Archalous Bakhtiarian Sahakian

Archalous Sahakian of Middltown, a homemaker, died on Tuesday, November 14, 2000 at Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 94. The daughter of the late Hagop and Dirouhje Tellian Bakhtiarian, she was born on January 5, 1906, in Kayseri, Turkey.
Archalous, the Armenian name for "Dawn," was a survivor of the Armenian Genocide of 1914. Left behind in hiding in Turkey as her parents and siblings were forcibly deported to the arid deserts of the Middle east, she was able to survive educating herself through reading avidly. Archalous had an eagerness to learn the languages of the lands where she had to settle during the continuum of her lifespan, including French, Arabic, Turkish, Armenian and some English. She passed her US citizenship test at age 90.
Archalous was married to the late Joseph Emil Sahakian.
Mrs. Sahakian attended St. Ann's Armenian Catholic Cathedral in New York City. In her younger years, she was involved in church activities of the Armenian Catholic ladies group, a talented cook of ethnic dishes and was very gifted at crocheting with an amazing ability to generate her own designs. A family statement read, "She will be sorely missed for a very long time by her loved ones for whom the only solace is the assurance that she is resting in eternal peace."
She is survived by three sons, Ohannes Sahakian, Jacques Sahakian and Elie Sahakian; two daughters, Jeannette Sahakian and Diane D. Szentesi of South Africa; one brother, Nishan Bakhtiarian, of Lebanon; three sisters, Perouz Odabashian of Australia, Aghavni Balian of Colorado, and Berjouhie Kharpoultian of California; and by five grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, at St. Albert's Chapel, Carmelite Drive, Middletown. Interment
will be private at the convenience of the family.

Mary Virginia Geitner, a lifelong resident of Otisville, died on Thursday, November 16, 2000, at home. She was 88.
The daughter of the late Francesco and Jessomina Bonanto, she was born on November 26, 1911, in Otisville. She was the widow of Emil F. Geitner, who passed away in 1989. Mrs. Geitner was a retired bacteriologist who worked for the New York City Department of Health for 45 years.
She was a member of Holy Name Church in Otisville and the Mt. Hope Historical Society.
Survivors include one son, Paul F. Geitner and his wife, Lizbeth, of Enchitas, CA; two sisters, Louise Carhart of Goshen and Jeanette O'Donnell of Otisville; and by three grandchildren, Nicole, Adam and Emily Geitner, and many other relatives.
Friends are invited to call from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, November 20, at Holy Name Church, Otisville. Fr. Peter TranVanPhat will officiate. Interment

Dorothy Louise Drake, a lifetime resident of Middletown, entered into rest on November 13 at Arden Hill Hospital, Goshen. She was 84.
The daughter of Samuel Sheeley and Ida May Wells Harding, she was born November 4, 1916, in Middletown. She was the widow of Russell Drake.
She was a licensed practical nurse for the Middletown Sanitarium. She was a more than 50 year member of the Middletown Salvation Army.
She is survived by her daughter Doris Brink of Howells, and her son, Robert Drake of Howells, three grandchilren, Thomas Brink, Cindy Sunycalb and Lisa Phillips, and nine great grandchildren, Thomas Jr., Gail and Danielle Brink, Sara and Mark Thornton, Amanda Sunycalb, Brandon and Ryan Phillips; two sisters, Maud Barnes of Scotchtown and Helen Morris of the state of Florida, several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Cora Jones, four brothers, and four sisters.

The daughter of George and Sadie Clark Soudant, she was born March 15, 1914, in Greenville. She was the widow of Joseph Danisi.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette McGee and her husband, Kevin, of Middletown, Patricia Doty and her husband, James, of Milford; three grandchildren, Kevin McGee, Jennifer Zicot and Anne Hancock, and one great grandchild, Emma McGee.

William Leonard of Middletown and Boynton Beach, FL, died November 11, 2000 at Mariner Health Care Center, Boynton Beach, FL. He was 91.
He was born December 26, 1908 in Plattsburgh, NY to Amedee and Ida Bucher Leonard. He was the widower of Mary Beriene Leonard.
He retired after 47 years as an electrician for New Haven Railroad. He was a 25-year member of Mechanicstown Fire Company, serving as captain of the fire police and he was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.
He is survived by daughter Clair Semer of Boynton Beach, one son, Donald Leonard of East Meadow, eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren at home.

Mary W. Wright of New Windsor, a long time area resident, entered into rest, Tuesday, February 27, 2001, in Orange County Residential Health Care Facility, Goshen, NY. She was 96.
Daughter of the late James and Agnes Lamont Watt, she was born November 30, 1904, in Glasgow, Scotland.
She was married to the late Gregg Wright.
A family statement read: "She was a beloved mother, devoted grandmother and loving great-grandmother."
Mrs. Wright was of the Newburgh Free Academy Graduating Class of 1923; was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, where she was ordained deacon; was a volunteer for St. Luke's Hospital and the Hospital Auxiliary; and was a member of AARP and the New Windsor Women's Republican Club.
Survivors include a son, James C. Wright and his wife Dora of New Windsor; a daughter, Mary Jane Miller of New Windsor; five grandchildren, Mary Ellen Wright and her husband Jack St. John, Gregg S. Wright and his wife Hillary, Carol A. Wright, all of New Windsor, and Kathleen M. Fabrizio and her husband Anthony Jr., and Nancy Miller-Stelling and her husband Fred, both of Town of Newburgh; five great-grandchildren, Kristen A. Ponesse, James D. Wright, Kayla M. and Katelyn M. Fabrizio and Jordan B. Wright; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers and one sister.

Daughter of the late Peter and Mary Staccio Veneziali, she was born September 9, 1912 in Saugerties, NY.
She was married to the late Alphonse Russe on November 18, 1934 in Newburgh.
Mrs. Russe was a member of St. Francis Church as well as Sacred Heart Church. She also enjoyed volunteering in St. Luke's Gift Shop.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Russe of Florida and Dominick Russe of Newburgh; one daughter, Carolyn Evans of Wallkill; two brothers, Peter Veneziali of Cornwall and John Veneziali of New Windsor; one sister, Doris Brune of New Paltz; four grandchildren, Mark, Elaine, Robert and Charlene; five great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Russe was predeceased by a daughter.

Erika Bowman, a retired personnel administrator for Cintichem Chemical and Union Carbide in Sterling Forest, NY, and a resident of Goshen, entered into rest on Wednesday, February 21, 2001, in Arden Hill Hospital, Goshen. She was 81.
The daughter of Ewald and Anna Burchardt Tholl, she was born November 26, 1919 in Germany.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Boersema of Howells, one grandson, Kenneth M. Boersema and his wife Susan of Westtown, and one great grandson, Kenneth M. Boersema, also of Westtown, two nephews, Robert Tholl and his wife Adrienne of Middletown, NY, and James Tholl of the State of New York; five nieces, Andrea Dente and her husband Anthony of New Jersey, Lisanne Fogel of Connecticut, Charlene Feldman and her husband Mark, of Stormville, NY, Rita Herzog of New Jersey, and Diane Byrne and her husband Michael of New Jersey; several great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bowman was predeceased by her son Gary Bowman and her brother, Ebberhardt Tholl.

Stanley Fox, who retired after 23 years as a state therapy aide with Letchworth Village and for AHRC, died Saturday, February 10, 2001, at Horton Medican Center, Middletown. He was 64.
Mr. Fox war born November 14, 1936 in Brooklyn to Joseph and Ida Simon Fox.
He was a member of the Civil Service Employees Association and served in the Army.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet Bodner Fox, at home, two sons, Jay Fox of Middletown and Randy Fox of Mongtomery, AL; one brother, Louis Fox, of Flushing, Queens; one sister, Jacqui Bodner of New City; one Aunt, Ethel Fox of Brooklyn; one niece and two nephews.

Marilyn Dembia, 73, of Kingston, New York, formerly of Clintondale, New York, passed away on April 7, 2001, at home. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 28, 1928, the daughter of Edward and Gussie Glass Westbrod.
Mrs. Dembia was a homemaker.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Dembia of Huntington, L.I., George Dembia of Kingston, N.Y., and Frank Dembia of Vancouver, WA; one brother, George Wesbrod, of Charleston, S; and also by two grandchildren.

Rosa DeMaria

Rosa DeMaria, a lifelong resident of the area, entered into rest surrounded by her loved ones at home on April 6, 2001. She was 92.
The daughter of Nicola and Francesca Corca Nania, she was born November 12, 1908, in Albi, Catanzaro, Italy. She was the widow of Oreste DeMaria.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Middletown, the Altar Rosary Society and Our lady of Assumption Society.
She worked for 20 years at Classy leather Factory, Middletown, as a machine operator. She is well remembered for her beautiful crochet articles, which she generously donated to the Middletown Senior Citizens. In May 1998, she received congressional recognition for her outstanding and invaluable service to the community.
She was the matriarch of her family and since she never had children of her own, she treated her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as her children. All knew and loved her as she loved them.
She is survived by a sister, Teresa DeMaria of Middletown, whom she lived with for 41 years and who will miss her greatly; one brother, Nicola Nania of Albi, Italy; niece Esterina Amelio and her husband Ralph, niece Maria Levato and husband Antonio, all of Middletown; nephew NickDeMaria and wife Johanna of Monroe, and niece Francesca DeMaria and husband Oresta and niece Elena Folina and husband Dominick, all of East Rochester; niece Angelina Panaro of Albi, Italy, and many great niecces and nephews as well as devoted friends.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Giovanni and Guiseepe Nania and two sisters, Carmella Arnotta and Filomena Levato.

Daniel P. Loughran of New Windsor, an HVAC engineer and a 12-year resident of the area, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Newburgh. He was 42.
The son of Eugene and Margaret Moore Loughran, he was born Jan. 10, 1953 in the Bronx.
Mr. Loughran was a former resident of Park Ridge, NJ. He was a member of Local 30 Operating Engineers, Queens, and was involved in New Windsor Youth Football.
A family statement read, "He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and coach."
In addition to his parents of Park Ridge, NJ, survivors include his wife, Diane Edsall Loughran, at home; three sons, Ryan, Brandon and Timothy, at home; his maternal grandmother, Margaret Moore of New Windsor; two sisters, Theresa Loughran of Park Ridge, NJ and Eileen McGarvey and her husband, Patrick, of New Windsor; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Middletown.
She is survived by her husband Dennis Brighton at home; two sisters, Cecelia Kaleita and her husband Paul, and Madeline Masker and her husband Alfred, all of Middletown; four sisters-in-law, Joyce, Glenda, Madeline and Louise Kozireski, all of Middletown, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predececased by four brothers, Raymond, William, Albert and Charles Kozireski.

Georgianna Watson, 87, of Highland, NY, passed away March 28, 2001 at the Hudson Valley Nursing Center in Highland. Mrs. Watson was born in Michigan on August 13, 1913, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Rezek Kure, Sr.
She was a member of St. Augstine R.C. Church in Highland and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post #6534 in Highland.
She was married to the late Henry Watson who died in December 1988.
She is survived by one son, Steven Watson of Highland, and two daughters; Linda Watson and Georgeana Jones, both of Highland; one brother, Joseph Kure of Lorain, OH, and two sisters-in-law, Sarah Watson and Jean Kure; five grandchildren, Sheileen Jones, Eric Jones, Christina Jones, Alexandra Watson and Loren Watson; two great-grandchildren, Dezirayh Perry and Kyla Watson; also many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Antonette Giarrusso, 89, of Highland, NY, passed away at home on March 25, 2001. She was born in New York City on March 9, 1912, the daughter of Francesco "Frank" and Giavana Paterno.
Mrs. Giarrusso was a member of St. Augustine R.C. Church in Highland.
She is survived by a son Gregory Vito Giarrusso of Wappingers Falls, and her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Thomas Monti, of Highland; her grandchildren, Diana Harrison, Donna Lowery, John Giarrusso and Dawn Freytag; her great-grandchildren, Austin, Shannon and Alaina Lowery, Chad and Mindy Harrison and Melissa Karlyanne Freytag. She was predeceased by two sons, Frank and Vito Giarrusso.

She was a member of the Floyd Carter Post 1079, American Legion Auxiliary, Otisville. She is survived by her husband Nicholas F. Sheil, at home; one son, Robert H. Sheil of Mount Pelier, VT; one daughter, Eileen S. Brown and her husband, Edmund Brown III, of Warwick; two grandsons, Thomas S. Brown of Warwick and Edmund H. Brown IV of Richmond, VA. She was predeceased by one brother, Charles Blake.

The daughter of Marcel and Antoinette Rykowski Plocharczyk, she was born September 9, 1915 in Patterson, NJ. She was the widow of Michael Prystowski Sr.
She is survived by one son, Michael Prystowski Jr. and his wife Estelle of Thompson Ridge; daughters Alice Prystowksi-Aiello and her husband Michael, Millie Prystowski, Frances Prystowski-Petrick and her husband Andrew, all of Middletown; nine grandchildren, Nancy, Dana, Leigh, Anthony, Lori, John, Lisa; six great grandchildren, Rion, Tyler, Kelsey, Lauren, Linzy, Emily; two sisters, Linda Clevenger of Colliers, WV and Alice Rzeckowski of New Hampton, many nieces and nephews.
