C. Dorothy Brooke

C. Dorothy Brooke, 85, formerly of Rhinebeck, NY, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004 in Vero Beach, FL where she has lived since 1988.
Born March 9, 1919, in Roselle, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Katherine (Schutz) Kuhl. On April 6, 1947, in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Middletown, NY, she married Henry W. Brooke. They lived in Middletown until 1963 when they moved to Rhinebeck. Mr. Brooke died on July 25, 1985.
Mrs. Brooke was a secretary for New York State for many years.
She was a member of the Third Evangelical Lutheran Church, and of the Beekman Chapter #496 Order of the Eastern Star, both in Rhinebeck, and a past member of the Dutchess County Business and Professional Women’s Association.
A daughter, Philippine K. Brooke, MD of Orlando, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews survive her.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM on Thursday, Oct 14th, at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 91 E. Market St., Rhinebeck. Burial will be in Wallkill Cemetery, Middletown, NY, and will be private.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 - 4 PM. The Eastern Star will hold services at the funeral home at 2:30 PM.

Zella R. Panebaker

Zella R. Panebaker of Liberty died on Thursday October 7, 2004 at the Achieve Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Liberty. She was 104.
Mrs. Panebaker was born in Champaign, IL on September 15, 1900 to the late John R. and Helen Reynolds Reid. She was the widow of David E. Panebaker.
Mrs. Panebaker was a graduate of Cornell University and worked as a schoolteacher for many years. She was a resident of Liberty since 1930 when she moved from Albion. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Monticello, the Liberty Garden Club, Sarah Wells Council of Girl Scouts, the Liberty Library Board, the Daughters of the American Revolution (PAR), and the Alter Guild of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
She is survived by 2 daughters Helen P. Farrell of Syracuse and Shirley P. Krum of Endwell as well as 2 grandsons, 1 great-great grandson and 1 great- great granddaughter.
There will be no visitation.
A Graveside funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Ninon Hutchinson at the family plot in Liberty Cemetery, on Monday October 11, 2004 at 1:30 PM.

Edna Vivian Cuddeback Patterson

Mrs. Edna C. Patterson of Otisville, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, October 8, 2004 at the home of her daughter, Glenda in Middletown with both of her daughters by her side. She was 91.
The daughter of the Warren and Harriet M. Drake Cuddeback, she was a descendent of the original Cuddebacks and grew up on the farm on Galley Hill Road. She was born April 1, 1913 in Cuddebackville, NY
She is believed to have been the first milkmaid delivering in Orange County, serving the Otisville community until her marriage in 1935. In 1999 she unveiled the memorial honoring her ancestor, Jacques Cuddeback (1666-1767) during a weekend long family reunion, which brought Cuddebacks from all over the world. The memorial is located at the corner of Routes 209 and 211 in Cuddebackville.
Edna was one of the founders of the Otisville Country Garden Club. She was a deacon of the Otisville-Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School, was Treasurer of the Memorial Committee, was a faithful member of the Wednesday morning prayer meeting and was a member of the Women’s Association.
Her life centered around her family, church and her garden. She was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, was interested in the stock market, politics and the news of the day. She was also a ‘sharpshooter’ with her .22 rifle.
She was the widow of the Glenn R. Patterson, who passed away August 2, 1998. She was also predeceased by her brother, Frank Cuddeback, sister Helen Cuddeback Barron, granddaughter, Nancy Anne Teabo and he sons-in-law, William L. Sandoe and Wally Sheil.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan P. Sheil of Sarasota, FL and Glenda P. Teabo-Sandoe of Middletown; 5 grandchildren, Carl Wilber and his wife, Laurie of Illinois, Geoffrey G. Teabo and his wife, Laurence of London, England, Michelle Wilbur of Florida, Laura Anne Bendlin and her husband, David of Otisville, Eric W. Sandoe of Penna. She was the loving great-grandmother to Jasmine and Jared Sale, Ryan, Sean and Emma Wilbur, Alisha Sandoe, and Tia and Arianna Bendlin. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Ashworth of Little Falls, NY, dear friend, Carol Colavito and many nieces and nephews.

Michael “Mikey” Percaccio a resident of Smallwood, NY died peacefully Tuesday night at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris after a brief illness. The son of the late Michael and Irma Vannucci Percaccio, Michael was born on July 24,1944 in Brooklyn. He was 60 years old.
He was the beloved brother of Louis and his wife Emma Percaccio of Staten Island, and 2 sisters Millie and her husband Warren Aplin of Brooklyn and Linda Frigenti of Smallwood, caregiver. In addition to Michael’s sibling., he is also survived by his devoted nieces and nephews and their spouses: Alison Aplin, Lynda Spencer, Michael(Lina) Percaccio, Robert(Nancy) Aplin, and Karen Percaccio; eight great nieces and nephews; an aunt, Felicia Yannotti, an adopted niece, Tracy Novembri and an adopted brother in law, Bill Stevens.
The family will receive friends on Friday October 9, 2004 at Sabatino Funeral Home, Inc. 323 Avenue U Brooklyn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 10, 2004 at 9:30 AM at Saints Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church 155 Van Sicklen Street Brooklyn. Richard J. Guido

Richard J. Guido, 83, of Hyde Park, died on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Mr Guido was employed at IBM Poughkeepsie for 30 years until his retirement in 1982.
He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church and a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 170 Vail-Wolfe McKenna-Frye and the American Legion John Livingstone Post 1466.
Born on May 21, 1921 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of Ferdinando and Rosina Carpino Guido. On August 26, 1945, he married Frances Myshasko in Hudson, N.Y. Mrs. Guido survives at home. A family statement reads: "He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed fishing and gardening."
In addition to his wife, Frances, Mr. Guido is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Thomas Kowalski of Staatsburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Ellen Guido of Hyde Park; five grandchildren, Michael Kowalski and his wife, Amorosia, David Kowalski and Christopher, LeeAnna and Katherine Rose Guido; a great-granddaughter, Sierra Rose Kowalski; a brother, John Guido; of Wappingers Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Marie, in 1954, and two brothers, Leonard and Frank.
Visitation will be held from 10:3011:30 a.m. on Friday at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Friday at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, 185 Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
Barbara “Snookie” Dixon

Barbara “Snookie” Dixon of Fred Short Road died Sunday, October 3, 2004 at her home. She was 64.
She was born in Saugerties on April 24, 1940 a daughter of the late Lawrence John and Julia Johnson Lindhurst.
A lifelong area resident, for 24 years Mrs. Dixon tender bar at Gallagher’s Bar in Saugerties. She also worked at Lachmanns Bakery and for Stewart’s Ice Cream in Zena.
Her husband George H. Dixon died March 14, 1995.
Surviving are one son Kevin G. Dixon of Clermont, Florida; two daughters Shari Dixon of Micanopy, Florida and Erica Walbroehl of Palenville; one brother Jim Lindhurst Sr. of Mount Dora, Florida; 4 grandchildren; and 2 nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Saugerties Elks Lodge, Route 32 on Sunday, October 10th from 12:00 - 4:00 PM.
Mrs. Grace J. Z. Gibby

Mrs. Grace J. Z. Gibby of Brick, NJ a former longtime resident of Montague, NJ, died Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Meridian Hospice Home, Ocean County, NJ. She was 93.
She was born May 27, 1911 in Lagidonia, Italy, the daughter of the late Vincent and the late Ripalda Curci Zichella.
She came from Italy to Montclair, NJ at the age of 5. She graduated from the Bloomfield, NJ Technical High School where she trained as a bookkeeper. Her 1st job was at a butcher shop in Montclair and later at the Walpack Inn which was founded by her family. For many years she was a clerical worker at the Newton Memorial Hospital and had also worked at Britt’s Dept. Store in Newton, managing the music dept.
Grace was a woman with a unique personality and sense of humor and will be remembered by many residents of the area as a loving, outgoing, caring and energetic person who loved life, her family and those around her.
She is survived by a close friend, Curtis Barry of Montague, NJ; a great-nephew, Joseph Arminio of Brick, NJ; also several other nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Virginia Louise Gebbia, 80, of Red Hook, NY, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck. A former resident of Hasting-on-Hudson, NY, she moved here in August of 1990.
A registered nurse, prior to her retirement, she worked at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers.
Mrs. Gebbia was a member of St. Christopher’s Church and its Senior Citizens, the Ladies’ Guild in Red Hook, the Red Hook Senior Citizens, and the AARP.
Born September 24, 1924, in Yonkers, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Anna (Kollar) Begany. She married Joseph Gebbia on August 14, 1948 in Holy Trinity Church in Yonkers. Mr. Gebbia died on May 8, 1959.
A daughter; Patricia A. Virga of Red Hook, a son & daughter-in-law; William J. & Eileen Gebbia of Rockledge, FL; 4 grandchildren; Joseph & wife Kimberly Virga, Danielle Virga, Joseph Gebbia, and Jean & husband John Buonarobo, 5 great grandchildren; Alyssa Virga, Jevon Johnson, Anthony and Stephanie Buonarobo, and Dejonelle Buckley survive her.
A sister, Cecilia Hultenius, predeceased her on August 1, 2002.

Eugenia R. Bradley

Eugenia Frederika “Jean” Bradley, 83, a lifelong Red Hook resident, died Monday, October 4, 2004, at the Adventist Nursing Home in Livingston, NY.
Jean was the secretary for Norton Insurance Agency in Red Hook for many years. In 1961, she was elected Red Hook Town Tax Collector. Re-elected to that post five times, she retired in 1971.
She was a member of the Red Hook Town Republican Committee, and served as it’s secretary for a number of years. Jean also served as the President of the Red Hook Women’s Republican Club, and, for over 50 years, as an election inspector.
She was a past member of the Red Hook Grange #918, POH.
A lifelong member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Rock City, she was the 1st woman to serve on the church’s council, and, for many years, she taught Sunday School at the church, and sang in the choir.
Born April 20, 1921, in Rhinebeck, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Elsie (Kastendieck) Rhoades. She was one of the first graduates of the Red Hook Central High School, graduating in the class of 1938. Among her many high school activities, she was a member of the 1935-36 basketball team. Her 17 member senior class voted her “most energetic” and “best dancer”. In 1939, she graduated from the Krissler Business School in Poughkeepsie. In 1948, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Rock City, she married Robert Wooley Bradley.
She was predeceased by her husband on June 9, 1969, her brother, William Rhoades, on March 23, 2000, and her granddaughter, Angela Bradley, on Feb. 10, 2004.
She is survived by a daughter: Roberta E. MacFarlane of Waldorf, MD, a son & daughter-in-law: William W. and Debra J. Bradley of Livingston, NY, a sister & brother-in-law: Blanche & Warren (Doug) Traudt of Red Hook, 4 grandchildren: Brittany Muzzey of Newburgh, MD, Ryan MacFarlane of Waldorf, MD, Miranda Bradley of Red Hook, and Robert Bradley of Livingston, a great grandson; Benjamin Mattingley of Newburgh, MD and many nieces & nephews.

Alfred J. Bogad

Alfred J. Bogad, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Friday, Oct. 1, 2004. He was 78 and had been ill for over a year.
Mr. Bogad was born in Brooklyn in 1925 to Simon and Rose Block Bogad. He served in the United States Infantry in Europe during World War II. After the war, until 1972, he was a sales and marketing executive for Western Publishing Company.
In 1971, Mr. Bogad married the former Alice C. Rose and soon after, retired from Western Publishing. He and Alice then purchased the G.H. Ford Tea Company, a local manufacturer of gourmet teas. Together, they expanded the business throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan before selling it and retiring in 1992. When they weren't busy with the tea company, Alice and Al traveled in the United States, Europe, Africa, and Israel. They celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary on September 30th.
Mr. Bogad was a lifelong member of Vassar Temple. He served on the temple's board of trustees and finance committee and as the temple's treasurer. He was also a past president of the Poughkeepsie Rotary Club. For many years, he was an active member of the Rotary Club's board of directors and a Paul Harris fellow.
Mr. Bogad is survived by Alice; their grandchildren, Jason and Caleb Elfenbein, and Isadora Tharin; Alice's children; and his cousin, Morton Block.
There will be a memorial service at 2:30 p.m., on Monday afternoon, at Vassar Temple. The family will sit shiva in the community room at 141 Fulton Avenue from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the evening on Monday and Tuesday.

Robin Rosenthal Rayfield

Robin Rosenthal Rayfield, 55, a lifelong Poughkeepsie resident, died Thursday, September 30, 2004, at home, surrounded by loving family and friends after a long battle with Breast Cancer.
An active member of the community, she served on the board of the Child Abuse Prevention Center, volunteered with Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Organization, the Dutchess County SPCA, the Rehab Golf Tournament and various other organizations. An avid golfer, Robin belonged to the Dutchess Golf and Country Club, played in the Dinsmore Ladies Golf League, and Vassar V's Golf League.
Born on September 17, 1949 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd L. Rosenthal and the late Winona Levitch Rosenthal. Robin was a lifetime member of Vassar Temple in Poughkeepsie.
She is survived by her daughters and their partners, Nina Rayfield and Jeremy Tate; Jody Rayfield and Glenn Cunningham; and Jana Rayfield, all of Boston, MA. In addition, she is survived by three sisters and their spouses, Susan and Alan Ashare of Chestnut Hill, MA; Leslie and Howard Kohn of Monroe Township, NJ; and Nancy and Ronee Fantozzi of Chapel Hill, NC; several cousins; four nieces; four nephews; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; and Max and Kitty.
A funeral service will be held at Vassar Temple, 140 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie on Sunday, October 3, 2004 at 3:30 p.m., Rabbi Stephen Arnold will officiate. Burial will follow at the Vassar Temple Cemetery in the family plot. The family will sit Shiva at their residence, Sunday evening through Tuesday evening.

Charles Richard "Red" Thorpe

Charles Richard 'Red' Thorpe, 76, a resident of Staatsburg since 1961 and formerly of Cold Spring, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004 at home. Most recently, he was an area businessman, instrumental in the formation of TNT Furniture Strippers, where he managed their lamp and brass division. Previously, he was a wholesale lumber salesman for A.C. Dutton Lumber in Poughkeepsie, retiring in 1975. He was a life member and past chief of Nelsonville Fire Company; belonged to numerous firematic organizations, including the Elmendorf Committee and Putnam County Fire Chief Association; belonged to the committee that sponsored the fireman's blue light law; former cubmaster with Cub Scouts Pack #38 in Staatsburg; former chairman of the Hyde Park Democratic Committee; Dutchess County Democratic committeeman; Hyde Park Town Councilman from 1971 to 1973; charter member of the Hyde Park Elks Club; secretary for both the Hyde Park Elks and the Poughkeepsie Moose Lodge; and served on the Hyde Park Zoning Board of Appeals. One of his proudest moments was being the honorary speaker at the Hyde Park Memorial Day services as a non-veteran.
He was an avid New York Yankee fan and collector of political memorabilia, especially presidential campaign buttons. His greatest joy in life, besides his wife, was his children and grandchildren. He always enjoyed a family project, and thrived on restoring older homes and helping or watching his children carry on his knowledge and restoring their own homes.
He was of the Roman Catholic faith. Born in Cold Spring on Oct. 7, 1927, he was the son of Charles Henry and Alice McElrath Thorpe. He was a graduate of Haldane High School, Class of 1946.
In 1951, he married Jean C. Lewis in Kingston. Mrs. Thorpe survives at home. In addition to his wife, survivors include daughters, Kathleen Tompkins and husband, Jeff of Staatsburg, and Maureen Tanner and husband, Rich of Staatsburg; four sons, Richard Thorpe and wife, Jackie of New Paltz, Russell Thorpe and wife, Susan of Kingston, Gerald Thorpe and wife, Carla of Staatsburg, and Jeffrey Thorpe and companion, Colleen of Rotterdam; daughter, Sally Jean Colletti and husband, Joe of Vestal; 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and brother, Louis Thorpe and wife, Catherine of Cold Spring; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Marian Thom, Dorothy Virgilio, and Mildred Morgan.

John E. Hubbard, Jr.

John E. Hubbard Jr., 73, of Staatsburg and a former longtime resident of Millbrook, went to join his beloved wife on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004 from Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck. Mr. Hubbard was a plant manager for Adirondack Gas Corp., in Poughkeepsie, until his retirement in 1996. Most recently, he was a courier for Taconic Press in Millbrook. He was an avid hunter.
Born in Poughkeepsie on June 26, 1931, he was the son of John E. Hubbard Sr. and Helen Horton Hubbard. In 1955, he married Margaret 'Peg' Bennett in Sharon, Conn. Mrs. Hubbard died May 24, 2000. Survivors include a son, John E. Hubbard III and wife, Tracy of Millbrook; two grandchildren, Becky Hubbard Prisco and husband, Kevin of Havelock, N.C., and John E. Hubbard IV of Millbrook; two sisters, Joan Hubbard Vail of Florida and Sandy Fitzgerald Signor of Beacon; one brother, Gary Fitzgerald of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Judy Hubbard Lown.

Mr. Frank Marinaccio, Jr. of Milford, PA a retired supervisor at Skydyne, Port Jervis and longtime resident of the area, died Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale, PA. He was 86.
He was born November 26, 1917 in New York, NY the son of the late Frank and the late Rosie Doti Marinaccio, Sr.
He was married early in life to Pearl Holmes; she died June 25, 1966; and later married to Merle Jenks Lord; she died Feb. 14, 2004.
He was a member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Matamoras, PA and was a Navy veteran of WW II.

Predeceased by a son: Frank Marinaccio, III
Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis on Sunday, October 3, 2004 2:00pm - 4:00pm & 7:00pm -9:00pm.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 4, 2004 with prayers at 9:15 am at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's R.C. Church with Rev. August A. Ricciardi officiating.
Burial will be at Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville, NY.
