Her great love of Maine led her and her husband to South Arm Road in Andover, ME in 1986. Her beloved husband, Archie S. Weinburg, passed away in Andover in 1987.
Joan was known to share her life with many special pets. She was also fondly known as the "old lady in the little red house with the big St. Bernard." She was not known for living in the little red house or for having a big dog. She was known because her big dog, "Sarge" used to take his naps in the middle of the road. Sarge lived to be 17 years old and was a great source of comfort and joy for Joan.
Other sources of joy for her were her six children and 10 grandchildren, her love for bingo, watching The Price is Right and reading. She is known for being the first one in the car when someone mentions camping.
She will always be remembered for her positive outlook on life and her dedication to the geriatric population. Joan worked as a CNA for 55 years and still worked at that profession at the age of 70. She thought it was funny that her patients were younger than she was.
She retired on Dec. 11, 2002 when she was diagnosed as having terminal cancer. Joan will always hold a special place in the hearts of all the lives she touched.
She is survived by her six children, Debbie Donovan and her husband, George Combs of Elk-Gove, CA, Rick Donovan and his wife, Maureen, of South Paris, ME; Janice O'Connell and her fiance, Joe Martin of Lynn, MA, Joanne Mello and her husband, Jimmy of Lynn, MA, Rocky Castellano and his lifelong companion, Betty Gould of Pittsfield, NH, Brenda Castellano and her lifelong companion, Bill McDougall of Mexico, ME; her 10 grandchildren, Gina, Phillip C, Philip G, Nicole, Jade, Brian, Rhana, Michael, Elizabeth and Colbie-Lyn.
