Mr. Thomas E. Misczuk of W. Hartford, CT a investigative news reporter for Fox 61 News, Hartford, CT and former resident of Port Jervis, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at Newport, RI. He was 48.
He was born August 7, 1955 in Newark, NJ the son of Rose Hart Misczuk and the late Felix Thomas Misczuk.
He was a graduate of Port Jervis High School and later attended the Center for the Media Arts in Manhattan.
Tom received an EMMY for Outstanding Investigative Reporting, as well as a New York Film Festival Award for documentary reporting and producing. He has also received several other EMMY nominations, and various other awards for everything from features to investigative reports.

Manuel J. “Manny” Cano, 69 of Rhinebeck, NY, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.
He moved to Rhinebeck in 1972, and for 30 years, he owned and operated Dutchess Canvas in Milan, NY.
Manny was a member of the Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck.
Born January 21, 1935, in Copiague, NY, he was the son of the late Manuel A. and Amelia (Orlando) Cano, Sr. He graduated from Amityville High School, and, on November 26, 1955, in Peekskill, NY, he married Maria A. Zumbo. Mrs. Cano survives hime at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five children; Tina M. Cano, Cheryl Marquardt, Manuel Scott Cano, Laura & husband Dan Theisen, all of Red Hook, and Rhonda & Tony Parcesepi of Rhinebeck, two sisters; Carole DeMino of Spencerport, NY, Adriana Ludgate of Copiuague, NY, seven grandchildren, Danica and KayseyTate, Kelly, Bryan, and Matthew Marquardt, Nicholas and AlexandraTheisen, and several nieces & nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Monday, Aug. 2nd, at Church of the Good Shepherd, Rhinebeck. Burial will be at St. Paul's Cemetery in Red Hook at a later date.

Wright P. “Bob” Marsh, 78 of Poughkeepsie and formerly of Red Hook, died Tuesday, July 27th, 2004 in the Eden Park Nursing Home, Poughkeepsie, NY.
For over 50 years, Bob was a salesman employed by Chief Electronics in Poughkeepsie, NY.
He was a longtime active member of United Methodist Church of Red Hook, and for many years he served on the Booard of Trustees of the church.
Born July 19, 1926, in Astoria, NY, he was the son of Harry and Elizabeth Pertoutka Marsh.
On December 5, 1954 in Poughkeepsie, Bob married Julia Bolde. She predeceased him on October 4, 1982.
He is survived by one brother: Harry Marsh of Wappingers Falls, five nephews and a niece; Richard Gallose of Sayville, NY, Robert Gallose and James Gallose of Long Island, Edward Marsh of Poughkeepsie, Harry A. Marsh of Dover, NY, and Deborah Hazzard of Charlestown, W. VA. Several grand nieces and nephews also survive him.
A sister, Elizabeth Gallose, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church of Red Hook, 4 Church St., Red Hook on Monday, August 2, 2004 at 10:00 AM, with the Reverend David Jolly officiating.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, August 1, 2004 from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook. Interment
will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.

Margaret MacArthur Steubesand, 90, a former Wakefield and Lynn, MA resident, passed away, Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the Ferncliff Nursing Home.
Mrs. Steubesand was a former waitress at the Red Coach Grill in Saugus, MA for 42 years. She was a volunteer at the Wakefield-Melrose Hospital and enjoyed golfing, bowling, tennis, horseback riding and traveling. As the matriarch of the family she also valued time with family and friends.
Born January 14, 1914 in Somerville, MA, she was the daughter of George and Janet (Belle) Beattie. She was a graduate of Medford High School class of 1932.
Her husband Ernest Steubesand, whom she married in 1933, passed away in 1974.
Mrs. Steubesand is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Ernest Jacob and Erika Steubesand of Rhinebeck, a sister Elizabeth of Wakefield, two grandchildren Linda and Karl Steubesand of Rhinebeck, a great granddaughter Danielle K. Amidon, and many nieces and nephews
She was predeceased by four sisters Jane, Isabelle, Janet and May and a brother John.
Calling hours are Sunday, July 30, 2004, 6 to 9 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, MA. Funeral services are Monday, 11 AM, at the Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.

Anna M. Haiss, a homemaker and lifetime Sullivan County resident, died on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. She was 99 years of age.
The daughter of the late Michael and Anna Monahan Mullen, she was born on July 14, 1905 in Parksville, NY.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Liberty.
Survivors include a son, Charles M. Haiss and his wife Janet of Woodbourne; 2 daughters, Susanne Meyer and her husband Carl of Bethel and Henrietta Lynch of Liberty; a son-in-law, George Wagner of Bethel, NY; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Charles Haiss and a daughter, Elizabeth Wagner.

Rudy Filipovits, a former resident of Ferndale, died on Sunday, July 25, 2004 in Maryland after a short illness. He was 54.
The son of Paul and Helen Ivankovits Filipovits, he was born on April 5, 1950 in Hungary. He moved to the United States in 1957.
Rudy lived in Baltimore, MD for 37 years moving there from Ferndale, NY. He was a 27 year employee of Martin’s Caterers of Baltimore, MD and was former manager of the Concord Hotel Coffee Shop in Kiamesha Lake, NY.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Liberty and the Father Thomas Cronin Knights of Columbus in Liberty.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Filipovits of Ferndale; a son, Scott Filipovits and his wife Jenny of Taneytown, MD; a daughter, Tracy Filipovits of Laurel MD; 1 granddaughter, Emma; a brother, John Filipovits and his companion, Nancy Crawford, of White Sulphur Springs, FL; his beloved fiancé, Brenda Madison at home; his former wife, Sue Filipovits of Maryland; an uncle Hans and his wife Gerlinda of Austria and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Paul Filipovits, who died in 1987.

Donald L. Conn, 67, a lifetime resident of Red Hook, NY, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.
For 22 years he was a maintenance worker at Hudson River Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie. He retired in 1990.
Don was a member of Red Hook-Rhinebeck Lodge 2022 BPOE, and a past member of the Red Hook Boat Club.
An accomplished athlete, in high school he was on the All-County teams in basketball, baseball, and football. As an adult, he played baseball and basketball throughout the Dutchess, Ulster and Columbia County area in the Industrial, the City of Poughkeepsie, and the Kingston Leagues.
Born May 7, 1937, in Rhinebeck, he was the son of the late Harry W. and Bertha M. (Coons) Conn, Sr. He graduated from Red Hook High School in 1956.
Three nieces, Jody Almgren of Ft. Collins, CO, Jocelyn Fairlee of Schenectady, NY, and Jill Andrews of Harpursville, NY, as well as several cousins, and many good friends survive him.
His brother, Harry W. Conn, Jr., died on July 29, 1994.

Madison D. Farnum

Madison D. Farnum, 86, of Sebastian, FL, formerly of Staatsburg, NY, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Hospice House in Vero Beach.
Born November 5, 1917, in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late Mathew and Beatrice Farnum. Educated in the Schenectady schools, he graduated in 1935 form Mt. Pleasant High School.
In 1939 he graduated from the University of Rochester, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Distinction in French. In 1940 he received a Master’s Degree, also from the University of Rochester.
From that time until his retirement in 1977, Mr. Farnum taught French in the Hyde Park School District. He also coached football for twenty years at the school. At the time of his retirement he was the head of the foreign language department.
His teaching career was interrupted by a two-year period of service as a naval officer with the US amphibious forces in the Pacific during World War II, and during 1962-63 when he was an exchange teacher of English in the lycee of Abbeville, France. This was under a Fulbright scholarship grant.
A member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach, he was also a seasonal member of Christ Episcopal Church in Red Hook.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey (Painter) Farnum of Sebastian; two daughters by a former marriage; Dianne Schroder of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Janet Pagano of Poughquag, NY, two step children; Howard R. Velie of Wappingers Falls, NY and Ann K. Ferenz of Wellington, FL. Eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive him.

Suzanne V. Trupia, 81, of Red Hook, NY, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.
Mrs. Trupia and her husband moved to Red Hook in 1968 from Whitestone, NY where she had worked for Teachers Insurance.
Born February 28, 1923, in Long Island City, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Mae (VanValen) Rothe. On June 8, 1947, at Mt. Carmel Church in Astoria, NY she married Louis Trupia. Mr. Trupia survives her at home.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brother, William Rothe of Thomaston, Conn, and several nieces and nephews.

Leonard J. Alguire, 76, of Milan, NY, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.
A Milan resident for the past 20 years, he moved here from Long Island.
Before his retirement, he worked for the Mason Tenders Union, Local #79, in New York, NY.
Born February 2, 1928, in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Leonard and Peggy (Mason) Alguire. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II, and, on Sept. 19, 1946, in Brooklyn, he married Elizabeth Harris. Mrs. Alguire survives him at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons and their wives; Kenneth & Dixie Alguire of Port Richie, FL and Mark & Amanda Alguire of Minnetonka, Minn; 3 Grandchildren; Kim Muller, Miles Alguire, and Lauren Alguire, and 3 Great grandchildren; Raymond Muller, Dominick Muller, and Janeen Alguire.
A son, Timothy L. Alguire, predeceased him on Dec. 28, 1992.

Mary C. Hanshaw died Friday, July 16, 2004 at Tenbroeck Commons Nursing Home in Lake Katrine. She was 84 years old.
She was born August 6, 1920 in Greenup, KY, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lief Ben.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Hanshaw.
She worked as a chef in various restaurants in Ulster County. She was a volunteer for The Beacon House. She was a member of the Church of Christ on Pearl Street in Kingston.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Hanshaw and a granddaughter, Daphine Hanshaw, both of Lake Katrine.
Cremation was at the convenience of the family.

Jeannette Athans of Saugerties died Monday, July 19, 2004 at Golden Hill Health Related Facility. She was 88 years old.
She was born November 9, 1915 in Brooklyn, NY. She was the daughter of John and Helen Stergius Stamatelos.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Constantine “Gus” Athans in 1971.
She was a communicant of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and a former member of Senior citizens Club #1 in Saugerties.
She is survived hr a son-in-law, John Foundas of Saugerties; two granddaughters, Constance “Tori” Sailer of Hoboken, NJ and Demetra Dicembrino of Weston, Fla. She is also survived hr four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Christine Foundas and two sisters Gloria Panos and Katherine Nichols.
A procession will form 8:45 AM Friday, July 23, 2004 at Buono Funeral Service Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, NY and proceed to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 294 Greenkill Ave., Kingston, NY where at 10:00 AM a Service will be held.
