Wanda Faulkenberry
Wanda Sue York Faulkenberry, 56, of Cherokee Village died Aug. 6, 2002, at her residence. She was born May 11, 1946, in Osceola, Ark., the daughter of Robert and Mary Richards Dunkin. She worked as a production worker in a factory for several years.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Dunkin of Bay, Ark.; one brother, James Dunkin of Alabama; and one sister, Wilma Moss also of Bay.
Memorial services were Aug. 13 at Tri-County’s Cherokee Chapel in Highland. Tom O’Neal from the Ward Street Church of Christ officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of the Tri-County’s Cherokee Chapel of Highland.

Faye Spurlock Oyler
Faye Spurlock Oyler, 89, of Bay died Aug. 22, 2002, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born in Hardy, she lived most of her life in Bay. She was a homemaker and a member of Bay Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, LaFon Oyler Aker of Brookhaven, Miss.; a son, Glenn Oyler of Jonesboro; two grandchildren – Rick Oyler and Shannon Aker; and six great-grandchildren, Jason Oyler, April Oyler, Austin Oyler, Nicholas Oyler, Allison Aker, and Leslie Anne Aker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil E. Oyler; and by a grandson, Michael Oyler.
A service was Aug. 24 at Bay Church of Christ with Marvin Rickett officiating. A graveside burial service was held in Shiloh Cemetery near Ash Flat.
Pallbearers were Henry Rogers, Eddie Cooper, Mickey Spencer, Derrick Mink, Rickey Don Martin and Chad Colbert.
Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Elrod, Carroll Hundley, Larry Colbert and the elders of the Bay Church of Christ.
Arrangements were under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Memorials may be made to the Bay Church of Christ.

Veda Finchem
Veda Pauline Finchem, 70, of Highland died June 15, 2002, at her residence.
Born Sept. 28, 1931, she was the daughter of Ernest Archie and Ollie Saloma Stone North. She married Marlin Calvin Finchem Sept. 10, 1949, in Red Oak, Iowa. She was a homemaker, loved to sew, paint, draw, garden and work on her family genealogy.
Survivors include two sons – Myron Finchem and David Finchem, both of Hardy; four daughters – Pam Millsap of Silver City, Iowa, Pat Finchem of Brandon, Miss., Cathy Severn of Horseshoe Bend, and Sandi Hamon of Hardy; three brothers – Jay North of Omaha, Neb., Earnie North of Glenwood, Iowa, and Ronnie North of Calico Rock; a sister, Waneta Havener of Fort Myers, Fla.; 22 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Donna North Miller, a brother, William Preston North, and a great-granddaughter, Quintina Finchem.
The funeral was June 19 at Higginbotham Funeral Service Chapel in Hardy with Floyd Rikard officiating. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Services Inc. of Hardy.

Jeremy Funk
Jeremy “Jerry” Richard Funk, 66, of Calico Rock died March 14, 2002, at his home near Calico Rock.
Born April 18, 1935, he was the son of Harold Richard and Mildred Ruth Brunner Funk in Houston, Texas. He was a retired soil conservationist, a member of the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association and a member of Calico Rock Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Funk of the home; two sons – Robert Stafford of Ash Flat, and William Stafford of Hardy; two stepsons, Bruce Whitehead of Charlotte, N.C., and Brian Whitehead of Green Forest; three daughters – Nancy Scott of Bismark, Tracy Funk of Fayetteville, N.C., and Jennifer Brickell of Memphis; two stepdaughters, Belinda Starkey of Memphis, and Beverly Whitehead of Mountain Home; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Peggy Funk; and a brother, John Funk.
A memorial service was March 17 at Calico Rock Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Wayne Wood officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Howard Funeral Home of Calico Rock.

Grant Yohnka
Spec. Grant A. Yohnka, 21, of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., formerly of Chebanse, died July 2, 2002, at the Lifecare Center in Waynesville, Mo., following a short and courageous battle with brain cancer.
Born Jan. 15, 1981, in Kankakee, he was the son of Andrew and Kris Bernard Yohnka. He was a soldier in the U.S. Army, serving with the A-5th Engineers. He was a 1999 graduate of Central High School in Clifton and enjoyed sports. He was a Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include his wife, the former Amber Gustin whom he married Feb. 7, 2002, at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.; two brothers – Alexander Yohnka and Bryan Yohnka, both of Chebanse; his father, Andrew Yohnka of Chebanse; paternal grandparents, Richard and Bonita Yohnka of Chebanse; his mother, Kris Bernard of Martinton; and his maternal grandparents, George “Barney” Bernard and Patricia Bernard, all of Cherokee Village.
The funeral was at United Church of Christ in Chebanse with the Rev. Dennis Brayman officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Chebanse.
Memorials may be made to the Army Emergency Relief fund in Alexandria, Va.

Michael Gorring, Jr.
Michael W. Gorring Jr., 68, of Cave City died Aug. 11, 2002, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
He was born June 26, 1934, in Akron, Ohio, to Michael W. Gorring Sr. and Thelma Priscilla Peck Gorring.
He was retired from the U.S. Navy, a member of the VFW post 8042 of Evening Shade, a member of the American Rifle Association and of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include his mother, Thelma Priscilla Peck Gorring of Tok, Alaska; a son, Howard David Gorring of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; a daughter, Marlice Renee Gorring of New Philadelphia, Ohio; two brothers and four sisters; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Betty Gray
Betty Ladon Gray, 70, of Ravenden died march 1, 2002, at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born April 30, 1931, in Ravenden, she was the daughter of Edward Oswald Justus and Maggie Elizabeth Simpson Justus. She married James Earl Gray. He preceded her in death in 1986. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Ravenden.
Survivors include three daughters – Beverly Vandergriff, Joy Junkersfield and Jackie Yearian, all of Ravenden; thee sons – Billy Gray and Eddie Gray, both of Ravenden,and John Gray of Pocahontas; a sister, Opal Sutton of Fairfield, Calif.; a brother, Frank Justus of Texarkana; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Stayton Justus; and a sister, Chloe Perrin.
The funeral was March 5 at First Baptist Church of Ravenden. Burial followed at Dail Cemetery in Ravenden.
Pallbearers were Billy Gray, Michael Dotson, Josh Vandergriff, Justin Gray, Doug Claude and Chad Gray.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert Yearian, Kevin Brown and Josh Booth.
Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Hardy.

Flora “Amie” Grimes
Flora “Amie” Grimes, 80, of Ash Flat, formerly of Evening Shade, died Aug. 26, 2002, at White River Medical Center in Searcy.
Born June 27, 1922, in Izard County, she was the daughter of John and Estel Tadalock Farris. She was a homemaker and a member of Ash Flat Baptist Church, and formerly a long-time member of Evening Shade Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Francis Coleman of Ash Flat; a grandson, Mike Coleman of Bismark, Mo.; a granddaughter, Teresa Gourley of Rogers; two great-grandchildren – Jeremy Coleman of Farmington, Mo. and Amie Coleman of Bismark; five brothers – Bob Farris of Cave City, Floyd Farris of Salado, Ted Farris of Sidney, and Eddie Farris and Coy Farris, both of Evening Shade; a sister, Mamie Couch of Nashville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Grimes; and a brother, Claude Farris.
The funeral was Aug. 29 at Evening Shade Baptist Church with Robert Hutchinson officiating. Burial followed at Campground Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers were Sherman Ables, Bill Qualls, Howard Fulgham, Donald Qualls, Frankie Sharp, Gary Shell and John Ables.

Glenda Marie Guiltner
Glenda Marie Guiltner, 76, of Sidney died Oct. 2, 2002, at Batesville.
Born Nov. 30, 1925, at Peace Valley, she was the daughter of Leon Dee and Laura Belle Armstrong Roberts.
She spent her working years as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a licensed practical nurse for the Fulton County Nursing Center. She was a member of Salem Church of God.
Survivors include two sons – Gary Guiltner of Salem, and Glennis Guiltner of Jonesboro; a daughter, Charlotte Yancey of Melbourne; a brother, Herbert Roberts of Jonesboro; a sister, Irene Bristow of Cave City; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers – Glenn, Oscar, J.W. and Ernest; and an infant sister.
The funeral was Oct. 4 at Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with J.R. Wiles and Angela Calderara officiating. Burial followed in Old Baptist Cemetery at Ash Flat.
Pallbearers were Gordon Bristow, Dickie Roberts, Ronnie Roberts, Marty Roberts, Junior Bristow and John Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Yancey, Jamie Guiltner, Zachary Guiltner, Wade Guiltner, Wayne Guiltner and George Calderara.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Ernest H. Clark
Ernest H. Clark, 97, of Evening Shade died April 1, 2002, at his home.
Born Aug. 17, 1904, at Evening Shade, he was the son of Jonathan G. and Lou Duncan Clark. He was a farmer and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include three sons, – Paul Franklin Clark of Poughkeepsie, Michael Jerry Clark and Douglas Ray Clark, both of Paragould; four daughters – Gladys Ann Shirley of Paragould, Florence Ozella Campbell and Betty Jane Branch, both of Evening Shade, and Caroline Jean Grigsby of Batesville; 33 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith Marie Easley Clark; two sons, – Charles Edward Clark and Johnny Wayne Clark; five brothers – Roe Clark, Claude Clark, Homer Clark, Virgil Clark and Earl Clark; three sisters – Myrtle Hawkins, Pearl Reed and Cilia Rogers; three grandsons – Steven Dwight Shirley, John Wayne Dillard and John Dale Dillard; two great-grandchildren, Paul Franklin Clark and an infant.
The funeral was April 4 at Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Jerry Brown officiating. Burial followed in Powell’s Chapel Cemetery east of Evening Shade.
Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Harold Lloyd Parks Sr.
Harold Lloyd Parks Sr., age 91, of Oakland City, Ind., died Dec. 7, 2002.
Born Aug. 13, 1911, in Rensselaer, Ind., he was the son of Charles and Hattie Parks. He was a former resident of both Hardy and Gary, Ind., before moving to Oakland City. He was a retired oil refinery foreman. While a resident of Hardy, he was a member of the Hardy Lions Club.
Survivors include six sons – Wallace Parks of Oakland City, Ind., Robert Parks of Elgin, Ill., James Parks of Fort Smith, Douglas Parks of Griffith, Ind., Harold Parks Jr. of Ocala, Fla., and Boyd Parks of Westville, Ind; three daughters – Jackie Jones of Salt Lake City, Beverly Powell of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Patricia Straka of Munster, Ind.; a brother, Russell Parks of Fair Oaks, Ind.; four sisters – Jennie Gardner of Rockwall, Texas, Grace Pampel of Remington, Ind., Helen Griffin of Rensselaer, and Lilly Hayes of Mason, Mich.; 41 grandchildren; 105 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
The funeral was Dec. 13 at Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer with the Rev. Kenin Smith officiating. Burial was in Barkley Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer.

Harvey Lankford
Harvey A. Lankford, 72, of Myron died May 19, 2002, at his home.
Born Dec. 24, 1929, near Zion, he was the son of Harvey Parks and Eliza McAnnaley Lankford. He was a farmer and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters – Anna Foley and Janet Miles, both of Jonesboro; three sisters – Eathel Grimes of Sidney, Margaret Carter of Brownsville, Calif., and Vernell Black of Ash Flat; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Lankford; and a sister, Velda Cawart.
The funeral was May 22 at Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with John Freeman officiating. Burial followed in Roberts Cemetery near Franklin.
Pallbearers were Linwood Lankford, Henry Lankford Jr., Douglas Herron, Bobby Johnson, Tommy Grimes, Billy Lankford, Johnny Grimes, Keith Grimes, Jeremey Townsley and Trent Lankford.

Homer Marshall Allen
Homer Marshall Allen, 89, of Sitka died Oct. 20, 2002 at Sharp Nursing Home in Sidney.
Born Dec. 29, 1912, in Sitka, he was the son of Robert Burton Allen and Belle Elizabeth Darnell Allen. He was married to Esther Lee Bardell Allen. He was a stockman and was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include a son, Bartus Allen of Sitka; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister, Lovie Chism; and an infant brother.
The funeral is at 2 p.m. Oct. 23 at Higginbotham Funeral Service chapel in Hardy. Burial will follow in Schales Cemetery in Sitka.

Wendell C. Hassell
Wendell C. Hassell, 85, of Batesville died Aug. 22, 2002, at his home.
Born Dec. 29, 1916, in Sidney, he was the son of Oscar B. and Rosa Cartwright Hassell. He was a retired Navy chief and a farmer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the Korean Conflict. He was a Deacon Emeritus and a member of West Baptist Church. He was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Navy Fleet Reserves.
Survivors include four stepsons – Lavon Baxter of Harrison, Deaun Baxter of Batesville, David Baxter of Bentonville and Ranyard Richard of Cameron, Calif.; two stepdaughters – Lisa Haigwood of Newport, and Helen Gratsch of Ash Flat; a sister, Elwanda Crow of Prescott, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Pleasant Nix Richardson Hassell; his second wife, Geraldine Bradley Baxter Hassell; three brothers – Loy Hassell, Happy Hassell and Boyd Hassell; and a foster brother, Earl Tosh.
The funeral was Aug. 24 at West Baptist Church with Bob Dailey and Brien Nix Hall officiating. Burial followed in Wiles Cemetery at Ash Flat.
Pallbearers were Delmus Caraway, Rodney Downing, Steve Hassell, Scott Baxter, Steve Baxter, Isaac Haigwood, Jonathan Richardson and Rance Bell.

Helen Hempstead
Helen Hempstead, 78, of Cherokee Village died Aug. 30, 2001, at her home.
Born June 24, 1923, in New York, she was a homemaker and a member of Spring River Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald, and three sons - Franklin Hempstead of Cherokee Village, Gerald L. Hempstead of Middleburg, N.Y., and Stephen Hempstead of North Vernon, Ind.

H.B. Higginbottom
H. B. “Patch” Higginbottom, 80, of Poughkeepsie died April 3, 2002, at his home.
Born Dec. 9, 1921, near Poughkeepsie, he was the son of Cleo and Virgie Butts Higginbottom. He was a farmer, worked several years for the Sharp County Road Department, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received numerous medals including the Purple Heart. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include his wife, Lanell Heath Higginbottom; two sons – Hardy Higginbottom and Kelsey Higginbottom, both of Poughkeepsie; two daughters – Viva Daugherty of Poughkeepsie, and Betty Jo Brown of Gould; a sister, Cleotta Olson of Sedalia, Mo.; two grandchildren – Josh Higginbottom of Poughkeepsie, and Danny Brown of Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers – Gordon Higginbottom, Bart Higginbottom and Billy Mack Higginbottom.
The funeral was April 5 at Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with W.E. Norris and C.C. Baird officiating. Burial followed in Spotts Cemetery at Poughkeepsie.
Pallbearers were Michael Higginbottom, Ray Runsick, Eugene Heath, Rick Himes, Ewell Heath and Marty Himes.
Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Bobby Jean High
Bobby Jean High, 60, of Ravenden, died March 6, 2002, at Ravenden.
Born July 18, 1941, in Mississippi County, he was the son of Finis High and Ethel Dunham Lawson. He was a carpenter, an Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons – Jeffery Allen High and his wife, Kim, and Edward Dalton High and his wife, Donna, all of New Albany, Miss.; three sisters – Pauline Brown and her husband Bob, of Puxico, Mo., Arlene Sellers of Cedar Hill, Mo., and Christine Franks of Ravenden; and two grandchildren, Zachary High and Olivia High, both of New Albany, Miss.
He was preceded in death by his father; his step-father, Dennis Lawson; a brother, Robert High; a sister, Jo Ann High; and two sons – Robbie High and Bobbie High.
The funeral was March 8 at Higginbotham Chapel in Walnut Ridge. Burial followed in Kelly Cemetery near Black Rock.
Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service Inc. of Walnut Ridge.

Inez Hugueley
Inez Hugueley, 86, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Cave City, died Feb. 13, 2002, at Plaza West Regional Medical Center in Topeka.
Born Dec. 25, 1915, at Emery, she was the daughter of James Proctor and Willie C. Rogers Eason.
She was a retired optician, lived most of her life in Arkansas, and was a member of Cave City Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Billy Lyn Hugueley of San Antonio; a daughter, Sophronie “Sophie” Ann George, of Topeka; five grandchildren – Scott Hugueley of Chicago, Steve Hugueley and Angela Harrington, both of Houston, Tatum George Bandy of Las Vegas, and Troy George of Topeka; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years, L.H. Hugueley; a son, Ronnie Lee Hugueley; four brothers – Kirley Eason, Everett Eason, Arbus Eason and Barney Eason; and a sister, Ester Mobley.
The funeral was Feb. 17 at Cave City Church of Christ with Dean Fuggett officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery located east of Cave City.
Pallbearers were Steven Hugueley, Troy Bandy, Scott Hugueley and Trey George.
Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
