HEAVENER, Okla. — Lena Shelton, 80, of Heavener, Okla. died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in Heavener. She was a Pentecostal and a retired nurse’s aide.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Dowden Funeral Home Chapel of Heavener with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Panama, Okla.
She is survived by seven daughters, Shirley Webb and Pricilla Harrison, both of Huntington, Rebecca Holt of Marlow, Okla., Ruth Carnell of Fremont, Calif., Dona Holland of Tulsa, Bea Heydenreich of Fort Smith and Martha Scott of Heavener; two sons, Carl of Heavener and Randy of Monroe, Okla.; two sisters, Hazel and Betty King, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; 27 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

POCOLA, Okla. — Jerome H. Poe, 83, of Pocola, Okla. died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in a local hospital. He was a retired salesman, a Baptist and a member of Good Sam Travel Club.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith with graveside service 2 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn Cemetery in Hayti, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Lee Lewis Poe; two daughters, Ramona Kouri of Fort Smith and Sandra Madewell of Tulsa; two sisters, Marcelle Rogers of Memphis, Tenn. and Joyce Schumer of Cuba, Mo.; two brothers, Ralph of Winchester, Va. and Jimmy of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren, Rebecca Hobbs, Cynthia Matlock, Melissa Richardson and Neil McBee; and eight great-grandchildren.
Rev. Morris Pipkin Sr.
POCOLA, Okla. — Rev. Morris Bruce Pipkin Sr., 80, of Pocola, Okla. died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a United Methodist minister, member of V.F.W. in Spiro and an Army veteran of World War II.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Pocola United Methodist Church of Pocola with burial at Macedonia Cemetery in Pocola under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Pipkin; four daughters, Betty Ann Walker of Monahans, Texas, Jean Elaine Henderson of Bokoshe, Okla., Nancy Clark of Heavener and Karen Schmid of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons, Morris Bruce Pipkin Jr. of Poteau and Jonathan Pipkin of Duncan, Okla.; one sister, Gladys Karl of Pocola; two brothers, Ralph Pipkins of Spiro and George Pipkins of Pocola; and 10 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Pipkins, Matthew, Cole and Wesley Pipkin, and Royce and Brian Walker.

POCOLA, Okla. — Billy Edward McClish, 54, of Pocola, Okla. died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in his home. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Union Baptist Church of Pocola with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.

Sam Ramey
Sam Ramey, 79, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, in a local hospital. He was a retired ship-yard machinist in Hunters Point, Calif., an Army veteran of World War II, a Purple Heart recipient, a staff sergeant, a D.A.V. life member, of the Christian Science faith and attended Faith United Methodist Church.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Faith United Methodist Church with burial of cremains at Barling Cemetery in Barling under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; two daughters, Sammie Elizabeth Kaiser of Stockton, Calif. and Lillian A. Silverstone of Fort Smith; one sister, Mary Helen Blaylock of Rabun Gap, Ga.; four grandchildren, Sam, Jon and Mary Beth Silverstone and Nicholas Kaiser; and one stepgrandchild, Robert Silverstone.

PLACENTIA, Calif. — Wilma Lackey, 89, of Placentia, Calif., formerly of Fort Smith, died Monday, March 29, 1999, in Placentia. She was affiliated with First Lutheran Church.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. today at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by one daughter, Charlene Worden of Placentia; two nieces, Wilma Harvey of Ventura, Calif. and Patti Menefee of Brandonburg, Ky.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

RUSSELLVILLE — Jessie Lee Foster, 91, of Russellville died Friday, March 26, 1999, in Clarksville. She was a Methodist, homemaker and the widow of Clyde Foster.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in Exxium Tabernacle CME Church in Russellville with burial at Reed Cemetery in Russellville under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by one daughter, Pearlene Odom of Hawthorne, Nev.; five granddaughters, Cecilia James of Russellville, Marilyn Austin and Faye Holmes of Fort Smith and Shirley Trowell and Toni McNell of Sparks, Nev.; and four grandsons, Cecil Foster Jr. of Russellville and Darrell Odom, Ray Odom and James Ruel Odom, all of Hawthorne, Nev.

J.C. Polk
J.C. Kenneth Polk, 67, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a Baptist and retired Captain of the Fort Smith Fire Department after 24 years of service.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Doris J. Polk; one son, Kenneth of Van Buren; three sisters, Lauren Salakar and Vera Jean Hutchins, both of Fort Smith and Charlette Johnson of Shady Point, Okla.; one uncle, Willis Goldsmith of Fort Smith; two grandchildren, Michael Polk and Carrie Wagnon, both of Van Buren.

Blanche “Sis” Galloway, 80, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, in a Fort Smith nursing home. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Aldersgate Sunday school class. She was the widow of Wayne B. Galloway and the former co-owner of Galloway Tire.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home, Roebuck Chapel, in Fort Smith. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Lucile Coleman of Jacksonville, Texas; a son, Dave Galloway of Fort Smith; and four grandchildren.

SPRINGDALE — Carrol David Chaney, 65, of Springdale died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, in a Springdale hospital. He was a Navy veteran and an insurance salesman.

Survivors include his mother; a daughter, Michelle Hoblitzell of Fort Smith; and three grandchildren.

TUCSON, Ariz. — Bate (Lane) Somphounout, 29, of Tucson, Ariz., died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, in Tucson. He was a Buddhist and worked for Imation Manfacturing Co.
Funeral will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. The body will be cremated.

Phongsy Vatthanatham, 64, of Fort Smith died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a meat cutter for Simmons Poultry and a Buddhist.

ALIX — Herbert Jones, 72, of Alix died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, in Clarksville. He was a truck driver, a carpenter and worked in law enforcement.

Fannie Greene
Fannie Greene of Fort Smith died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a member of Quinn Chapel AME Church, where she was a trustee, a member of the Women’s Missionary Society and vice president of Board II. She was a retired public school teacher, a member of the Retired Teachers’ Association, City Housing Assistance Board, Westark RSVP Advisory Council and the Home Extension Club. She was a volunteer with InterFaith Pre-School, a voting poll worker and a member of the Phyllis Wheatly Federated Club.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Quinn Chapel AME Church in Fort Smith. Burial will be at National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a son, John Nix Jr. of Greenville, Texas; four sisters, Sedalia Richardson of Inglewood, Calif., Mae Coleman of Los Angeles, Mabel Ward of Texarkana, Texas, and Callie Franklin of DeQueen; a brother, J.B. Cravens of DeQueen; three grandchildren, Benjamin Keith Nix and John Morgan Nix III, both of Tulsa, and Shannon David Nix of Greenville, Texas; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Doug, James and Theodore Dodson III, Almon Page, Garland Bray, Odis Pilgrim and Andre Sanders.

MOUNTAINBURG — Betty Prophet, 80, of Mountainburg died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a retired licensed practical nurse at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith and was the widow of Eugene L. Prophet.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren. Burial will be at National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Gail Jackson of Tacoma, Wash.; a son, Buddy Snodgrass of Waldron; two stepdaughters, Mary Moses and Carolyn Megar, both of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two stepsons, Charles Prophet of Mountainburg and John Prophet of Damon, Texas; a sister, Eileen Keplinger of Joseph, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Sister Michaella Hanggi
Sister Michaella Hanggi, 94, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at St. Scholastica Monastery. She was a registered nurse and made her profession of faith in Fort Smith on Aug. 24, 1926. She ministered at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Boonville, Mo., St. Anthony’s in Morrilton, St. Hildegarde’s in Clarksville and for St. Joseph’s Orphanage in North Little Rock for 35 years.
Vespers will be at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with burial in the Monastery Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by the sisters of her religious community; a sister, Genevieve Wilson of North Little Rock; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be the sisters of her religious community.

VENTURA, Calif. — Velma A. Langford, 93, of Ventura, Calif., died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

Leeora Bowlet, 93, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was a Presbyterian and the widow of Conway Bowlet.

S.B. Holley
FAYETTEVILLE — S.B. Holley, 89, of Fayetteville died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at a local hospital. He was born in Sallisaw and owned and operated IGA and Piggly Wiggly food stores in Fort Smith for 30 years. He owned Fabric City and co-owned Athletic World Advertising, both in Fayetteville. He was a member of Fort Smith First Methodist Church and was the widower of Vernal Holley.
Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
He is survived by two daughters, Sue Ogden and Donna Trumbo, both of Fayetteville; four grandsons, Brick Ogden, Gregg Ogden and Clark Ogden and Sean Trumbo, all of Fayetteville; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
