JACK SETNAN Des Plaines Elks
A funeral service for Jack Setnan, 73, a long time resident of Des Plaines, will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee, Des Plaines. Mr. Setnan died Saturday , Oct. 5 at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Interment will be in Memory Gardens. Mr. Setnan was born in Chicago on May 9, 1929. He worked for Heinz Foods as a salesman for 34 years. For 44 years he was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and an active bowler on the church league. He also dedicated his time to the youth of the community as a coach for the South Park Little League, and was a member of the Des Plaines Elks Club. Mr. Setnan is survived by his sons, Brian of Gary, Ind., Jack (Julie) Setnan II of Palatine; his daughter Lori of Mt. Prospect; and his grandson Matthew. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred (nee Pulkos) and his brother Roland. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 67 5 Algonquin, Des Plaines, 60018.

RABURN McNEAL Des Plaines Optimist
A funeral service for Raburn McNeal, 85, of Des Plaines, will be held Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St. Des Plaines. Visitation will be held just prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. Mr. McNeal was born in Gorham, Il., on April 6, 1917. He died Friday, Oct. 4, at his daughter's home in Lisle. Mr. McNeal retired from City Products in 1982. During his career he set up the first computer rebuying program for the Ben Franklin, and he was a member of the Des Plaines Optimist Club. Mr. McNeal is survived by his daughter Dora (Ray) Leonardson of Surgeon Bay, Wis., Trudy (Tony) Chelmecki of Lisle; his grandchildren, Bard (John) Haverty, Dave (Shawn) Leonardson, Mike Leonardson, Chris, Geni, and Brian Chelmecki; and his great grandchildren, Carli, Joe, Nathan and Katie. He was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve (nee Whitmer) and his sister Ramona (Dan) Robinson.

CATHERINE PORCARO Of Mt. Prospect
A mass for Catherine Porcaro, 90, of Mt. Prospect was held Monday, Oct. 7, at St. Emily Church in Mt. Prospect. Interment was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hillside. Mrs. Porcaro had been a registered nurse for a medical office. She was the wife of the late Louis; mother of Louis (Carole), Ronald (Lil), Barbara (Steve) Cannistra, Carl, Guy, Joel (Julie) and Linda; grandmother of nine; great-grandmother of 11; and sister of Grace Ryan, the late Margaret, Winifred, Joseph, Helen, Mary and Charles. Arrangements were handled by Matz Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect.

KENNETH GAUGER Of Mt. Prospect
Funeral services for Kenneth Gauger, 51, of Mt. Prospect were held Monday, Oct. 7, at Matz Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Mr. Gauger died Thursday, oct. 3, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Burial was in Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines. Mr. Gauger had worked as an accountant and was a member of Northwest Town Kiwanis Club. Survivors include his wife Jacquelyn; aunt Dorothy (Cliff) Fromm; godchild Daniel; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

CHARLES PLICHTA Of Prospect Hts.
A funeral service of Charles Plichta of Prospect Hts. was held Wednesday, Oct. 2, at St. Thomas Becket Church. Interment was in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles. Mr. Plichta had a been the funeral director and owner of Plichta Funeral Home, which had two Chicago locations. He was also a World War II Army veteran and member of many organizations, including Catholic Circle, Polish American Citizens Club, Catholic Order of Foresters, Loyal Order of Moose, LaFourths K of C, Lafayette Council, Solvak Catholic Sokol, Teamsters Union Local #727 and the Illinois Funeral Directors Association. Mr. Plichta also served as an usher at St. Francis of Assisi Church for over 55 years. Mr. Plichta was preceded in death by two wives, Irene and Myrtle Plichta, and brothers Andrew and Walter Plichta. Survivors include his son Roger Charles (Roxanna) Plichta; daughter Sharon (George) Quigley; granddaughter Andrea Irene Plichta; grandson Cortland Charles Plichta; and nephews Edward and William Plichta.

ROY O. SWANSON Park Ridge Resident
Funeral Services for Roy O. Swanson, 87, of Park Ridge, were held Monday, Oct. 7 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 205 N. Prospect, Park Ridge. Mr. Swanson died Tuesday, Oct. 1, at St. Matthew Home, Park Ridge. Interment was in Town of Maine Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Nelson Funeral Home, 820 Talcott, Park Ridge. Mr. Swanson was survived by his wife Elaine; his daughter Nancy (Dale) Olson; his nephews, Richard (Beverly) and John (Sally) Carlson. He was preceded in death by his sister Ruth Carson. ANN TAMBURRINO Park Ridge Resident
Funeral Services for Ann Tamburrino, 97, of Park Ridge, were held Wed. Sept. 18 at St. Isaac Jogues Church. Burial was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside. Mrs. Tamburrino was born in Chicago on New Year's Day, 1905. She died Saturday, Sept. 14 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Northbrook. She was preceded in death by her husband Tony.

ALICE SULLIVAN Resident of Elk Grove
Memorial services for Alice Sullivan (nee Moyer), 53, were held Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Chicago Church of Christ, Lisle. Mrs. Sullivan died on Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Interment was private. She was born in California, and lived in Elk Grove Village for 14 years. She was employed by A.G. Edwards in Arlington Heights. She was a member of the Chicago Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, John Sullivan; children, Jonathan (Joselyn) Sullivan of DeKalb, Carl Sullivan, Kim (Matt) Clark of St. Charles, Mo., and Alicia (Matthew) Personette of Addison; grandchildren, Kimberly, Matthew Jr. and Christiana Clark of St. Charles, Mo.; parents, Forest and Elizabeth Moyer of Portland, Ore., and brothers, Dean Moyer of Gresham, Ore., Derek Moyer of Portland, Jeff Moyer of Laguna Hills, Calif.; and sisters, Beth Anne Moyer of Portland, and Marilyn Kirkpatrick of Wenatchee, Wash. Funeral services for Virgina Hill, 85, of Park Ridge, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1605 Vernon, Park Ridge, lying in state from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in Ridgewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9 at Cooney Funeral Home, 625 Busse Hwy in Park Ridge. Mrs. Hill (née Morris) died Sept. 28 at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. She was born on July 23, 1917 in Chicago. Mrs. Hill had worked as a secretary. She was also an active member of the Steinmetz H.S. Alumni Association. Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, the late Robert G. Hill; and brother, the late Robert Morris. She is survived by her sons, James and Ronald Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations to Messiah Lutheran Church would be appreciated. Arrangements were handled by Cooney Funeral Home in Park Ridge.

BRUCE BECKMANN Life-Long Park Ridge Resident
A memorial visitation for Bruce Beckmann, 86, of Park Ridge, was held on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Ryan-Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Interment was private Mr. Beckmann died Oct. 2 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. He was born on March 9, 1916, in Chicago. A life-long resident of Park Ridge, Mr. Beckmann had worked as an executive of the Searle pharmaceutical company. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Lois K. Beckmann. Surviving are daughter Barbara (Raymond) Haar; granddaughters Melora (Steve) Spriggs, Veronica (Emre) Karaca, and Megan (Michael) Field; grandchildren Alexander, Sean, and Katharine Spriggs, and Dylan Field. Mr. Beckmann is also survived by his companion, Dolores McFarland. Arrangements were handled by Ryan-Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge.

MARIE DOBROWOLSKI Park Ridge Resident
Marie Dobrowolski of Park Ridge died Thursday, Oct. 3 in Lutheran General Hospital at the age of 87. Wife of the late Paul A. Dobrowolski, she is survived by five daughters, Mary Elizabeth "Liz" (the late Charles) Molnar, Frances (Robert) Nimietz, Theresa (the late Andrew) Zander, Joanne (Jack) Phelps and Catherine (Roderick) Mayer, and 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a sister, Louise Grimes. Funeral mass was celebrated on Mon. Oct. 7, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul of the Cross Church. Interment followed on St. Boniface Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Ryan-Parke Funeral Home 120 S. Northwest Hwy., Park Ridge.

CHARLES W. REED Park Ridge Resident
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Calvary Cemetery, Park Ridge for 78 year-old Charles W. Reed Jr. Mr. Reed died on Oct. 4 while a patient in Hines V. A. hospital. Mr. Reed is survived by his brother-in-law, Jack Shannahan, who was married to his late sister Geraldine, a nephew, Timothy Shannahan and a niece, Kathy Shannahan. Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, 120 S. Northwest Hwy. was in charge of the arrangements.

ROSA REISER Park Ridge Resident
Park Ridge resident Rosa Reiser, 101 years old, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 5 in the Holy Family Hospital in Park Ridge. Born in Bietigheim, Germany, she is survived by a daughter, Catherine (Joe and the late Joe Schmitt) De Prizio, a brother, Augustine (Gretal) Essig, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews in Germany. Funeral mass was celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. at Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church. Interment followed in St. Joseph Cemetery. Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, 120 S. Northwest Hwy., Park Ridge was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Avenues to Independence.

LEROY F. ENZENBACHER Former Des Plaines Grocery Owner
Funeral services for LeRoy F. Enzenbacher, 81, formerly of Mt. Prospect, were held Monday, Dec. 2, at St. Raymond Church in Mt. Prospect. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery. Mr. Enzenbacher was the former owner and operator of Lee's Meat Market located at Pesche's Supermarket in Des Plaines. He was a long-time member of the Des Plaines Elks Club and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Enzenbacher is survived by his wife Helene (nee Pesche); children Monica (Fred) Thulin, Michael (Sheila ) Enzenbacher, Janis Enzenbacher and Elizabeth (Robert) VanSchaick; grandchildren Tiffany, Brandon, Justin, Garrett and Eva; and siblings Elaine (James) Jackson and Florence (Clarence) Moore. Arrangements were made by Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines.

ALICE M. SHERLOCK Niles Resident
Mass for Alice M. Sherlock, 75, Niles, was held at St. Juliana Church on Friday, Nov. 29. Interment was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Cooney Funeral Home, Park Ridge. Ms. Sherlock was born in Chicago on Jan. 11, 1927. She worked as a management supervisor for Illinois Bell. She died at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge on Monday, Nov. 18. Ms. Sherlock is survived by her sister Katherine Burnette; her brothers William (Rosaleen), Edward (Maureen), and David (Mary). She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Alice; her sister Margaret Becker; and her brothers, Harvey, John and Thomas. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

LYMAN PHILLIP McAFEE formerly Of Park Ridge
A memorial service for Lyman Phillip McAfee, 76, formerly of Park Ridge, was held at Cooney Funeral Home, 625 Busse, Park Ridge on Saturday, Nov. 30. Mr. McAfee was born in Chicago on Oct. 8, 1926 and grew up in Park Ridge, where he spent most of his life. He retired to Asheville, NC, to enjoy his passion for golf. Mr. McAfee died Monday, Nov. 18. He is survived by his wife, Peggie; his daughter Margie (Marc) Berliant, Rochester; his son John (Fay), MT.; his brother Vernon (Dorothy), Fl.; his grandchildren, Matthew Berliant, Katharine and Aaron Nowlan, Anne and James Sturrup, Emily Berliant, Kyle, Dillon and Lee McAfee; his great-granddaughter Maggi Nowlan; nieces, Janet Wehrli and Carol Miller; and nephews Tom and Jim McAfee. Donations in Mr. McAfee's memory may be made to St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, MT, 59004.

ANTON L. KOZLOWSKI Niles Resident
Funeral Services for Anton L. Kozlowski, 78, Niles, were held at St. John Brebeuf Church on Saturday, Nov. 30, following visitation at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, Niles. Interment was in St. Adalbert Cemetery, 6800 N. Milwaukee, Niles. Mr. Kozlowski was born in Chicago on July 1, 1924. He worked as a tool and die maker for a lock company, and served in the U.S. Army in the European and African theaters. Mr. Kozlowski died at home on Wednesday, Nov. 27. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; his daughters, Karen (William) Graham and Lisa (Christopher) Kies; his brother Robert; and his grandchildren, Eva and Anton Graham. He was preceded in death by his brothers Daniel and Leonard.

FREDERICK J. KOBOS Park Ridge
Funeral Services for Frederick J. Kobos, Park Ridge, were held Tuesday, Dec. 3 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 205 N. Prospect, Park Ridge. Arrangements were made by Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, 7812 N. Milwaukee, Niles. Mr. Kobos was born in Chicago and worked much of his life as an electronics technician. He died Friday, Nov. 29 at Lutheran General Hospital. Burial was in Town of Maine Cemetery in Park Ridge. He is survived by his daughter Linda Adler, Des Plaines; his son, Frederick J. Jr. (Suzanne); his grandchildren, Scott and Michael Adler and his great grandchildren, Jacqueline, Christine, and Richard. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Julia Kobos.

A funeral service for Barbara Zender, 68, of Des Plaines, will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 9 a.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St. in Des Plaines. Visitation took place on Tuesday, Dec. 3 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral Home. Burial took place at all Saints Cemetery. Mrs. Zender was born on May 9, 1934 in Chicago and died on Nov. 28 in Phoenix, AZ. She was a former manager of the data processing department for Maine School Dist. 207. She was preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Evelyn Zender and sister, Patricia Zender.

Funeral services for Anne L. Kriss of Des Plaines were held at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home and St. John Brebeuf Church on Nov. 27. Visitation was held at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home on Nov. 26. Burial took place at Maryhill Cemetery. Mrs. Kriss was born in Chicago and died at St. Matthew Home in Niles on Saturday, Nov. 23. Mrs. Kriss was a payroll clerk at a high school. She is survived by son, Steve (Sue) Kriss; daughter, Judi-Beth Kriss; brother, Floyd (Reggie) Skawski; sister, Josephine Olinski; brother-in-law Paul (Janet) Kriss; nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by husband, Chester Kriss; sisters, Stella Schremba and Bernice Sikora and brother, Walter Scott.

THOMAS HOWE JR. Niles Resident
Mass for Thomas Howe Jr., Niles, was held Saturday, Nov. 30, at Immaculate Conception Church, Chicago. Arrangements were handled by Cooney Funeral Home. Mr. Howe was born in Chicago and worked as an Insurance Company Executive. He died Monday, Nov. 25 at Resurrection Hospital, Chicago. Mr. Howe is survived by his children, Brian and Jackie, and his uncle, James Klinkera.

Charles B. Robison Long-time Resident, Active In Community Died On Nov. 25
A memorial service for longtime Des Plaines resident Charles B. Robison, 89, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14 at First Congregational Church, 766 Graceland Ave. Des Plaines. Born Jan. 6 1913 in Lewistown, IL, Mr. Robison died Monday, Nov. 25. During World War II he attained the rank of Major in the U.S. Army, Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of the CIA. Mr. Robison graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, IL. in 1934 and Northwestern University School of Law in 1937. He specialized in insurance and corporate law and most recently served as consulting counsel to the National Fraternal Congress of American from which he fully retired at the age of 87 1/2. Robison, a long-time resident of Des Plaines, was active in Northwest suburban community affairs serving in leadership roles with the Des Plaines Community Chest, Northwest Suburban Council Boy Scouts of America, Lions Club and First Congregational Church. He enjoyed traveling the world and sharing his experiences. Robison also promoted higher education through scholarships to Knox College and Northwestern University School of Law. He is survived by his sons Kenneth P. of Des Plaines, Peter C. (Nancy) of Springfield, VA, daughters Dianne R. Marcell of Westmont, IL, Alice R. (Tom) Berntson, of Salem OR, and grandchildren: Alan and Lindsay Robison. Mr. Robison was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, in 1996. In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to Lions Club International, 300 22nd St., Oakbrook, IL, 60570. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lewistown, IL. on Dec. 16, preceded by a short service at Henry Memorial Home at 11 a.m.

Ron Brekke
Co-Founder Of Special People, Devoted Advocate For Disabled Dies At 58
The "special people" of Des Plaines and Park Ridge have lost a champion. Ron Brekke, 58, executive director of Special People, Inc. and a tireless advocate for disabled rights, died Friday, Nov. 29 in Park Ridge. Brekke, who co-founded the Special People, Inc. organization in 1985, suffered from Post Polio Syndrome and severe scoliosis, and his health had been deteriorating. But his spirit did not give in, according to Arlene Merriman, Des Plaines Human Resources Director, and Special People Board member. "He was an inspiration," said Merriman, following Brekke's funeral on Monday. "He was always optimistic, always very dedicated, to his wife, his dogs and to Special People" Special People board President Paula Caro agreed. "It's a horrible loss, a huge loss," said Caro. "Ron was the ideal optimist, the most compassionate and caring of people." Brekke, a Park Ridge resident for 30 years, was born in Chicago on Mar. 8, 1944. He was a graphic artist and was very involved with the Park Ridge Healthy Communities Partnership. He became Executive Director of Special People in 1996, and constantly worked to educate the communities on involving the disabled, and acted as a referral service and information sources for the disabled and their families. Brekke is survived by his wife Regina, and his cousins, Mary King and Donna (John) Stevens, He was preceded in death by his cousin Sandy Clemetsen. Memorials in Ron's name can be made to Special People, Inc.

WILLIAM J. MAGUIRE Formerly of Park Ridge
A funeral mass for William J. Maguire, 72, was celebrated on Monday, Nov. 25 at St. Paul of the Cross Church. Interment followed in All Saints Cemetery. Born April 1, 1930, in Park Ridge, Mr. Maguire died Nov. 21 in Lake Geneva, WI, where he made his home. Before his retirement, Mr. Maguire had been a sales executive for Rollex Corporation. Mr. Maguire is survived by his son Kevin (Patricia); granddaughters Robin and Molly; brother Thomas F. (Beatrice) Maguire; nephews Thomas P. and Matthew Maguire; and dear friend and former wife Barbara Dierrsen. Arrangements were handled by Ryan-Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge.

ELINOR WILLOUGHBY Park Ridge Homemaker
A funeral mass for Elinor Willoughby, 76, was celebrated on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at St. Paul of the Cross Church. Interment followed in Town of Maine Cemetery. Born June 11, 1926, in Evanston, Mrs. Willoughby died Nov. 22 at her home in her Park Ridge. She had been a homemaker. Mrs. Willoughby was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Lionel P. and Helen Seguin; and her brother, Bill Seguin. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Randal E. Willoughby; daughters Marlene (Dr. John) Petrie, Pamela (Ken) Guzzetta, Amy (Kevin) Belz, Molly (Laird) Crawford, and Sally (James) Belz; and grandchildren John, Amy, Beth, Bryan, Michael, Joe, Tim, Tony, Gina, Stephanie, Ian, and Katie Rose. Memorials may be made to Rainbow Hospice of St. Paul of the Cross Church Endowment Fund. Arrangements were handled by Ryan-Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge.
