Mr. Richard B. ‘Dick’ VanOrden, Jr. of Greenville Township, NY a retired stone mason with Percy Cortright Masonary, Franklin, NJ, died Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis after a short, but heroic battle with lung cancer. He was 68.
He was born February 28, 1936 in Hamburg, NJ the son of the late Richard B. and Florence Hunt VanOrden, Sr.
He was the widower of the late Rose Marie Martin VanOrden. He cared for Rose, the love of his life, through her long battle with emphysema.
Dick loved stock car racing and was a fixture in the stands of area tracks. He enjoyed hunting, horseshoes and beating everyone in a game of cards. He had so many friends and he loved spending time with all of them, but most of all, he loved to be with his family. He was a kind and strong man. Now he has crossed the finish line and he is going to Victory Lane, which to him was always Heaven.
Later in life Dick worked at Minisink Rubber Co., in Unionville, NY

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004 at 1:00 PM at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis.
Burial will be at Clove Cemetery, Sussex, NJ.

George William Winslow Jr.
Monroe, NY
George William Winslow Jr., 88, a lifetime musician and arranger, of 20 Cedar Trail, Monroe, NY passed into the Light on Monday, December 6, 2004, at Arden Hill Hospital, Goshen, NY. He was born on May 16, 1916, in Jamestown, NY to the late George William Winslow Sr. and Kittie Mae Wescott Winslow. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy DeLana Barnes Winslow, on July 3, 1993.
He was a life member of the Chicago, New York City, and local Musicians Union and besides having his own band in Chicago with the theme of “Smile Awhile”, he arranged and played with the Sammy Kaye Orchestra for more than 20 years, and also played with Ray Herbeck, Blue Steele, Sammy Watkins, Art Kassel, local musicians, and the Winslow III. He played piano, all saxophones, trumpet, clarinet, violin, guitar, and almost any musical instrument that was placed before him. He collaborated with songwriters and singers in special arrangements and performed for many functions entertaining with his wonderful music, voice, and some jokes. He played at the Office Supper Club in Newburgh, NY and Bodles Opera House in Chester, NY for many years.
He was a long-time member of the Monroe Methodist Church Choir. He was also a Life Scout.
He is survived by 4 children, 15 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. They are his first son, George William Winslow III, and his wife, the former Joan Gallehr of Walden, NY and their eight children: Virginia Winslow Hammer and husband Paul, of Clinton MD, and their two children; Patti Winslow Moreland and husband Arthur, of Prince Frederick, MD and their 3 children;George Winslow IV of Mechanicsville MD, Phillip Winslow of Hughesville, MD; Kathleen Winslow of Hughesville, MD; Anita Winslow Schommer and her husband and child, of Hallendale, Florida; Robert Winslow and wife of Richmond VA; and David Andrew Winslow and wife, of Denton Texas. His second-born son, Darryl Albert Winslow, and wife Arlene of Cornwall, NY have 3 children: Rebecca Melvin and husband Dan with their 3 children; Bradley Winslow and wife Reaksmey of Engelwood, NJ, and Carrie Baker and husband Jon of Uxbridge, MA. His third-born son, Bruce Russell Winslow and wife Anna of Monroe, NY and their two children Richard Winslow and wife, Janice, with 2 children of Jermyn, PA and Elizabeth McCarthy and husband Timothy of Auburn, MA. His daughter DeLana Lynn Winslow of Monroe, NY and her two children, Hans Peter Koppenhoefer of Scottsdale, AZ and Alicia Lynn Koppenhoefer of Raleigh NC.
Friends may call on Wednesday, December 8, at Smith, Seaman, & Quackenbush, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe, NY, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, at the Monroe Methodist Church, Maple Avenue, Monroe, NY, followed by the burial at Washingtonville Presbyterian Cemetery, Washingtonville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Monroe Methodist Church Choir/Music Fund, at Maple Avenue, Monroe, NY.

Ethel Thomson
Cornwall, NY
Ethel Thomson of Cornwall died on December 5, 2004 at Orange County Residential Health Care Facility. She was 77.
Born on July 30, 1927 to the late Theodore and Beatrice Schofield Lewis. Ethel was a retired Cafeteria Manager for the Cornwall Central School District retiring in 1996 with over 50 years of dedicated service.
She was also a Member of the Order of the Easter Star, The Pythian Sisters and the Highland Engine Company Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her loving brothers Robert and his wife Jean Lewis of Lebanon PA, and Donald and his wife Eileen of Gardner, NY, Brother In Laws, Joseph and his wife Rose Thomson of Mountainville, Thomas and his wife Patricia Thomson of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and George and his wife Beryl Thomson of Gulf Port Florida, She is also Survived by numerous nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Jack Thomson in 1992.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday December 10, 2004 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Coloni Funeral Home 3001 Route 9W New Windsor, NY. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday December 11, 2004 at 9:30am at the Funeral home. Interment to follow in Cemetery of the Highlands, Highland Mills, NY.

Ruth C. Bell

Mrs. Ruth C. Bell of Port Jervis, NY a lifetime resident of the area, died Friday, December 3, 2004 at St. Teresa´s Nursing Home, Middletown, NY. She was 98.
She was born May 1, 1906 in Port Jervis, NY the daughter of the late Harry and the late Rose McKeon Grant.
She was the widow of the late William H. Bell, Jr.; he died in Dec. 1963.
She was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church; also a member and past Regent of the Catholic Daughters of Americas, Court Madonna No. 117, Port Jervis.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 with a prayer at 10:15 Am at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 AM in St. Mary's R.C. Church.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis, NY.
Funeral arrangements are by the GRAY-PARKER FUNERAL HOME, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis.

Howard S. "Sid" Delanoy
Red Hook, NY
Howard S. “Sid” Delanoy, 81, of Red Hook, NY, died Friday, December 3, 2004 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.
Born August 8, 1923, in Hudson, NY, he was the son of the late Howard T. and Alice Delanoy Terhune. He attended Red Hook schools.
In 1940 Sid enlisted in the US Army and was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division. He took part in the “Torch” invasion of North Africa, and was taken prisoner in Tunisia. He was taken to Sicily where he managed to escape. He then joined the partisan forces fighting behind enemy lines.
Eventually he was able to re-join the US forces, and returned to the States. Sid was then assigned to the 250th Military Police Presidential Guards, a special detachment stationed at the White House to help guard President Roosevelt.
He later helped organize and served in the 156th Field Artillery Battalion of the NY National Guard in Poughkeepsie, and the 62nd Internal Security Battalion, Company E, 16th Special Forces in New York City.
Sid was a Life Member of the Red Hook Post #7765 VFW, where he organized the post honor guard in 1952, the Red Hook Fire Company, the Disabled American Veterans, and the American Ex-POW’s. He was also a member of the Harris Smith Post #524 American Legion and of St. Paul’s/Trinity Episcopal Church, both in Tivoli.
For 10 years he was Boy Scout Troop Leader in Upper Red Hook for a troop he helped to start, and from 1947 until 2002, each Christmas he was Santa Claus.
Sid married Zana Louise Allred on August 15, 1944 in Christ Church in Red Hook. Mrs. Delanoy survives at home.
In addition to his wife, his three daughters and their husbands survive him: Alice & Dale Bard, Sr. of Red Hook, Sydney Gail & George Swartz of Red Hook, and Bette & Jeff Miller of Elizaville. 7 Grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandson also survive him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Dec. 7th, at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook. The Rev. Leonard F. Neils of will officiate. Burial will be at St. John's Reformed Church Cemetery, Upper Red Hook.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM. The Fire Company will hold servcies at 7PM, the VFW at 7:30 PM, and the American Legion at 8PM.
Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Tivoli Rescue Squad, PO Box 486, Tivoli, NY 12583 or to Hospice Foundation, Inc., 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Alice Mabie
Red Hook, NY
Alice Mabie, 72, of Red Hook, NY, died Friday, December 3rd, 2004 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY.
For many year she worked at the dietary department for Northern Dutchess Hospital & the Thompson House in Rhinebeck, NY. She also worked Universal Match Company in Hudson.
Alice was an avid gardener.
Born on October 19th, 1932 in Rhinebeck, NY, she was the daughter of William N. and Evelyn (Rhynders) Coon.
Alice married Robert Mabie in 1951 at Christ Episcopal Church in Red Hook. Robert survives at home in Red Hook.
Along with her husband and her mother, Evelyn Coon of Germantown, she is survived by a daughter: Patricia Coons of Elizaville, NY, three sons: Robert, Richard, and Mark Mabie all of Elizaville, three sisters: Helen Daniels of Germantown, Shirley Scism of Red Hook, and Sandra Keeler of Millerton, two brothers: Elmer Coon of Bailey Harbor, Wisc. and Howard Coon of Germantown. A grandson, Todd Coon of Elizaville, and a granddaughter, Malissa Mabie of Saugerties, along with many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was predeceased by a sister, Marion Coon.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 8th, 2004 at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook, NY. The Rev. Bernice West of will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Tuesday, December 7th, 2004 from 7 - 9 PM.
Memorial donations may be made in Alice’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Mabel R. Rooney
Barrytown, NY
Mabel R. Rooney, 92, of Barrytown, NY, died Thursday, December 2nd at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY. A resident of Barrytown since 1963, Mabel had previously resided in Floral Park, NY
For many years she was a seamstress with the Goodyear Company and the Hazelton Company of Long Island. Some of the notable projects she worked on was the original Goodyear blimp and the original “ Popeye” balloon figure seen in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC.
Mabel serve in the United States Air Force WAC during World War II.
Born on December 17, 1911, in Cannon, WV, she was the daughter of the late James and Rosa A. Burnside.
Mabel married Francis J. Rooney on June 15, 1945 in Stout Field Army Base in Indiana and he predeceased her on February 11, 1991
Survived by one son: Christopher Rooney of Barrytown, NY; a sister, Rachel Lentz of Akron, OH; and a brother, James Burnside of Tuscan, AZ. Several grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Along with her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Ray Glen Johnson and seven brother's & sister's.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 7th, 2004 at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, NY.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Monday, December 6th, 2004 from 6-8 PM.
Memorial donations may be made in Mabel’s memory to the Red Hook Post #7765 Veterans of Foreign Wars, 30 Elizabeth St, Red Hook, NY 12571.
