Oakleigh Hamm

Oakleigh Hamm, 87 of, Red Hook, NY, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.
Born February 12, 1917, in Elizaville, NY, he was the son of the late Wakley and Alice Mae (Sharpe) Hamm. He graduated from Eastman Business School in Poughkeepsie. On May 23, 1937 in Elizaville, he married Cleo P. Arettia. She died on Oct. 13, 1995.
Oak played shortstop for the Cooperstown minor league baseball team at Doubleday Field. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer.
He was sales manager for Park & Paloud Feed Co. in Richfield Springs, NY from 1938-1939, and then worked for C&E Trucking Co. until 1952. From 1952 until 1963, he and his wife owned and operated Oak & Cleo’s Variey Store & Soda Fountain in Red Hook. Oak then became superintendant of buildings and grounds at Red Hook Central Schools until 1979 when he retired.
After retirement, he worked for Silver Lake Dairy from 1979 to the mid 1980s, and then drove for Laidlaw Bus Co. for 15years. For the last 5 years, until his death, he was a greeter at Walmart in Kingston.
An active member of the community, he was a member of the United Methodist Church of Red Hook, a Charter Member of the Red Hook Rotary Club, a member of the Society for the Apprehension and Detention of Horse Thieves, Past Master of the Red Hook Grange #918, POH, an auxiliary member of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Dept., a founding member and former game warden of the Elizaville Gun Club, a lifelong 4H member, and a past member of the Red Hook Fire Company & Rescue Squad.
In the early 1950’s he was one of 2 men who conducted a door-to-door canvass of the Red Hook Village to get approval for home mail delivery in the village.
Oak joined the Widow’s Son Masonic Lodge in Livingston in 1948, and was a 55 year member and Past Master of Hendrick Hudson Lodge #875 F&AM, and a Past Patron of the Hendrick Hudson Chapter of the Eastern Star in Red Hook. He was a 50-year member of the Cyprus Shrine in Albany, the Shiners Hospital Million Dollar Club, and a member of the Dutchess County Shrine Club.
He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Patricia & William Asher of Red Hook, his grandchildren; Robin Proper and Kevin & Denise Asher of Red Hook, Ann-Marie Asher of Hyde Park, William & Lois Asher and Daniel Asher of Rhinebeck, and step granddaughter, Morgan Gerardi of Rhinebeck. 5 Great grandchildren; Travis, Kelly & Shannon Proper, and Ryan & Haley Asher also survive him.
Friends may call at the Burnett White Funeral Home, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook, on Thursday, July 22nd, from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM. The Masons will hold services at 8:00 PM.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 23rd, at the funeral home. The Reverend David Jolly will officiate. Interment
will be Friday in Elizaville Methodist Cemetery.

Harold J. Briggs, 57 of Rhinebeck, NY, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital, in Poughkeepsie, NY.
A self-employed carpenter, Harold was a member of the Casperkill Gun Club, the Trail Sweepers Ski Club in Kingston, and the Onterora Runers Club in Kingston.
He served in the US Army in Thailand during the Viet Nam War.
Born on October 22, 1946, in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of Dorothy Alice (Slocum) Briggs of Moores Mills, NY the late Oliver Kenneth Briggs. He attended school in the 1 room schoolhouse in Moores Mills through the 8th grade, and graduated from Millbrook High School.
On September 1, 1973, he married Debbie Messick in Verbank, NY. She survices him at home.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by 2 brothers, a sister and their spouses; Larry E. & Marki Briggs of Havertown, PA, Richard & Nellie Briggs of Fishkill, and Ruth & Harold Porter of Port Ewen, NY; and 4 nephews, and 2 nieces; Grayson Briggs, Casey Briggs, Preston Briggs, Sally Briggs, Christopher Porter, and Jennifer Porter.
The family will receive friends at the Burnett & White Funeral Home, 91 E. Market St, Rhinebeck, on Thursday, July 22nd, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
There will be a memorial service at the funeral home Thursday evening at 7:30 PM, during the visiting hours. remation and interment

Thomas W. Tomlinson

Thomas W. Tomlinson, 62, a longtime Red Hook resident, died Monday, July 19, 2004 at his home.
For over 36 years until his retirement, Mr. Tomlinson was a foreman with the New York State Department of Transportation in Red Hook. He also was the owner and operator of TnT Moving, which would specialize in moving items to and from Florida.
Tom was an avid car enthusiast. He enjoyed attending car shows and was a member of the Pontiac Club. He served in the United States Navy.
Born Belmore, NY on April 27th, 1942, he was the son of William and Helen Clanton Tomlinson.
Survived by one son: Thomas N. Tomlinson of Germantown, NY and one daughter: Lorie Tomlinson of Saratoga, NY, a sister: Ardys Cassella of Syossett, NY and a brother: Edward Tomlinson of Rockville, MD. Three grandchildren, Nathan Tomlinson, Jessica & John Taylor Holt also survive.

Mabel T. “Tommie” Bradford, 95, of Rhinebeck, NY, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at her home.
A Rhinebeck resident on a part-time basis for her entire life, she moved here as a full-time resident in 1969 from Ridgefield Park, NJ.
Tommie was an elementary school teacher for 35 years at Horace Mann School in Bayonne, NJ where she taught 2nd grade. She retired in 1964.
She was a 41 year member of the Presbyterian Church in Bayonne. She was also a member of the Orange City Shuffleboard Club in Orange City, Fl, where she and her husband spent many of their winters.
Born January 7, 1909, in Bayonne, NJ, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Pearl (Buckley) Thomas. She graduated from Bayonne High School, and Montclaire State University in Montclaire, NJ.
On July 2, 1938, at the Drew University Chapel in East Orange, NJ, she married Howard L. Bradford. Mr. Bradford survives her at home.
A sister, Lillian Thomas Gallo, predeceased her in 1964.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, July 25th, at the Burnett & White Funeral Home, 91 E. Market St, Rhinebeck, NY. The Rev. John Koppenaal will officiate. Interment
will be in the Rhinebeck Cemetery at a later date.

Linda S. Kipp

Linda S. Kipp, 50, of Kingston, died on July 17, 2004 at home. Born on March 1, 1954, she was the daughter of Shirley A. Kipp and the late Lorin H. Kipp. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park in 1972.
She was a devoted mother to four beautiful children, and a kind friend to many. Throughout her life, she demonstrated extraordinary skill in many areas of crafts, and often earned recognition for her accomplishments in costume creations.
In addition to her mother, survivors include her four children, Jesse Lynn Cubito, Corey Joseph Cubito, Casey Louise Cubito, and Samuel Lorin Cubito of Kingston; her companion Gary Bradford of Wappingers Falls and his four children, Amanda, Avary, Matt, and Ben Bradford; her brother, Donald Kipp of Marlboro; an aunt, two uncles, two cousins, three nieces, and two nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother Dennis Kipp.
Calling hours are Monday, 6 to 8 PM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. Funeral services are Tuesday, 10 AM at the Funeral Home. Rev. John Koppenaal will officiate.

Alice A. Keator, a lifelong Liberty resident and a homemaker, passed away on Thursday July 15, 2004 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 80.
The daughter of the late Clarence and Roseanna Abplanalp Greene, she was born on July 29, 1923 in Liberty, NY.
Alice was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Liberty.
Survivors include her husband, Harry J. Keator at home; 1 son, Colan Keator and his wife
Catherine of Swan Lake; 5 grandchildren, Rebecca VanKeuren, Sarah Balmer, Anne Gouvnor, Mary Alice Keator and Kimberly Keator.
She was predeceased by a son Dale Keator, a brother Charles and 2 sisters, Betty and Marie.
Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope.
Burial of ashes will be in Liberty Cemetery at a future date.

Archie MacDonald, 60, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 in Hudson, NY.
He was born March 5, 1944 in Nova Scotia, the son Lydia Mae MacDonald and the late William MacDonald.. He was a truck driver for Haine’s Oil and a member of the Saugerties ELKS.
He is survived by his wife, the former Christine Morrissey; 5 sons, Joseph Tritto, David MacDonald, John MacDonald, Robert Zolzer, and Steven Zolzer; 1 daughter, Elizabeth Stahtam; 1 sister Lois Gorman; 3 brothers, John, Robert and James MacDonald; and a companion, Kathv Steindl. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two brothers Edward and Thomas MacDonald.

William Elmore Fraleigh, 57, a lifelong Red Hook resident, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.
For over 39 years, Bill worked as an Ad Service Associate at the Poughkeepsie Journal.
Bill was an avid photographer and collector of sports memorabilia. He often would combine these two interest every year when he would travel to Major League Baseball´s spring training in Arizona and photgraph many of the players. Bill also enjoyed stamp collecting and vacationing in Maine.
He was a member of the Red Hook Grange #918 Patrons Of Husbandry in Red Hook, NY since 1961.
Born on July 16, 1946, in Rhinebeck, NY, he was the son of Barbara (Rutherford) Fraleigh of Red Hook and the late Elmore Fraleigh. Bill was a graduate of the Red Hook School District and attended SUNY New Paltz.
Along with his mother, a brother David Fraleigh & his wife Karen of Red Hook and a sister Rosalie Skelly & her husband Joseph of Tuscan, AZ, survive him. Three nieces; Sarah Fraleigh, Jackie & Beth Skelly and two nephews; Peter & Steven Fraleigh also survive.
Memorial service will be held on Monday, July 19, 2004 at 10:30 AM at the Burnett & White Funeral Home, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook. The Rev. Samuel Rodenhizer and the Rev. Wesley Smith of Grace Community Evangelical Free Church in Lake Katrine will officiate.

Helen Mrazek, 86, a 25-year resident of Millbrook, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004.
She was born on June 17, 1918 in New York City to Frank and Mary Kralicek Komornik.
In 1939, she married Steven Mrazek and they resided in Mount Vernon, N.Y. for 40 years, where she was employed as a real estate agent. They retired to Millbrook in 1979.
Helen was predeceased by her loving husband in 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Conkling of Putnam Valley, N.Y.; a son, Steven J. Mrazek of Lagrangeville; two brothers, Frank Komornik of Deer Park, N.Y. and Michael Komornik of Massapequa, N.Y.; granddaughters, Stephanie Conkling and Michelle Aloia; grandson, Steven T. Mrazek; two great-granddaughters; and family in Endicott, N.Y., Tyler, Texas and Port Richie, Fla.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Millbrook.

Daniel M. Huber, 53, a resident of Tivoli since 1981, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004 at home.
Mr. Huber was a union carpenter with Local #203 in Poughkeepsie. He was a member of the Red Hook VFW. Mr. Huber served in the United States Army in Korea during Vietnam.
Born in Auburn on Sept. 19, 1951, he was the son of the late Lawrence Frederick Huber Sr. and Rachel L. Gaby Huber who survives in Pleasant Valley. In addition to his mother, survivors include two sons, Daniel James Huber of Broomes Island, Md., and Steven Tobias Huber of Tivoli; one granddaughter, Kaitlin Faith Huber of Broomes Island, Md.; six sisters, Gloria Dingee of Vermont, Mary Real of Bellingham, Wash., Sandy Gentile of Poughkeepsie, Barbara McCombs of Rhinebeck, Carol Siefermann of Wappingers Falls, and Susan Coggins of Scranton, Pa.; three brothers, Lawrence Huber Jr. of Raleigh, NC, Timothy Huber of Pleasant Valley, and Carl Huber of Clearwater, Fla.; many nieces and nephews, and two longtime friends, Charlie Beauregard of Red Hook and Ed Sweeney of Bangall. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his brother, Bernard Huber.

Joseph T. Cahill, Jr.
Pleasant Valley, NY
Joseph T. Cahill Jr., 76, a lifelong resident of Pleasant Valley, died of complications from Alzheimer's Disease on Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.
Joe spent his professional career as a very talented design engineer for the IBM Corporation in Fishkill, retiring in 1982 after 35 years. Following retirement, he continued to work as a consultant in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. and Keene, N.H. until 1998.
Upon graduating from Arlington High School in 1946, he joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. Joe was very proud of the service he gave his country. Joe dearly loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a great love of the outdoors and in his early years could be found coaching in the Pleasant Valley Little League, camping with Boy Scout Troop 33, or hunting with his father and sons. His children have the fond memory of their dad all bundled up with a rifle over his shoulder each Thanksgiving morning. He and his family traveled many miles in the Pleasant Valley Vagabonds camping club and the Airstream Travel Club. He was known as a generous volunteer and gave many hours of his time to his community. He was involved in the Pleasant Valley Fire Department for over 45 years and served as captain of the fire police. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he continued to support our country in the American Legion. He also sat on the Zoning Board for the Town of Pleasant Valley. As lifelong residents of Pleasant Valley, Joe and his wife shared an interest in preserving the history of their town by serving as members of the Pleasant Valley Historical Society. Together, they also helped to cultivate and preserve the gardens at the Vanderbilt Garden Club. Joe's spirit and love of life will always be remembered and cherished.
Born in Poughkeepsie on July 13, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph T. and Mildred Cahill Sr. of Pleasant Valley. Being of Irish descent, Joe was proud to be an IrishAmerican and passed his love and pride onto his children.
On Sept. 16, 1949, Joe married Vivian G. Deats in Pleasant Valley. His loving wife of 55 years resides at home in Pleasant Valley with Joe's beloved cats, Blue and Scoot. In addition to his wife, survivors include his sister, Barbara Ann and her husband, Ernie Chace, of Beverly Hills, Fla.; two sons, Timothy R. Cahill and his wife, Nancy Lee, of Argyle, N.Y. and Michael W. Cahill of Pleasant Valley; and three daughters, Kathleen M. Cruger and her husband, Charles, of Columbia, S.C., Susan A. Lasko and her husband, Darryl, of Rhinebeck and Maureen F. Pratt and her husband, Joseph, of Greenfield Center, N.Y. Survivors also include 10 adored grandchildren, Sharleen, Benjamin, Chad, Kyle, Daniel, Michelle, Brandi, Darryl Sue, Vivian and Julia; three great-grandchildren, Alana, Maude and Liam; and his lifelong friends and in-laws, Fred Albrecht, his wife, Dolores, and their children, Dawn, Kevin and Karl. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his much loved son, Daniel Joseph Cahill, on Sept. 22, 1978.
A private family service will be held on Tuesday at the Allen Funeral Home in Pleasant Valley. Burial will be in the family plot at Washington Hollow Cemetery. Robert A. Westergard Sr.

Robert A. Westergard Sr., 90, a longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, died on Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
For 36 years, Mr. Westergard was employed in the bindery at Western Printing in Poughkeepsie until his retirement in 1978.
He worked hard all his life. He enjoyed photography and walking around the city he loved.
Born in Yonkers, N.Y. on July 24, 1914, he was the son of Christopher and Mamie Reiff Westergard.
On April 21, 1934, he married Jennie Eliza Riley at Holy Trinity Church in Saugerties. His wife survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Holsopple of the Town of Poughkeepsie; a son, Lance Westergard of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three grandsons, Edward Holsopple Jr., Robert A. Westergard III and Scott Westergard; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Robert A. Westergard Jr.; two brothers, Alfred and Raymond Westergard; and two grandsons, Eric Lance Westergard and Shawn E. Holsopple.

Jane Brice York
Rhinecliff, NY
Jane Brice York, 79, a Rhinecliff resident since 1971, passed away Monday, October 11, 2004, at the Thompson House, Rhinebeck.
Mrs. York was employed as a Bank Teller for the Rhinebeck Savings Bank until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of the Good Shepherd/St. Joseph’s Parish and was very active in the Rhinebeck Garden Club and the Friends of the Starr Library.
Born July 20, 1925 in Waterbury, CT, she was the daughter of Francis J. and Helen (Sullivan) Brice.
On October 11, 1952 she married Asa F. York, Mr. York passed away July 11, 1994.
Mrs. York is survived by several close friends.
