Helen Baby, 84, of Birmingham, died June 7, 2002, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born Dec. 7, 1917, in Highland Park.
Mrs. Baby was a member of the Eastern Star.

Macon Trabue, II, 67, of Clarkston, formerly of Birmingham, died June 9, 2002, at Heartland Healthcare-Georgian Bloomfield in Bloomfield Township. He was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Mt. Clemens.
Mr. Trabue graduated from Michigan State University, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi fraternity. He was a captain in the U.S. Air Force. He was a real estate broker and owned a Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate franchise in Clarkston, Mill Stream Real Estate.
Mr. Trabue is survived by children, Susan E. Trabue of Studio City, Calif., and Macon Charles Trabue, III of Austin, Texas; and sisters, Sharon Depew of Moorhead, N.C., and Gaylen Croce of Evergreen, Colo.

JUDSON P. DECKER "JUD"
Judson Decker, 77, of Birmingham, died June 10, 2002, at home. He was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, where he saw combat in Italy with the 10th Mountain Infantry Division. Mr. Decker graduated from Princeton University where he was president of Orange Key, Chairman of the Undergraduate Council, on the Honor committee, co-director of the Princeton Summer Camp and manager of the Banner Agency. He and some other students invited Albert Einstein to an open discussion, which he accepted. Mr. Decker once worked for Life Magazine as a space salesman. He started an injection molding company, Bopp-Decker Plastics, Inc., making some of the first plastic food containers. When he retired, he was in commercial and industrial real estate.
He enjoyed reading and skiing and was an AA member for 26 years.
Mr. Decker is survived by wife, Jane; children, Todd P. of Los Angeles, Calif., Catherine A. (Gary) Humenny of Bloomfield Hills, Nancy E. of Boyne City, Susan M. (Patrick) Philbin of Beverly Hills; grandchildren, Ann, John, Diane, Lindsay, Doug, Hannah, Kelly and Elizabeth; great-granddaughter, Madeline; and brother, Morton (Ceil) of Lansing.

MADELEINE "BUNNY" WESTRATE
Madeleine Westrate, 84, of Birmingham, died December 28, 2001, in Montana. She was born April 5, 1917 in Chicago.
Mrs. Westrate graduated from Wayne State University and University of Michigan. She was a teacher at Greenfield Elementary for 20 years. She was a hospital volunteer, hotline telephone counselor and a Girl Scout leader.
Mrs. Westrate is survived by son, Tom of North Carolina and daughter, Wendy of Montana; grandchildren, Mark and Julie; great-grandson Sammer; and sisters, Leslie and Norma.
An afternoon tea in her honor will be held, Saturday, June 22, at the home of Betty Lourie in Birmingham.
EVERETT RICHARD HARRELL, M.D.
Everett Harrell, 80, of Ann Arbor, died June 9, 2002, at Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born April 5, 1922, in Checotah, Oklahoma.
Dr. Harrell graduated from Duke University Phi Betta Kappa and from Duke Medical School, Alpha Omega Alpha. He served his residency in dermatology at the University of Michigan. He served as a Medical Officer attached to the U.S. Marine Corps Fleet Marine Force in Tsingtao, China following World War II. Dr. Harrell served as a professor and chairman in the department of dermatology at U-M Medical Center; 50 year member of the American Medical Association and served in the AMA section of dermatology as assistant. secretary and chairman; membership committee-chairman of the American Dermatological Association; chairman and member of the American Board of Dermatology. He was on many medical committees and published in numerous medical journals and publications. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, an avid gardener and birder.
Dr. Harrell is survived by daughters, Katherine H. (Stephen R.) Branam, Carolyn L. (Michael) Harrell-Skibinski, Nancy H. Lindstrom; grandchildren, Lindsay A., Laura J. , Megan A., Tucker H., Taylor M., Ryan H., Benjamin W.; sisters, Amy Harrell-Hatch, Ruth (Charles) Adams, and Ann Saturday.

Alvira Evilsizer, 80, of Birmingham, died June 7, 2002, at home. She was born July 12, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wis.
Mrs. Evilsizer was a telephone operator at William Beaumont Hospital.

ROSEMAE SAIBEN CLARK
Rosemae Clark, 81, of Grosse Pointe, formerly of Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills, died May 19, 2002, at St. John's Hospital in Detroit. She was born June 19, 1920 in Akron, Ohio.
She graduated from Northwestern University and Wayne State University. During World War II, she volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood Bank and Blood Drive. She also worked with children afflicted with cerebral palsy. Mrs. Clark volunteered at Pontiac State Hospital working with emotionally disturbed children and was a docent at the DIA. She was an elementary teacher in Ohio and at The Liggett School in Detroit. After receiving her master's degree, she taught in the Troy school system, special education and second grade.
At Christ Church Cranbrook, Mrs. Clark was a docent and member of the Altar Guild. Her interests included, flower arranging, art, music, children's literature, cooking, entertaining and education.
Mrs. Clark is survived by daughters, Wendy Clark (Joseph) Jennings of Grosse Pointe and Trinkett Clark (Henry Nichols Blake Clark) of Shutesbury, Mass.; granddaughter, Charlotte Allegra Rice Clark; siblings, Gustav (Ann) Saiben of Norton, Ohio and Dorothee (Richard) Sanders of Copley, Ohio.

Elizabeth Laidlaw, 93, Birmingham, died June 12, 2002, at home. She was born February 7, 1909 in Detroit.
At 13, she was in a swim race across the Detroit River. She was a member of Birmingham-Bloomfield Art Center, Sculptors Guild of Michigan, Detroit Zoological Society, Cranbrook House and Garden Auxiliary and a patron of the Detroit Institute of Arts. Mrs. Laidlaw was an avid gardener, a sculptor and potter and reader. She traveled extensively.
She is survived by children, Duncan M. (Nancy) of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, W. Stuart of Birmingham, R. Bruce (Andi) of Ann Arbor and E. Alfred Peters, 70, of Beverly Hills, died June 15, 2002, in Wm. Beaumont Hospital of Royal Oak. He was born June 21, 1931 in Detroit.
Mr. Peters was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University, Wayne State University and University of Michigan. He was a former school administrator for Dearborn Public Schools, Birmingham Public Schools and Utica Public Schools. He was retired from Prudential Securities, Dean Witter & Merrill Lynch, where he was an investment broker and certified planner. Mr. Peters enjoyed ballroom dancing and senior softball.

Vincent Quinn, 87, of Beverly Hills, died June 14, 2002, at Wm. Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born May 1, 1915 in Detroit.

GORDON BARNES
Gordon Barnes, 72, of Birmingham, died June 16, 2002. He was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Detroit.
Mr. Barnes graduated from Northwestern University and the University of Wisconsin's Graduate School of Banking. He spent four years serving in the U.S. Army Intelligence during the Korean conflict. He was Chairman, CEO and sole owner of Heber, Fuger, Wendin, Inc.
Mr. Barnes was a member of Christ Church Cranbrook, where he served on the Vestry and in other capacities. He was director of Peoples State Bank; a member of the Bloomfield Open Hunt and Glen Lake Yacht Club. He and his family hosted an annual Toys for Tots party in support of the Marines Charity. He also was a world traveler.
Mr. Barnes is survived by wife, Margaret Joan; children, David (Heidi) and Diane (Mark) Williams; grandchildren, Emma, Colin, Margo, Glynis and Rhys.

ROBERT WALTER LOTZ
Robert Lotz, 81, of Birmingham, died June 20, 2002, at home. He was born Jan. 5, 1921 in Detroit.
Mr. Lotz had a master's degree in engineering. He was employed by Chrysler Corporation as an automotive engineer. He also worked for R. Hirt (produce/cheese) at the Eastern Market. He was a U.S. Navy veteran from World War II.
He was senior member and past president of Birmingham Men's Club. Mr. Lotz enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
He is survived by wife, Anne; children, Ande (Brian) Partlan and Wood (Lydia); grandchildren, Brooke, Eric, Ryan and Colin; and brother, Richard (Bernice).

PHYLLIS GODFREY CARTWRIGHT
Phyllis Cartwright, 87, of Farmington Hills, formerly from Birmingham, died June 21, 2002, in Farmington Hills. She was born May 12, 1915, in Lansing.
Mrs. Cartwright was active in the First United Methodist Church-Birmingham. In the 1960s she was a member of the Community House Board and also on the board for the League for the Handicap, which later joined with Goodwill. This organization served the people in Detroit with a workshop and training program. After serving on the Steering Committee, she became charter president of the Community House Senior Women's Club.
Mrs. Cartwright is survived by husband, Philip; children, Joan (John) Watkins and Ronald (Elizabeth); five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.

Elaine Hymans, 83, of Okemos, formerly of Birmingham, died June 21, 2002, in Troy. She was born in 1918 in Detroit.
Mrs. Hymans graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Monroe and, with honors, from Michigan State University. She was employed by the State Department of Social Services as supervisor of Recipient Services.
She was involved in Lansing in volunteer services, including the Lifeline Agency of Ingham county and with Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Previously, she performed service for Christ Child Society of Detroit, Catholic Social Services, Sarah Fisher Home for Unwed Mothers, and the Children's Hospital of Michigan. Mrs. Hymans was an avid reader, valued education and health and worked out three times a week at a fitness center.
She is survived by children, Hope Dempsey of Troy, Mary Riordan of Cincinatti and Stewart of New Mexico; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mary Basse, 80, of Beverly Hills, died June 21, 2002, in Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born February 8, 1922 in Detroit.
Mrs. Basse loved sewing and was active in the Questors and Beverly Hills Garden Club. She collected antiques and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed regular visits to the Detroit Zoo for the butterflies and polar bears.

John Hedrick, 95, of Waterford, formerly of Birmingham, died July 5, 2002, in Waterford.
Mr. Hedrick was successful in the printing business in Saginaw, where he served as the president of the Seemann & Peters Printing Co. until retirement in 1964.
He is survived by children, Barbara A. Bowman of Birmingham, James B. of Sylvan Lake and Alan (Dorie) Marshall of Orchard Lake; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Richard Kassabian, 38, of Birmingham, died July 2, 2002, in a motorcycle accident. He was born November 19, 1963 in Birmingham.
