Jacquelynne Delores 'Jackie' Neal Surles
Jacquelynne Delores "Jackie" Neal Surles of Houston died Nov. 19. She
was born in Dallas on March 4, 1932 to the parents of Jack E.
Neal/Neel and Amy Lois Neal/Neel Elkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doyle Lamar "Jack"
Surles; son, Michael Leonard Surles; daughter, Melodie Ann Surles
Land.
She attended Rheinhardt, J.L. Long and Crozier Tech schools in Dallas.
She is survived by twin sons, David and Donnie Surles;
daughter-in-law, Janet; two sisters, Joyce Neal Roy of Waco and Joan
Adcock and husband Windol of Payne Springs; brother-in-law and wife
Jim Bob and Ann Surles; nephews Tony and Tim Surles, Bill and Don Roy,
Corky, John and Robert Hernandez; nieces Micaha; Jamie, Brenda,
Tricia, Susan and Carolynne Hernandez Rhys; grandsons, Jimbo,
Christopher, Nicholas Land, Justin, Brandon, Derrick and Jon Surles;
granddaughters, Jennifer Surles and Delaney and husband Johnathan;
four great-granddaughters and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Surles and her family held dear many fond years of time spent in
this area. One trip often discussed was fishing in Cedar Creek, even
before the time of Cedar Creek Lake.
Pamela M. Pasquinelli
Pamela M. Pasquinelli, 59, of Kemp, died Nov. 30, 2003 in Dallas.
Memorial services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003 at Lover
Lane United Methodist Church of Dallas with Dr. Dudley Dancer and Rev.
Stephen Cotten officiating.
She was born June 10, 1944 in Halifax Yorkshire, England. Survivors
include husband, David Pasquinelli of Kemp; two sons, Phil and wife,
Kim of Vancouver, Wash., and Brian and wife, Brandi of Kaufman;
daughter, Stephanie and husband Tim Waddill of Irving; parents, George
and Margaret Townsend of Dallas; brother, Russell Townsend of Dallas;
sister, Ginny Townsend of Garland; one nephew; grandchildren, Matthew
and Brittany Hicks, Nicholas and Rebakah Pasquinelli; other family
members and many friends.
Leoda Benfer Blalack
Services for Leoda Benfer Blalack, 90, of Hillsboro, Texas, were held
at 1 p.m. on Dec. 3, 2003 at the Eubank Memorial Chapel. Interment
followed in Payne Springs Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar
Creek Funeral Home.
Ms. Blalack was born July 20, 1913 in Rusk, Texas and died Saturday,
Nov. 29, 2003 in Athens. She lived in Payne Springs for 15 years,
Walnut Springs for 14 years, Irving for 14 years and Ft. Worth for 14
years. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include son, Ed Blalack of Arlington; daughters and
son-in-law, Dorothy Moad of Hurst and Doris and Robert Payton of Kemp;
brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Louise Benfer of Lake Whitney
Texas; sister, Artelia McMurry of Mineral Wells, Texas; five
grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and four great great
grandchildren.
The family received friends on Dec. 2, 2003 from 6-8 p.m.
Brandon Wayne Downing
Services for Brandon Wayne Downing, 13, of Kemp, will be held 2 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003 at the Tomlinson Funeral Home, Seven Points
with Bro. Barry Boatwright officiating. Interment
will follow in Kemp
Cemetery under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Seven
Points. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 p.m.
Mr. Downing was born Oct. 6, 1990 in Dallas and died Monday, Dec. 1,
2003 in Kaufman. He was in Life Skills at Kemp ISD.
Survivors include parents, Ronnie Lee and Joyce Downing of Kemp;
brothers, Mitchell Brown of Payne Springs, Donny Brown of Mesquite,
Ronny Brown of Mesquite, Christopher Downing of Kemp, Stephen Downing
of Seven Points; grandmother, Lena Gall of Balch Springs; aunt, Janice
Roach of Kemp.
Honorary pallbearers were Tim Stanfield, Robert Rowan, Thomas Ross,
James Reagan, and T.J. Rhinehart.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Life
Skills, Kemp Independent School District.
Annie Vinsant
A memorial service for Annie Vinsant, 50, of Gun Barrel City has been
scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in
the Black Jack Community with James Dale, Sandy Wade and Pat Griffin
officiating under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of
Athens.
Mrs. Vinsant was born July 30, 1953 in Garland to the late Gerald B.
and Jo Ann Griffin May and died Dec. 2, 2003 at her residence.
She was a property manager for multi-family housing and had lived in
Gun Barrel City for the past 18 years.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Johnny Vinsant of Gun
Barrel City; daughters, Debra White and Shelly Cunningham of Copperas
Cove; brothers, Ronald May of Copeville and Larry May of Garland;
aunt, Bessie Hood of Black Jack; uncle, Thomas Griffin of Murchison;
cousins, David and Pat Griffin; grandchildren, Jamie Bird, JoAnn White
and Cheyann Stewart of Copperas Cove.
Troy Wood
Services for Troy Wood, 78, of Kemp, were held at 10 a.m. on Dec. 3,
2003 at the Eubank Memorial Chapel with Rev. Lovett officiating.
Interment
followed in Tool Cemetery under the direction of Eubank
Cedar Creek Funeral Home.
Mr. Wood was born June 12, 1925 in Tool and died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003
in Kemp. He was a life long resident of the Tool area and retired from
Central Freight Lines, Dallas in 1964.
He is survived by wife, Lena Wood of Kemp; sons, Troy Ferrel Wood of
Gun Barrel City, Terry Dean Wood of Dallas; step daughter, Connie
Daniel of Styx; step son, William Fitts of Kemp; sisters, Lola Dean
Manzell of Eustace, Evelene Vitosky of Duncanville; nieces, nephews,
seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and other family members
and many friends.

Betty 'Granny' Davis
Memorial services for Betty "Granny" Davis, 81, of Gun Barrel City,
were held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 3, 2003 at the Eubank Memorial Chapel with
the Rev. Ricky White officiating.
She was born Feb. 7, 1922 in Lamar County and died Sunday, Nov. 30,
2003 in Athens. She was a cook who lived in Gun Barrel City for over
30 years.
She is survived by sons, Don Fesperman of Gun Barrel City, Dewey
McSwain of Gun Barrel City; seven grandchildren, and 12 great
grandchildren.
Jeremy Don Brennan
Services of remembrance were held for Jeremy Don Brennan, 19, of Kemp,
at the Tolosa Baptist Church on Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at 2 p.m., with
the Rev. James Hughes officiating. Interment
followed at Baker
Cemetery in Kaufman County, under the direction of Anderson Clayton
Bros. Funeral Home of Kemp.
Mr. Brennan was born Jan. 8, 1984, in Dallas and died Nov. 24, 2003,
in Henderson County. He graduated from Mabank High School in 2002 and
was currently attending Trinity Valley Community College, where he was
studying for a degree in Fire Science. He was a member of the Tolosa
Baptist Church and was a very avid outdoor person, who loved hunting
and fishing.
Survivors include parents, Jerry Don and Lisa Brown of Kemp; sisters,
Angel Nicole Crossland and husband, Micah of Leonard, Texas and
Lindsey Michelle Brown of Kemp; grandparents, Ann and Carroll Brennan
of Crandall and Frank and Mable Brown of Kemp; nieces, Avery and
McKenzie Crossland of Leonard, Texas; uncles, Randy Smith, Ronnie
Brown, Mackie Brown, William Brown, Ricky Brown, and John Brown; and
numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Neil Smith, Jonathan Brown, Jared Dunn, Luke Bradley,
Shane Nesbitt, David Moon, Randy Gallagher and Jacob Renteria.
