Mildred "Millie" B. Lewis

Mildred "Millie" B. Lewis died Sunday, November 17, 2002 at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. She was 80 years old.
She was born July 21, 1922 in West Camp, NY, the daughter of Charles and Auguste Beers Bergemeister. She was the wife of the late John N. Lewis who died in 1982.
During World War II, she was employed by the State of Delaware in Dover, where she was secretary for the Director of the federally-funded Emergency Maturity and Infant Care Program for the servicemen's wives and infants.
She was formerly employed by the Saugerties Savings and Loan Association and the Saugerties National Bank and Trust Co. From 1965 until her retirement in 1990, she was employed by the Saugerties Lumber Co.
She was a member of the Atonement Lutheran Church since 1935 and the Centerville Fire Company Auxiliary since 1949. She was also a member of the Saugerties Society of Little Gardens and Senior Citizens Club #2.
Survivors include her son, John C. Lewis of Saugerties; three nieces, Dorothy Sengebush Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Pamela Davis Suenram of Federicksburg, TX, and Nancy Davis Schaff of Saugerties. She is also survived by several cousins, grand nieces and grand nephews.
She ws pre-deceased by three sisters, Alwine Sengebush, Kathrine Kullmann and Margaret Marburger.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, NY. Rev. Edward Shreiber, Pastor of Atonement Lutheran Church, will officiate.
Internment will follow immediately in Mount Marion Cemetery, Kings Highway, Saugerties.
Friends may call at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., and Thursday from 8:30-11 a.m.
Patricia Bonnell
Liberty, NY
Patricia Bonnell, a lifetime resident and a saleswoman for Steve's Gift Shop at Grossinger's Hotel and for Marcia's Dress Shop in Liberty, died on Saturday, November 6, 2002 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 91.
The daughter of Anthony and Maryann Spokas Prescott, she was born on October 20, 1911 in Albany, NY.
She was a member of St. Peter's Church in Liberty and was the widow of Victor Bonnell who died in 1996.
Survivors two sisters-in-law, Gladys Devany and Viola Wood, both of Hurleyville, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Hurleyville Cemetry on Monday, November 18 at 3 p.m.

Raffaele Sorrentino
Liberty, NY
Raffaele Sorrentino, a 30-year resident and the owner of Ralph's Custom Tailoring Shop in Liberty, died at his home on Thursday, November 14, 2002. He was 75.
The son of Pasqual and Liberina Bonercoua Sorrentino, he was born on November 3, 1927 in Iscaia, Italy.
He was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty.
Survivors include his loving wife, Anna Marie Volo Sorrentino at home; six sons, Pasquale Sorrentino of New York City, Archie Sorrentino of Liberty, Licianno Sorrentino and wife, Maria, of New York City, Paul Sorrentino of New York City, Valentino Sorrentino and wife, Michelle, of New York City, and Marco Sorrentino and wife, Fran, of New York City; three daughters, Rita Sorrentino of New York City, Maria Hernandez and husband, Steve, of New York City, and Savanna Young and husband, Douglas, of Florida; one brother, Enzo Sorrentino and his wife, Maria, of Rome, Italy, and 11 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Liberina Sorrentino.

Rose Marie Montalbano died Thursday, November 14, 2002 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY. She was 67 years old.
She was born July 9, 1935 in Manhattan, NY, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine Mondola Presinzano. She maried Anthony Montalbano.
She was a retired bus driver for Lezette Transportation in Veteran. She was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Centerville, where she was a lector, Eucharistic Minister, a CCD teacher and a former member of the Parish Council. She was an original organizer of the annual Seder Meal. She chaired the Romans Eight Program. She was a member of the Cursillo Movement and a member of the regional group service team.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Edward and his wife, Jennifer, of Saugerties; three daughters, Donna Marie Arnold and her husband, Steve, of Kerhonskon, JoAnn Nickels and her husband, Thomas, of Fair Haven, VT, and Margaret Gilman ofSaugerties; two brothers, Sonny and Buddy, both of Florida. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A funeral procession will form ta 10:15 a.m. Monday at Freer and Galietta, Inc. Funeral Home, 25 Ulster Avenue, Saugerties, NY and proceed to St. John the Evangelist Parish Complex in Centerville, where an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Monsigner William Williams, Pastor of St. John the Evangelist, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Blue Mt. Cemetery, Saugerties, NY.

Earl Anthony Vega, the newborn infant son of William Vega and Alice Cox, died on Tuesday, November 12, 2002, at Catskill Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his parents, William Vega and Alice Cox of Liberty; maternal grandfather, Robert Cox of Youngsville; paternal grandfather, William Vega of Harris; his paternal grandmother, Beverly Heffelfinger of Harris; five brothers, Brandon Cox, Anthony DaLeo, Christopher Cox, Daniel Cox and Jeremy Cox, all of Liberty, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 South Main St., Liberty, on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m.

Marie Vetter

Marie Vetter, a lifetime area resident, died on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at her residence. Mrs. Vetter was a registered nurse who retired from Community General Hospital in Liberty, NY. She was 85.
The daughter of John and Adolphine Franke Braghirol, she was born on August 4, 1917 in New York City.
She was a member ofthe Tri-Valley Lioness Club.
She was the widow of Paul Vetter who passed away in 1974.
Survivors include her son, Paul J. Vetter and his wife, Kitty, of Willowemoc; her daughter, Pauline Vetter of Wappingers Falls; one brother, John Braghirol of North Carolina and two grandchildren, Danielle Cornish and Gene Paul Vetter. She was predeceased by two sisters, Adalaide and Marge Braghirol.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 2:30 p.m. at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty. Rev. Bridgette LeConey will officiate.
Visitation will be held following the funeral service until p.m. at the funeral home.
Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY.

Gordon Knapp, 72, passed away Friday, November 9, 2002, at his homein Milan.
Mr. Knapp, formerly of New York City, was the owner of the Hyde Park Antique Center. He ws a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army.
Born November 10, 1929 in New York City, he was the son of Elliott and Dolly Knapp.
He is survived by a cousin, Carolyn Knapp Foster, of Middlebury, VT.
Mr. Knapp was predeceased by his firend and business partner, George L. Lynaugh, on July 9, 1998.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 14, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W.Market St., Rhinebeck.
Ruth E. Purdy

Ruth E. Purdy, 93, a Rhinebeck resident and former resident of Dalton, PA, died Tuesday, November 12, at the Tompson House, Rhinebeck, NY.
Miss Purdy was a graduate of Dalton High School and the Westchester State Techers College. In addition to teaching, she had been employed in the business office at the Telephone Company in Scranton, PA and at Keystone College.
She was a historian, an avid birdwatcher and memeber of the Waterman Bird Club; and enjoyed gardening and reading.
Born June 30, 1909 in Dalton, PA, she was the daughter of J. Merton and Harriet (Jackson) Purdy.
Miss Purdy is survived by a sistr, Esther and her husband, Harry Chapman of Rhinebeck; a niece, Sandra Marchese, and her companion, John Kegan, of Salt Point, NY; a nephew, Dean Chapman and his wife, Esther, of Camilus, NY, and several great nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be held in the Union Cemetery, Hyde Park. Pastor Salmon Parmar of the Garrettson United Methodist Church where she was a member, will officiate.

Gertrude "Trudy" Gyves

Gertrude "Trudy" Gyves died Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at Benedictine Hospital. She was 87 years old.
She was born October 25, 195 in Florida, NY, the daughter of Martin and Kathryn Kuroski Plock. Her first husband, Nicolas Olivari, died in 1951. She was also predeceased by her husband, Martin Gyves, in 1988.
Prior to retirement, she was a self-employed hairdresser. She was a parishoner of St. John the Evangelist Parish and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was active in the Cursillio Movement. She was also active in the pregnancy support group.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ann Repp of Washington, DC; five sons, James Olivari of Rockwell City, Iowa, Martin Gyves of Salt Point, NY, William Gyves of Mineola, NY, Joseph Gyves of Reading, CA, and Daniel Gyves of Mansfield, MA; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Lorraine Evans Brodish of Liberty died Monday, November 4, 2002 at Roscoe Community Nursing Home. She was 84. Lorraine ws a 30-year resident of the area.
She was a housewife and was born in Brooklyn on September 16, 1918 to the late Herman and Rose Spergel. She was married to the lae Benjamin Evans who died in 1960s, and then to the late Hyman Brodish who died in 1980.
She is survived by one son, Michael Evans of Neversink; one brother, Myron Spergel of North Miami, FL; one sister, Evelyn Wagner of North Miame, FL; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at 1 p.m. inWellwood Cemetery, Pinelawn, NY.

Herman Yankelowitz of Jeffersonville, and formerly of Livingston Manor, died October 31, 2002 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 69.
Herman was born in the Bronx, NY on September 3, 1933 to the late Phillip and Gussie Prushan Yankelowitz.
He was retired from Manor Poultry in Livingston Manor.
There are no known survivors.

Louis P. Mayer, formerly of Saugerties, died November 2, 2002 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. He was 64.
He was born March 1, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Louis G. and Tighe Beatrice Tighe Mayer.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 until 1960. He was formerly employed by KTG of Saugerties. At the time of his death, he was employed by Amas Armored Car Service of Newburgh, NY.
Mr. Mayer is survived by a son, Michael Mayer, of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Doreen Mayer Marchuck and Donna Mayer Hillje, both of Saugerties; a son-in-law, John Hillje of Saugerties; his former wife, Marie Mayer of Saugerties; three sisters, Barbara Curry of Saugerties, Phyllis Longtoe of Maine, and Marge Warren of Texas; and a brother, Lou Honecker of Saugerties. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Gina Marie Hillje.
He was predeceased by his son, Brian W. Mayer, in 1987.
A funeral procession will form at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2002 at Buono Funeal Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, and then proceed to St. Mary of the Snow RC Church where a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Rev. Julian Guzman will officiate.
Internment with full military honors will be in St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery, Barclay Heights, Saugerties.

George I. Bell

Mr. George I. Bell died Friday, November 1, 2002 at Columbia Greene Long Term Care Facility in Catskill. He was 68 years old.
He was born February 25, 1934 in Saugerties, NY. He was the son of James P. and Helen M. Lezette Bell.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of Lamouree-Hackett Post #72 American Legion in Saugerties.
He is survived by one son, Daniel of Jewett, NY; a brother, David of Tavarei, FL; a dear friend, Ethel Eichim of Saugerties, and one granddaughter, Nicolynn Bell.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Harold, James and Donald Bell; and three sisters, Sally Roosa, Lila Simmons and Helen Marbella.
Mr. Bell was a retired machinist from Micronetics in Kingston and was previously employed by Ferroxcube Corporation of Saugerties and seveal car dealerships as a salesman.
Funeral services will be held at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., 100 Main St., Saugeties, NY, on Monday, November 4, at 11 a.m. Rev. Karl Ostber, pastor of Saugerties Congregation Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery, Saugerties.

Marjorie A. Lewis

Marjorie A. Lewis of Liberty died Friday, November 1, 2002 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center, Liberty. She was 74.
Mrs. Lewis was a 55-yera resident of the area, and a retired night supervisor for Sullivan ARC at the former Bennet Residence in Liberty.
She was born in Thomasville, GA on March 30, 1928 to the late Joseph Stanfield Harrison and Henrietta Harrison. She was the widow of Theodore Lewis who predeceased her on December 31, 1993.
Mrs. Lewis was a member of the White Sulphur Springs united Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Thomas of Virginia Beach, VA, Theodore of Briscoe, and Richard of Boulder, CO; one daughter, Patricia Decker of Liberty; two sisters, Anna Hitchcock of Alexandria, VA and Eloise Hauser of Marlinton, WV; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Cremation will be at the convenience of the family at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in Laurel Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs.
Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Family Council of Sullivan County Adult Care Center, Sunset Lake Road, Liberty, NY 12754.

Deborah Caryn Guldan, a two year resident of the area, died at her home on Wednesday, October 23, 2002, with family and friends at her bedside.She was 40.
Deborah had worked as a deli clerk in Shop Rite in Monticello.
She was born in Chicago, IL o November 26, 1961 to Phillip and Joan McLendon Inda. She was married to Jeffrey N. Guldan.
Deborah is survived by her parents of Virginia Beach, VA; her loving and devoted husband, Jeffrey, at home; one son, Jeremy, whom she loved dearly, at home; one brother, James Inda of Madison, WI; and one sister, Catherine Devich of Chicago, IL.
There was no visitation or funeral service. Cremation was at the convenience of the family at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh. There will be a memofrial service at a later date.

Harvey R. Davis, age 66, of Hurleyville, NY, died on Monday, October 28, 2002, at home. The lifetime area resident was a retired groundskeeper at the Concord Golf Course in Kiamesha Lake, NY.
He was the son of Corliss Davis and Helen Moore and was born in Monticello, NY on January 17, 1936.
He is survived by five brothers, Roscoe Davis of Vermont, Fred Davis and Gerald Davis of Hurleyville, NY, Robert Davis of Liberty and Elmer Davis of Monticello; two sisters, Audrey Perscola of Hurleyville and Grace Curtis of Claryville, NY; several nieces and nephews.
