Visitation took place Friday, Aug. 4 at the Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Mrs Sarafim worked for Northwest Community Hospital in food services for 12 years. She is survived by her husband John Sarafim; children Kathey P. (Andreas) Charalambous, Panagiota S. Sarafim and Nicky N. Sarafim; grandchildren Georgia A. and Ioanna K. Veteran of WWII
Wilbert E. Scheer, 97, passed away at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Hts. on Aug. 4. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Scheer was born in Chicago in 1909, and worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield as a personnel director for over 25 years. Visitation was on Aug. 6 at the Lutheran Home where funeral services were conducted the following day. He was interred at Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines. Mr. Scheer was preceded in death by his wife Erna. He is survived by his children Arlene Tharp and Stephany (Keith) Oestreich. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stephen and Scott Tharp; Elizabeth (Howard) Shaw, and Mark and Christopher Oestreich. He is great grandfather to Emily Shaw.Mr.Scheer also is survived by his siblings, Adele Schultz, Deloris Winkelman, Gertrude Wetterman, and Harold Scheer. A graveside service for Mary A. Schroeder (nee Fitzsimmons), 86, took place on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Fayetteville National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark. officiated by Rev. Laura Fleetwood. Visitation was on Monday, Aug. 7 at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville. Mrs. Schroeder was born on Jan. 4, 1920 in Evanston where she was raised and educated before moving to Arkansas. She was a member of the Bella Vista Round Dancers organization, the Bella Vista Community Church and the Alpha Phi Fraternity. She died on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at a nearby nursing home. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman and her parents Francis and Martha (nee Hoffman) Fitzsimmons. Her sons, Art and Bob Schroeder, her daughter Annette Robek, and her daughter-in-law Carolyn Ryan survive her. Callison-Lough Funeral Home made funeral arrangements.

A Celebration of Life service for Mark J. Waltz, 63, took place Saturday, August 5 at the South Park Church in Park Ridge. Mr Waltz was a respected business man and former president of Waltz Brothers and TMA and a board member of Bloomingdale Bank. He was a spiritual guide to many and gave the gift of music to many as an accomplished musician and charter member of the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra. Susan M. Weinberg, 53, who grew up in Des Plaines, died on Sunday, Aug. 6 at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Weinberg was involved in the library, senior center, Des Plaines Art Council and First Congregational Church. She was born March 18, 1953 in Chicago. According to Des Plaines Public Library Director, Sandra Norlin, Susan Weinberg was appointed to the Des Plaines Public Library Board of Trustees in 2003. She served on the Finance and Planning Committees, was Board's liaison to the North Suburban Library System's Board of Directors. She also served on the library's Do the Dewey fundraiser committee. "Susan Weinberg will be missed in many ways, but most of all for her public devotion. She was generous with her time and intelligence and tireless in her energy, always planning and working to improve the quality of life for all of Des Plaines' residents.
"She was a very devout and committed Christian who was very active in her church and had many friends," stated Rev. William Grice III. " She was a lay liturgist who read scripture on Sunday mornings, participated in Bible Study and was a church usher." Ms Weinberg was preceded in death by her parents Harold E. Weinberg, Ret. C.F.D and Anne T. Weinberg (nee Ryan), sister Nancy Denzler and brother Harold E. Weinberg II. She is survived by her sister, Debra (Saul) Friedman, brother, Daniel (Nancy) Weinberg; nieces and nephews: Kirsten Denzler, Brandon Weinberg, Courtney Weinberg, Nathan Friedman and Annie Friedman. was private in Racine, Wisc. Mrs. Boyer was born on Mar. 25, 1926 in Racine, Wisc. She lived in both Wisconsin and Colorado before moving to Glenview where she lived for 45 years. She was a longtime substitute teacher for school districts 34 and 225 and also taught in Stanley, Wisc. She was a very active member of the Glenview Community Church. She died on Aug. 16, 2006 in Glenview. Robert "Bob" Crittendon, who had lived in Prospect Hts. for 12 years, died at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Hts. He was 66 years old. Mr. Crittendon, who worked for 16 years as a maintenance man at Rapid Solutions Group in Prospect Hts., was born in Kentucky and will be buried there after services Saturday. 40 Years in Elk Grove
John "Jack" W. Gallagher died Tuesday, Aug. 15 at Alexian Bros. Medical Center at the age of 69. Born in Chicago, he was an Army soldier and retired from the vending industry. His home was voted "favorite place in Elk Grove Village" in September 2000, and he loved to fish at his Wisconsin vacation house with his grandsons, Nicholas, John and Christian Kohler and Daniel and Jack Gallagher. He spent 47 years with Anne "Dolly" (nee Faso) and with her raised Joseph M. (Julie), Debbie and Donna M. (William) Kohler. Mr. Gallagher is also survived by his sister, Mary Morales, many nieces, nephews and friends and his father-in-law, Joseph Faso. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Gallagher and Mary Lundquist, and mother-in-law, Rose Faso. Visitation was Thursday, Aug. 17, with funeral the following day at St. Julian Eymard Church. He was entombed at All Saints Mausoleum.

A funeral Mass for Neil B. Howlin, 97, took place today, Aug. 25, at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Visitation was early this morning at Oehler Funeral Home. Mr Howlin lived in Des Plaines for 60 years. He had various occupations throughout his life, but predominately worked as a manufacturing representative since 1944 for Suburban Metalcraft. He was a national and home guardsman and was a volunteer organizer for Boy Scouts. He was also a band teacher for St. Gregoryıs Parish in Chicago, an Elks Club member and an usher for St. Emilyıs Parish. He enjoyed camping, traveling, gardening and tending to his squirrels and birds. He is survived by his wife Frieda L. Howlin; children Rev. Carroll Howlin and Charlotte (George) Kautz Demos; grandchildren Jennifer (Scott) Klene, Kathy (Clif) Dahlgren, James (Rachel) Kautz and Laurie (Tim) Travis; great grandchildren Drew, Charlie and C.J. Isabella (nee Horcher) Syoen, 88, passed away Aug. 17 at her home in Enid, Okla., where she moved in 1996 after living many years in Arlington Hts. where she was born. Mrs. Syoen was a long-time member of the St. James Church, Arlington Hts., and a member of the Arlington Hts. VFW Post 981 Womenıs Auxiliary. She was a health care worker and a girl scout leader. She also was a member of the St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church in Enid, where she volunteered as a Eucharistic minister. John A. Andropolis, 89, of Sheboygan, WI, and Des Plaines, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 18, 2006. Born December 17, 1916, in Sheboygan to Andrew A. and Vasilou (Polites) Andropolis. He was a graduate of Sheboygan High School Class of 1935. John was senior account manager of the Frigidaire Corporation, division of General Motors, and also Advanced Refrigeration of Chicago. Excelling in sports as a young man, he remained an avid sports spectator and family historian of sports trivia. John is the much beloved husband of Dorothy Metscher Andropolis of Sheboygan and the late Elsie Capelle (deceased 2000); dear father of Laurie Whitman (Owen) of La Grange Park, IL; Jay Andropolis (Cindy) of Algonquin, IL, and Robert Andropolis of Montgomery, IL; much-loved Papou of Sam Wheeler, Lizzie Wheeler, Kalista Andropolis, Stephanie Andropolis, Marisa Andropolis, and Jason Andropolis; brother of Georgia Jimos (the late Andrew) of Appleton,. and Dorothy Weyer (the late Robert) of Sheboygan; and was adored by many nieces and nephews who knew him well as "Uncle." Pre-deceased by brother Jacob Andropolis (the late Hazel) and sisters Catherine Varnick (the late Paul) and Helen Georgatsos (the late George). A memorial service was held on Oct. 21 at Ballhorn Chapels, Sheboygan. Mr. Beaty was interred at St. Michael Cemetery in Palatine. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Mr. Beaty was owner and founder of Beaty's Insulation of Elk Grove Village since 1971. He also drove a Davidsmeyer bus for special needs children. A Korean War veteran, he received the Purple Heart and the Korean Service Medal. He was a Chinese P.O.W. and a member of the Chosin Few. Mr. Beaty was an avid poker player and a volunteer for Public Action to Deliver Shelter (P.A.D.S.) at Christus Victor Church. He died at home on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Mr. Beaty was preceded in death by his fond brother Edward Beaty. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary V. Beaty (nee Vanderheiden), his loving children Denton W. (Lisa Jarvis) Beaty, Jama L. She passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Manor Care of Rolling Meadows. Ms. Bergstrom was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Ruth Waltrip, and her brother, Glenn (Ann Mae) Waltrip. She is survived by her children Brenda (Edward) Bernas, Lisa (George) Byrd, and Tom Bergstrom, her siblings Sallie (Edward) Panzer, David (Dawn) Waltrip, and Linda (Matthew) Coach, her grandchildren Alan Byrd, Tammy Byrd, Eric Byrd, and Robert Byrd, and her great-grandson Cody Byrd.
