Zita M. Bivins of Liberty, NY, a lifetime resident of the area, died on Sunday, October 27, 2002 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 70 years old.
She was the daughter of the late John H. Edwwards and Bertha May Cobb and was born in Liberty, NY on July 14, 1932.
She was the widow of Stanton A. Bivins who died on September 24, 1991.
Mrs. Bivins was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church and former choir member.
She is survived by two sons, Keith A. Bivins of Lydonville, NY and Brian S. Bivins and his fiance, Sandy Perdue, of Liberty, NY; two daughters, Kim Z. Davis and her husband, Jeffrey W. of Liberty, NY, Tracy L. Donovan and her husband, Richard W. of Parksville, NY; two sisters, Evelyn Froelich of White Sukphur Springs, NY and Flora Bivins of Liberty, NY; one brother-in-law, Darwin Bivins of Liberty, NY; one special nwphew, William J. Costello of Kingston, NY; 10 grandchildren, Amanda J. Bivins, Lance A. Bivins, Michelle L. Bivins, Joshua Davis, Danielle Davis, Trevor Olsen, Thomas Olsen, Dale Olsen, Branden Olsen and Bruce Pelton; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bivins was predeceased by two sisters, Geraldine Costello and Mabel Edwards.

James F. Smith
Swan Lake, NY
James F. Smith of Swan Lake, NY died on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. He was 86.
A 20-year resident of the area, Mr. Smith was a retired chef in the New York City School System in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
The son of the late Eugene and Nenrietta DeBerry Smith, Mr. Smith was born on March 19, 1914 in Southern Pines, NC.
He was the widower of Maxzeline, his wife, who died on 1992.
He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, Ferndale, NY.
Mr. Smith is survived by one grother, Napoleon Smith of Florida; five sisters, Nellie Worley and Christine Melton of Brooklyn, NY, Mamie Smith and Henrietta Smith of Southern Pines, NC, and Betty Jean Blair of Atlanta, GA, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one daughter and four brothers, Jasper, Jerome, Bernis and Vernon Smith, and three sisters, Inez McRaue, Vilene Moore and Ola Gay.
Friends may call on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church, Old Route 17, Ferndale, NY. Services will be held at 1 p.m. at the church, Rev. Willie Smith officiating.

Raymond Longtoe
Kingston, NY
Raymond Longtoe died Friday, March 28, 2003 at Benedictine Hospital. He was 73 years old.
He was born September 5, 1929 in Kingston, NY, the son of Arthur and Nellie Hueston Longtoe.
Raymond is survived by his family care provider, Gail Zackos, who provided him with a warm and loving home for the past 10 years. He is also survived by two brothers, Donald Longtoe of Saugerties and Ronald Longtoe of Mount Marion, as well as one sister, Mary Longtoe of Columbia County.
Raymond attended the Southern Ulster Day Program in Milton, NY where he has many friends who will miss him greatly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church in New Paltz, NY. Internment will follow immediately in New Paltz Rural Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, NY.

Walter W. Metzger
Yulan, NY
Mr. Walter W. Metzger of Yulan, NY died peacefully Friday, March 28, 2003 at home in the loving care of Mary Ellen Walton, who supervised his care. He was 98.
The son of the late Fred and the late Mary Cole Metzger, he was born February 15, 1905 in Yulan, NY. In his early years, Walter worked as a runner for the New York Stock Exchange and later, he took a job withthe Sullivan County Department of Public Works.
He was the widower of the late Dorothea Hornkohl Metzger; she died February 2, 1999.
Walter and Dorothea built the house he lived in. It was originally a log cabin with logs taken from his own land.
He was a life member of the Yulan Rod and Gun Club, as well as a life member of the Tusten Senior Citizens.
Mourned and loved by many, he was a true country boy. He loved to hunt and fish. At age 95, his niece, Dorothy and nephewn, Fred, borbade him to go ice fishing. He contributed to the history of Yulan. He had many stories to tell and things to teach about wildlife, flowers and nature. He was a joy to listen to and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survived are a niece, Dorothy Waltemath, of Karvill, TX; a nephew, Frederick Hornkohl, of Woodstock, GA; six great nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Route 97, Baryville, NY, on Monday, March 31, 2003, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Marie Lucille Alagna

Marie Lucille Alagna, 88, fell asleep in the Lord Saturday, March 29, 2003, at the Ferncliff Nursing Home.
Mrs. Alagna was a lifelong resident of Brooklyn and moved to the Ferncliff Nursing Home four years ago. She was a member of the St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn and a member and past president of the Sacred Heart Society.
Born August 1, 1914 in Manhattan, she was the daughter of Francesco and Salvatrice Russo Incivilito.
She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Alagna, on December 22, 1979, and her son, Anthony P. Alagna, on November 13, 1987.
She is survived by a son, Fr. Frank Alagna of Rhinebeck; a daughter, Joan Alagna of Brooklyn, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two great great grandchilren.
A Mass of Resurection will be celebrated by Fr. Frank Alagna, Saturday, April 5, 2003, 10 a.m., at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, East Elm Avenue and Old Post Road, Staatsburg.
Calling hours will be Sunday, April 6 and Monday, April 7, 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Torrogrossa and Sons Funeral Home, 1305 79th St., Brooklyn, NY.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, Brooklyn. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village, NY.

George McQueen

George McQueen died Sunday, March 23, 2003 at Benedictine Hospital. He was 71 years old.
He served in the US Marines during the Korean War.
He was born October 3, 1931 in Queens Village, the son of George F. and Blanche Homes McQueen. On June 6, 1953, he married the former Jeanne Atwood.
He was president of Auto Art of Hudson Valley, Inc. and a member of the Saugerties Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Deborah-Jean Laughlin and Amy Folscher, both of Lake Katrine; two brothers, Robert of Lindenhurst, Long Island and Donald of Westport, NY; a sister, Joannie Newcomb of Fuquay-Varina, NC; and four grandchildren, Michael Laghlin of Elizabethtown, NJ, and Matthew, Mary and Megan Laughlin, all of Lake Katrine, NY.
Cremation will be at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be helda t 3 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Saugerties. Arrangements are by Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties.

Ruth S. Demarest
Rhinebeck, NY
Ruth S. Demarest, 70, a lifelong resident of Rhinebeck, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at Thompson House in Rhinebeck.
Mrs. Demarest was a homemaker, was president of the Rhinebeck Fireman's Auxiliary, a very active member of the Rhinebeck Reformed Church, Councilmember of Rhinebeck Alumni Association, past president of Rhinebecvk AARP, past member of the american Legion Auxiliary and former member of the Rhinebecy and Dutchess County Granges.
Born in Rhinebeck on June 10, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Harold W. and Kathryn (Carhart) Spoor.
On January 6, 1952 in Rhinebeck, she married Arnold E. Demarest. He predeceased her on March 30, 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah D. Jones of Stephens City, VA; a son, William H. Demarest of Middletown, VA; two grandsons, Dallas M. and Brandon T. Jones; a brother, Franklin Spoor of Winchester, VA and a loving companion, Walter Harrison of Rhinebeck.
Calling hours will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 West Market St., Rhinebeck.
Services will be held Monday, 11 a.m. from the Rhinebeck Reformed Church, 6368 Mill St., Rhinebeck, with the Rev. David W. Hondrop officiating.
Interment will be in the Wurtenburg Cemetery. Following the interment, a reception for family and friends will be held at the fellowship hall at the Reformed Church.

Ruth Dale
Rhinebeck, NY
Ruth Dale, of Barclay Street, died Monday, March 17, 2003 at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck. She was 90.
She was born August 29, 1912 in New York City, the daughter of George and Clara Delamotta. She married Magnus Dale on February 16, 1935. He died on August 5, 1991 after 56 years of marriage.
Mrs. Dale was a registered nurse and graduated from the Albany Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. In 1938, she and her husband opened Dale Sanitarium and served the community of Saugerties until 1967. Over 1,100 children were born there and the snitarium served as hospital and emergency room.
For 52 years they opened their home to the members of the C.A. Lynch Hose Company on Christmas Day. They served hot food and refreshments to the firemen who spent the day delivering candy with Santa Claus to the locl children.
She is survived by her son Martin and his wife, Karen, of Hyde Park, NY; a grandson, Martin, Jr. and his wife, Therese of Albany; and a granddaughter, Annett Segarra and her husband, Wilford of Albany. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Martin Dale III and Kevin Dale.
In accordance with Mrs. Dale's wishes, all funeral services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Buono Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, NY.

John Bauer
Swan Lake, NY
John Bauer, a long time area resident and retired owner of the Liberty Pub, died peacefully at home on Monday, March 17, 2003. He was 69.
The son of John and Alice Gillen Bauer, he was born on October 12, 1933 in the Bronx.
John was a member of St. Peter's Church, Liberty, Liberty Elks Lodge #1545, Liberty Masonic Lodge #521 and the I.O.O.B. He served in the US Navy on the Aircraft Carrier Midway during the Korean Conflict.
He was the widower of Beatrice McCloskey Bauer, who died on May 24, 2001.
Survivors include a son, Edward bauer of Callicoon; three daughters, Maryann Wood of Napanoch, Theresa Bauer of White Sulpher Springs and Catherine Bauer of East Moriches, NY; and six grandchildren, Christopher Wood, Norma Jean Wood, Samantha Wood, Jason Davey, Danielle Lacek and George Lacek.
The family will receive friends at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, on Thursday, March 20, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 21, 2003 at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Liberty, at 11:445 a.m. with Rev. Ivan Csete officiating.
Burial will follow the mass at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Sunset Lake Road, Liberty, with full military honors.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan at 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550 for their dedication, love and support during John's illness.

Gerald E. "Jerry" Simpson

Mr. Gerald E. "Jerry" Simpson of Huguenot, NY, a retired dairy farmer and lifetime resident of the area, died Sunday, March 16, 2003 at Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home, Lake Ariel, PA. He was 83.
He was born july 16, 1919 in Greenville Township, NY, the son of the late Albert and the late Bessie Reed Simpson.
He was a member of Huguenot Fire Department and a charter member of the Neversink Valley Grange No. 1530 P. of H., Huguenot, NY.
A family statement read: "Jerry was a wonderful husband and father. He loved his life on the farm and all his cows."
Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Frances Franke Simpson, at home; daughter Eileen C. Simpson at home; two nephews, Dr. Francis A. Simpson of Port Jervis, NY and Willis H. Simpson, Jr., of Port Jervis, NY; and a niece, Louise Maney of Huguenot, NY.
He was predeceased by a son, Gerald E. Simpson, Jr.; a brother, Willis H. Simpson, Sr.; and a sister, Alberta Simpson.

SSG. Brian L. Pavlich
Fort Drum, NY
SSG. Brian L. Pavlich of Fort Drum, NY joined the Army January 2, 1996 and died Tuesday, March 11, 2003 in a Black Hawk helicopter crash at Fort Drum, NY. He was 25.
He was born June 3, 1977 in Port Jervis, NY.
Brian was a 1995 graduate of Port Jervis High School where he played football and was on the track team. He plaed for Port Jervis Little League, as well as Pop Warner Football. He was a lifetime member of the Roose-Fleming VFW Post. No. 161 and Tro-States Hose Co. No. 6. He was a former Boy Scout and was an aivid Met's fan.
Surviving are his wife, Health Saski Pavlich, who he married on February 13, 1998 in St. Petersburgh, FL; his father, Edward C. Pavlich of Port Jervis, NY; his mother, May D. Kenneybrook of Newton, NJ; his brother, Edward C. Pavlich, Jr. of Port Jervis, NY; a sister, Holly M. Pavlich of Port Jervis, NY; a niece, Marissa R. Pavlich of Port Jervis, NY; an aunt, Nancy Margaret Pavlich of San Dieglo, CA; maternal grandmother Gertrude Mills of Branchville, NJ; aunts and uncles George and Pam Kenneybrook of Coconut Creek, FL, Donna and Charles Kenneybrook of Denville, NJ, Donna and Mile Andro of Oak Ridge, NY; mother-in-law Suzanne Saski of Port Jervis, NY, father-in-law Michael Saski of Franklin, NJ; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their children, Joseph and Lisa Saski of Jacksonville, FL and Saranna and Joseph Kline of La Vegas, NV. He is furtehr survived by his two dogs, Zoey and Bella, who he was very dedicated to.

Military Services will follow at the Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY. This service will be a private service for family or for those at the family's request.
Donations will be accepted in Brian's memory and will be put towards a scholarship in his name through the VFW.

George Rodriguez

George Rodriguez, a former Saugerties resident, died Thursday, March 13, 2003 at his home in Albany, nY. He was 72 years old.
He was born April 8, 1930 in Albany, NY, the son of John and Madeline Montee Rodriguez.
He was the broker and owner of St. James Funding Corporation as well as brother and owner of Field Court Realty, Inc. He had been employed by IBM as an editor and assembler of tehcnical manuals. He was a former president of the Ulster County Board of Realtors.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 until 1950 and participated in the Berlin Airlift. He was a member of the Saugerties VFW Post #5034. He was a former member of the Sauerties Knights of Columbus #4536. He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Snow and served for many years as a member of the finance council.
He is survived by three sons, Mark of Sierra Vista, AZ, David of Deltona, FL and Paul of Seattle, WA; two daughters, Christine Myers of Linden, VA and Holly Stover of Peasanton, CA; two brothers, Robert of Albuquerque, NM and Doug of Saratoga, NY; and by his companion, Joan Feldman of Saugerties, NY.
A procession will form at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003 at the Buono Fneral Services, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, NY, and then proceeed to St. Mary of the Snow RC Church where a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Fr. Hugh R. Grace, Pastor of St. Mary of the Snow, will officiate. Internment will be in Holy Infancy Cemetery, Lake Luzerne, NY.
Friends may call Wednesday 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.

Theodora J. Prutton
Red Hook, NY
Theodora J. Prutton, 83, passed away, Thursday, March 13, 2003 in Orlando, FL.
Mrs. Prutton was predeceased by her husband, Fr.Leslie F. Prutton, the former REctor of the Church of the Messiah, Rhinebeck, from 1965 to 1984. During that time, Mrs. Prutton was very active with the church and was a member of the NDH Auxiliary. She moved to Orlando 14 months ago from Red Hook.
Born in Wales, Englad on November 9, 1919, she was the daughter of Thomas and Thedosa (Heatherly) Jenkins. During WWII, she worked with the YMCA in England and later traveled to Germany where she met and martried her husband on May 4, 1946.
Mrs. Prutton is survived by a daughter, Wendy Dillman, of Orlando,m FL; a son, John L. Prutton of St. Petersburg, FL; a granddaughter, Heather Dillman of Rhinebeck; a brother, William Jenkins and a sister, Elizabeth Harris, both of Bristol, England and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Walter Gregory, who was killed during WWII, a daughter, Loraine Gregory, a brother, Lawrence Jenkins and two sisters, Irene Wright and Mira Hunkley.
Memorial services are Saturday, March 29, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Messiah, 47 Montgomery St., Rhinebeck. Fr. Gerald Gallagher will officiate. Entembment will be in the Columbarium of the Church of the Messiah.

Joseph Washousky

Joseph Washousky, a 60-year area resident and a retired stone mason for Local 5in Poughkeepsie, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 in South Fallsburg. He was 77.
The son of the late Michael and Anna Macharsky Washousky, he was born April 5, 1925 in Coaldale, PA.
He was a US Navy veteran serving during World War II from 1943-1946. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in South Fallsburgh and was a 50-year member of the American Legion in Pennsylvania.
A family statement reads: "He was a loving father, grandgather, and friend. He will always be remembere for his love and dedication to his family; his faithful following of Christ; his witty sense of humor and his love of children."
Survivors include his two loving daughters, Nancy Jordan of Jeffersonville and Susan Mootz of Hurleyville; two brothers, Peter Washousky and his wife, Ann, of Bronx, NY and Russell Washousky and his wife, Connie, of Landsford, PA; two sisters, Helen Machay of Coaldale, PA and Mary Smith of Bethlehem, PA; three grandchildren, Justin and Kristina Mootz and Kristi Kern, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Angela "Nellie" Washousky, in May 1993, and one brother, Michael Washousky, in September 2002.
