Walbert Saffell
Walbert Dale Saffell, 79, of Saffell, Ark. died April 9, 2001, at his home following a short illness.
Born May 21, 1921, in Saffell he was the son of Cecil and Susie Parr Saffell. He was a lifelong resident of Saffell and was a World War II veteran who served in the 91st Infantry. He was a retired farmer and timber worker. He also was a member of the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Strawberry.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Mae Mize Saffell; two daughters ­ Nyoka Vaulner of Jonesboro and Peggy Sullivan of Strawberry; a brother, Talmadge Saffell of Jonesboro; two sisters ­ Fern Glasco of Strawberry and Madeline Stinett of Little Rock; four grandchildren ­ Cindy Vaulner of Saffell, Carla Crouch of Strawberry; Paul Vaulner of Saffell and Richard Sullivan of Walnut Ridge; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and an infant son.
The funeral was April 12 at Qualls Funeral Home Chapel with Harold Boyd and Remil Layton officiating. Burial followed in Godwin Cemetery at Saffell.

Janet M. Weiand
Janet M. Weiand, 63, of Cherokee Village died Dec. 14, 2000, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
Born Aug. 29, 1937, in Cincinnati, she was the daughter of Joan Berning Crusie and Clifford Crusie. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cherokee Village and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Weiand; four sons - Kenny Weiand of Ozark Acres, Kent Weiand of Cherokee Village, Kurt Weiand of Jonesboro, and Tony Weiand of Ash Flat; three daughters ­ Evette Hightower of Cherokee Village, Lynette Masner of Memphis and Janette Melaram of Barnwell, S. C.; two sisters - Betty Koch and Phyllis Smith both of Cincinnati; and 14 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral was Dec. 23 at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father James Mancini officiating. Burial followed at St. Michael's Columbarium.
Memorials may be made to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.

Jackson Whitmire
Jackson B. Whitmire, 80, of Cave City died Dec. 18, 2000, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
Born Jan. 2, 1920, at Strawberry, he was the son of James and Myra Berry Whitmire. He was a retired welder for White Sun-Strand Company of Rockford, Ill., and was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include his wife, Norma J. Whitmire; three sons and daughters-in-law ­ Ricky Dale and Trudy Whitmire of Hudson, Wisc., Robert Berry and Carolyn Whitmire of Rockford, Renwick and Dorothy Whitmire of Stillman Valley, Ill.; two daughters and sons-in-law ­ Peggy Ann and James Shull of Rockford; Jacqueline and William Opsahl of Matlacha, Fla.; two stepsons and daughter-in-law ­ Ronnie Preston of Paragould and Darron and Joyce Preston of Calico Rock; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Ima Jean and Bobby Hutchins of Cave City; a sister, Helen Sue Hamm of Imboden; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 23 step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Zennia Armstrong Whitmire; three brothers ­ Brooks Whitmire, Jimmy Rex Whitmire and Don Whitmire; and a sister, Clara Jean Whitmire.
The funeral was Dec. 22 at Sunset Funeral Home in Rockford, with Don Truitt officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Rick Whitmire, Robert Whitmire, Renwick Whitmire, Jim Shull, William Opshal and Jack Whitmire.

Agnes Ann Bounds
Agnes Ann Bounds, 76, of Cherokee Village died Sept. 25, 2002, in Mesa, Ariz., from complications of cancer.
She was born May 16, 1926, in St. Paul, Minn.
Survivors are her husband, Sidney, of 60 years; a son, Bill (Julie); a daughter Sandra Calliham (Richard); daughter-in-law, Sandie; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Her youngest son, Ronald, preceded her in death May 31, 2002.
A graveside service was Oct. 2 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota.
Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society or Hospice of the Valley in Arizona.

Joseph Delaney
Joseph Delaney, 87, died Feb. 18, 2002 in Palm Desert, Calif.
Born in Marcus, Iowa, he became the third generation to own Delaney’s Grocery & General Store. At the start of World War II he went to Chicago, Ill., to join the war effort, working at Amphenol Borg Electronics which later became Essex International.
While at Amphenol he designed several machines and created processes that simplified methods used in plastic extrusion which are still being used today. He retired as plant manager at Essex in 1979 and moved to Cherokee Village, where he and his wife were active in the Cherokee Squares until they moved in 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherylle of Palm Desert, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Tommy Ingram of Nashville; two sisters-in-law, Clara Alesch of Marcus, Iowa, and Evie Alesch of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren, Erin May and Adam (Dawn) Cash of Mount Juliet, Calif., Allen (Sandie) Cash of Benson, Ariz.; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Alesch Delaney; and seven brothers and sisters.
A memorial Mass was Feb. 25 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Steven Klasek officiating. Burial followed in Mount Juliet. Memorial Gardens.
Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Rose Mortuary of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.

Aenon Anderson
Aenon Anderson, 88, of Cave City died April 1, 2002, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born Aug. 31, 1913, at Strawberry, she was the daughter of Israel W. and Minnie Belle Milligan. She was a homemaker and a member of Milligan Campground Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Strawberry.
Survivors include her husband, Leslie Anderson of the home; a son, James A. Anderson of Imboden; a sister, Pearl Williams of Tuckerman; four grandchildren – James Allen Anderson of Smithville, Paula Kay Hoggard and Michael Anderson, both of Strawberry, and Randall Ray Anderson of Newark; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Leona Mullins Milligan; four brothers – Joe Keith Harp, Winslow Milligan, Paul Milligan and Billy Jo Milligan; and six sisters – Jeannie Mae Carter, Pauline Anderson, Ruthel Shaver, Maxie Browning, Elmer Crouch and Helen Sawyer.
The funeral was April 4 at Milligan Campground Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Alan Meinzer and Grayden Milligan officiating. Burial followed in Milligan Campground Cemetery at Strawberry.
Pallbearers were Van D. Sawyer, George Carter, Gary Anderson, Johnny Wayne Carter, Donald Anderson, Ronald Gene Ring, Tommy Williams and Tommy Milligan.
Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons.
Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Emma Anderson
Emma Sisk Wilson Anderson, 94, of Batesville died March 19, 2002, at Batesville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Batesville.
Born March 8, 1908, at Big Flat, she was the daughter of Melton Price and Matilda Treat Sisk. She was the granddaughter of Steven Treat and Arthur Rankin Sisk, early settlers of Stone County.
She was a homemaker and attended First Assembly of God Church in Batesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Carrie Wilson; and her second husband, Alfus Anders; three sons – Arthur Wilson, Minor Wilson and Leonard Wilson; two daughters – Bertha Mae Wilson and Mary Wilson; three brothers – Rankin Sisk, Steve Sisk and Flippin Sisk; five sisters – Mary Branscum, Rosebelle Jones, Beccann Viann, Sarah Freeman and Rachel Wallace; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law – W.C. and Linda Wilson of Batesville, and Willard Wilson of Cave City; three daughters and sons-in-law, Geneva and Kermit Riggs of Cave City, Betty and Henry Farris of Cave City, and Pat and Aubrey Brown of Batesville; 29 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was March 21 at First Assembly of God Church at Batesville with Vernon Bradshaw, Terry Davis and Wally Varner officiating. Burial followed in Egner Cemetery at Allen Chapel.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Riggs, Shane Wilson, Steve Wilson, W.C. Coleman, Scott Brown and Michael Riggs.
Honorary pallbearers were all other grandsons, H.J. Woodard, Robert Derr and Keith Deloach.
Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Batesville Funeral Service.

Mimi Aldrich
Mimi Reeb Aldrich, 81, formerly of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Cherokee Village, died April 27, 2002, at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Whitewater, Wis.
Born Dec. 30, 1920, in Northbrook, Ill., she was the daughter of Louis and Regina Siffert Reeb. She married Phil Aldrich. She taught in the Arlington Heights school district for over 30 years.
Survivors include a sister, Eleanor Jensen of Aiken, S.C.; two brothers – Len Reeb of Woodstock, Ill., and Kenneth Reeb of Chapel Hills, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters – Theodora Millar and Anna Fox; and a brother, Lou Reeb.
The funeral was April 29 at Toynton’s Walworth Funeral Home in Walworth, Wis. Burial followed in Ridgewood Cemetery in Northbrook.
Arrangements were under the direction of Toynton’s Funeral Home of Walworth.

Mildred Anderson
Mildred Ruth Anderson, 96, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Cherokee Village, died March 6, 2002.
Born June 3, 1905, at Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Carl August and Hulda Sophia Rose Anderson. On July 7, 1934, she married Richard C. Anderson at Burlington. She was a retired teacher, a graduate of Augustana College of Rock Island, Ill., and a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield.
Survivors include two daughters – Joyce Wise of Springfield, and Shirley Tranquil of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a brother, Chester W. Anderson of Peoria, Ariz.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; and two sisters.
A memorial service was March 8 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cherokee Village. A family memorial and celebration of her life will follow in June in Springfield with a gathering of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Martha Lou Askue
Martha Lou Askue, 79, of Cave City, died Feb. 18, 2002, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born June 15, 1922, at Center Ridge, she was the daughter of William Charles and Rachel Marie Frazier Cole. She was a homemaker and a member of Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church of Huffman.
Survivors include five sons – William Thomas Askue of Cave City, Danny Lee Askue, Otis Gene Askue and Bobby Glenn Askue, all of Blytheville, and Ernest Earl Askue of Leachville; three daughters – Mary Lynn Holder of Burleson, Texas, Margaret Ann Scrivner of Evening Shade, and Gena Lynn Watts of Blytheville; six brothers – Johnny Cole of Hot Springs, Robert Cole of Prescott, Eldon Cole of Blytheville, Bud Cole, Weldon Cole and Larry Simpson, all of Hope; two sisters – Minnie Phillips of Center Ridge and Ola May Davis of Hope; 31 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Ernest Askue; two sons, – William Charles Askue and Alvin Ray Askue; and a brother, Lloyd Cole.
The funeral was Feb. 21 at Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Rick Brothers officiating. A graveside service and burial followed at Grandview Cemetery in Center Ridge.
Pallbearers were Nickie Askue, Joe Askue, Jeff Askue, Michael Askue, Johnny Askue, James Scrivner, Wesley Scrivner and Jason Haynes.
Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Betty Aul
Betty Jean Aul, 67, of Mammoth Spring died April 29, 2002, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Mo.
She was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Katanning, Pa.
Survivors include a son, Donald Aul, and his wife, Mary, of Cherokee Village; a daughter, Elsa Reed and her fiancee, Jason St. Dennis, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; an adopted daughter, Torill Rosvoll of Norway; eight grandchildren – April Haney and her fiancee, Anthony, Brad Haney, Shawn Aul, Maria May, Kristina May, Ashley Aul, Rebecca May and Casey Aul; a sister, Donna Shaub of Wisconsin; and her fiancee, Floyd Welch of Glencoe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Margaret Bays-Bodenhorn, and her husband, James Aul.
The funeral was May 2 at Methodist Church in Mammoth Spring.
Arrangements were under the direction of Clary Funeral Home of Mammoth Spring.

Betty Arwood
Betty Lou Arwood, 72, of Cherokee Village, formerly of Memphis, died Aug. 27, 2002, at her home.
Born Nov. 5, 1929, in Memphis, she was the daughter of Dewey Shelton and Clarice Pearrow Lamb. She was a homemaker and a member of Holmes Road Church of Christ in Memphis.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Donald C. “Ducky” Arwood of Cherokee Village; a son, Richard B. “Dickie” Arwood of Collierville, Tenn.; a
daughter, Penny McKinney-Smith of Memphis; two brothers – Dewey Lee Shelton of Proctor, and Jimmy Shelton of Nesbit, Miss; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Aug. 31 at Forest Hill South Funeral Home in Memphis. Burial followed in Forest Hill South Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Heath Oak Hill Chapel of Hardy.

Bernice Baker
Bernice Robins Baker, 90, died in Kennett, Mo.
Born May 16, 1912, in Ash Flat, she was married to Harold Baker at Mammoth Spring. He preceded her in death in 1964.
Survivors include two brothers – Noble and Harvey; a sister, Theda Miller of Rector; and four nephews.
The funeral was held at the Church of Christ in Rector. Burial followed at Wiles Cemetery at Ash Flat.
Arrangements were under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.
