Alberta Cox
Alberta Davis Cox died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 97.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Women's Guild and Ladies of Charity. She retired from TVA and was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Cox.
Survivors include her caretaker Annie Phipps.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. George Schmidt officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Ruth Crabtree
Ruth Mildred Crabtree died Monday, May 8, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 83.
Arrangements will be announced by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home where the family will receive friends today from 5 to 8 p.m.

Bertha Downs
Bertha Downs of Soddy-Daisy died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in a local health care facility. She was 95.
She was a member of Soddy United Methodist Church and an honorary member of the Senior Center of Soddy-Daisy.
She was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Mathews.
Survivors include a daughter, Vinita M. Root, Palm Desert, Calif.; son, Leroy Mathews, Soddy-Daisy; sister, Goldia Crouse, Dayton, Tenn.; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be in Kingfisher, Okla.
Visitation will be today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home, Soddy-Daisy.

Savannah Duckett
Savannah Duckett died Monday, May 8, 2000, in an area life care facility. She was 78.
She had worked for the 3M Co. and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy E. Duckett.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay Longley, Apison; two sisters, Opal Smith and Euyla Mae Cartwright, Cleveland, Tenn.; brother, Jim Murphy, Elizabethton, Tenn.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Plowman Cemetery in Apison with the Rev. Ken Trivette officiating.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Cora Durham
Cora Lee Dunn Durham died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 72.
Graveside services will be today at 11 a.m. at Chattanooga Memorial Park with the Rev. John Livingston officiating.
Arrangements are by Williamson & Sons Funeral Home.

David Edmondson
David V. Edmondson, retired executive of Sun Trust Bank, died Sunday, May 7, in a local hospital. He was 71.
Graveside services will be today at 11 a.m. in Forest Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Barbara Acuff officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Signal Crest United Methodist Church, 1005 Ridgeway Ave., Signal Mountain, TN 37377, or Siskin Hospital, One Siskin Plaza, Chattanooga, TN 37403.

Doris Goerke
Doris Abercrombie Goerke died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 83.
She was formerly of Lynchburg, Va., a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, and owner and operator of Maxine and Dot's Beauty Salon. She had also been a hairdresser for Lovemans and Picketts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Goerke.
Survivors include a son, James L. Boatner; daughter, JoEtta Smith, Chattanooga; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be Thursday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Rev. Champ Agan officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Bobby Hood
Bobby Leon Hood died Saturday, May 6, 2000, of injuries from an automobile accident. He was 34.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Bradford officiating.
Burial will be in Levi Cemetery.

Gladys Lewis
Gladys Lewis died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in a local life care facility. She was 83.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Hooker, Ga., with the Rev. Jessie Broadnax officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Central Avenue Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Haywood Maynor
Haywood L. Maynor died Monday, May 8, 2000, in a local hospital. He was 92.
He had retired as a grader operator from the Macomb County Road Commission in Mount Clemons, Mich., where he had lived for 20 years prior to moving to Chattanooga. He was a Baptist and was also a member of the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Smith Maynor; sons, Glen and Wayne Maynor, Chattanooga, Samuel Maynor, Noaga, Kan., Doyle Maynor, Romeo, Mich., Wendell Maynor, Utica, Mich., Bill Maynor, Smyrna, Tenn., and Marshall Maynor, Paris, Tenn.; four daughters, Brooksie Hambrick, Scottsboro, Ala., Helen Johnston, Chattanooga, Marcella Wilson, Dalton, Ga., and Vicki King, Ringgold, Ga.; 27 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Atkins officiating.
Burial will be in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens at 12:30 CST in Hollywood, Ala.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Allie McBryar
Allie Grace McBryar died Monday, May 8, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 72.
Mrs. McBryar was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Cross, Wilma Walls and Virginia Ward, all of Chattanooga; two sons, Gordon McBryar, East Ridge, and Billy McBryar, Flat Rock, Ala.; three brothers, James Phillips, Chattanooga, Lee Phillips, Trenton, Ga., and Gerald Phillips, Chicago; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. EDT at Ryan Funeral Home in Trenton, Ga., with the Rev. Horace Crawford officiating.
Burial will be in McBryar Cemetery in Higdon, Ala.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mirma Burleson McCarley died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at her home. She was 87.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home in Hamilton, Ala.
Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Mildred Alene Hosse McVey died Monday, May 8, 2000, in a local life care center. She was 78.
She was a native of Nashville and a member of Brainerd Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Charles H. McVey; sons, Charles H. McVey Jr., Nashville, Douglas E. McVey, Chattanooga, and Paul R. McVey, Auburn, Ala.; daughters, Mary Ann Miller, Columbus, Ohio, and Lela Sue Lynn, Chattanooga; brothers, Douglas E. Hosse Jr., Dallas, Paul W. Hosse, Nashville, and Jacobs T. Hosse, Greensboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Brainerd Church of Christ with Ronnie Missildine and minister John Cupp officiating.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. CST at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Nashville.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Linda Cox Meeks died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 56.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. John Livingston officiating.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Billy Reed
Billy Ray Reed died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at his home. He was 64.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Francis Reed.
Survivors include two daughters, Marie Boyd, Hixson, and Bertha Reed, Rossville, Ga.; two sisters, Brenda Yost, Dayton, Tenn., and Barbara Reed, Madison, Tenn.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Robinson officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
Visitation will be today and Wednesday after 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Leon Simmons
Leon Simmons died Friday, May 5, 2000, in a local hospital. He was 63.
He was retired from U.S. Pipe and Foundry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Simmons, and his mother, Vivian Haney.
Survivors include three sons, Michael and Davon Simmons, both of Chattanooga, and Don Watkins, Rogersville, Ala.; two daughters, Barbbina Simmons, Chattanooga, and Clearsina Allen, Los Angeles; stepson, Hardrick Cain, Chattanooga; stepdaughter, Bobbie Johnson, Rogersville; five brothers, Darnell, Robert, Alfonso and James Haney, all of Rogersville, and David Haney, Norfolk, Va.; sister, Peggy Harris, Rogersville.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. CST at Little Zion Baptist Church in Rogersivlle with Jerry Nance officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

Edith H. Smartt died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 71.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Kelly's Ferry Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd McGee officiating.

She was the widow of Lonnie L. Speed.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Schutz, Chattanooga; son, James Speed, Atlanta; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be today at 3:45 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church with visitation from 3 until the time of service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kings Chest Fund, Second Presbyterian Church.
