Loryne Williams Serriere
Loryne Williams Serriere passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2003. Mrs.
Serriere was born in Konawa, Okla., July 31, 1913, to Dr. Jon T. and
Ethel Williams. She made her home with her daughter Ethel J. and
son-in-law Dwayne Hagin in Gun Barrel City. She was a member of First
Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City.
Although as a small child she lived in several small towns in
Oklahoma, Blackwell was the town where she grew up, married and raised
her family. Mrs. Serriere was a housewife and mother and helped her
husband farm from Oklahoma to Colorado and Kansas. She loved to cook
and can vegetables they had grown. She enjoyed fishing and liked to
crochet or hook rugs.
Mrs. Serriere is preceded in death by her husband James Ed Serriere,
mother and father, baby sister and beloved brother Dr. Jon T. Williams
Jr. She is survived by two daughters Ethel J. Hagin and son-in-law
Dwayne Hagin of Gun Barrel City and Carol Jean Thompson of Tulsa,
Okla. Also surviving is granddaughter, Arleen Garrison of New York;
great-grandsons, Ben and Matt Garrison of Tulsa, Okla.
Services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at Eubank Memorial
Chapel in Mabank with the Rev. Byron Jones officiating. Graveside
services were 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Blackwell Cemetery,
Blackwell, Okla., with the Rev. Rick Longcrier officiating. Memorial
contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 137 E Bar-H Dr.,
Gun Barrel City for the new family life center.
James Larry Jones Sr.
Services for James Larry Jones Sr., 50, of Mabank were held 3 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at First Assembly of God Church with the Rev.
James Howard officiating. Interment
followed at Cedar Creek Memorial
Park under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mr. Jones died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, in Shreveport, La. He was born
July 8, 1952, in Dallas. He was a master electrician.
Survivors include wife, Brenda Jones of Mabank; father, Alfred Jones
of Mabank; daughters, Shelly Gray of Mabank, Shannon Ingle of
McKinney; son, James Larry Jones Jr. of Keller; brothers, Gary Glenn
Jones of Mesquite, Terry Lynn Jones of Mabank; eight grandchildren.
Pat Patterson
Graveside services for Pat Patterson, 67, of Kemp were held 2 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Baker Cemetery in Tolosa with Bro. D.L.
Pendleton of the Seven Points Baptist Church.
Mr. Patterson died Feb. 29, 2003, in Seven Points. He was born Jan. 3,
1936, in Ralston, Okla. He was a truck driver, and served in the U.S.
Army for seven years.
He was preceded in death by parents, Leo Patterson and Florence Hobson
Patterson; and sister, Polly Ellis.
Survivors include sons, Kenneth and Gwen Wright of Seven Points, Jay
and Sharon Wright of Kemp; daughter, Leslee and David Lay of
Duncanville; brother, Merle Patterson of Shawnee, Okla.; eight
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at the
funeral home.
Nancy Ann Glenn
Services of remembrance were held for Nancy Ann Glenn, 46, of Seven
Points at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp with the Rev.
Bob Parry officiating. Interment
followed at Ware Cemetery in Kaufman
County.
Mrs. Glenn was born in Dallas, Sept. 4, 1956, to O.D. and Billie Jean
(Richards) Payne, and died in Dallas Feb. 19, 2003. She married Ed
Glenn in Waco on Dec. 21, 1991. They had lived in Seven Points the
past six years. She was a registered nurse with Visiting Nurse
Association Homecare and was a member of Cedar Creek Bible Church. Her
mother, Billie Jean Payne, preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 2000 and
a brother, Billy Payne on May 28, 2001.
Survivors include her husband, Ed Glenn of Seven Points; daughter,
Sarah Glenn of Seven Points; son, Chandler Glenn of Seven Points;
father, O. D. Payne of Seven Points; brother, Bobby Payne of Dallas;
sisters, Kay Mayor and Jan Harrison, both of Farmers Branch;
mother-in-law, Corene Glenn of Waco; and numerous other relatives and
friends.
Winifred Ann Poyner
Graveside services for Winifred Ann Poyner, 67, of Arlington were at 3
p.m., Sunday, April 13, 2003 at King Cemetery in Aley with Brother
Troy Ambein officiating. Interment
followed under the direction of
Tomlinson Funeral Home of Seven Points.
Ms. Poyner died Thursday, April 10, 2003 in Arlington. She was born
September 29, 1935 in Palestine. Ms. Poyner was a member of Church of
Christ in Trinidad. She was a registered nurse for 16 years. Ms.
Poyner was a member of Lake Area Kiwanis Club and served on Snyder
City city council. She taught nursing at Snyder Community College for
16 years.
Survivors include her brothers, Richard Poyner of Arlington and Joe
Poyner of Garland; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Visitiation was from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, April 12, 2003 at
Tomlinson Funeral Home.
Daniel Manuel DeHart
Services for Daniel Manuel DeHart, 77, of Don's Port, Tool were at 2
p.m., Monday, April 14, 2003 at Friendship Baptist Church of Seven
Points with Brother Billy Hatcher officiating. Interment
followed at
Trinidad City Cemetery under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home
of Seven Points.
Mr. DeHart died Friday, April 11, 2003 in Athens. He was born March
23, 1926 in Baxter, Henderson County. He was a heat treater in
aviation manufacturing. Mr. DeHart was a member of Friendship Baptist
Church in Seven Points.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy DeHart of Tool; daughter, Rolinda
Ethier and husband Randy of Arlington; brother, Jake DeHart of Wills
Point; sisters, Alpha Nelson of Lewisville and Opal Clendenning of
Hedley; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation was from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the funeral home.
Janie Glenn Melton
Janie Glenn Melton, 65, of Gun Barrel City went home to be with her
Lord on April 5, 2003. Services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at
Eubank Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Interment
followed at Kemp Cemetery. Mrs. Melton was born Feb. 6, 1938, in
Kaufman County to Horace and Jewel (Williamson) Glenn. She was a
member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Athens.
Suvivors include her husband of 47 years, Claudis (Claude) Melton of
Gun Barrel City; daughter, Dr. Terri L. Melton of Cape Coral, Fla.;
sisters, Geneva Trull of Kemp, Lillian Cotton of Des Moines, Iowa,
Reubine Mayfield of Kaufman, and Nan Lane of Kaufman; nieces, nephews,
other family members and many friends.
Donna Teague
Memorial services for Donna Teague, 67, of Kemp were held 2 p.m.
Monday, April 14, 2003, at Eubank Memorial Chapel with the Rev.
Kenneth Hensley officiating and under the direction of Eubank Cedar
Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mrs. Teague died Friday, April 11, 2003, in Tyler. She was born May 7,
1935, in Wapanuka, Okla. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include husband, Kenneth Teague of Kemp; sons, Clifford and
Karla Nail of Oklahoma City, Okla., Robert and Milta Nail of Sachie,
Texas; daughter, Paula and Leroy Woods of Yuma, Ariz.; seven
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Katherine Lou 'Kittie' Green
Katherine Lou "Kittie" Green, 73, of Mabank passed away April 11,
2003, in Tyler after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. She was
a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed by family and
friends. Memorial services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16,
2003, at Eubank Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Glen Blackmon
officiating. Mrs. Green was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio, to
William Alva and Iva Lucille (Rackstraw) Wagenhauser. Mrs. Green and
her husband, Byron, owned and operated the Scooters/Wheelchairs Too in
Gun Barrel City. She was a member of the Preston Hollow Presbyterian
Church of Dallas. Survivors include her husband, Byron Green Sr. of
Gun Barrel City; son, Kevin Lowe and wife, Tammy of Colleyville;
daughters, Kelli Brooks and husband, Bill and Lisa Lowe both of
Colleyville; step-daughter, Beverly Jayne and husband of Shendandoah;
step-sons, Benny Green and Byron Green Jr. both of Gun Barrel City;
brother, Glen Wagenhauser of Gun Barrel City; 15 grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family members and a
host of friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Webster (Sonny)
Lowe in 1995.
Carrol Gunnels
Carrol Gunnels, 86, of Trinidad died in Athens on April 9, 2003. She
was born June 20, 1913, in Brownsboro to Samuel and Lenny Rogers
Carroll, both deceased. Services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12,
2003, at the Lakeside Baptist Church with brothers Floyd Loven, Frank
Upchurch, and Ron Huckabee officiating. Burial followed in Mankin
Cemetery.
Survivors include sons and wives, Gene and Goldie Gunnels of Malakoff,
J.W. and Nell Gunnels of Trinidad, Bob and Wanda Gunnels of Kemp, Roy
and Stacy Gunnels of College Station, Rick and Pan Gunnels of
Magnolia, Texas; daughters and husbands, Marcie and John Payne of
Seven Points, Barbara and Clyde Tyre of Vivian, La., H. Joy and Ken
Stone of Lake Fork, Irma Nicholas of Mesquite, and Carol and Short
Tressell of Athens; 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, nine
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister, and spouse,
Barney Gene Gunnels in 1988.
Pallbearers were Keith Tyler, Mobby Gunnels, Billy Pippen, Mark
Tinley, Todd Gunnels, Joey Snowden, Louie Carroll, and Billy Gunnels.
Honorary pallbearers were grandsons, great-grandchildren and nephews.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lakeside Baptist Church on Friday.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She
lived her life for others, her philosophy for life, and she taught her
children to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. She was
loved by everyone who knew her and will be missed. She was a homemaker
and also worked for Texas Power and Light as well as a seamstress for
many years at the Corsicana Hat Factory.
Edward 'Don' Steelman
Graveside memorial services for Edward "Don" Steelman, 69, of Dodd
City, were held 1 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Hopewell Cemetery
with the Rev. Terry Orr officiating.
Mr. Steelman was born in Dallas on Dec. 15, 1933, to Audie V. and
Pauline Landtrip Steelman and passed away April 5, 2003, in Dodd City.
He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Steelman was a resident of the Cedar Creek Lake area near Kemp for
many years and owned several businesses including Custom Fireplaces
and The Garden Center Nursery in Seven Points.
He is survived by daughters, Donna St. Mary of Ill., Rhonda Robisbeaux
of Irving, Sandra Windham and husband Scott of Florida, Kim Wolff and
husband Joerg of Dodd City; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild;
numerous cousins and a host of friends.
He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
