Barbara Carpenter, a resident of the Fountains at Millbrook and a former lifelong Hingham and Lexington, Mass. resident, passed away suddenly July 19, 2002 at Vassar Brothers Hospital.
Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Hancock Church in Lexington, Mass. and has been a former member of the Crittenton and Hastings Home. She had also been very active with charities and most recently was a member of the Skyllkill Chapter of the Embroiderers Guild of America.
Born May 15, 1922 in Boston Mass., she was the daughter of Harry and Ruth LeBaron (Wood) Condit.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her former husband, F. Scott Carpenter, Jr., of Alexandria, VA, a daughter, Jane Carpenter-Osborne of Milton; two sons, Donalt Wirt of Seabrook, TX and Donald Carpenter of Morrison, CO; four grandchildren, Barbara Jean Bedwell of Irving, TX, Jon Wirt of Houston, TX, Brad Wirt of Seabrook, TX and Wesley Carpenter of Morrison, CO; a sister, Joan Condit of Tarmouth, Mass., and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the Fountains at Millbrook, 560 Flirt Rd., Millbrook.

Donald C. Hyatt

Donald C. Hyatt, a lifetime area resident and an auto body and fender technician for Campbell's Auto Body in Roscoe, died on Monday, July 15 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 89.
The son of Fred and Elizabeth Ryerson Hyatt, he was born on July 5, 1913 in Monticello, NY.
Mr. Hyatt was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include a son, Robert Hyatt of Middletown; a stepson, Harold Schrader and wife Joan of Liberty; a daughter, Hazel Akerley and husband Kenneth of Liberty; one grandson, five grand daughters and several great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Fred Hyatt.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 19, 2002 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Gene Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Grahamsville, next to his wife, Pearl, who predeceased him in 1996.

Sgt. Charles "Chuck" Rogers, Jr.
New Windsor, NY
Sgt. Charles "Chuck" Rogers, Jr. of New Windsor, NY, with his family and friends at his side, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at home. He was 42.
Chuck was born in Cornwall Hospital on March 1, 1960 to Charles W. and Doris A. Irwin Rogers, Sr. He grew up in New Windsor, NY, attending schools in Newburgh, NY. He graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in the Class of 1978. He entered the United States Army on November 27, 1978, serving our country as an SP 4 in the Military Police, being honorably discharged on November 25, 1981.
Chuck continued his career in law enforcement entering the City of Newburgh Police Department on June 2, 1983. In 1985, he became a K-9 officer and working with his K-9 officer "ARKO," he was promoted to supervisor of the K-9 Corp serving until 1989. In 1991, he was promoted to sergeant, which was the rank he retained. During his almost 20 years of service to the City of Newburgh, Sgt. Rogers was cited for bravery 18 times and was recognized by his department three times with its highest award to a living officer, the Silver Star. Sgt. Rogers was also cited for his participation in the rescue efforts of September 11, 2001 in New York City and was a member of the New Windsor Quassaick Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Services, and the City of Newburgh PBA. Currently, he was a member of the City of Newburgh Superior Officers Association and the Vails Gate United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his long time loving companion, Cheryl Cunningham, who resides at home; his mother and father, Charles W. and Doris A. Irwin Rogers, Sr. of New Windsor; one sister, Barbara and her husband, Stephen, Jesi of Middleton, MA; two nephews, Michael and Stephen Jesi of Middleton, MA; and one niece, Stephenie Jesi of Middletown, NY.
Visiting will beheld Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Perrott-Berardinelli Home for Funerals, Inc., One Grand Avenue, Newburgh, NY.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Floyd George of the Vails Gate United Methodist Church, will be held at St. Patrick's Church, Grand Street, Newburgh, on Friday at 9 a.m. Burial services will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the New Windsor Quassaick Volunteer Fire Department, the City of Newburgh Superior Officers Association or the New Windsor Volunteer Ambulance Corps in Chuck's memory.

Brian Thomas Donnellan, 23, a lifetime resident of Fishkill, NY died on July 13, 2002 as the result of a car accident.
He was employed at the Gap Warehouse in Fishkill.
Brian will be remembered for his love of life, outgoing personality, warm smile, caring spirit and will be missed by his family and many friends.
Brian, who was born on April 30, 1979 in the Bronx, NY, was the son of James J. Donnellan and Jacqueline A. Roos. He was a member of St. Mary Mother of the Church, Fishkill. He attended St. Mary's Elementary School and graduated from John Jay High School in 1997.
In addition to his parents, Brian is survived by two brothers, Brendan J. Donnellan of Huntington Beach, CA and Sean M. Donnellan of Fiskill; Mary Roos, his maternal grandmother of Fishkill; long time love, Erica Vazquez of Stormville; three uncles, two aunts and six cousins. He is predeceased by paternal grandparents James and Bridget Donnellan of Fishkill and his maternal grandfather, Thomas Roos.

Elizabeth "Betty" Barrera, 72 years of age of Woodmere, NY, formerly of Liberty, NY, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 surrounded by her loving family at St. John's Hospital in Far Rockaway, Long Island after a short illness.
The daughter of the late William and Nancy Egiziano, she was born in the Bronx, NY on September 3, 1929.
During her life, she was a mortgage banker for the Bank of New York, the owner of the Madison Restaurant in Liberty, NY and administrator of Sullivan County Rural Housing Opportunities. She was a long time member of St. Peter's Church in Liberty and a member of the Rosary Society.
She is survived by one son, Ronald Barrera and his wife, Stefanie, of Woodmere, L.I., and one grandson, Leon Barrera.

James M. Myers, 24, of Sacramento, CA, formerly of Liberty, NY, died Friday June 21, 2002, in Sacramento. The son of Henry Myers and Robin Myers, he was born in Port Jervis, NY on April 25, 1978.
He was an auto body technicians for Capital Auto Body in Sacramento. He was a member of the Liberty Presbyterian Church, Liberty, NY, and an avid motor sports fan.
He is survived by his parents, Henry Myers if Liberty, NY and Robin Haswaell of Sacramento, CA, paternal grandparents Norman and Cecila Myers of Sacramento; and two sisters, Heather Bailey and her husband,Scott, and Sarah Whitton and her husband, Mike, both of Sacramento.

Elizabeth Dulgerian Hamelburg, a homemaker and 22 year area resident, died on Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at her residence after a long illness. She was 85.
The daughter of Edwin and Elizabeth Sharp Muir, she was born on September 8, 1916 in Lochmor, Scotland.
She was the widow of Charles "Barkev" Dulgerian and Frank Hamelburg.
Survivors include her four daughters, Barbara VanVliet of Liberty, Judith Langer, Karen Williams and Kathleen Ward, all of Newburgh; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Frieda B. Rampe

Frieda B. Rampe of Parksville, and formerly of Liberty, died Sunday, June 30, 2002 at St. Theresa's Nursing Home, Middletown. She was 93.
Mrs. Rampe was a 55-year resident of the area. She was born in Germany on July 2, 1908 to the late Ludwig and Clara Berringer Bauer.
She was married to the late William J. Rampe who died in 1963.
Mrs. Rampe was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Liberty, the Ladies' Aide Society and Senior Citizens of the Church.
She is survived by one son, William L. Rampe and his wife, Linda, of Parksville; and four grandchildren, William, James, Jennifer and Hilary.
She was predeceased by two brothers, George and Paul Bauer.

John M. "Jack" Schwan, Jr.

John M. "Jack" Schwan, Jr., 78, a Rhinebeck resident for 45 years, passed away suddenly, Friday, June 28, 2002, at his home in Rhinebeck.
Mr. Schwan was a consultant and breeder with Ralph A. Pitcher and Sons of Rhinebeck and contributed to the creation of the "Mona Lisa" Hybrid Anemone. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, gardening and woodworking.
He served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre with the US Navy and received a degree in horticulture from Alfred University.
Born August 31, 1923 in Far Rockaway, NJ, he was the son of John M. Schwan Sr. and Margaret Grimm Sr.
On November 25, 1948 in Hornell, NY, he married Anna "Ann" M. (Knipfing) Schwan.
In addition to his wife of Rhinebeck, he is survived by a son, Paul of Milan; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Victor Good of Lakewood, CO; a grandson, Nathan Dykeman; a sister-in-law, Helen Schwan, one nephew and two nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Schwan.

Roslyn H. Gross, a 52 year resident of Spring Valley, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at home at the age of 83.
Mrs. Gross, who was the widow of Charles P. Gross who died on November 21, 1992, was born in New York, NY on Dec. 24, 1918 to Morris and Sadie Siet.
Mrs. Gross was a retired executive secretary with the New York State Department of Labor, a past president of the Rockland Community College Senior Citizens Club, past commander of the Joan of Arc Chapter of the Knights of Pythias, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Good Samaritan Hospital, was a member of Temple Beth El in Spring Valley, and was active in many other community interests.
Mrs. Gross is survived by two sons, Eric and his wife, Barbara, of Carmel, NY, and Hank and his companion, Virginia Bailey, of Middletown, NY; four grandchildren, Andrew and his wife Mardi of Manhattan; Steven and his fiancée, Valerie and her son, Anthony; Kimberly and her husband, Michael Tkacz of Carmel, NY and Matthew of Houston, TX.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, and her sister, Muriel Stern.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at Temple Beth El, Viola Road, Spring Valley at 11 a.m. Rabbi Louis Frishman will officiate.

Richard C. Cobey, Sr.

Richard C. Cobey, Sr., 72, a 12 year resident of Elizaville and former Hyde Park resident, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at the Columbia Medical Hospital.
Mr. Cobey was employed as a New York State trooper for 33 years until his retirement in 1990 as a BCI investigator at Troop K. During his career, he had worked as a motorcycle patrolman on the New York State Thruway and on several organized crime, homicide and domestic terrorism task forces. He was currently serving his second term as Town of Taghkanic town justice. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of the New York State Police PBA, the CSEA and the New York State Magistrates' Association.
Born September 17, 1929 in Queens, he was the son of Thomas and Mable (Dougan) Cobey.
On May 3, 1953 at Regina Coeli Roman Catholic Church in Hyde Park, he married Clara (Guercio) Cobey.
In addition to his wife of Elizaville, he is survived by a son, Richard C. Cobey Jr. and his wife, Malathy of Dunedin, New Zealand; and a son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Colleen Cobey of Mebane, NC; a daughter and son-in-law Susan and Peter Williamson of Park Slope, Brooklyn; three grandchildren, Ryan and Amanda Cobey and Sadie Williamson. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas.

She was expecting her second grandchild in March.
Donna was a very loving wife, mother and oma. She showed kindness, generosity and compassion to those who crossed her path and was a loyal and trustworthy friend to those near and far. The love she had for her family and friends will always be remembered.

Ward Poche' of Washingtonville, NY, a retired news reporter and resident of the area since 1953, entered into rest on November 21, 2002 at home. He was 73.
The son of Joseph Ward and Cecile Booth Poche', he was born on February 3, 1929 in Texas City, TX.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Lourdes Council 5890, Washingtonville, and was a volunteer at St. Mary's Church in Washingtonville and Cornwall Hospital.
A family statement read: "Beloved Grandfather, Father and dearest friend."
He was the widower of Helen Poche'.
He is survived by sons Michael J. Poche' of San Diego, CA and Stephen W. and wife, Penny Poche' of Walden, NY; sister Mary and husband, Bob Whelan of Eastchester, NY; grandchildren Nicole Poche', Heather and Tyler Shockley; a special friend, Louise Grix, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Cecile Borret.

Jean Peck Close
Rhinebeck, NY
Jean Peck Close, 79, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2002 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital.
Mrs. Close, a longtime Rhinebeck resident, was raised in Pine Plains and attended Pine Plains Central Schools. She also graduated from Syracuse University in 1944 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. While at Syracuse, she was a member of the Delta, Delta, Delta National Sorority, and served as president of the chapter in her senior year.
Mrs. Close was a member of the Church of the Messiah, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also an avid bridge player and volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
She was born March 16, 1923 in Pine Plains, the daughter of William McKinley and Mabel Brill Peck.
On August 31, 1947, she married Leslie Close in Pine Plains.
In addition to her husband, of Rhinebeck, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and John McGuire of Rhinebeck; a son and daughter-in-law, Jay C. and Debbie Close of Rhinebeck; four grandchildren, Seth McGuire and her fiancée, Robert Wheeler, Jr., Sean McGuire and his wife, Phoenix, Morgan Close and Calie Close, a soon to arrive great grandson and three nephews. She was predeceased be her brother, Richard Peck.
Following cremation, entombment will take place at the Saratoga National Cemetery.

Frederick J. Hoppe of Monroe, NY, a retired maintenance man at Lake Ann, and an area resident for 20 years, entered into rest on November 20, 2002 at Rosary Hill Home. He was 68.
The son of Frederick J. Sr. and Elsie Hoppe, he was born on July 15, 1934 at West Sayville, NY.
Frederick was an Army veteran serving from 1953 to 1955.
A family statement read: "Best Pop Pop and loving Dad and good friend."
He is survived by a son, Eric Hoppe of Cornwall; one daughter, Mikki and her husband, Thomas Bollerman of Central Valley; a brother, Henry Hoppe of Long Island; a sister, Carol Scavonie of Ohio; four grandchildren, Angelica Hoppe, Kristen Bollerman, Michael Robertson, Veronica Robertson; 11 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Russell Hoppe.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 25, 2002 from 6-9 p.m. at the David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, NY.
Cremation will be private.
