Edward G. Faust
Edward G. Faust of Eagle River died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff. He was 69.
A resident of Eagle River since 1971, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the Eagle River Police Department for 18 years before retiring as a sergeant in 1994.
Mr. Faust was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eugenia; one sister, Johanna; and one brother, John.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Diane; two sons, Glen (Kim) and Kurt (KeriAnne), both of Eagle River; four daughters, Dawn (Rodger) Haugen and Kim (Michael) Jovanovic, both of Conover, Alison (Rich) Setzer of Eagle River and Kyle of Minneapolis, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Oct. 22 at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River. The Rev. Margaret Johnson officiated.
Sara Felleson
Sara Felleson of Rockford, Ill., a former resident of Conover, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Home in Rockford. She was 89.
She was born Oct. 9, 1915, in Sweden, the daughter of Richard and Teckla (nee Rohden) Larsson.
Mrs. Felleson attended schools in Sweden, and was employed as a licensed practical nurse by Swedish Covenant Hospital and Home in Chicago, Ill.
She married Elmer Felleson June 27, 1965, in Chicago. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Felleson was a former member of Conover Evangelical Free Church and First Evangelical Free Church in Chicago, Ill.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lennart.
Survivors include one stepson, Roland (Joyce) Felleson of Deer Park, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Bonnie (Larry) Russell of Phoenix, Md.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother Yngve Larsson of Sweden; one niece; and one nephew.
A memorial service was held Sept. 26 at First Evangelical Free Church in Chicago, Ill. The Rev. Bertie Holmgren officiated.
Interment
was in Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines, Ill.

Kenneth Kopanski
Kenneth Kopanski of Phelps died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Aspirus Lillian Kerr Healthcare Center Inc. in Phelps. He was 79.
Mr. Kopanski was born Dec. 31, 1925, in Marshfield, the son of John and Helen Kopanski. He moved to Phelps as a young boy.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He married Ruth Ray Oct. 11, 1976.
He was employed as office manager for Northwoods Hospital and Lillian E. Kerr Nursing Home, both in Phelps, for 42 years until he retired in 1987.
His hobbies included hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, May 2, 2000.
Survivors include two brothers, Clayton (Helen) of Phelps, John (Kayte) of Las Vegas, Nev., and Norbert (Jessie) of North Carolina; one sister, Betty (Glenn) Struck of Conover; a stepdaughter, Christine (Jack) Layman of Merrill; five nephews; and three nieces.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Phelps, with the Rev. Robert Koszarek officiating. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 1 p.m. at the church.
Burial will be in Phelps Cemetery.
Bernard 'Bernie' Otterpohl
Bernard “Bernie” Otterpohl of Land O' Lakes died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff. He was 80.
Mr. Otterpohl was born March 22, 1925, at Naperville, Ill., the son of Bernard and Alice (nee Kearns) Otterpohl.
A veteran, he had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He married Cecile La Belle.
Mr. Otterpohl owned and operated Otterpohl's Resort on the Cisco Chain in Land O' Lakes from 1948 to 1972. He also was a longtime employee of Nagel Lumber Co.
He was a member of the American Legion in Land O' Lakes and was a longtime fire warden and volunteer fireman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Herman; and a sister, Alice Heller.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years; four daughters, Yvonne Otterpohl and Louise (Steve) Fuller, both of Kingman, Ariz., Annette (Earl) Sorensen of Minocqua and Laura (Brad) Rux or St. Germain; six sons, James, Daniel, Sam (Mary Ellen), William (Lynette) and Peter, all of Land O' Lakes, and Bernard T. of Kingman, Ariz.; three sisters, Ellen (Dewey) Riedy of Naperville, Ill., Anne (Ted) Handrick and Mary Eva Otterpohl of Land O' Lakes; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Albert's Church in Land O' Lakes, with the Rev. Robert Koszarek officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Land O' Lakes.
Lawrence Schuster Sr.
Lawrence Schuster Sr. of Phelps died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander. He was 68.
Mr. Schuster was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Phelps.
A lifelong resident of Phelps, he was employed as a well driller by Hedberg Well Drilling and as a chef at Gateway Hotel in Land O' Lakes and Char-Lou Supper Club in Eagle River.
An avid outdoorsman, his hobbies included camping, hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alsona (nee Lundy) Schuster; a sister, Elsie; and one brother, Charles.
Survivors include his wife, Lilyan; three daughters, Chris (Craig) Starkweather of Sycamore, Ill., Cindy (Rob) Senner of Green Bay and Linda Schuster of South St. Paul, Minn.; one son, Larry Jr. of Rhinelander; two sisters, Kathleen Ray of Wittenberg and Connie Fuhrman of Wausau; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He is further survived by nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Oct. 25 at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River. The Rev. Gary Spurgeon officiated.
Mary Jane Miller
Mary Jane Miller of Eagle River, age 80, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2005, at her home.
She was born Aug. 5, 1925, in Kenosha, to the late John and Marie (nee Voleska) Glass.
She attended Kenosha area schools and was employed by the U.S. government in Washington, D.C., as a secretary during World War II.
On August 13, 1949, she married Harold E. Miller in Saguin, Texas. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1990.
For many years they lived in Kenosha County before moving to Eagle River where they both enjoyed fishing for muskie. They were active members of the American Legion in Eagle River.
Mary Jane also was a member of the Eagle River Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Friends of the Library, Eagle River Women's Club, Red Hat Society, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the 40 and 8 group.
She is survived by her brother, John, of Grizzley Flats, Calif.; three nieces, Leisa Dunlap and Paula Beth of Paddock Lake and Linda (Russell) Farrar of Morrison, Colo.; great-nephews; and one great-niece.
She is further survived by many close and dear friends in the Eagle River and Three Lakes region.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Gerald, and infant brother, Robert.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River with visitation for one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Star Lake Cemetery.
William Walter Peterson
William Walter Peterson of Sugar Camp died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at his home. He was 69.
He was born March 29, 1936, in Rockford, Ill., the son of Steiner and Ella (nee Hurd) Peterson.
Mr. Peterson was a 1954 graduate of Rockford East High School.
He married Kathy Ferrigan July 28, 1956.
Mr. Peterson was employed by Atwood Industries in Rockford for 39 years. When he retired in 1994, he moved to Sugar Camp.
His hobbies include hunting, fishing, woodworking and raising orchids, and he was a member of the Monday Night Muskie League.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Cynthia (Rush) DePoutee of Rockford, Natalie (Larry Baars) Madeen of Kingston, Ill., and Laura Peterson of Sugar Camp; one son, Dennis (Lynne) of Kingston; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Jan. 29 at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River. Darrell O'Rourke officiated.
Raymond G. Ritzke
Raymond G. Ritzke of Boulder Junction, a native of Sayner, died Friday, Jan 27, 2006, at his home. He was 79.
Mr. Ritzke was an active participant in Lakeland Believer's Church in Arbor Vitae.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Myrtle Ritzke; a daughter, Karen Rae.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Fischer of Castle Rock, Colo., Susan Vehrs of Woodruff and Cynthia Crawford of Boulder Junction; one son, Gregory of Seoul, Korea; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at Bolger Funeral Home-Woodruff Chapel. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Cemetery of the Pines in Boulder Junction.
Hugo Elmer 'Farmer' Bloom
Hugo Elmer “Farmer” Bloom of Eagle River died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at Eagle River Memorial Hospital. He was 83.
Mr. Bloom was born March 26, 1922, in Eagle River, the son of Anton and Josefina (nee Maki) Bloom.
He was raised and attended schools in Eagle River, graduating from Eagle River High School in 1940.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Bloom served as part of the 14th Armored Division in the European Theater. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart.
He married Joan Pearson Sept. 11, 1948, in Boone, Iowa. He worked as a carpenter throughout the area, retiring in 1984.
Mr. Bloom was a member of Eagle River VFW Post 8637 and Disabled American Veterans.
His hobbies included square dancing, bowling, hunting and fishing.
Mr. Bloom was preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis; six brothers; and four sisters.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Janet (Richard) Devine of La Crosse; one son, Ronald (Linda) of Escondido, Calif.; one sister, Esther Mayo of Eagle River; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by nieces and nephews.

Harry R. 'H.R.' Buehl
Harry R. “H.R.” Buehl of Eagle River, formerly of Naperville, Ill., and Plainfield, Ill., died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff. He was 66.
He was born April 30, 1939, in Berwyn, Ill., the son of Edna (nee Mackensworth) and Harry Buehl.
Raised in Western Springs, Ill., he was a graduate of Lyons Township High School in La Grange, Ill., and later attended Aurora University in Aurora, Ill.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the late 1950s. He married Sandra Halama Dec. 15, 1963.
Mr. Buehl was employed with the Naperville Police Department from 1967-'77 as a sergeant, then served as chief of police in Plainfield from 1977-'82.
He owned and operated Jailhouse Pizza & Pub in Aurora and later managed The Fireside in Naperville before retiring to Eagle River in 2003.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Naperville and his hobbies included drawing, painting and fishing.
Mr. Buehl was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Harold Goodwin; and several stepbrothers.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four daughters, Jodi (Tony) Calcagno, Michelle (Gregg) Bendien, Toni (Tom) Pulvermacher and Lisa Buehl; his mother, Edna Goodwin; one brother, Donald (Debby); and eight grandchildren.
He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Feb. 4 at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Naperville.
Burial was in Resurrection Mausoleum in Romeoville, Ill.

Howard N. 'Howie' Liebscher
Howard N. “Howie” Liebscher of Greendale died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006. He was 66.
Mr. Liebscher was employed as a human resource director for the Milwaukee County Transit System until his retirement. He had served in the U.S. Navy.
His hobbies included deer hunting, fishing golf and tennis. He was a frequent visitor to the North Woods.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Marcella; a brother, Dennis; and his mother-in-law, Helen Romeo.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Carol (nee Romeo); two daughters, Sherri (Jeff Galusha) Liebscher and Traci (Marc) Schwarting; two brothers, Bruce (Rita) of Sugar Camp and Thomas of Fairbanks, Alaska; father-in-law, Frank Romeo; brothers-in-law, Bob Romeo, Marge (Gene) Hughes and Janet (George) Slupski; and three grandchildren.
He is further survived by nieces, nephews and many special friends.
A funeral service was held Feb. 6 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Milwaukee.
Burial was in Wisconsin Memorial Park.

Marilyn Maillette
Marilyn Maillette of Eagle River died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff. She was 85.
Mrs. Maillette was born May 25, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of John and Anna (nee Heidenbluth) Nieses.
After attending schools in Chicago, she married Ted Maillette Jan. 20, 1946, in Chicago.
Her hobbies included baking and she was active in the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dec. 22, 2001; her parents; one son, Tom; a brother, Jack Nieses; and one sister, Joan Nieses.
Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne (Mugsy) Holmes of Merrimac and Joanne (James) Morley of Kuai, Hawaii; three sons, Mike (Anne) and James, both of Eagle River, and John (Mary) of Eau Claire; one sister, Rosemary Foukal of Highland Park, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Feb. 4 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Phelps. The Rev. Eugene Hornung officiated.
Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery in Eagle River.
