Michael J. Gahalla of Park Ridge died July 21 in Bloomingdale, Ill. He lived to be 84. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence C. He is survived by his sons Michael and Richard and daughter Cindy (Scott) Sefton; grandchildren Michelle (Michael Radamacher, Cheryl (Chris) McHugh, Michael, Christine, Kevin, Steven and Courtney; and great-grandchildren Mason, Amanda, Chase, Tyler and Ethan; sisters Anne Sternbauer, Helen Simanek and Teresa Gray and brother George (Rita) Gahalla. Visitation was Sunday, July 23, with his funeral the next day. Mr. Gahalla was buried at Ridgewood Cemetery.

A funeral Mass for Christopher T. Jost, 21, took place Wednesday, July 26, at St. Martin Episcopal Church, Des Plaines. Visitation took place Tuesday, July 25 at G. L. Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Jost wanted to work with children as a teen counselor or as a music teacher. He is a 2003 graduate of Maine West High School. He is survived by his parents David and Pamela; brothers James and Patrick; grandparents Florene and George Darrell and Russ and Laura Jost; aunts and uncles Richard (Ana), Cynthia, Kim, Missy and Glenona; cousins Sarah, Elizabeth and Benjamin. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. for Paul M. Lipinski on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at St. Emily Church, 1400 E. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. Mr. Lipinski, 94, passed away on July 23. Mr. Lipinski served as a Navy officer. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, and children, Rev. Paul Lipinski, Lynda (Andrew) Mesko, Stanley (Bonnie) Lipinski, and Wendy (Daryl) Herrick. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael, Timothy and Benjamin Barber; Andrew and Theresa Mesko; Brittany, Morgan and Meghan Herrick; and Ross and Stacey Lipinski; and his great grandchildren, Kurt and Stanislaus Barber. he is also survived by his brothers, Charles and Marcellus Lipinski.
ROBERT H. MAGILL
Longtime Mt. Prospect resident
Visitations services for longtime Mt. Prospect resident Robert H. Magill, 87, were conducted on Tuesday, July 25, at Friedrichs Funeral Home, followed by funeral services on Wednesday, July 26, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Mt. Prospect. He was interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in Clinton, Ill., on Thursday, July 27. Mr. Magill was a fifth-generation Clinton native, who joined Continental Airlines following enlistment in the Marine Corp in 1941, where he was assigned to Special Operations Forces. Having played basketball at Clinton High School, he was asked to play basketball for the Continental baskeball team after one year at Louisiana State University, until Continental founder Bob Six told him he could choose between basketball and running the airline.
After various promotions, Mr. Magill eventually became station manager for Midway and O'Hare airports, and later was Continental's regional vice president of sales and service for the eastern half of the U.S. and Europe. He played a formative role in developing O'Hare airport and Chicago's airline industry, having formed relationships with Chicago's late Mayor Richard J. Daley, and commissioner of aviation, Patick Dunne. He retired in 1981 after 35 years with Continental. Mr. Magill worked on committees of High School Dist. 214, served as scout master, and taught Sunday school at St. Mark Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Elizabeth, and his children, Susan (Peter) Smith, Christine (Robert Baldwin, and Hugh (Nancy) Magill. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bennett, Blair, Bradford, Evan, Maren and Eliza; and his sister, Betty Greene. Memorials to St. Mark Lutheran Church and Northwest Community Health Foundation are appreciated by the family.

Margaret Mary Magnuson, formerly of Park Ridge, died July 21 in Morton Grove. She lived to 84. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald H. "Bud". She is survived by her children, Patti (Richard) Ashman, Karen (Tim) Cerney, Rick (Cindy) Diane (Don) Schmidt and John; grandchildren Billy, Meredith, Maggie, Drew, Ryan, Lana, Emily, Anne and Jake; sisters Rose Bunch and Connie Taylor; sister-in-law Lorraine Magnuson and friend Dolly Panfil. Visitation was Sunday, July 23, with funeral the next day. She was buried in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Tilda P. Nanni passed away July 23 at Alden Courts of Des Plaines. She was born Apr. 22, 1912 in Benton, Il. A Des Plaines resident for the last 10 years of her life, Mrs. Nanni was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by parents John and Gentile Passini. Survivors include sister Helen P. Charnas; son Al Charnas; and grandson Christopher Jon Charnas. Funeral services will take place today (Wednesday) in Benton. Arrangements were made by Severino's River Woods Funeral Chapels.

A private funeral service and burial for Leo B. (Lee) Newton Jr., 81, of Rolling Meadows, was held recently, arranged by Meadows Funeral Home. A native of Salisburg, Tennessee, he died July 20 in Northwest Community Hospital. He worked as a building service manager for Allstate Insurance Co. for more than 35 years. He was also a veteran of World War II service in the Army Air Corp. Surviving are his widow, Gayle (nee Cooley); a stepson, Sibyl Newton; and siblings Robert (Joyce) Newton and Rosemarie Abbott. Sophie T. (nee Janiec) Pasminski, 84, of Niles, passed away at 8716 N. Elmore, on July 19. Visitation was conducted on Saturday, July 22, at 9:15 a.m. prior to funeral services at St. John Brebeuf Church at 10 a.m. Mrs. Pasminski is interred at St. Adalbert Cemetery, 6800 N. Milwaukee Ave. A homemaker, Mrs. Pasminski was born in Chicago on Apr. 10, 1922. She is survived by her husband, Chester Pasminski, her daughter, Christine (Frank) Grzetic, and her sons, Andrew (Irene) and Richard (Pamela) Pasminski. She is also survived by grandchildren, Nickie, Amanda, Christopher, Andrea, Danny, and David (Nancy). Mrs. Pasminski is also survived by her sister, Anne (late George) Pichlik, and her brother Teddy Janiec. Mrs. Pasminski was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine (nee Stoklosa) and John Janiec, and a brother, Roman Janiec. She is the fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Pfeifer was born on Oct. 17, 1955. He died on Sunday, July 16. His parents, Caroline and Henry Pfeifer, preceded him in death. His wife and best friend of Mary Œ'Maura'' (nee McGrath), his siblings Lynn Pfeifer and Dawn (Joey) Mazzocco, his nieces and nephews Julian, Sean, Deirdre, and Erin, survive him. Nancy E. Shulman (nee Salach) died July 23 at Alexian Bros. Medical Center. The 52-year-old was born in Berwyn and spent 20 years in Elk Grove Village. Mrs. Shulman spent 31 years with the Illinois Dept. of Rehabilitation and Family Services, and also volunteered with the Elk Grove High School Parent Foundation. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Randy H.; sons Andrew M. (Carman) and Zachary T.; brother Robert J. and sisters Mary A. (Tom) Golz and June M. (Timothy) Harbers; granddaughter Hannah Marie Shulman and many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation was July 24, and the funeral was July 25 at Grove Memorial Chapel.

Born Apr. 29, 1941 in Chicago, Huntley resident William E. "Bill" Boubal lost his battle with cancer July 29 at his home. Mr. Boubal had lived in Rolling Meadows. Mr. Boubal worked for many years as an appliance repairman. He will be fondly remembered by many for his great sense of humor. Preceding Mr. Boubal in death were father Edward F. Boubal; brother Edward W. Boubal; and nephew Keith Caccitolo. Survivors include Bette (nee Janovsky) Boubal, his wife of 37 years. Margaret R. Cowan (nee Frazier) died July 26, 2006 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Hts. Born Dec. 5, 1928 in Chicago, she married Kenneth. They raised two daughters, Paula and Patricia Cowan. Their grandchildren were Elizabeth and Jennifer Hall and Patricia Cowan. Mrs. Cowan had two sisters, Frances Young and Dorothy Anderson, and a brother, the late Donald Frazier. Visitation and the funeral were Sunday, July 30. Burial was private.

Josephine Niedzielski Gum-ieniak passed away July 29 at the age of 105. She was born in Poland Oct. 1, 1900. Mrs. Gumieniak was a seamstress. The Niles resident was celebrated with services at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, St. John Brebeuf Church and Maryhill Cemetery. Mrs. Gumieniak was preceded in death by parents Antonia and Jozef Karpinski. She is survived by son Eugeniusz Niedzielski and daughters Teresa Sokolowski and Henryka De Vargas. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Evelyn Marow, 93, a former active leader in Des Plaines civic and religious organizations, died July 22 in Indianola, Iowa, where she lived in recent years. No funeral service was held and burial was private. A native of Chicago, she attended Lake View High School. She married T. Arthur (Art) Marow in 1936. In 1959, the couple moved to Des Plaines where Art worked for the C.J. Lauer Insurance Agency and later owned the agency. In Chicago, she was the first woman to be a board member of a YMCA. In Des Plaines, she was chairman of the United Way campaign, helped organize the United Church of Christ, and became an active member of the First Congregational Church on Graceland Avenue. She was active in the Lattof YMCA, was a member of PEO Chapter HL, Tri Psi, and was a member of Rolling Green Country Club. Her husband, Art, preceded her in death in 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Arlette (Glenn) Kuehl of Indianola, and Gail (Frank) Gerig of Woodland Park, Colorado; two grandsons, Brent (Gail) Kuehl of Maple Grove, MN, and Kurt (Jane) Kuehl of Montpelier, VT; and three-great-grandsons, Baker, Brenden, and Cameron Kuehl of Maple Grove. Max A. Mergle, 74, passed away on Aug. 4 at his home in Elk Grove Village. Mr. Mergle had lived in Elk Grove Village for 43 years, while employed for 33 years by Allstate Insurance Co. Visitation was conducted Aug. 7 at Grove Memorial Chapel. The funeral Mass was offered at Queen of the Rosary Church on Aug. 8. Mr. Mergle is survived by his wife, Diane (nee Wade), and his sons, Christopher A. and Michael I. (Genevieve Salvacion). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Devoted to Boy Scouts
Leonard A. Milewski, 76, of Rolling Meadows, passed away at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, Aug. 4. Visitation was held at Meadows Funeral Home on Aug. 8. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. at St. Colette Church, 3900 Meadow Dr., Rolling Meadows. Mr. Milewski was born in Chicago in 1930. He worked as a purchasing agent for ACCO International for many years. Mr. Milewski devoted his entire life to working with the Boy Scouts, and was an Eagle Scout coordinator, helping over 100 scouts achieve the Eagle rank. He received the highest honor within the Order of the Arrow. Mr. Milewski is survived by his wife, Barbara (nee Witt), of 54 years, and his children, Robert (Donna), Pam (Kenneth) Grayer, Diane (Jim) Boler, and Tim (Ljiljana) Mileski. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Natasha, Meaghan and Jaida Grayer; Alex and Ben Boler; and Jeremy and Severina Milewski. He is also survived by his brother, Ralph (Ann) Milewski; his sister, Pat (Bud) Rupp; his sister-in-law Judith (late Russell) Pahl, and Jeanne (Robert) Fischer. Mr. Milewski is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions can be made to the Boy Scouts of America or to the American Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers.
