William K. Sitton
William K. Sitton, 76, of Horseshoe Bend died Oct. 22, 2000, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem.
Born in Greenville, S.C., he was employed by the Norfork and Southern Railroad for 38 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Horseshoe Bend and past president of the Lions Club and AARP. He was an Army veteran having served in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Tanna Marie Jones of Walls, Miss.; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
The funeral was Oct. 24 at the United Methodist Church of Horseshoe Bend with Rev. Vaughn Marsden officiating. Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis Oct. 25.
The family requests memorials be made to the United Methodist Church of Horseshoe Bend, Lions Service for the Blind or Cancer Society.
Arrangements were under the direction of Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel.

Olga H. Standard
Olga "Jackie" Hall Standard, 71, of Cherokee Village died Oct. 13, 2000, in Batesville.
Born March 20, 1929, in Hamlin, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Arthur C. and Ruby Bristow Hall. She was reared in Hamlin and owned and operated Jackie's Poodle Grooming and Boarding Kennel in Abilene, Texas, from 1966 to 1981. She moved to Cherokee Village from Texas in 1989. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Coffin of Cherokee Village; three brothers ­ Joe C. Hall of Hamlin, Texas, S.A. Hall of Lubbock, Texas, and Dick Hall of Little Rock; three grandchildren ­ Rhenda Scott and family, Del Israel and family, all of Merkel, Texas, and Ami Neal and family of Viola; two stepgrandchildren ­ Joelle Gordon and family of Louisiana, and Robert Coffin and family of Abilene, Texas; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
The funeral was Oct. 16 at Foster-Adams funeral home in Hamlin, Texas, with the Rev. Jeffrey Fenwick and Steven Graham officiating. Burial followed in Neinda Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hank Scott, Del Israel, Daniel Neal, Nick "Bubba" Israel, Robert Coffin and Shelby Scott.

Michael Statler
Michael Anthony Statler, 51, of Agnos died Jan. 28, 2002, at his home.
Born Sept. 23, 1950, in Bakersfield, Mo., he was the son of John A. Statler and Ruby Faye Earle Statler. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1970 until 1972. He graduated from Highland High School in the class of 1968. He went to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he was a member of the Farm House Fraternity. He worked many years in agriculture as a farmer in the local area. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three daughters – Tiffany Orr and her husband, John, of Ash Flat, Michelle Vance of Jonesboro, and Amanda Statler of Agnos; the children’s mother, Judy Statler of Ash Flat; his father, John A. Statler of Imboden; his mother, Ruby F. Moffitt of Agnos; two brothers – P. Randall Statler of Imboden, and Steven Statler of Evening Shade; a half brother, Everett Moffitt Jr. of Agnos; a sister, Tanya Burkhammer of Agnos; and a grandson, Chandler Vance of Jonesboro.
A memorial service was Jan. 31 at Tri-County’s Chapel in Highland.

Vincent Swiercz
Vincent Swiercz, 68, of Cherokee Village died Nov. 28, 2000, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System. He was born Aug. 28, 1932.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, a member of Cherokee Village Lutheran Church, Elks Club, Cherokee Village Horseshoe Pitchers and Spring River Sportsman's Club.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy Stout Swiercz; two daughters and sons-in-law- Nadine and Brent Stork and Linda and Mark Betts; a sister, Barbara Lisiecki; three grandchildren - Cassie, Lisa and Nicole; and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral was Dec. 1 at Nativity Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, Wis.

Weanetta P. Trent
Weanetta Pearl Trent, 82, of Ash Flat, formerly of Williford, died Oct. 15, 2000, at the Ash Flat Nursing and Rehabiliation Center.
Born Sept. 6, 1918, in Garfield, she was a homemaker and a member of the Hardy Church of Christ.
Survivors include her son, Raymond Trent Jr. and daughter-in-law Norma Trent of Ash Flat; two sisters ­ Jeanetta Driscol of Sand Springs, Okla., and George Rose of Washburn, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Trent Sr.; her parents; a brother; and a grandchild.
Graveside funeral services were Oct. 17 at Baker Cemetery near Williford, with Tom Harris officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Christian Children's Home in Paragould.
Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service Inc. of Hardy.

Tressie Tucker
Tressie Martin Tucker, 94, of Highland died April 22, 2001, at Eagle Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ash Flat.
Born Dec. 5, 1906, at Kittle, she was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Mary Susan Smith Martin. She married Roy A. Tucker Sept. 11, 1926. She was a homemaker and teacher, and she ran the Stuart Post Office and store in Highland for many years. She was baptized in 1927 and was a member of the Lord's Church for 74 years.
Survivors include a daughter, DeLoris Lawrence of Highland; two sons ­ LeRoy Tucker of Highland, and Weston Tucker of Loudon, Tenn.; a sister, Pauline Martin of Fresno, Calif.; a brother, Clifton Martin of Batesville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters ­ Bessie Martin and Irene Waits; three brothers ­ Kenneth Martin, Rupert Martin and Alfred Martin; and a great-grandson, Jerron Lee Stone.
The funeral was April 24 at Ash Flat Church of Christ with Walter A. Buchanan officiating. Burial followed at Wiles Cemetery in Ash Flat.
Pallbearers were Douglas Stone, Weston Stone, Michael Tucker, Jeffrey Stone, Daniel Stone, Johnny Ledbetter.
Honorary pallbearers were Jordan Stone and David Stone.

Walter Farris
“Pud” Walter Willis Farris, 84, of West Memphis died Jan. 27, 2002, in Memphis.
Born Aug. 21, 1917, in Ash Flat, he was the son of Allen G. Farris and Minnie Lee Overton Farris. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sue Farris; a sister, Clara Paysinger of Salem; three stepchildren – Leon, Sherry and Martha; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Bill Farris; and a sister, Bessie Ann White.
The funeral was Jan. 29 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel in West Memphis with Gary Hair officiating. Burial followed in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion.

Ruth G. Wade
Ruth Garnetta Wade died Nov. 22, 2000, at her nephew's home in Montclair, N.J.
Born in Helper, Kan., in 1915, she moved to the Detroit area during her 20s. There she met and married Earl A. Wade. She had a successful career as a seamstress, led a mounted troop in the Girl Scouts of America and with her husband rasied several foster children.
They retired to Cherokee Village in 1962 where she resided for three decades. During that time she served as special events chairman for 10 years and wrote a 30-year history of Cherokee Village. She built an extensive outdoor classroom for the public schools which served as a model throughout the state and authored a book on Arkansas wildflowers.
Later she lived in Mountain Home before joining her family in New Jersey.
She was a woman of deep faith and her faith is what kept her strong until her departure from this life. She was passionate about what she perceived as the lack of trust in God in government and the teaching of creation in the schools. She was always an encourager, ready to send just the right verse or prayer to a struggling friend. Those of us who remember her are thankful for her gift, so faithfullly shared.
Survivors include a sister ­ Hazelle Kenicutt of Locust Grove, Okla.; a brother ­ Delta Warren Gier of Prairie Village, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.

Margo Walden
Margaret “Margo” Walden Scott Moore, 85, died Dec. 30, 2001, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System Cherokee Village.
Born Aug. 11, 1916, in Sharpsburg, Ky., she was the daughter of William Scott and Emma Quinn Scott. She was a 1936 graduate of nurse’s training at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Ky., her hometown. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at a Naperville (Ill.) College.
Prior to retiring to Cherokee Village in 1981, she, her husband, Bill, and their children resided in Louisville, Ky., Atlanta, and Villa Park, Ill.
She was a registered nurse and was active in church, civic and charitable organizations during her life.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, William F. “Bill” Moore Sr.; a daughter and son-in-law, Juliette Lee and Clifford Sowell; three grandsons, Amann Moore Sowell, Andrew Robert Sowell and Patrick William Sowell, all of Berea, Ky.; two granddaughters – Jennifer Moore Curran and her husband, Michael, of West Hartsford, Conn., and Bethany Quinn Moore of Monticello, Ky.; three great-grandchildren, – Michael Curran, Declan Curran and Quinn Curran of Hartford; a brother and sister, William L. Scott and Elizabeth of Lexington; two nieces, Lynn Scott Kearns and her husband, Thomas, and Jan Scott Keifer and her husband, George, of Lexington; and former daughter-in-law, Rebecca Richardson and her husband, Alan of Monticello.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Robert Quinn Moore and William F. Moore Jr.; a sister, Mary Lee Wright; and a nephew, William Emerson Scott.
The funeral was Jan. 4 at Cherokee Village United Methodist Church.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County’s Cherokee Chapel of Hardy.
A later memorial service will be in Lexington, Ky., with burial of her ashes in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Richard A. Walker
Richard (Dick) Allan Walker, 64, of Mammoth Spring died Nov. 18, 2000, at Fulton County Hospital.
Born March 12, 1936, in Detroit, he was the son of Cecil and Ruth Walker. He was employed in security services at General Motors and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Walker; his mother, Ruth Walker of Lincoln, Mich.; two daughters - Jane Ingalsbe of Oswego, N.Y., and Julie Walker of Tucson, Ariz.; three sons - Christopher Walker of Mammoth Spring, David Walker of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and James Walker of Harrisville, Mich.; a sister, Sandra Lawford of Palm Springs, Calif.; two brothers - John Walker and LaVern Walker, both of Troy, Mich.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Walker.
The funeral was Nov. 22 at Heath Oak Hill Chapel in Hardy with the Rev. Jack Richardson officiated. The body was cremated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Heath Oak Hill Chapel in Hardy.

Helen D. Wheldon
Helen Dundonald Wheldon, 82, of Anderson, S.C., formerly of Cherokee Village, died Nov. 22, 2000, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Jamaica, British West Indies, she was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a homemaker and a member of the Anderson Golden Garden Club.
Surviving are her husband, Theodore D. Wheldon; a son, James D. Wheldon of Loganville, Ga.; three daughters - Beryl L. Wheldon White of Traverse City, Mich., Jeanette H. Threatt of Calabash, N.C., and Alyson J. Wheldon of Dawsonville, Ga.; a sister, Valerie Bruce of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late George Plumridge and Helen Campbell Plumridge. She was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Decker.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, S.C. 29621.
The McDougald Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Levi Wilborn
Levi Wilborn, 76, of Cherokee Village, formerly of Paragould, died Dec. 2, 2000, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
The son of Arthur and Louella Varble Wilborn, he was a retired plumber and pipefitter in California. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hardy and was a Baptist deacon and Sunday school teacher for almost 50 years. He loved to fish and do woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Wilborn; a son, Dennis and wife Michele Wilborn of Hawaii; two grandsons, Dennis J. Wilborn and wife Renee of Hawaii, and Brandon Wilborn, also of Hawaii; a brother, Arch Wilborn of Noble, Okla.; two sisters - Nettie Wilson of Pelion, S.C., and Mertie Huchens of Caruthers, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Otis Jackson of Navado, Calif.; and many brothers and sisters in Christ.
The funeral was Dec. 6 at First Baptist Church in Hardy. A graveside service was held in Linwood Cemetery in Paragould with military honors.
The family has asked that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Hardy building fund.
Arrangements were under the direction of Heath Funeral Home Oak-Hill Chapel of Hardy.

Ada Winstead
Ada Winstead, 90, of Hot Springs died Jan. 23, 2001.
She was born Oct. 4, 1910, in Hardy.
The funeral was Jan. 26 at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Carpenter officiating. Burial was in Walker Cemetery in Hardy.
A memorial service was held Jan. 28.

Patricia Woodmansee
Patricia Torry Woodmansee, 78, of Brinkley, and formerly of Cherokee Village, died Jan. 9, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Born March 15, 1923, in Brinkley, she was the daughter of Robert J. and Ruth C. Webber Torry. She was a retired bookkeeper.
She was a member of Spring River Presbyterian Church at Hardy, and was also a member of the church’s Presbyterian women’s organization. She was an elder.
She was married to Roger Brittenum, who preceded her in death. Later she married Darell Woodmansee who also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Jon R. Brittenum; a daughter, Mollie D. Pelts; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents, and a brother, Robert J. Torry.
A private memorial service was Jan. 12 at Fowler Funeral Home in Brinkley with the Rev. Neill Segrest officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery at Brinkley.
Arrangements were under the direction of Fowler Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Spring River Presbyterian Church of Hardy or to the charity of one’s choice.

Helen Wylie
Helen Marie Wylie, 85, of Ozark Acres, died May 8, 2001, at her home.
Born Nov. 5, 1915, in Nashville, Tenn., she was the daughter of Marie Theresa Klien Kirkpatrick and B.B. Kirk-patrick. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Hardy.
Survivors include a son, Douglas Wylie of Memphis; two daughters ­ Margaret Ann Blumer of Memphis, and Katherine Hylander of LaGrange, Tenn.; a brother, Peter Kirkpatrick of Houston; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fleetwood "Fleet" Wylie; and a son, Raymond B. Wylie.
The funeral was May 12 at First Baptist Church of Hardy with the Rev. Ferrel Duffel officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Hardy's Building Fund.

Winogene Yost
Winogene S. Yost, 92, of Denton, Texas, died Jan. 13 at Denton Good Samaratan Village.
Born March 2, 1908, in Evanston, Ill., she attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia and Northwesten University in Evanston. She married L. Morgan Yost, an architect, in 1936, in Wilmette, Ill. They lived in Kenilworth, Ill., until their retirement to Cherokee Village in 1971. She moved to Denton in 1998.
Before moving to Arkansas, she served on the national board of Delta Gamma Fraternity, was a charter member and president of the Women's Architectural League of Chicago, a member of the League of Women Voters and was an active member of her local garden club.
In Arkansas, she held several offices, including president of the Cherokee Village Garden Club. In 1989 she was elected to serve as state president of the Arkansas Federation of Garden Clubs. She was a member of the Ozark Folk Center Committee of 100, a founding member of the Spring River Entertainment Association and a member of Panhellenic. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Cherokee Village.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law ­ Elun and Douglas Mulder of Dallas and Chari and David Binstadt of Springfield, Ill.; a son ­ G. Owen Yost of Denton; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and serveral nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Karyl Thorsen.
A memorial service was held in Denton.
