Edna B. Hulse of Bethel passed away on Nov. 22, 2004 at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey PA. She was 88.
The daughter of Frank S. and Lulu Knapp Brown, she was born on April 20, 1916 in Bethel, NY.
She was retired schoolteacher for the Bodkin Elementary School in Ann-Arundel, MD. She was member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church, AARP and National Retired Teachers Assn.
Survivors include her two sons; Charles F. Hulse and his wife Phyllis of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Stephen F. Hulse and his wife Cindy of Bainbridge, PA and 3 grandchildren.
Her husband, Charles M. Hulse and her brother, Ford Brown, predeceased her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday Nov. 26, 2004 at the Bethel Presbyterian Church at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Alex McLean will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Rt. 17B, Bethel.

Mignon L. Elliott
Lake Katrine, NY
Mignon L. Elliott of Van Terrace, Lake Katrine died Monday, November 22, 2004 at Kingston Hospital. She was 76.
She was born in Patterson on July 25, 1928, a daughter of the late Reuben and Margaret Kelsey Davis. Mignon was raised in Chichester and graduated from Hunter/Tannersville High School. She then moved to Kingston and on June 26, 1948 married Chauncey Elliott.
For over 20 years Mignon worked for the Kingston Schools Consolidated on Crown Street. She retired as payroll supervisor but stayed on as a school tax collector.
An active member at the Grace Community Evangelical Free Church, Lake Katrine, she volunteered at the Baptist Home, Rhinebeck and served their auxiliary as finiancial secretary. Mignon also volunteered at Golden Hill Health Care Facility as a piano player. She knitted and crochetted for Warm Up America.
Her brother was former Ulster County Legislator William "Pucker" Davis.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Chauncey Elliott; one daughter Robin Alessi and her husband Michael of Livingston; Duane Elliott and his wife Donna of Atlantic Highlands, NJ; two granddaughters Lindsey and Brooke Elliott. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday at a time to be announced at the Grace Community Evangelical Free Church, 865 Neighborhood Road, Lake Katrine (382-2288.) Interment will be in Montrepose Cemetery.
In her memory, contributions may be made to benefit the building fund “Grace Community Church”, PO Box 720, Lake Katrine, NY 12449.

Albert A. Abdallah
Town of Ulster, NY
Albert A. Abdallah of Lucas Avenue, Town of Ulster died Tuesday, November 23, 2004. He was 85.
He was born in Kingston on September 7, 1919, a son of the late George and Effie Amrod Abdallah. Al served in the US Army during WW II as a Sergeant in the European Theater of Operations.
For over 30 years he worked for Hudson Cement where he operated a crusher. Al, for many years, also owned and operated Abdallah's Rug and Carpet, Kingston.
He was a member of the Joyce - Schirick Post 1386, V.F.W. and a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church where he served as usher.
Two brothers Joseph and John Abdallah and one sister Julia Perry all died previously.
Surviving are his wife Mildred Donnelly Abdallah; three sons Joseph A. Abdallah of Jacksonville, Florida; Philip Abdallah of Oceanside, California and Geoffrey G. Abdallah and his wife Leslie of Rifton; one daughter Elise Clausi of Palenville; seven grandchildren Shawna, Amber, Lindsay, Mariah and Abey Belle Abdallah, Heather and Vincent Clausi; two great grandchildren Mia Ivanowski and Joseph Abdallah. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Reposing at Simpson – Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. A prayer service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 AM by Fr. Frank J. Damis. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Margaret Whitney Hillegas
Kingston, NY
Margaret Whitney Hillegas of Washington Ave. died Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Kingston Hospital. She was 104.
She was born January 31, 1900 in Seneca Castle, a daughter of the late Frank E. and Clara Page Whitney.
She received her masters degree from Syracuse University and was a home economics teacher for the Solvay Union Free School District for 44 years, retiring in 1966.
She attended St. James Methodist Church.
Her great-great-great grandfather was Capt. Jonathan Whitney, a Revolutionary War hero during the battles at Ticonderoga.
Loving mother of Martha Pearson and her husband Ken, sister of Harriet Blanding Taylor and the late Maurice, Harold and Richard Whitney, grandmother of Kim Pearson and his wife Vickie, Laurel Riker and her husband Harry, Eric Pearson and his wife Elaine Zacharcznko, Hung Lee and his wife Manyu, great –grandmother of Julie M. Pearson, Scott M. Pearson, Gretchen E. Riker, Andrew T. Riker, Zachary E. Pearson, Becky W. Lee and aunt of Hal Blanding, Roger Whitney and Jean Whitney.
Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday from 2 – 5 pm. At 7:00 pm, funeral services will be conducted at St. James Methodist Church by Rev. Jeffrey Glassey. Burial will be Saturday in Whitney Cemetery, Seneca Castle, NY.

Melody Ann Donohue
Cottekill, NY
Melody Ann Donohue, of Coxing Rd., Cottekill died November 23, 2004 at her home. She was 54.
Melody was born in Blauvelt on March 29, 1950, a daughter of the late Arthur and Louise Ross. A 1968 graduate of Tapanzee High School she previously lived in Rockland County.
She married Steven Donohue on, August 26, 1984 and moved to this area. Melody was an account clerk for the Ulster County Health Department and volunteered as a Girl Scout leader.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three children, James of Kingston, Jason and Malorie, both at home; her brother in law William Donohue of Hurley and sister in law Nancy Donohue of High Falls; and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Reposing at Keyser & Hamilton Funeral Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 8:00 PM.

John "Jack" Ehre
Huguenot, N.Y.
John "Jack" Ehre ofHuguenot, N.Y. John "Jack" Ehre, a lifelong area resident, and retired Zone Sgt. for New York State Police in Fishkill and Town Justice for the Town of Deerpark for 32 years, died suddenly on Monday, November 22, 2004 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis. He was 79.
The son of the late John and Margaret Siebold Ehre, he was born March 18, 1925 in New York City.
He was a member and usher of The Drew United Methodist Church, Port Jervis; veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy; member of Roosa-Fleming VFW Post #161 in Port Jervis; member of Huguenot Fire Department; Port Jervis Lodge of Masons #328 F&AM; member of Mountain Top Hunting Club in Big Pond; Tri-State Rod & Gun Club of Port Jervis; and member of New York State Magistrates Association.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Burrows Ehre, at home; one son, Keith Ehre and his companion, Suzan Stinson, of Slate Hill; two daughters, Kathy Retallick of Matamoras, Pa., and Kelly Banta and her husband, Paul, of Sparrowbush; one brother, James Ehre and his wife, Lillian, of Port Jervis; four grandchildren, Morgan Ehre, Lauren and Anthony Retallick, and Tyler Banta; and three nieces. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Ehre.
Friends may call on Friday, November 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 27 at 11 a.m. at Drew United Methodist Church, Sussex St., Port Jervis. The Rev. Robert Cassidy will officiate.
Burial will be in Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville.

Katherine ‘Kay’ Molloy Key
Venice, FL
Katherine 'Kay' Molloy Key, 80, a resident since 1991, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004 in Venice.
Mrs. Key was a former telephone operator. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes in Venice, Fla. Kay was a past commander and life member of the American Legion Post #159 in Venice. She was a member of the VFW and the Loyal Order of Moose, as well as a member of the Elks and the South Venice Yacht Club. Mrs. Key served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Born in Poughkeepsie on May 23, 1924, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Alice Campion Molloy.
She married Richard Key, who predeceased her on June 3, 2004.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Key Hyland of Fairhaven, NJ; sister, Alice Marx Molloy Verrone of Manahawken, NJ, and Helen Molloy Freer of Hopewell Junction; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a son, Timothy Richard Key in 1971.
Calling hours are 3-7 p.m., Friday, November 26, 2004 at Parmele Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Avenue, Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:45 a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2004 at St. Mary's Church, 231 Church Street, Poughkeepsie.

William W. Lawrence
Poughkeepsie, NY
William Wallace Lawrence Jr., 80, of Poughkeepsie since 1952 and formerly of Plainfield, N.J., died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Mr. Lawrence was a systems engineer for IBM from 1950 to 1987, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church. He designed and built his own home. Mr. Lawrence served in the United States Army Air Corps form 1944 to 1946.
Born in Illion, NY, on Nov. 15, 1924, he was the son of the late William Wallace Lawrence Sr. and Helen DeLancey Hutches Lawrence.
On Aug. 2, 1952 in Albany, he married Marjorie Rappold. Mrs. Lawrence survives at home.
In addition to his wife, survivors include sons, David William Lawrence of Ithaca, James Scott Lawrence and wife, Carol of Ithaca, and Thomas William Lawrence of Aurora, Colo.; grandchildren, Katrina Lee Lawrence, Scott James Lawrence, Michelle Allen and husband, Lee; and great grandson, Daimon Allen.
There are no calling hours. Memorial services will be held at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 140 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction, with Rev. Taylor Holbrook officiating.
Private burial will be in New Hackensack Cemetery.

Patricia C. Upham
Poughkeepsie, NY
Patricia C. Upham, 77, a 25-year resident of Poughkeepsie, formerly of Chestnut Hill, Pa., died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Upon retirement from hospital administration, she was a care giver specializing in Alzheimers.
Through the 80's and 90's, she was a loyal volunteer and member of the Board of Friends of Locust Grove. She was an honorary member of the Dutchess Garden Study Club.
Born in Hartford, Conn., she was the daughter of Melvin and Helen Connor. She was the widow of Hayward Upham. Her daughter, Phoebe Upham, predeceased her.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Schoonmaker and grandchildren, Katherine and Allen Schoonmaker, and Thomas Walsh.
A gathering in her memory will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 28, at the home of Deborah Schoonmaker.

Sgt. Catalin D. Dima
White Lake, NY
Sgt. Catalin D. Dima of the 411th Engineer Brigade, US Army, died in the service of his country on Saturday, November 13, 2004 in Baghdad, Iraq. He was 36 years of age.
Sgt. Dima was born on June 13, 1968 to Ino and Christina Paduraru Dima in Calarasi, Roniania. In 1996 he left Romania and came to NY to begin a new life.
He married Florika Zgrda on August 6, 1997 while living in Brooklyn. In 1999, they moved to Sullivan County, not wanting to raise their children in the city.
Shortly after Sept. 11, 2001, Catalin entered the U.S. Army Reserves. He had a great love for his new country. He had served in the Romanian Army so he was familiar with military service. He was working as a truck driver for Central Pet Supply in New Jersey when he was mobilized with his Army Reserve Unit. In October 2004 he was promoted to Sergeant in recognition of his patriotism, valor and fidelity, as well as his demonstrated leadership potential and dedicated service. In October 2004 he was awarded US Citizenship. He was the holder of many Military Decorations including Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
Sgt. Dima was a hard working family man and a dedicated soldier who will be greatly missed by family, friends, fellow citizens and fellow soldiers.
Survivors include mother. Christina Dima of Romania; his loving wife, Florika Dima at home; 2 sons, Christian Dima and John Peter Dima at home; 1 daughter, Angela Maria Dima at home; a brother, Bogdan Dima of Romania and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Monday November 22, 2004 at the White Lake Reformed Presbyterian Church, RT 17 B White Lake from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
Funeral services will be held at White Lake Reformed Presbyterian Church on Tuesday November 23, 2004 with Fr. Dimitry Musta officiating.

Helen Sherman, 98, of Rhinebeck, NY, died Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck.
She and her late husband moved to Poughkeepsie from Jersey City, NJ in 1947. Mrs. Sherman moved to Rhinebeck in 1983.
Born September 1, 1906, in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Danyi.
She married Albert E. Sherman on August 29, 1925 in Jersey City, NJ. Mr. Sherman died on March 27, 1982.
She is survived by one son: Albert R. Sherman of Rhinebeck, a grandson and his wife, Kevin & Pam Sherman of Staatsburg, a grandson, Keith Sherman of W. Palm Beach, FL; and 2 great grandsons, Christopher and Victor Sherman of Staatsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM on Saturday, Nov. 20th, in the Chapel at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. Burial will be at Rhinebeck Cemetery.

Christian W. Benben

Christian W. Benben, a self-employed construction worker and a lifelong area resident of Newburgh and Marlboro, died November 15, 2004 at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY. He was 27.
The son of Peter M. Benben Jr. and Katherine Wiley, he was born November 30, 1976 in Poughkeepsie, NY.
He was the husband of Amy Elizabeth Denton. Christian and Amy were married one year ago on November 8, 2003 in Cold Springs, NY.
Christian was an avid sports person, having played high school baseball for Marlboro High School. He loved to hunt, snowboard, kayak and play softball.
Survivors include his wife Amy Elizabeth Denton-Benben at home; his father Peter M. Benben, Jr. of Newburgh; his mother Katherine Wiley of Marlboro; his grandfather Peter Benben of Newburgh; his grandmother, Mildred Denton of Marlboro and his grandfather, Richard Wiley of Marlboro; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rick and Stella Denton of Newburgh; his uncles Michael Wiley, Patrick Wiley, Shawn Wiley, and Brian Benben; his aunts Linda Borges, Suzan Kehr, Delores Wiley and Judy Wiley; his sister-in-law Rebecca Denton and her son Ryan of Newburgh and his brother-in-law Joshua Denton of Newburgh.
The funeral service will be private. Burial will take place in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Rte 9W, Marlboro, NY.

Michael "Fudd" Phillips
Newburgh, NY
Michael "Fudd" Phillips a Lifelong resident of Newburgh died on November 13, 2004. Born on September 7, 1961 in Newburgh to the late Eugene and Mary Anne Bruce Phillips.
Survivors include his loving brothers Mark and his wife Kari Phillips of Michigan, and Matthew Phillips of Wurtsboro, Loving Sisters Sharon DeGraw, and Karen and her husband Bruce Shaw of Tampa Florida, Loving nieces, Lindsey, Tara, Erin, Arianna, Ashley, Loving nephews Evan and Connor. He was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Mary Anne Phillips and a brother Eugene Phillips.
The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday and Wednesday November 16 & 17, 2004 from 4-8pm at Coloni Funeral Home 3001 Route 9W, New Windsor, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday November 18, 2004 at 10am at St. Francis Church Newburgh. Interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Newburgh.

George Nicolacopoulos
Formerly of Newburgh, NY
George Nicolacopoulos, affectionately known as “Mr. Nick”to thousands of Students worldwide, died on Sunday November 14, 2004.
The son of the late Petros Nicolacopoulos of Skoura, Greece and Mary Haloviak Nicolacopoulos, he was born in Newburgh on February 19, 1926.
He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943, and fought in the South Pacific during WWII. “Mr. Nick” had two passions in life- teaching and traveling. After his retirement in 1992 from Highland Falls High School where he taught for 34 years, he joined Bridges for education and taught summer school in such places as Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Ukraine.
He is predeceased in death by his wife of 26 years, Filomena Riccio Nicolacopoulos and his sister Estella Ebany. Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Nicolacopoulos and Mary Schneckenberger, two grandchildren, Alex and Nicole Schneckenberger, one sister, Ellen Isan and long time companion Mary Ann Helms.
He will be remembered forever and a day, till the walls shall crumble to ruin and moulder in dust away. George was a member of the Orange County Shrine Club of Middletown, the Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #0309 of Newburgh and #52 Highland Chapter, the Cyprus Shriners of Albany, the N.Y.S. Teachers Assoc. and the Newburgh Retired Teachers Assoc.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday November 18, 2004 at 11am at Coloni F.H. 3001 Rt. 9W New Windsor, NY. 12553. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday Nov. 17 from 3-5&7-9pm at the funeral home.

Mabel E. Moore
Red Hook, NY
Mabel E. Moore, 81, Red Hook and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, November 15th, 2004 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.
A lifelong homemaker and avid shopper, Mabel was born on August 29th, 1923, at her family home in Tivoli. She was the daughter of Phillip and Blanche (Smith) Dedrick.
Mabel married William F. Moore II on July 15, 1963 in Rhinebeck, NY.
Along with her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Darleen Myers of Elizaville, NY; and two sons; William Moore, III of Red Hook and Harold V. Moore, Jr. of Tivoli, NY.
One sister; Matilda “Tilly” Erickson of Rhinebeck, NY, and one brother; Phillip H. “Manny” Dedrick of Tivoli, NY, along with eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.
She was predeceased by a sister; Leona Philman and three brother’s; Victor, Jimmy & Frank Dedrick.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 PM on Thursday November 18th, at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook, NY.
Graveside services & interment will be held on Friday, November 19th at 10 AM at the Red Church Cemetery, Tivoli.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Thursday from 6-8 PM.

Rita R. Winter

Rita R. Winter, nee Loughran, of Palenville, died at Albany Medical Center on Saturday, November 13, 2004. She was 40 years old. Rita was born in Kingston, NY on May 11, 1964 the daughter of George and Ann Loughran.
She was employed as a registered nurse in the Center for Cancer and Blood disorders at Albany Medical Center. After many years as a home health care provider, Rita finally realized her dream and graduated with honors from Columbia Greene Community College with a degree in nursing. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Academic Honor Society and a member of the Fountain of Life Christian Church in Lake Katrine.
Rita was a devoted wife and mother, loyal friend and force to be reckoned with. She was a devout Christian who led many people to Jesus Christ. Rita was a vibrant spark in the lives of all she knew and always helped those in need.
Survivors include her parents, her loving husband, Harold F. Winter, her beloved children, Benjamin, Samuel and Megan of Pallenville, NY. A brother Raymond G. Loughran and sister-in-law Mary Jo Loughran of Bloomington, NY, and sister Ruthann Wakefield and brother-in-law Bruce G. Wakefield of Lyndonville, VT and her dearest friend Dawn Markel of Kingston, NY. Many nephews, nieces, cousins, colleagues and friends survive her. “We will miss you all of our lives”.
Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 12:00 noon by Elder Peter Scott. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Albany Medical Foundation Life Star Trauma, 43 new Scotland Avenue, Mail Code 119, Albany, NY 12208.
