Lottie Knowles
CANTON - Lottie Knowles, 92, of Dixfield, died on Jan. 31, 2007, at the Victorian Villa Living Center, Canton, where she had resided since September.
She was born Oct. 9. 1914, in Bethel, a daughter of John and Willimina (O'Leary) Nowlin. She was educated in Bethel schools.
She married Oscar Knowles, who predeceased her in 1954. For 21 years, she was employed at Livermore Shoe.
Her greatest pleasure in life came from dancing on Saturday nights, something that she did well into her 90's. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading and visiting with family.
She is survived by a son, Richard Knowles and his wife, Linda of Dixfield; a daughter, June Legere and her husband, Wallace of Dixfield; two brothers, Kenneth Nowlin and Clyde Nowlin, both of Harrison; two sisters, Florence Morgan of Bethel and Barbara Casey of Mexico; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
She was predeceased by a special friend, Merrill Frank; three brothers, Carl, John and Raymond Nowlin; and four sisters, Marjorie Nowlin, Rena Powers, Grace Bartlett and Eva Lane.

Richard J. Bolduc
RUMFORD -- Richard J. Bolduc, 82, of Maple Street in Rumford, died on April 5, 2003 at the Rumford Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born in Augusta on September 18, 1920, a son of Phillip and Florida (Poulin) Bolduc. He was educated in Augusta schools but had been a resident of the Rumford area community since 1939.
Mr. Bolduc was a Military Veteran having served his country during WWII in the United States Army and achieved the rank of Corporal prior to his honorable discharge. Following his time in the service, he worked 34 years in the Rumford Mill first for Oxford Paper Co. then for Boise Cascade until his retirement.
On May 29, 1999, he married Ann Delisle Biggar. He was a member of the Elks Club and also the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards.
He leaves his, wife Ann of Rumford; five step-daughters, Judy Coleman of York, PA, Janet Dwyer and husband, Tom of Bangor, Joan and husband, Don of Orlando, FL, Joyce Tremblay of Lewiston, and Jane Barriault and husband, Ron of Windham; 14 grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Evelina Delisle of Rumford; two sisters, Cecile Reed of Augusta and Pearl Wing of Hallowell; and several nieces and nephews.

Clement E. Murphy
RUMFORD -- Clement E. Murphy, 81, died on Dec. 17, 2004 at the Rumford Community Home. He had made his home on Howard Street, Dixfield and had lived in the area for many years.
He was born in Berlin, NH on Jan. 6, 1923, a son of Cornelius and Robina (Miller) Murphy. He had attended local schools.
He worked as a trimmer at Oxford Paper Company, which later became Ethyl Corporation, where he worked in the steam plant as a boiler operator and retired from in 1978 after more than 30 years.
He was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church; a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post #24, American Legion; member of Ethyl Corporation 25 Year Club; member Rumford Lodge # 862, B.P.O.E.; former member of the Antique Auto Club.
He loved to antique with his late wife and working on his 1931 Model A Roadster. He always had a smile on his face, a warm handshake, and a song in his heart.
He was married in Rumford on Feb. 27, 1943 to the late Eileen Butler, who died Apr. 27, 1994.
Survivors include a son, William "Bill" Murphy and wife, Mary Ann of Mexico; a daughter, Barbara Belanger and husband, Laurier "Bebe" of Rumford; six grandchildren, Michelle Belanger of Thomaston, Matthew Belanger of Weymouth, MA, Kelley Louvat and husband, David of Mexico, Keith Kennedy of Dixfield, Christine Moore and husband, Michael of Mexico, and Denise Murphy of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Mariah Witas of Mexico; a sister, Mary Dearborn of Berlin, NH; and a brother, Norman Murphy of Boca Raton, FL.

Arthur F. Bennett
RUMFORD - Arthur F. Bennett, 60, of Swift Avenue, died quietly at home with his family on Jan. 21, 2007.
Arthur was born in Watertown, NY, son of Carl and Dorothy (Cole) Bennett. He graduated from Watertown High School Class of 1955, attended Plattsburgh State Teachers College and graduated fron Univ. of Maine Portland-Gorham.
He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 30 years of both active and reserve service. He taught at Old Orchard Beach High School in the Industrial Arts and Technology Department until his retirement in 1997.
Mr. Bennett operated a handyman business called Art's Work during his retirement years while living in Portland.
Arthur was active for many years in Deering Lodge #183, AF&AM, Scottish Rite and Kora Temple Shrine. He served as a volunteer with Portland History Docents at Victoria Mansion, with Portland Players in South Portland, and most recently, at Rumford Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn F. (Swett) Bennett; daughter Carol Bennett Bolden and granddaughter Taylor Bolden of Las Vegas, NV; daughter Whitney Bennett Brichetto and husband David J. Sr., grandson David . Brichetto, Jr. and granddaughter Renee M. Brichetto of New Gloucester; a brother, Robert L. Bennett of Clayton, NY; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
Arthur is predeceased by his parents; a brother, David G. Bennett; and a sister, Margo Bennett Cook.

Bruce E. Mollard
RUMFORD - Bruce E. Mollard, 83, died on April 21, 2006 at his residence at Swain Brook Apartments in Rumford.
He was born in Portland, Oregon on April 13, 1923.
Bruce was married in New York City, NY in 1949 to the late Georgina Fulton, who died in Rumford on August 28, 1985.
Bruce was survived by distant relatives.

Phyllis Emma Jordan
RUMFORD - Phyllis Emma Jordan, 84, of Dixfield, died on April 21, 2006 at Rumford Hospital.
She was born, Dec. 27, 1921, in Mexico, a daughter of, John E. and Agnes (Easter) Wilson. She attended schools in Dixfield.
On Nov. 5, 1938, she married, Milford Jordan in Jay. They resided in Dixfield where she worked as a homemaker to her husband and family.
She enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and working in her gardens.
Phyllis is survived by three daughters, Janice Jackman and her husband, Harold of East Livermore, Marcia Byron and her husband, Earl "Buddy" of Rumford and Becky Thibodeau and her husband, Bernie of Rumford; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Eugene E. Wilson and his wife, Helen of Auburn; a step-brother, Joseph Huston and his wife, Betty of Raymond; a step-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband, Milford on Oct. 28, 2004; two sons, Obed M. and William M. Jordan; a grandson, William M. Jordan III; half sisters, Verna Adams, Thelma Lane, Evelyn Richards, Ellen Wilson and Hattie Dubois; a half brother, Carroll Wilson.
Memorial graveside services will be held at Saturday, April 29, at the Riverside Cemetery in Dixfield.

Olive C. Morin
LEWISTON -- Olive C. Morin, 64, of Rumford died at CMMC on March 3, 2004.
She was born on Jan. 13, 1940 in Eustis, the daughter of Phillip and Olive (Wyman) Currie.
Olive graduated from Stratton High School in 1958. She then went to Farmington State Teacher's College.
She worked for many years at Timex in Connecticut. Olive and her husband Kailen moved to Connecticut in 1960 and returned to Maine in 2002.
Olive is survived by her beloved husband, Kailen; daughter, Kathy Lawrence of CT; two sisters, Ruth Wing of Gorham, Kathleen Lloyd of Lincoln, and Marjorie Currie of Mt. View, CA; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; and sister, Lois Currie.

Julia M. Garneau
CANTON - Julia M. Garneau, 93, of Canton and formerly of Peru, died May 6, 2006 at Victorian Villa Rehabilitation & Living Center.
She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, a daughter of William and Anna Balcunas. Julia was educated in Mexico schools and lived locally all of her life.
She was employed for ten years with Diamond Match Company and later as a clerk at Newberry's Dept. Store in Rumford. Julia was a communicant of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Mexico.
She is survived by sisters-in-law, Frances Moffett and husband, Vern of Santa Maria, CA, and Priscilla Hilgenberg and husband, Donald of Matlacha, FL, Beverly Powell of Peru, Jeanne Blunda and husband, Vito of Peru, Audrey Garneau, and Midell Garneau, both of Peru; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Maurice Merrill in 1935; and her second husband, Cleston Garneau in 1983; a son, Robert Merrill and a sister, Mary Downs.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday at Demeritt Cemetery in Peru.

Edward L. Libby
LEWISTON -- Edward L. Libby, 80, of Canton, Me. died Friday, July 4, 2003 at the Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston, Me. He had resided on School Street in Canton, Maine and had lived in the area for many years.
He was born in Rumford, Maine on May 23, 1923, a son of Charles and Dora Libby, Sr., had attended Rumford schools, and during WW-II had served overseas with the U.S. Army.
Mr Libby was employed as a mill worker at the Boise Cascade Paper Co in Rumford for over 40 years until retirement in the late 70's from the Unloading Crew.
He was a member of the Swasey-Torrey Post # 100, American Legion in Dixfield, and was a member of the Boise Cascade Paper Co. 25 & 40 Year Club.
He was married in Mexico, Maine on Sept. 10, 1960 to the late Norma Stinchfield who died in Lewiston, Me. on April 29, 1996.
Survivors include four daughters Vicky Patrick & husband Thomas of Mexico, Heidi J. Libby of Dixfield, Ann Smith & husband Steven of Jay, April Libby of Lisbon Falls; two sons Norman L. Libby & wife Maureen and Edward K. Libby both of Canton; three grandchildren Patience, Eric and Jeffrey; three great grandchildren Dakota, Kaylee and Carey; 2 step-brothers Charles & Raymond Libby; and 2 step-sisters Betty & Barbara
Umbro.

Lucille D. Holman
PORTLAND -- Lucille D. Holman, 94, a longtime resident of Dixfield, went to be with the Lord and her husband, Lyman "Tuttoo" Holman, on March 11, 2004.
She was born, Feb. 5, 1910, in Rangeley, a daughter of Robert Orrison and Helen June (Davis) Dill.
Mrs. Holman was a very kind and loving woman who, along with her husband, Tuttoo, made many contributions to the community in which she lived, worked and played. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Gregory Jon Peaslee
HALLOWELL -- Gregory Jon Peaslee, II, 24, of Hallowell, formerly of the Dixfield area, died unexpectedly on June 11, 2004 in Hallowell.
He was born Oct. 23, 1979, in Rumford, a son of Gregory J. Peaslee and Cheryl (Brown) Brennan. He received his education in Rumford, Dixfield and Telstar schools, earning his GED in Augusta.
At the time of his death, Greg was employed at Major Appliance and Furniture Store in Farmingdale. He was an outdoorsman who was a compassionate, nonviolent "hunter" and he loved to fish.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him; his father, Greg J. Peaslee of Andover; his mother and step-father, Cheryl Brennan and John Brennan of Dixfield; two brothers, Joel Peaslee of Mexico and Sean Brennan of Dixfield; a sister, Amber Storer of Turner; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his beloved paternal grandmother, Pearl Peaslee.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 a.m. from the Wiles Remembrance Center, 30 Weld St., Dixfield. Family and friends are invite to call at the Remembrance Center, Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Burial at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Andover. Those attending his services have been asked to wear bright, colorful, and most importantly, casual clothing. In lieu of flowers, friends may give gifts to his family c/o Wiles Remembrance Center 30 Weld St., Dixfield, 04224.

Theresa A. Thibodeau
RUMFORD -- Theresa A. Thibodeau, 83, of Middle Avenue, Mexico, died at Rumford Hospital on March 3, 2004.
She was born on August 17, 1920, in Sherbrooke, Province of Quebec, the daughter of Philip and Eva (Moelleur) Thibodeau. She was educated locally and graduated from Mexico High School Class of 1939.
Theresa was a member of St. Theresa's Church. She was employed at the former Oxford Paper
Mill in Rumford until her retirement in 1983. Theresa enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her sister, Irene and brother, Wilfred Thibodeau, both of Mexico; her sister-in-law, Alice Thibodeau of Canton, OH; and a niece and three nephews.
Theresa was predeceased by her brother, Elphege Thibodeau; and her parents.

Madeline A. Farrington
WEST PARIS -- Madeline A. Farrington, 79, of Rumford, died on June 9, 2004 at the Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris. She had resided at the Muskie Building on Congress Street, Rumford.
She was born in Mexico, Maine on Feb. 13, 1925, the daughter of Harry and Doris (Bartlett) Glover. She had attended local schools.
Madeline had been a member of the Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion Auxiliary; a member of the Greater Rumford Senior Citizens; a Volunteer for R.S.V.P.; and a member of the Virgin Memorial Chapel of the Rumford United Methodist Church.
She was married in Rumford on June 14, 1944 to the late Charles A. Farrington.
Survivors include three sons, Eugene Farrington of Rumford, Lewis Farrington of North Turner, Henry Farrington and wife, Janet of South Portland; a daughter, Alice Vance and husband, Peter of Rumford; a brother, John Glover and wife, Elizabeth of Sweden; two sisters, Hazel Ridlon and husband, Stanley of North Waterford, and Alice Strout and husband, Russell of Casco; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary Ellen Giroux
RUMFORD - Mary Ellen Giroux, 70, died on November 23, 2005 at her residence. She resided on Holyoke Avenue in Rumford.
Born in Rumford on March 23, 1935, she was a daughter of Henry and Ethel (Lloyd) Giroux. She was a graduate of Stephens High School Class of 1953 and attended St. Mary's School of Nursing.
She was employed by Rumford Community Hospital as an Licensed Practical Nurse from 1958 to 1992. She then worked part time until age 62. She enjoyed knitting, spending time with family and family gatherings. She was a communicant of St. Athanasius - St. John Church.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Brown and his wife, Mary T., and Ralph "Bud" Brown; eight grandchildren, Erica, Jason, Angela, Patrick, Christopher, Katie, Michael, Nicholas; a great granddaughter, Brooke Lynn Brown; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Bernard Chiasson and family; two brothers, Henry (Sonny) Giroux II and David Giroux; and long time companion, Gerald Mayo.

Theresa Myles
RUMFORD - Theresa Myles, 88, of Prospect Avenue in Rumford, died on January 19, 2006 at Orchard Park Nursing Home in Farmington, following a long illness.
She was born on September 5, 1917 in Rumford, a daughter of Stephen and Josephine (Arsenault) Henry.
Theresa was educated in Rumford Schools and has lived locally most of her life.
She was married to Matthew J. Myles, Jr. on April 22, 1946 in Gardner, MA. He predeceased her in February of 2000.
Theresa was a communicant of St. Theresa's Catholic Church.
She enjoyed playing bingo, beano, going on many senior bus trips, and vacationing at York Beach.
Surviving are two sons, John J. Myles and wife, Janice of Mexico, Michael Myles and wife, Clara of Rumford; two daughters, Joyce Robinson and husband, Barrie of Merrimack, NH, and Maureen C. Heintz and husband, George of Chesterville; one sister, Edna LeBlanc of Gardner, MA; 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday January 25, 2006 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the American Lung Assoc. of Maine, 122 State St., Augusta ME 04330.

Crystle Colleen Howard
LEWSITON -- Crystle Colleen Howard, 61, of N. Waterford passed away on July 7th at Central Maine Medical Center.
Crystle was born on May 11, 1942 the daughter of Ferroll and Marie (Corrigan) Witter. Crystle worked for 22 years at Rumford Hospital as a Pharmacy Technician. She enjoyed bird watching, puzzles, and working at the Hospital.
Crystle is survived by her beloved husband George; mother Marie Witter of Gilead; sisters Ruth Thornton of Rumford and Glynda Flynn of Windham; daughters Tracie White of Dixfield and Jana Moffett of Waterford; sons Andrew Moffett and George Howard Jr. both of Waterford; and grandchildren Brandon, Seamus, Philip, Gabrielle and Elizabeth. She was predeceased by her daughter Felicia Moffett and father Ferroll Witter.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Bethel.

Alice Maud Bennett
BRUNSWICK/MEXICO -- Alice Maud Bennett, age 90, died Thursday, August 21, 2003 at Parkview hospital in Brunswick.
Alice was born May 24, 1913, in Boston, MA the daughter of John and Anne Beatrice Sherwood. She graduated from Mexico High School. Was a member of the Mexico Baptist Church. Alice worked for the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company. On August 15, 1940 she married Elijah Basil Bennett. Alice was a devoted wife and mother. A wonderful cook and fun to be with. She will always be loved and missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elijah (Ozzie) Bennett and brother Walter Sherwood, Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard Island.
Survivors include her brothers Robert Sherwood, Canton and Edward (Aileen) Sherwood, South Harpswell. Sons, Lee B. Bennett (Ginny Torman), Brunswick, Gary D. Bennett (Erin), Salem, NH, and Hollis M. Bennett (Deena), Litchfield. Daughter, Linda J. Lee, Elk River, MN. nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

John J. Daigle
RUMFORD -- John J. Daigle, 76, died on March 9, 2004 at the Rumford Hospital. He was a resident of Swain Road in Rumford.
Born in Mexico on August 7, 1927, he was the son of Lazare and Rose (Turmel) Daigle. He attended Mexico Schools.
He served in the US Army as a Private from 1945 to 1946. He worked at International Paper Company as a construction laborer.
He was married in Rumford on May 24, 1980 to Sally Weston, who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include five daughters, Pauline Wilson of Rumford, Jeannette Watkins of Richmond, Theresa Holloman and her husband, Lerry of Lewiston, Lorraine Foster of Lewiston, Rita Goggin and her husband, Guy of Lisbon; one brother, Maurice Daigle of Rumford; two sisters, Anita Daigle and Alice Goulet of Biddeford; 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; seven step children, Larry White of Mexico, Scott White of Rumford, Leonard White of Roxbury, Keith Broomhall of Rumford, Dee-Dee Touchette of Rumford, Robin Belanger of Rumford, and Donna Gilbert of Gorham, NH.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Paul and Peter; three infant granddaughters; and a step daughter, Terrie B. Davis.

Charles W. Newell III
RUMFORD -- Charles W. Newell III, 53, of Chase Street in Mexico, died on June 3, 2004 at the Rumford Hospital, where he had been a patient for five days.
He was born in Rumford on February 3, 1951 the son of Irene (McPhee) and Charles W. Newell Jr. He was a resident of the greater Rumford area all of his life, and was a graduate of Stephens High School Class of 1969.
He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran with the 1st Calvary, having served from 1971-1974. He was a member of the Robert Shand Post 1648 VFW and the Eagles 1248.
Charlie loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them at Long Lake in Bridgton, ME. He loved to cook, especially preparing meals for VFW Membership Meetings. He also enjoyed wood burning, shooting pool and watching sports, especially the Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
He enjoyed the company of his 2 cats, Smokey and Bandit. Charlie loved God and his Country and will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving besides his mother Irene of Mexico, ME are three brothers, Jim Conti of Moline, Il Bob Foreman of Sangerville and Larry Newell of No. Conway, NH; sister, Debbie Hamel and her husband, Dennis of Kittery; a sister-in-law, Donna Foreman of Rumford; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Charles Jr.; a brother, Michael Foreman; and his beloved companion, Ruth Boucher.
A Memorial Mass with Military Honors will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Mexico. Private Interment in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Assn. ME Affiliate 10 Bangor St., Augusta, ME 04330.
