Arthur Murphy
Arthur Frantz Murphy, 80, of Williford died May 26, 2001, at Ash Flat Nursing and Rehabil-itation Center.
Born Aug. 9, 1920, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Irene Frantz Murphy and Arthur Reed Murphy. He was an engineer with Indiana Bell Telephone Company and North Western Bell Telephone Company. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He was a member of Spring River Presbyterian Church of Hardy.
Survivors include his wife, Berneice Murphy; a daughter, LeAnna McGuire of Iowa City, Iowa; a brother, Francis Murphy of Indianapolis; and two grandchildren.
The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. June 18 at Spring River Presbyterian Church.
The body will be cremated

Charles Muzio
Charles Richard Muzio, 69, of Cherokee Village died of myocardial infarction Feb. 4, 2001, at his home.
Born May 24, 1931, in Gary, Ind., he was the son of Charles and Anna Stunyo Muzio. After attending college he was a superviser for Indiana Public Service Utility Company. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; a son, John Charles Muzio; and a daughter, Marjorie Kmetz.
A graveside service was May 13 at Bronaugh Cemetery in Hardy with the Rev. Floyd Rikard officiating.
Memorials may be made to Spring River Baptist Church or Bronaugh Cemetery, both in Hardy.

Muriel Nelson
Muriel Esther Nelson, 78, of Brekenridge, Minn., formerly of Cherokee Village, died March 25, 2001.
Born Nov. 2, 1922, in Bismark Township, Minn., she was the daughter of Leonard F. Boehlke and Esther V. Barnes Boehlke. She was an honor graduate at Winthrop High School and became a nursing home activities director. She married Earl Nelson May 23, 1942, on her parents' farm.
She was an active member of Spring River Presbyterian Church in Hardy and Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System Auxiliary. She also enjoyed watching animals, which her husband would also carve into statues.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter and son-in-law ­ Elizabeth and Peter Hoff of Brekenridge; a daughter, Elaine Nelson of Gravois Mills, Mo.; seven grandchildren ­ Kate Hoff of Minneapolis, Megan Olson and Aaron Olson of Arden Hills, Minn., Molly Nelson and David Nelson of St. Paul; Nathan Hoff and Stephanie Hoff of Fergus Falls, Minn.; five great-grandchildren ­ Isaiah Olson, Jeremiah Olson and Jordyn Olson of Arden Hills, and Caleb Nelson and Connor Nelson of St. Paul; two sisters and a brother-in-law ­ Audrey Stenzel and Ann and Otto Gutknecht of Withrop, Minn; a brother and two sisters-in-law ­ Dr. Robert and Mary Boehlke of Richfield, Minn., and Lorinda Boehlke of Montevideo, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Nelson; a brother, Steven Boehlke; a brother-in-law, Gordon Stenzel; and her parents.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Gaylord Minn., at United Church of Christ.
Memorial may be made to Spring River Presbyterian Church in Hardy or Eastern Ozarks Hospice of Cherokee Village.

Lillian Ann Nielsen
Lillian Ann Nielsen, 90, of Cherokee Village died Dec. 9, 2001, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
Born April 10, 1911, in Grundy County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Joseph Haack and Grace Engelkes Haack. She married Louis C. Nielsen June 1, 1939, in Grundy Center, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 21, 1976.
Mrs. Nielsen was a member of the Danish Sisterhood. She moved to Cherokee Village 30 years ago from Dike, Iowa. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Cherokee Village. She was a prayer chain leader, part of the Peace Lutheran Choir, the LWML, a Sunday School teacher and a Bible school teacher. She also was a retired school teacher.
Survivors include a son and his wife – Andrew L. and Kathryn Nielsen of Greeley, Colo.; a daughter and her husband – Jean L. and Ronald Meyer of Glendale, Ariz; a brother, Hilbert Haack of Foreston, Ill.; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service was Dec. 15, 2001 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cherokee Village with the Rev. Brian Pummill officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County’s Cherokee Chapel of Highland.

Betty Lou Nosbisch
Betty Lou Nosbisch, 64, of Williford died March 26, 2001, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born Jan. 26, 1937, in Payne, Ill., she was the daughter of Agnes Spahr Smart and Oscar Smart. She was a housewife.
Survivors include her mother of Pana, Ill.; her husband, Jackie Willis Nosbisch of Williford; two sons ­ Dale Pieper and Michael Pieper, both of Pana; two daughters ­ Nancy Pieper of Pana and Brenda Whoite of Taylorville, Ill.; and two brothers ­ Butch Smart and Sherman Smart of Pana.
No service is planned at this time.

Charles Oakes
Charles Bruce Oakes, 84, of Hardy died March 29, 2001, at the John L. McCellan Memorial V.A. Hospital in Little Rock.
Born Nov. 30, 1916, in Sharp County, he was the son of John and Mary Lester Oakes. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Army. He was a self-employed farmer and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a sister, Evelyn Smith of Ravenden, a brother, Norman Oakes of Hardy, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
The graveside service was April 2 at McCullough Cemetery in the Banks community.
Pallbearers were Gary Oakes, Art Oakes, Melburn Oakes, Delbert Oakes, Ronnie Oakes and Everett Baldridge.

Mary O'Banion
Mary M. O'Banion, 72, of Horseshoe Bend, died March 21, 2001, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
Born in Magnolia, she was a real estate and insurance agent in the Horseshoe Bend area for many years.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Hugh Tanner of Ash Flat.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother.
The funeral was March 24 at First Baptist Church in Horseshoe Bend with Ken Overton officiating. Burial followed in Evening Shadows Cemetery.

Rhoda Pinkerton
Rhonda Pinkerton, 58, of Horseshoe Bend died Feb. 22, 2001, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
She worked as a waitress and cook in the area.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell.
The body was cremated. No service is planned at this time.

Warren Pleasant
Warren Dale Pleasant died March 23, 2001, at Brazos Valley Care Home in Knox City, Texas.
Born Sept. 5, 1924, in Illinois, he spent most of his childhood in Mattoon, Ill. After graduating from Mattoon High School, he attended college at the University of Wisconsin and served in the United States Navy.
For almost 50 years he was a professional photographer, traveling all through Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri and Arkansas. He owned studios in Stuttgart and Little Rock where he was known as "Mr. Pleasant, the picture man."
When he wasn't taking pictures, he could be found on the tennis court. On a tennis court in Mattoon, he met his wife, Joanne Keller Pleasant. Together they were the Arkansas Senior Olympic Tennis champions.
For many years he was active in the Sports Car Club of America and participated in many road rallies.
He was also well known for his gift of gab, always ending his visits with, "I'm sure glad you got to meet me!"
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law ­ Mary Jo and John A. Gardere of Dallas; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law ­ Ross and Debbie Cardin of Hardy and Chris and Mary Cardin of Cummings, Ga.; four grandchildren ­ Christy Duncan of Searcy, Keith Cardin of Hardy, John-Astin Gardere and Aimee Lyle Gardere of Dallas; two great-grandchildren ­ Paige and Lance Duncan of Searcy; two sisters ­ Ruth Wilkins of Mattoon, Ill., and Emma Jean of Elgin, Ill.; a brother, Lawrence Pleasant of Libby, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
The body was cremated and his ashes will be spread from the highest peak in Big Bend National Park so his spirit can once again soar alongside his wife's.
Memorials may be sent to Alzheimer's Association, 2910 Swiss Avenue, Dallas, Texas, 75204.

Raymond Porter
Staff Sgt. Raymond Thomas Porter, 31, of Fort Belvoir, Va., formerly of Hardy, died Jan. 16, 2002, at Fort Belvoir.
Born Jan. 26, 1970, in Pueblo, Colo., he was the son of Charles and Joyce Traw Porter. He was a graduate of Highland High School. He entered the military in 1989. He was a veteran of Desert Storm and was currently stationed at Fort Belvoir with the United States Army. He had been stationed at Fort Belvoir for the past five years coming from the 5th SF Group.
Survivors include his wife, Lesia Porter of Fort Belvoir; a son, Michael Porter of Fort Belvoir; his parents of Mammoth Spring; two brothers – Bill Porter of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Lee Porter of Mansfield, Texas; four sisters – Debbie Baldridge and Pamela Wiseman, both of The Colony, Texas, Patty Love of Searcy, and Penny Counts of Swifton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Thelma Porter and Amos and Bertha Traw; and a niece, Christina Baldridge.
The funeral was Jan. 25 at Tri-County’s Cherokee Chapel in Highland with military chaplain Major Gary Hensley officiating. Burial with full military honors was in the Perry Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County’s Cherokee Chapel of Highland.

Richard Prange
Richard Prange, 74, of Ranch Cordova, Calif., formerly of Cherokee Village, died June 10, 2001, at Sutter General Hospital in Sacremento, Calif.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Joseph Repech
Joseph J. Repech, 76, of Horseshoe Bend died Sept. 12, 2001, at Baxter Medical Center in Mountain Home.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and was retired from the Milwaukee Police Department, having spent 25 years of service. He was a charter member and third and fourth degree of the Knights of Columbus, an EMT volunteer for Horseshoe Bend and a member of St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church.
Survivors inlcude his wife, Evelyn; five sons and four daughters-in-law? John and Janis Repech of Milwaukee, Stephen and Valerie Repech of Danville, Calif., William and Cindy Repech of Oak Creek, Wisc., Robert and Sue Repech of Delavan, Wisc., and James Repech of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law ? Susan and Fred Petri of North Prairie, Wisc., and Barbara and John Groth of East Troy, Mich.; a sister, Dorothy Fokler of Oak Creek, Wisc.; two brothers?
Arthur Repech of Cudahy, Wisc., and Anthony Repech of Greendale, Wisc.; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three sisters.
A memorial mass was Sept. 17 at St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church with the Rev. Fred Schneider officiating.
Burial will be in the church columbarium at Horseshoe Bend.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Mount or Horseshoe Bend Library.

Hubert Richardson
Hubert Harvey Richardson, 77, of Hardy died Dec. 10, 2001, at his home.
Born Aug. 27, 1924, in Doxey City, Okla., he was the son of the Frank Harvey and Maude Elizabeth Poore Richardson. He was a self-employed farmer, cattleman and lumberjack. He was a member of Spring River Baptist Church in Hardy.
Survivors include three sisters – Dorothy Elizabeth Richardson of Selma, Calif., Gladys Ann Hoffman of Brazoria, Texas, and Minnie Marie Brooks of Bono; three brothers – Frank Isaac and John Kenneth Richardson, both of Selma, and Walter Raymond Richardson of Boling, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Emma May Richardson; and three brothers – Charlie James Richardson, Earl Harold Richardson and Hardy Authur Richardson.
A graveside service was Dec. 13 with Floyd Rikard officiating.
Pallbearers were his nephews and grandnephews – Garnet Brooks, Kenneth Brooks, Larry Brooks, Jerry Brooks, Brent Brooks and Brandon Brooks.
Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service Inc of Hardy.

Curtis Rogers
Curtis Rogers, 93, of Ash Flat died Jan. 8, 2001, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born March 21, 1907, at the Corinth Community near Ash Flat, he was the son of Lindsey "Dixie" and Sarah Ann Estes Rogers. He was a farmer, completed high school at Ash Flat and attended some college before teaching school at Center Hill, Possum Trot and Gum Point schools in the late 1920s and early 1930s. He was a lifetime member of the Corinth United Methodist Church near Ash Flat where he attended for over 90 years.
Survivors include three sons - Kenneth Rogers of Ash Flat, Boyce Rogers of Parkersburg, W. Va., and Maurice Rogers of Bentonville; two daughters - Clayta Ballard of Ash Flat and Clella Wiles of Hardy; a brother, Alfred Rogers of Ash Flat; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Glenda Hamilton Rogers; a son, Clifton Rogers; three brothers - Mark Rogers, Noel Rogers and Otis Rogers; two sisters - Cora Spurlock and Clara Long; and a grandson, Kevin Ballard.
The funeral was Jan. 11 at Ash Flat United Methodist Church with Jack Richardson, Johnny Carter and Delbert Essen officiating. Burial followed in Wiles Cemetery at Ash Flat.
Pallbearers were Weldon Rogers, Marty Rogers, Carlton Rogers, Marc Rogers, Michael Rogers, Mitchell Rogers, Cary Rogers and Clint Wiles.
Honorary pallbearers were Gary Rogers, Hassell Long, Conrad Long and Carl Rogers.

Hershel T. Runsick
Hershel T. Runsick, 85, of Evening Shade died Dec. 9, 2001, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born May 16, 1916, near Poughkeepsie, he was the son of William B. and Betty Catherine Gaff Runsick. He was a farmer and a member of Powell’s Chapel United Methodist Church at Poughkeepsie.
Survivors include a son, Ray Runsick of Evening Shade; a daughter, Carolyn Gray of Coppell, Texas; a sister, Violet Provence of Tuckerman; two grandchildren – Melissa Andrea and Jeff Gray, both of Grapevine, Texas; four great-granddaughters, Heather Gray, Courtney Gray, Lindsey Gray, and Amy Andrea; a great-grandson, Alan Andrea, all of Grapevine; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bonnie Runsick; a son, Dale Runsick; three brothers – Marlton Runsick, Herbert Runsick and John F. Runsick; three sisters, – Jettie Neely, Ottie Ford and Tina Asberry.
The funeral was Dec. 12 at Powell’s Chapel United Methodist Church at Pough-keepsie with the Rev. Alan Meinzer officiating. Burial followed at Powell’s Chapel Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers were Bryan Kimmer, Larry Snufer, Jeff Ray, Mike Higginbottom, Gary Andrea and Bob Gray.
Honorary pallbearers were Paschal Spurlock, LeRoy Johnson, Harold Hutchinson and Willie Gene Oyler.

Ed Sanford
Ed Sanford, 71, of Horseshoe Bend died Dec. 29, 2001, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born July 7, 1930, in Morris, Ill., he was the son of William and Lois Howe Sanford. He was a graduate of Lake Forest Academy and Amherst College in Massachusetts. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952. He served his country for 23 years. He was in many conflicts including Vietnam and the Bay of Pigs as a carrier pilot for the Navy. He retired from the Navy and pursued several vocations including an insurance agent, real estate salesman. He also managed his family farms for many years.
He married Jeanne Asness Oct. 13, 1990. They moved to Horseshoe Bend in January 1992 where he was active in the Kiwanis, VFW of which he was recently named commander of the local post, and worked for the Carriage Trade Realty as a part-time associate. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; two stepsons, Lawrence and his wife, Kathy, of North Aurora, Ill., and Ronald of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Mary Ann Sanford of Morris, Ill.; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a close family friend, Helen Meisner and her daughter, Audra.
The funeral was Jan. 3 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Morris, Ill. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Morris.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel.
Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Morris or to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church of Horseshoe Bend or to the Horseshoe Bend Library.

Allie Saucier
Allie Ellen Kunkel Thompson Saucier, 70, of Evening Shade died Feb. 4, 2001, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born June 14, 1930, near Evening Shade, she was the daughter of Hubert and Hazel Marie Graddy Kunkel. She was a homemaker, a member of the National Rifle Association and of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Kenneth Saucier; two sons ­ William C. Thompson of Ash Flat, and Neal Saucier of Fayetteville; two daughters ­ Phyllis Saucier and JoEllen Casey, both of Evening Shade; a brother, David O. Kunkel of Evening Shade; two sisters ­ Johnnie Hazel Ring, of Batesville and Cora Lou Murphy of Thayer, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Margaret Kunkel; her first husband, William G. Thompson; a son, Hubert Wayne Saucier; and two sisters ­ Sarah Marie Christoforo and Willella Charlton.
The funeral was Feb. 7 at Piney Fork Church of Christ in Evening Shade with the Rev. Ralph Wallis officiating. Burial followed in Evening Shade Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dewey McFarlin, Lonnie Haley, Bill Qualls, Ronnie Milligan, Jimmy Thomas and Fred Gallo.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Kunkel, Donald Qualls and Monty Haley.

Alvina Sharp
Alvina M. Sharp, 76, of Cherokee Village died Nov. 13, 2001, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
Born Oct. 24, 1925, in Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Anthony and Ann (Grenda) Raynor Sr. She was a registered nurse for 20 years. She was a member of Cherokee Village Lutheran Church, Cherokee Village Diabetes Group and the Retired Nurses Association. She received an associate of science degree from Governs University and a bachelor of science degree from College of St. Francis, both in Illinois.
Survivors include two sons – Robert Joel Burke of Albuquerque, N.M., and Christopher Alan Burke of Chicago; a daughter, Nadine Ann Burke of Chicago; a brother, Anthony Raynor Jr. of Florida; and a sister, Reggie Zumdhal of Illinois; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie Sharp; a son, Kevin Burke; and her former husband, Hank Burke.
A memorial service was Nov. 17 at Cherokee Village Lutheran Church with the Rev. Joan Ewaldsen officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County’s Cherokee Chapel of Highland.
Lasting memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arnold Sheldahl
Arnold C. Sheldahl, 92, of Jewell, Iowa, died Jan. 14, 2001.
Born June 9, 1908, in Radcliffe, Fla., he was the son of Jacob and Carrie Lunning Sheldahl. He was baptized into the Christian faith in 1908 at the Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. He was confirmed on May 21, 1922, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Ellsworth, Fla.
He was a 1927 graduate of Ellsworth High School. He taught school at Liberty Township School. On May 31, 1933, he married Ruth Peterson in Crown Point, Ind. They lived many years in Ellsworth.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served with the 28th Infantry, landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. When he returned to Ellsworth, he operated a service station and owned and operated a body shop in Ellsworth.
He and his wife retired to Cherokee Village and in July 1998 moved to Jewell to be near family. They moved into Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Nov. 29, 2000.
Survivors include his wife; a sister, Myrna Reisetter of Jewell; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dawn Glee Sheldahl in June 1941; two sisters ­ Cecile Rasmussen and Ruth Stafford; and a brother, Hilbert Sheldahl.
