Donnie Powell
Donnie Powell, 79, a lifelong resident of Texas, died in McKinney on
Wednesday, June 5, 2002. he was born to the late James Clarence and
Amanda Ella Rozelle Powell on Jan. 17,m 1923, in Aley, Texas,
Henderson County. He was a mechanic and owned Powell's Service Station
and Garage for more than 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army during
World War II. Mr. Powell was of the Baptist Faith. He was a member of
the Piedmont Baptist Church in Dallas.
Services were held at Tomlinson Funeral Home Chapel in Seven Points at
11:30 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2002, with Bro. Ron Huckabee officiating.
Burial will follow at Tool Cemetery, where the District 30 VFW Honor
Guard will provide military honors. Visitation was from 9 a.m. to 11
a.m. at the funeral home Monday, June 10, 2002. Memorials may be made
to the American Cancer Society in Mr. Powell's memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers.
Survivors include children, Diana Fisher of Frisco, James Larry Powell
of Carrollton, Randy Powell of Terrell; sisters, Thelma Snyder of
Mesquite, Jocie Johnson of Killeen; six grandchildren, Kevin, Shannon,
Matthew, Dianne, Kriten, and Cody; three great-grandchildren, Ryan,
Maddy, and Erin.
Arrangements were under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Seven Points.
Ruby Lorene Summers
Services for Ruby Lorene Summers, 80, of Tool were held at 2 p.m.
Sunday, June 8, 2002, at Corley Funeral Chapel with Dr. Irving Anthony
officiating. Interment
followed at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery in
Retreat, Texas, under the direction of Corley Funeral Home of
Corsicana.
Mrs. Summers died Friday, June 7, 2002, in Corsicana. She was born
Jan. 3, 1922, in Corsicana. She was a seamstress and a member of First
Baptist Church of Tool.
She was preceded in death by husband, Travis Summers, and daughter,
Barbara French.
Survivors include daughter and husband, Reba and Richard Archer of
Grand Prairie; son-in-law, Jack French of Weatherford; brother, Dewey
Scruggs of Corsicana; sisters, Pauline Slater of Corsicana, Maudina
Moore of Corsicana, Mary Wright of Dallas; six grandchildren, 17
great-grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Rusty French, Jamie French, Jerry French, Zane
Archer, Clint Archer, and Karen Archer Galloway.
Oscar David Tarno
Military graveside services for Oscar David Tarno, 55, of Garland were
held 10 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2002, at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas
with Mrs. Jeannie Ray officiating and under the direction of Eubank
Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mr. Tarno died Thursday, June 6, 2002, in Dallas. He was born April 4,
1947, in Canton. He was a heavy equipment operator and served in the
U.S. Army.
Survivors include wife, Susan Jo Tarno of Garland; parents, Byron
Tarno and Eva Nell (Cartright) Tarno of Mabank; son, John David Tarno
of Dallas; daughter, Stacy Ray Nall of Crandall; sister, Pam Hyde of
Mabank; brother, B.H. Tarno of Garland; grandchildren, Breanna Shay
Nall, McKayle Ray Nall, and David Ray Tarno.
Pallbearers were Don Smith, Mike Rhodes, Rylie Williams, Rodger
Woodard, Larry Bowen, and Mike Patterson.
B.W. Rea Jr.
B.W. Rea Jr. was born Dec. 29, 1932, in Kemp and passed away June 6,
2002, in Garland. Survived by wife, Nora Lee Rea of Garland; children,
Patricia L. Griffin and husband, David, Gail Grigsby, Terry W. Rea and
wife, Christina, all of Garland; grandchildren, Melody Boyer, Brandy
Anderson, Terry W. Rea, Jr. and wife, Krista, Shane Grigsby, Joshua W.
Rea, Randy Grigsby and wife, Brianna, Joseph D. Rea, Brian W. Rea;
great-grandchildren, Jacob B. Anderson, Justin R. Anderson, Ivan C.
Rea, Avery K. Rea, Heavenly Rea, Austin Grigsby; sisters, Opal Dosier,
Jesse Rigsby and Kathleen Hammond; niece, Shirley Hall. Services were
10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Restland Memorial Chapel. Interment
followed at Restland Memorial Park. Family received friends from
6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at Restland Funeral Home. Mr. Rea
was known for his generosity to his family and friends and to his
church. He dedicated his life to helping others and living his life
for Jesus. He was loved by all that knew him.
Sam E. Killian
Services for Sam E. Killian, 88, of Mabank were held 11 a.m. Tuesday,
June 11, 2002, in Eubank Memorial Chapel with Mr. Jerrell Gleaves
officiating. Interment
followed at Oaklawn Cemetery under the
direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mr. Killian died Saturday, June 8, 2002, in Mabank. He was born July
23, 1913, in Fort Payne, Ala., to the late Bailey Bruce Killian and
Ida Lucinda. Mr. Killian was a rancher.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jacie Killian; son,
Sammy Killian; grandson, Bryan Foster; brothers, Eugene and Hugh
Killian; and sisters, May Mills and Nanaly Johnson.
Survivors include daughters, Jan Donehoo of Forney, Linda Gleaves of
Mabank, Patricia Harris of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Vikki Lacy of Eagle
River, AK., Kathryn Vinson of Garland; son, David Killian of Mabank.
Pallbearers were Kyle Bailey, Robert Donehoo, Zachary Harris, Justin
Killian, Lacy Killian, and Jason Valentine.
Johnny Rene Hudson
Johnny Rene Hudson, 34, died in Athens following an automobile
accident in Payne Springs Friday, June 7, 2002. He was born June 22,
1967, in Athens. He worked for himself in many different businesses,
mainly in construction. He married Sendy Sue Thompson Oct. 11, 1997,
in Malakoff. He was of Christian faith, and was a big hunter and
fisherman. He was a lifelong resident of Henderson County.
Graveside funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at
Trinidad Cemetery in Trinidad at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Don R. Williams
officiating. Visitation was from 9 a.m. to noon also on Wednesday,
June 12, 2002.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Henry Edward Hudson and
Clyde and Florence Berry.
Survivors include wife, Sendy Hudson of Payne Springs; children,
Cassondra Rene Hudson of Payne Springs, Duan Iron Fist Hudson of Payne
Springs, Tiffany Maebelle Hudson of Payne Springs; mother and
stepfather, Virginia Ann and Ben Williams of Joshua, Texas; father and
stepmother, John Daniel and Brenda Hudson of Seven Points; brother and
sisters, Gloria Ann Williams of Seven Points, Laura Gail Barrils of
Burleson, Ronnie Allen Isom of Seven Points, Gloria Gail Hudson of
Seven Points; grandmother, Lorene Mae Hudson of Malakoff.

Clois 'Frog' Everitt
Services for Clois "Frog" Everitt, 91, of Mabank were held 10 a.m.
Wednesday, June 12, 2002, in Payne Springs Assembly of God Church with
the Rev. Mark Vaughan and the Rev. Charlie Woodard officiating.
Interment
followed at Payne Springs Cemetery under the direction of
Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mr. Everitt died Monday, June 10, 2002, in Mabank. He was born May 5,
1911, in Payne Springs. Mr. Everitt was a state employee, working on
the roads.
He was preceded in death by son, Clois Max Everitt; 12 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include wife, Ida Everitt of Mabank; nieces, nephews, other
family members and many friends.
Pallbearers were Darrell Everitt, Darrin Everitt, Forest Everitt,
Rodney Everitt, Travis Everitt, and Troy Taylor.
Irene Mangrum Hubbard
Irene Mangrum Hubbard died of heart failure on June 10, 2002, in
Corsicana. She was born Nov. 9, 1917, in Kerens to the late Eldridge
and Olivia Daniel Mangrum. She was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Malakoff. She was a housewife, and a member of the Order of
the Eastern Star of Malakoff. She has been a resident of the lake area
for 24 years, moving from Dallas.
Services were held at First Baptist Church of Malakoff Thursday, June
13, 2002, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Coleman officiating. Interment
followed at Samaria Cemetery. Glenn Chism, Ray Chancellor, Jon Oliver,
Joseph Oliver, Nantambu Kambon, and Fred Mangrum served as
pallbearers. Visitation was at the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Booker Sparks and Guy Hubbard;
parents, Eldridge and Olivia Mangrum; grandparents, Martha and Cannon
Daniel; sisters, Grace Gladys, Cannie, Cornelia and Maude; brothers,
Percy, Harry, Robert, Williard, and Claxton; granddaughter, Angela
McDonald.
Survivors include son, Jesse Tom Hubbard of Detroit, Mich.; daughters,
Wanda Olivia Roberts of Dallas, Patricia Diane Hubbard Chism and
husband, Glenn, of Duncanville; grandchildren, Jon, Joseph, and Aimee
Oliver, and Ray Lee Chancellor; great-grandchildren, Sidney Johnson
and Victoria McDonald.
Arrangements were under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff.
Olden 'Phil' K. Phillips
Funeral services for Olden "Phil" Phillips, 81, of Kemp were held at
10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home
in Kemp, with the Rev. Jim Renfro officiating. Interment
followed at
12:30 p.m. at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, under the direction
of Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home.
Mr. Phillips was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Poolville, Texas, to Lon and
Viola (Tyree) Phillips. He died Oct. 11, 2002, in Dallas. He married
Louise Hogue in Rockwall, on Feb. 4, 1959, and they lived in the Seven
Points-Kemp area since 1985. He owned and operated Oak Hill Bait and
Tackle Shop in Kleberg for many years. Mr. Phillips was a member of
the Calvary Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as
a Military Police officer.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Louise Phillips of Kemp;
daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Joseph Murphy of Waxahachie; son
and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Sylvia Wilson of Southlake;
grandchildren, Chris, Donnie, Ericka and Jennifer;
great-grandchildren, James and Brendan; and numerous other relatives
and friends.
Nelda Hill Stewart
Nelda Hill Stewart of Dallas passed away on Oct. 17, 2002. She was
born May 25, 1935, to the late Grady Willie and Juanita Marie Richman
Hill in Kaufman. Mrs. Stewart is surved by her children, Madonna
Kearney and her husband, Rick, Grady Stewart and his wife, Lisa, and
Lyn Stewart and his wife, Cyndra; grandchildren, Amber Prather,
Shannon Kemp, Grady, Cole, Brittany and Lee Stewart;
great-grandchildren, Mason and Konner Kemp, Harleigh and Addison
Prather; sister, Jackie MacLelland and husband, Chip; former husband,
James Stewart; one niece, two nephews and other relatives. Services
were held noon Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at First United Methodist Church
in Forney. Interment
will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Family will
receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday,
Oct. 20, at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Forney.
