, 72, a resident of Hopewell Junction, died on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Detroit, Michigan on May 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jean Gordon of Glasgow, Scotland. She was a member of the NYS Home Bureau for 25 years and very involved in crafts that she loved to do. She was also a member of the local chapter of Mended Hearts, Inc.
A loving homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother, Gloria married Robert Renaud on April 7, 1956 in Detroit. She is also survived by her daughter, Christine Lehan and her husband, George of Hyde Park; her sons, Robert Renaud, Jr. and his wife, Lori McCarthy of Clermont and William Renuad and his wife, Carolyn of Tewksbury, MA; her sister, Betty Scheck of Bloomfield Hills, MI; and seven loving grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by interment in Union Cemetery, Hyde Park.

Debra R. Giuliano

Debra R. Giuliano, 51, a resident of Hopewell Junction for 24 years and formerly of Ossining, died on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the Wingate at Dutchess.
Born in the Bronx on December 18, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Marie Cirelli Stufano. She was a member of the John 3:16 Christian Center and was very involved with her sons who played football for Roy C. Ketcham High School and their activities with the Touchdown Club.
On October 21, 1979 in Brewster, Debra married Frank Giuliano. She is also survived by her sons, Frank Giuliano, Jr. and Scott Giuliano of Hopewell Junction; her brothers, Joseph Nassani and his wife, Linda, Louis Nassani and his wife, Deb, and Tom Stufano and his wife, Joelle; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. She was predeceased by her brothers, Stephen Nassani and Frank Stufano.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.

Richard W. Barringer
Tivoli, NY
Richard W. Barringer, 85, of Tivoli, NY, died Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.
For many years he was the Principal of the Red Hook High School, where, before becoming principal, he had been a science teacher.
He was a member of St. John’s Reformed Church in Upper Red Hook and American Legion Post #001 in Albany. He was a past member of the Red Hook Businessmen’s Association, and of the Cottekill Fire Department.
Dick was one of the founding coaches of the Red Hook Little League, was an avid basketball player throughout his life. He enjoyed both baseball and bowling as well.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to1946.
Born July 1, 1922, in Cottekill, NY, he was the son of the late Edward and Nellie (Connor) Barringer. He received he Bachelor’s degree from SUNY New Paltz, and his Master’s degree from SUNY Albany.
Richard married Amelia C. Burns on Oct 7, 1949 in Kingston, NY. Mrs. Barringer survives him at home.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter & her husband: Mary K. & Vincent Callahan of Tivoli, two sisters: Frances Rall of Red Hook, and Edna Martinez of Woodburn, NY, two grandchildren: Caitlin Callahan of Tivoli and Timothy Callahan of Port Ewen, NY. Many Nieces and nephews also survive him.
He was predeceased by his son, William, and a brother, Leslie.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, Jan 9th, at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 S. Broadway Red Hook, NY. The Rev. Ryan T. Nace will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at St. John's Reformed Church Cemetery, Red Hook.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM..

Harold E. "Susie" Stephens

Harold E. “Susie” Stephens, 76, a resident of Florida for the past 12 years, and former long-time resident of Hopewell Junction, died at his home on Saturday, January 5th, 2008 in Clearwater, FL. He owned and operated East Fishkill Plumbing & Heating for many years until his retirement in 1995. Harold was an avid golfer at Dogwood Knolls Country Club in Hopewell Junction. Locally, he was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and also belonged to the American Legion in Florida.
Born in Auburn, NY on August 18, 1931, he was the son of the late Claude and Charlotte Organ Stephens. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. On February 3, 1951, he married Viola Fleming at First Baptist Church in Beacon. Mrs. Stephens predeceased him on October 16, 2003.
Survivors include his children along with their spouses, Howard and Claudine Stephens of Danbury, CT; Richard and Colleen Stephens of Hopewell Junction; Kathleen Thibeault and Brad Poster of Hudson; David and Tammy Stephens of Cheyenne, WY; Karen and David Harrington of Bennington, VT; Donald and Elizabeth Stephens of Hopewell Junction; Kimberly and John O’Donnell of Hopewell Junction; and Earl and Gretchen Stephens of Coxsackie. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Jane Cunningham of Marlboro; his brother William Stephens and his wife Helen of Las Vegas, NV; and numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by five brothers, George, Arthur, Earl, Bob, and Richard Stephens.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Ralph Verdu officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Shenandoah Cemetery in Hopewell Junction.

Debra Eve Brozik, a lifelong resident and a caregiver, lost her battle with a long illness on Friday January 4, 2008 at home with her husband by her side. She was 54.
The daughter of the late John and Eilene Dainack, she was born on April 5, 1953 in Monticello, NY.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Mark, a retired Sullivan County Sheriff’s Sergeant; her son. Jarrett Brozik and his wife Bonnie of Nashville, TN; a grandson Chris; her four brothers, Dennis Dainack and his wife Lois of Utah, Stephen Dainack and his wife Denise, Roger Dainack and his wife Mary, and Bruce Dainack and his wife Sue, all of Hurleyville; her aunt Hilda of Jacksonville, FL and Aunt Mary Kile of Montana and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Debbie was the sweetest, kindest and most loving person anyone could ever know. She loved to drive. Since she was a teenager, she spent countless hours riding around the area, taking pictures and marveling at the beauty of all God’s creations. Along with driving and photography, she loved to garden. Debbie has the most amazing green thumb. She could make anything grow, probably from the love that poured from her.
She also loved animals. Over the years, she rescued and nurtured countless creatures with all her heart.Anyone who knew Debbie will sorely miss the goodness in her heart. Weep not for her, for she could not stand to see anyone or anything suffer. Remember the good times you shared with her and the love she brought to the world. Share the love she brought to you with others. She would have wanted it that way.
A celebration of Debbie’s life will take place on Monday January 7, 2008 from 7-9 PM at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St. Liberty. Funeral services will be at 8 PM with Rev. Robert Pinto officiating.Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY.

Charles F. Seargent Sr., a lifetime resident of Monticello, died on Sunday December 30, 2007 at Catskill Regional Hospital, Harris. He was 79.
The son of the late Harry and Augusta Endriss Seargent, he was born on April 5, 1928 in Monticello, NY.
He was a member of Local 269 Pipefitters and Steamfitters Union in Newburgh. He was also a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Forestburgh. Charles served his country as a US Army Veteran. He was the widower of Betty Seargent.
Survivors include a son, Charles F. Seargent Jr. of Monticello; 2 daughters, Florence “Flossie” Seargant of Wurtsboro and Elizabeth Fontanes of Monticello; a brother, Harry Seargent of North Carolina; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Dolores E. Prezzano

Dolores E. Prezzano, 77, a resident of Poughquag for 15 years and formerly of Mahopac, died on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Yonkers on February 13, 1930, she was the daughter of John and Ethel Sackett McPartland. Dolores had been employed as a secretary for Reader’s Digest, Pleasantville for 10 years until her retirement in 1992. She was a parishioner of St. Denis Church, Hopewell Junction.
On September 3, 1950 in Yonkers, Dolores married Charles T. Prezzano who predeceased her on May 26, 1978. She is survived by her children, Charles R. Prezzano of Rhinebeck, Richard Prezzano and his wife, Mary Ellen of Poughquag, and June May and her husband, John of Beekman; her sisters, June Kluepfel and Ellen Budderman and her brothers, Jack and Kevin McPartland. She especially loved her 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Kenneth J. Prezzano, on March 13, 1973.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. She loved horses.
Alice's family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care Mom received while under the care of the staff of the Carlucci Home and on Tower 4 at Orange Regional Medical Center at Horton.
She is survived by her 3 sons .Thomas Muollo Jr and his wife Lorraine of Wallkill., Richard Muollo and his wife April of Marlboro., John Muollo and his wife Laurie of Middletown, her daughter Camille Spannagel and her husband Jim of New Hampton., her brother Robert Palmer of White Plains., 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. and several nieces and nephews.

Florence Worden of Middletown died Monday, December 31st, 2007 unexpectedly at Orange Regional Medical Center at Horton. She was 72.
Born in Wilkes Barre, PA on March 22, 1935, she was the daughter of Stanley and Emily Thomas Edwards.
She retired as a Kitchen Aide at Southwinds Retirement Home Middletown after 15 years of service. She was a member of St Paul's United Methodist Church, Middletown.
She is survived by her 2 daughters Glennda Worden and June Kraiza; her son Glenn Worden Jr , 2 grandsons Michael Worden and Justin Wiley all of Middletown, her brother Stanley Edwards Jr and his wife Betty of Bath, NY several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter Rosemary Worden and sister Rose Mary Jager.

John Nicholas

John Nicholas, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1998 and formerly of Yonkers, died on Saturday, December 29, 2007, peacefully at his home with his family at his side.
Born in Yonkers in November of 1935, he was the son of John and Elizabeth Nicholas. His father died in 1962 and his mother in 2001. He was also predeceased by his brother, Robert in 1995.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Marie Pavone whom he married on November 22, 1981; his brother, Frank Nicholas of Danbury, CT; and his sister, Carol Newsome of Sarasota, FL.
He also leaves four children whom he helped raise with the loving support of his first wife, Nancy, who lives in Yonkers: his son, John III, his wife, Colleen, and their daughter, Sydney of Pleasant Valley; his son, Brian, his wife, Michele and their children, Michael, Brian and Antoinette of Garden City; his daughter, Nancy Kellog, her husband Christopher and their daughter, Krystina of Mohegan Lake; and his daughter, Lisa Cardillo, her husband, Robert and their children, Daniel and Victoria of Wylie, TX. He also helped raise his wife Linda’s two children: daughter, Deirdre Condon, her husband, William and their children, Brittany, Lauren and Sean of Bronxville; and son, Derek Kurtz, his wife, Jennifer and their daughter, Mia of Oradell, NJ.
John served as a machinist mate in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Halsey Powell and was honorably discharged in 1956 after 4 years of service. He was a life member of the VFW Post #375 in Yonkers. He worked as an ironworker in Westchester and New York City out of Local Union #40 for 34 years and retired in 1992. He loved playing golf with his many friends and enjoyed reading, fine music, oil painting, and long walks in the forests and especially on the shores of the ocean.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 12 to 4 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. with Rev. Richard Johnson officiating.

Sofia Caruso

Sofia Caruso, 98, an area resident for 30 years and formerly of the Bronx, died peacefully on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Wingate at Dutchess, Fishkill.
Born in the Bronx on February 22, 1909, she was the daughter of Joseph and Sofia Biscoglia Tuccitto. Working from the age of 14, she held many positions from tailor to nanny. She attended St. Mary’s Church, Wappingers Falls.
On September 2, 1932 in the Bronx, she married Anthony Caruso who predeceased her on September 23, 1959.
Sofia is survived by her daughters, Anita Mangarillo of Poughkeepsie, Norma Smith of Fishkill and Janet Fernandez and her husband, Joseph of Meriden, CT; her grandchildren, Valerie Finning, Doreen Erton, Joann Olker, Judy Alterio, Cynthia Burchfield, Barbara Dymond, Charles Smith, Ellen Michaelis and Jennifer Collingham; 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great, great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her grandsons, Anthony and John Mangarillo.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home followed by interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Edward D. Gabriel
Equinunk, PA
Edward D. Gabriel, a lifetime area resident, passed away on December 25, 2007 in Callicoon, NY. He was 26.
The son of Edward J. and Susan Covart Gabriel, he was born on December 12, 1981 in Harris, NY.
He was a self-employed mason.
Survivors include his parents, Edward and Susan Gabriel of Equinunk, PA; 3 sisters, Dona Miller and husband Jeffrey of White Lake, Lori Cavallo and husband James of Endicott, NY and Karen Borowski and husband Andrew of Cochecton; a brother, Robert “Jake” Gabriel of Eldred; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 3534 State Rt 55, Kauneonga Lake on Saturday December 29, 2007 from 11 to 1 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1 PM with Rev. William Haggerty officiating.
Burial will be in the family plot in Fosterdale Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Daniel Peter Schultz
Middletown, NY
Daniel Peter Schultz of Middletown, NY died December 25, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center -Horton Campus. He was 87 years old.
Daniel was the son of Peter and Mae Pieplow Schultz, born June 19, 1920 in New York City, NY. Daniel was a purchasing agent for Singer Sewing Machine Co., and C & W attachments in New York before retiring in 1982. He was a former resident of Jamaica, NY and a resident of Middletown for 24 years. Daniel was an Army Veteran of World war II. He was a loving husband, father and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Frances Toscanco Schultz of 66 years, his two daughters Ellen Artale and her husband Richard of Mount Pleasant, SC , Arlene Smith and her husband Robert of New Hampton; 5 granddaughters, Lynn, Susan, Karen, Joanne and Jennifer and five great grandchildren Sierra, James, Patrick, Olivia and Rachel.
Cremation was private at the request of the family. There will be no visitation. A memorial mass at Mt Carmel Church will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are under the guidance of the Morse Funeral Home Inc, Middletown, NY.
