Elizabeth Armstrong Brennan, of Port Jervis, formerly of Middletown and Ocean, NJ, entered into rest on March 14, 2001 at home. She was 94.
The daughter of Edgar and Mary Bookstaver Armstrong, she was born February 23, 1907 in Middletown. She was the widow of Patrick Brennan.
She was a 1925 graduate of Middletown High School and a graduate of Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs.
Durring WWII, she worked for the Selective Service Board.She was also employed with the New York State Unemployment Service, Hugo Longhi Accountant and the Middletown Psychiatric Center.
Mrs. Brennan is survived by two grandchildren, Gloria and James Brennan, one daughter-in-law, Jeanette Teller Brennan and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, Edgar Brennan.
Funeral services were conducted by Father james Fallon of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Foley Hine, she was born on December 21, 1897 in Middletown.
She was the widow of Floyd C Bentley, Sr.
She was a graduate of the Middletown School of Stenography and was the first State Secretary for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
She is survived by two sons, Floyd C Bentley, Jr. of Baltimore, MD, and Lorne L Bentley and his wife Iris of Sarasota, FL.; three grandchildren, Millicent Bentley-Memon of Bethseda, MD, Mark Bentley of Alexandria, VA, and Stuart Bentley of Baltimore, MD; one great grandchild, Zara Memon of Bethseda, MD and several neices and nephews.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Florence Dickerson, Marjorie Boyce, and Veronica Rowan.

Ruthann Decker Board, a cook for Seven Seeds Restaurant, and a lifetime area resident of Middletown, entered into rest on June 3, 2001 at Arden Hill Hospital, Goshen. She was 36.
The daughter of Emil Decker and the late Alice Hamel Decker, she was born on June 15, 1964 in Goshen.
She is survived by her son William Board and daughter Britanny Board at home. Her companion, Theodore Walters, at home; five sisters, June Hayden and Cathy Eason of Middletown, Emeley Nicholson of Walden, Barbara Bullock of Livingston Manor, and Yvonne Young of Maybrook; one brother, Emil Decker of Middletown; and several neices and nephews.

Cono J. LoSardo, a retired comptroller for 25 years with Rowley Building Products, Middletown, a 20 year resident of Barefoot Bay, Fl, and a former longtime resident of Middletown, died after a brief illness at Sebastian River Medical Center, Sebastian, FL, on May 30, 2001. He was 84.
The son of Anthony andRose Catalioto LoSardo, he was born June 22, 1916 in Italy. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater where he received the Bronze Star. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Middletown, Knights of Columbus #486, McQuoid Engine & Ladder Company #3, and past member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1097, Middletown.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jennie LoSardo at home; one daughter, Patricia Wells and her husband Donald; one son, John LoSardo of Wiesboden, Germany; three sisters, Molly Auty of Barefoot Bay, Julia Hirst and Marion Morris of Middletown; five grandchildren, Christopher and Kelli-Ann Wells, Michelle & Melissa LoSardo of Middletown, and Heather Bologna of Nevada.
He was predeceased by a sister, Antoinette Marasco, and two brothers, Anthony and Joseph LoSardo.

Pearl G. Howard, a lifetime area resident of Middleetown, a retired supervisor of housekeeping at Middletown Psychiatric Center, entered into rest on May 24, 2001, at Orange County Residential Health Care Center in Goshen. She was 86.
The daughteer of Charles Edgar and Georgianna Hayes Baird, she was born on February 23, 1915 on the Laura Mullock Farm in the Town of Mount Hope.
A family satement read: "Even in pain, she was able to make people laugh! At a recent admissions intake, she was asked about the happiest time in her life, and she replied, "When I got a divorce and spent a month in Hawaii." Asked if she spoke a foreign language, she said, "No, but I can swear once in a while."
Ms. Howard is survived by one son, William H. Howard and his wife, Eleanor, of Bloomingburg; two daughters, Beatrice Smith and her husband Johnof Goshen, and Edna Machnicki and her husband Edward of Middletown; grandchildren Laurie Traverse and husband Blace, Keven A. Goes of Middletown, William Charles Monaco and wife Gabriella of Coburg, Germany, Donna Iorio and husband Jason, John Rivera and wife Susan, Louis Rivera and wife Jeanine; nine great grandchildren, Erich Traversse, Kevin Goes, Jr., Monica Yu Goes, Andrea Traverse, Kelsey, Nicholas and Brianna Rivera, Kaycee and Camren Iorio, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her weekly phone calls and letters will be sorely missed by her life-long friend Carrie Reynolds and "special counsins" Charles Hayes, Audry Rich, Beatrice Dougherty and special friend Jack.
She will be going to that special place beyond to join her siblings and her best friend and beloved granddaughter Brenda Eun Sun Goes, who passed away November 1999.

John J. Chambers Jr., a retired dispatcher for 44 yers with Rupp Southern Tier and five years for Howard's Express, and a lifetime Middletown resident, died after a long illness at home on May 24, 2001. He was 75.
The son of John J. and Ella Natz Chambers, he was born January 2, 1926, in Middletown.
A Loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed by all.
Mr. Chambers served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1057, American Legion Post 151, and Hoffman Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, Middletown.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia E. Hall Chambers at home, one daughter, Cheryl Dino of Middletown; two grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Dino of Middletown; and two granddaughters, Melissa and Vanessa Wilkin of Hillsboro, NJ. He was predeceased by his daughter, Karin Lynn Dino.

Sr. Marie (Catherine) Atkinson, O.P., of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, died Friday, July 27, 2001, in Siena Hall Infirmary. She was 81.
She was born on August 13, 1919 in New York, NY to Marguerite McCreesh and Edward Atkinson.
Sister entered the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor in 1940 and made her Final Vows in 1944. She was a graduate of Misericordia School of Nursing and obtained her MA in Health, Supervision and Administration from New York University School of Education. She ministers in the homes of the sick in Columbus, OH, Denver, CO, New York City and Jampton Bays, NY. Sister served the Congregation as Novice Director, Superior General and as Secretary General of the Dominican Sisters of the Sick and Poor as well as a staff nurse in the Sisteres' Infirmary in Ossining, NY and Newburgh, NY, and served as an achivist for the two congregations from 1984 to present.
She is survived by two sisters, Marguerite Immediato of Yonkers, NY and Gloria DeFloria of Hartsdale, NY.

Gerald R. Patterson of the Town of Newburgh, NY, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh. He was 75. Mr. Patterson was born January 24, 1926, in Newburgh, NY, to Anna L. Peterson and John T. Peterson. He was married to Francies E. Jennings, who survives him at home.
Mr. Patterson was a lifelong resident of the area and a retired supervisor for Central Hudson Gas and Electric.
He is also survived by two step sons, Allan L. Sr. Kathleen Short, O.P.

Sr. Kathleen Short, O.P., of Newburgh, NY (formerly known as Sr. Leo Vincent), died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in Seina Hall Informary, Dominican Sisters of Hope Center, Newburgh, NY. She was 88. She was born April 13, 1913 in County Armagh, Ireland to Mary Quinn and Thomas Short.
Sister Kathleen entered the Dominican Sisters on December 8, 1930 and made her Final Profession in August 1938. She received her BA in Education from Setan Hall University and her MA in Administration from Catholic University of America.
Sister Kathleen Short's commitment to Catholic education has been long lived, beginning in 1932 with her first teaching position in St. Paul School in Jersey City. From 1932-1958, her career included teaching and administration on the elementary, secondary and collegiate levels in New York and New Jersey sschools. In 1959, she was elected Mother General of the Dominican Congregation of the Most Holy Rosary, Newburgh, NY, in wich position she did much to further the cause of Catholic education. During this period, she also served as president of Mount Saint Mary College, of which she was a co-founder. In July 1964, she resigned as president of the college but remained as president of the board of trustees. In 1965, Sister Kathleen was elected for a second six year term as Superior General of her religious congregation. During her terms as Superior General, Sister Kathleen served in different capacities on Religious Major Superiors' Conferences. She was one of three delegates for the Conference of Major Superiors of the U.S. to the Assemby of the International Union of Superiors General in Rome, Italy in 1970. Sr. Kathleen represented the Domiican Mothers General at the International Union of Superiors General in Rme in 1969. She was elected president of the Dominican Superiors General Conference of the U.S. for two years and she served on the Committee for the Restructuring the Conference of Major Superiors of Women with the Bishops of the U.S.
Sister served as the only woman on the newly created Catholic School oard of the Archdiocese of New York by Cardinal Terence Cooke.
Sr. Kathleen is survived by one brother, James Short, of Belfast, Ireland and two nephews, Peter and Bernard Biegley, both of Long Island, NY, numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by five brothers, George, Patrick, Thomas, Bernard and Brother Leo Short of the Brothers of God Order; and three sisters, Mary Biegley, Gretta Cote and Teresa Short.

Mary (Pat) O'Beirne

Mary (Pat) O'Beirne of Newburgh, NY, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at the Orange County residential Health Care Facility, Goshen, NY. She was 90.
Mrs. O'Beirne was born December 15, 1910 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Mary Buckley and Joseph Patterson. She was married to the late Stephen O'Beirne.
Pat and her beloved husband, Stephen, lived for many years in Brooklyn, NY before moving her family to Orange Lake in 1955 and were the owners of the Spudnut Shop in the City of Newburgh until Stephen's death in 1973. Pat was a member of St. Patrick's R.C. Church in Newburgh, NY where she served as a Communicant. She was well-known for her singing and acting talents, and was known as "The Songbird of Orange Lake", a tribute to her beautiful, strong voice. She was a member of many local theatrical and musical groups, including the Newburgh Civic Theater, the Showboat, and the Golden Tones Band. She also directed many variety shows at the Spruce Lodge. She was a member of the Coldenham Mothers Club, Dan Leghorn Ladies Auxiliary, Walden Senior Citizens, and the Cornwall Pink Ladies. Pat and her husband were also known for their yearly live Nativity Display held at the home in Meadow Hill. In recent years, she enjoyed writing poetry and stories about her childhood, some of which have been published.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen and his wife, Janice O'Beirne, of Newburgh, NY and Richard and his wife, Chrystal, of Wallkill, NY; eight grandchildren, Andrea Landolfa, Kevin O'Beirne, Jennifer O'Beirne, Cathryn Goff, Patricia Keenan, Susan Stewart, Colleen Maraday and Chrystal O'Beirne; 11 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by three sisters, Grace Andrulis, Agnes Layman and Kathleen Long, and one brother, Gerald Patterson.

Jason was a teacher of Math and English for John Burke Catholic High School in Goshen. He graduated from St. Edwards in Austin, Texas and had received numerous awards throughout high school and college.
James is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Ina Ekstrom Yamroz at home, his son, Joseph Yamroz of Middletown, his daughter, Mary Sheara of Middletown, and two grandchildren, Makayla and Miriah; his mother, Mary Yamroz of Elmwood Park, NJ; two sisters, Carol Jacobson of Rockaway, NJ and Christine Weidemer of Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

The son of Charles and Catherine Lechnar Baldwin, he was born September 3, 1919 in the Town of Wallkill.
A family statement read: "He was a wonderful husband and father, always quick with a joke and ready for a good time."
John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Wanda Herbert Baldwin, at home, his daughter, Arlene Potter and her husband Bill of Callicoon Center, NY; his son, John L. Baldwin and his wife Linda of Middletown; four sisters, Dorothy Bright and Sophie Sechrist, both of Middletown, Josephine Sibley and her husband John of Montgomery, and Anna Cooper, also of Montgomery; four grandchildren, Brett, Shondelle, Tonya M. and Sabrina Baldwin, and their mother Betty Baldwin; two step grandsons, Arthur and Todd Toescher and their wives; one great grandson, Tyler Roescher and six great step grandchildren, Justine, Austin, Cody, T.J., and Raquel Roescher and Raymond Stalley II, and several nieces and nephews. Robert F. Sutfin, 73, of New Paltz, NY, passed away on July 11, 2001, at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. Mr. Sutfin was born on November 30, 1928 in Ballston Spa, NY, the son of Robert H. and Marion Morris Sutfin.
He retired as vice president of Aipso Insurance Company based in Rhode Island. He was in the Army Air Corps during WWII, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and an usher at St. Joseph's Church in New Paltz.
He was married for 51 years to Mry Alice Coughlin Sutfin who survives at home. He is also survived by a son, Robert F. Jr. and his wife Carol, of Highland; a daighter, Diane and her husband, Robert Milkovich, of New Paltz; a brother, William A. Sutfin of Schroon Lake, NY; two sistes, Anita Jenkins of Bonita Springs, FL. and Joan Woodbeck of Ballston Spa, NY; also five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial mass will be held on July 24, 2001 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in New Paltz.

Leon "Lee" Siciliano, a long time resident of the Middletown area, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2001, at home. He was 98.
The son of Rocco and Francesca Mitarotonda Siciliano, he was born November 20, 1902 in Grumo Appula, Bari, Italy.
Lee and his wife, Sue, owned and operated the Greenville Diner from 1959 to 1986. He was a member of the Holy Cross Church in South centerville.
He is survived by his wife Cecelia "Sue" Barbone Siciliano at home, his daughter, Francesca Andrews and her husband, Thomas, of laGrange, IL; three grandchildren, Margo, Michael and Graham Andrews of LaGrnge, nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her husband, Martin Mellon, at home.
Mrs. Mellon was the daughter of the late Clara Beebe and Lawrence Rose.
She was a retired shoe factory worker and former long time area resident.
Survivors include her husband, two daughters, Patricia Trimarchi of Binghamton, NY and Blanche Ashton of Norwich, NY; three brothers, Kenneth Rose of Newburgh, NY, Franklin Rose of Newburgh, NY and Irving Rose of Florida; one sister, Jeanette Pardington of Newburgh, NY, three grandchilden and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting will be on Wednesday from 10-11:30 a.m. at Perrott-Berardinelli Home for Funerals, Inc., One Grand Avenue, Newburgh, NY, where services will be held at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Jack Hyatt officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
