Mass for John E. "Jack" O'Brien, Jr., 82 will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 31 at St. Mary Church in Des Plaines. Visitation will be on Sunday, Jan. 30 at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St., Des Plaines. Mr. O'Brien died at Holy Family Medical Center on Jan. 26. Born on May 4, 1922, Mr. O'Brien was an electrician for Electrical Union Local 134, Chicago, for 35 years. He was a WWII Army Vet, a member of Des Plaines Elk Club #1526 and Northbrook Sportsman Club. He is survived by his wife, Rita A. (nee Cummings), brothers Dan and Don O'Brien and many nieces and nephews.

Widow of the late Don B. Carson, she is survived by children Susan Jacobson and Tim (Jolene) Carson; sister Dorothy Keith; grandchildren Andrew Jacobson, Spc. ROBERT W. CONRAD Des Plainesite
A memorial service for Robert W. Conrad, 58, a railroad engineer from Des Plaines, was held Jan. 29 in St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Des Plaines. Interment
was private. He died Jan. 24 in Lutheran General Hospital. He worked as an engineer for the Wisconsin Central Railroad. Surviving are his widow, Rachel (nee Giguere); children Jason (fiancee Emily) and Laura Conrad; along with sisters Shirley and Joan Conrad. DOUGLAS HARRIS RAND Formerly of Des Plaines
Douglas Harris Rand, grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. A. M. Purves, son of the late Albert and Helen Purves Rand, died on Dec. 27 in Santa Ana, CA. He was born on Aug. 14, 1937 in Des Plaines, was a graduate of Maine Twp. High School, 1960 graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and Greenriver Golf Course Men's Association. Mr. Rand is survived by his wife, Judy (nee Seese), his children, Dr. David (Michelle), Lynda Campbell (Greg), grandchildren, Brittany - Ball Rand, David Rand and Ryan, Megan, Patrick Campbell and brothers, Donald (Marlie) and Robert (Jo). A Memorial Service was held on Jan. 22 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Santa Ana, CA. A funeral Mass for Leonard J. Tomaszewski, 71, a Mt. Prospect resident and active leader in the St. Cecilia parish, was celebrated Jan. 29 in St. Cecilia. Interment
followed in All Saints Mausoleum, Des Plaines. Arrangements were by Friedrichs Funeral Home, Mt. Prospect. A native of Chicago, he died Jan. 26. A graduate of Northwestern University, he was a long-time State of Illinois employee and was past president of Holy Name at St. Cecilia Church. He also was an army veteran. Surviving are his son, John, and a sister, Bernice Hodor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria M. (nee Wierzhicki), and siblings, John, Lillian, Edward, and Anthony.

FRANK X. MANGAN World War II veteran
A funeral service for Frank X. Mangan, 86, of Arlington Hts., took place Saturday, Jan. 29, 3:30 p.m. at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Visitation took place Saturday, Jan. 29, 2 to 5 p.m. at Friedrichs Funeral Home. Born in New York on July 18, 1918, Mr. Mangan worked as the Vice President of Sales at Waco Manufacturing of Chicago with 30 years of service. He was involved with the reconstruction of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Yankee Stadium and the first nuclear submarine called the "Skipjack." He was a Merchant Marine Veteran of World War II, and a member of the Kerry Blue Terrier Club and the Irish American Society. Mr. Mangan died Monday, Jan. 24 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Hts. Mr. Mangan is preceded in death by his siblings John J., Harry, Alice Campbell, and Mae Bregenzer. Mr. Mangan is survived by his wife Mary Jane; sons Frank J., Michael K. (Judy) and one step-grandchild.

was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip. Mrs. Lateano was born on Dec. 28, 1940 to parents Leo and Angeline (nee Colletti) Piazza. After graduating from Fenger High School in Chicago (1959) and Chicago's Teacher's College (1963), she entered the field of teaching. She taught at Nerge School in Schaumburg for 35 years before retiring. She spent her retirement training as an artist and showed some of her works in Elk Grove Village. Mrs. Lateano was a member of the Queen of Rosary Women's Club, the Small Faith Group, and the Elk Grove Sister Cities Commission. Mrs. Lateano is survived by her husband, Frank E.; sons, Christopher J. (Kelly Weber) and Daniel J. (Jodie L. Monaco); siblings, Anthony Piazza (Leda), Dr. Salvatore Piazza (Marilyn), and Rosemary Piazza Darnieder (Jerry); sister-in-law, Shirley Lateano and her many nieces and nephews.

LEONARD W. GUZIEC Machinist
U.S. Marine Corps veteran Leonard W. Guziec passed away Jan. 18 at the age of 79. His life was celebrated at a service at St. John Brebeuf Church. Arrangments for Mr. Guziec, who was a machinist, were handled by Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles, and burial was at St. Adalbert Cemetery. Preceding him in death were daughters Donna and Karen Guziec and parents Joseph and Regina Guziec. Son Robert (Barbara) Guziec and daughter Diane (Jeff) Schorsch survive, as do his sister Helen Guziec and grandchildren Jennifer and Robbie Guziec and Brian, Dan and Kevin Schorsch.

Darcy Colleen Melby passed away in her Park Ridge home July 4. Former Park Ridge police officer William A. Nega Jr. passed away suddenly July 2 at the age of 53. Mr. Nega is survived by son William A. Nega III, daughter Kelly, parents William A. and Gayle (nee Donaldson) and siblings Robert, Joan (Tim) Goldsberry and Kathryn (late Robert) Burek. He was the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
