Jason Roy Covert
Jason Roy Covert, 20, of Red House died January 22, 1999, in General Division, CAMC, from injuries received in an auto accident in Hometown on January 1st.
He was an employee of Wal Mart, Cross Lanes, a member of Shiloah Community Church, Red House, and a graduate of Buffalo High School, where he was a member of Buffalo High Band of Blue. He was a graduate of NIT, Cross Lanes.
Surviving: parents, David R. and Janet M. Covert of Red House; brothers, Jeremy L. and Jeffrey D., both of Red House; maternal grandparents, Pearl and Mary Cochran of Marion, Ohio; paternal grandparents, James and Maxine Cook of Eleanor; great-grandmother, Reba Harrison of Red House.
Service was held at Shiloah Community Church, with the Rev. Larry Covert and the Rev. Joey Young officiating. Burial was in Shiloah Church Cemetery. Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, was in charge of arrangements.

Wanda Woods Collier
Wanda Woods Collier, 53, of Pemberton, New Jersey died January 29, 1999.
She was a native of Winfield and a former employee of Fort Dix.
Surviving: husband, Raymond Collier; sons, Chester Woods of Ohio and Jack Woods of Raleigh, North Carolina; daughter, Susan Smith of St. Albans; mother, Dorothy Watson of Ohio.
Service was held at Woody Funeral Home, Burlington, New Jersey. Burial was in White Chapel Cemetery, Easterville, Pennsylvania.

Julia G. Deardorff
Julie G. Deardorff, 55, of Bancroft died October 26, 1999, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She attended Bancroft Church of God Mission.
Surviving: husband, Wallace “Gene” Deardorff; daughter, Angela Thomas of St. Albans; mother, Marguerite Miller of Bancroft; sister, Janet Sigman of Melbourne, Florida; brothers, James L. Miller of Graham, North Carolina, Paul R. and Larry A. Miller, both of Bancroft, and Harry H. Miller of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; one grandson.
Service was held October 29, 1999 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Jeff Arthur officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Red House.

James W. Durst
James W. Durst, 67, of Winfield, formerly of Poca, died October 27, 1999 in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was a native of Leon, a retiree from Union Carbide Tech Center with 30 years’ service, a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of Leon Baptist Church.
Surviving: wife, Patricia E. Durst; daughter, Renee Durst of Austin, Texas; sisters, Ethel Hartley of Pt. Pleasant, Erma Kapp of Columbus, Ohio, and Ora Mae Hunt of Leon; brothers, Roy Hall, William H. “Bill” Durst, Dallas Durst and Albert Durst, all of Leon; two grandsons.
Graveside service was held October 30, 1999 in Leon Cemetery with the Rev. John Emery Hayman officiating. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorial donations to Ronald McDonald House of Southern West Virginia, 302 30th Street, SE, Charleston WV 25304 or to Leon Cemetery Fund, c/o Juanita Burdette, Box 129 Burdette Street, Leon WV 255123.

Thomas David Doss
Thomas David Doss, 62, of Ashton, husband of Delphia Doss, died Monday, October 11, 1999 at home. He was a retired laborer for former grocery wholesaler Creasey Co. Also surviving are one son, Stacy Clint Doss of Ashton; one daughter, Linda Lou Chapman of Fraziers Bottom; and one brother, James Doss of Ohio. Funeral was held Thursday, October 14, 1999 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom.

Charles Devore
Charles “Al” Devore, 83, of Marysville, Ohio died September 16, 1999 in Memorial Hospital of Union County.
He was born in Pt. Pleasant and was a Army Air Force veteran of WW II. He was a retired supervisor for Curtis Wright/Rockwell International with 36 years of service. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of Urania Lodge #311 F&AM of Plain City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas & Cora (Toney) Devore; a son, Charles Devore; brothers, Billy, Jim and Ernest Devore; and sister, Doris Duncan.
Surviving: wife of 61 years, Margaret (Gould) Devore; children, Tom (Martha) Devore of Delaware, Ohio and Carol (Roger) Humble of Marysville; grandchildren, Gregg (Beth) Humble of Marysville, Mark (Linda) Humble of South Carolina, Christ (Patti) Humble of Marysville, Lori Humble of Marysville, Scott (Doreen) Devore of Texas, David (Amy) Devore of North Carolina, Doug Devore of Columbus, Rodney (Denise) Devore of Columbus, Darin (Melanie) Devore of Marysville, and Rhonda (Dan) Moore of Delaware; 20 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sharon Devore of Marysville; sister, Oretha Watts of Columbus.
Service was held September 20, 1999 at Ferguson Funeral Home with Pastor Jack Groat officiating. Burial was in Jerome Township Cemetery, Plain City. Memorial donations may be made to Riverside/Grant Hospice, 3535 Olentangy River Road, Columbus OH 43214-9861.

Garnett M. Dudley
Garnett M. Dudley, 82, of Hurricane died October 12, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
She was a homemaker, a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Hurricane, and was a lifelong resident of Hurricane.
Surviving: daughters, Glenda Stickler of Culloden, Glonda Dudley of Hurricane and Linda Prather of St. Albans; son, William C. of Hurricane; sisters, Opal Fought of Barboursville, Bernice McCleary of Hurricane and Eleanor Richter of Michigan; brothers, Bill Chapman of Hurricane; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Service was held October 14, 1999 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. James Baker officiating. Burial was in Community Cemetery, Culloden.

Joyce Anne Dawson
Joyce Anne Dawson, 43, of Scott Depot died October 11, 1999 in General Division, CAMC, after a short illness.
She was owner of Mad Hatter Beauty Salon, Scott Depot, a member of the YWCA support group on domestic violence, and attended St. John’s United Methodist Church, Scott Depot. She was a lifelong resident of Putnam County and a graduate of Clarksburg Beauty School.
Surviving: son, Justin Allen Mallett at home; mother, Erdene Shafer of Clendenin; sister, Nancy Jane Belcher of Elkview; brother, Wayne L. Shafer of Elkview.
Service was October 15, 1999 at Hafer Funeral Home, Elkview, with the Rev. Tex Frye officiating. Burial was in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.

Doris Faye Daniels
Doris Faye Daniels, 68, of Hurricane died September 4, 1999, at home after a short illness.
She was a homemaker, a Protestant and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
Surviving: sons, Jerry W. Daniels of Clearwater, Florida and Michael P. Daniels of Culloden; brothers, William Earl Taylor of Avon, Ohio, William H. Taylor, Charles M. Taylor, James Darrell Taylor and Henry Taylor, all of Hurricane; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Service was held September 7, 1999 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Charles V. Williams officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom.

James L. Davis
James L. Davis, 60, of Grafton, Ohio, formerly of Bancroft, died August 1, 1999, in Elyria Hospital after a long illness.
He was a self-employed carpenter and an Army veteran.
Surviving: companion, Janet Bush; sisters, June Hively and Betty Bailey, both of Nitro, Jenny Fox and Janet Hedrick, both of Poca; brothers, William “Bill” Davis of Hometown, Woodrow “Benny” Davis of Leesburg, Florida, Gary Davis of St. Albans, Gene Davis of Black Betsy, and Danny Davis of Cocoa, Florida.
Service was held August 5, 1999 at Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Red House, with the Rev. Sam Kinser officiating. Burial was in the memorial gardens. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

L’eathel Ann Dawson
L’eathel Ann Dawson, 95, of Hurricane died July 25, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
She was a member of Oakfield Baptist Church, Corning, Ohio, and was a retired schoolteacher.
Surviving: husband, Floyd Dawson; son, Wesley of Kimbolton, Ohio; daughters, Barbara Lynch of Waynesboro, Virginia and Shirley Casto of Hurricane; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held July 28, 1999 at Oakfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Derry, the Rev. Raymond Lemity and Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hurricane Building Fund.

Sylvia S. Davis
Sylvia Selsteen Davis, 89, of Robertsburg died February 7, 1999, in Pleasant Valley Hospital, Pt. Pleasant, after a long illness.
She was a member of Buffalo Senior Citizens and was a homemaker.
Surviving: sister, Elma Higginbotham of Robertsburg; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Mick Bailes officiating. Burial was in Tucker Cemetery, Grimms Landing.

James H. Davis
James H. Davis, 66, of Scott Depot died January 16, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital after a long illness.
He was retired from Fike Chemicals with 19 years’ service and a former employee of DuPont, Belle. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and a former member of 167th Air National Guard, Charleston.
Surviving: daughters, Grace Ann Gibson of Scott Depot and Mary Selvaraj of Charleston; uncle, Walter Davis of Belle; two grandchildren.
Service was held at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. J.R. “Dick” Gibson officiating. Burial was in Lunsford Cemetery, Milton.

Gertrude E. Dean
Gertrude E. Martin Dean, 75, of Scott Depot died July 11, 1999, at home after a long illness.
She was a retired registered nurse from Memorial Division, CAMC, a member of St. John United Methodist Church, Scott Depot, Eastern Star Chapter 131, South Charleston, and White Shrine of Jerusalem and was past high priestess of Ladies Oriental Shrine Chapter 77. She was a Marine Corps veteran.
Surviving: husband, Robert L. “Jimmy” Dean; daughter, Sandra Dean of Charleston; sister, Jean Mack of Jackson, Ohio; one grandchild.
Service and entombment was July 15, 1999 at Tyler Mountain Gardens Mausoleum, Cross Lanes, with the Rev. George Bramble officiating. Cooke Funeral Home, Cedar Grove, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Helen Joyce Dunn
Helen Joyce Dunn, 73, of Winfield, formerly of Indiana, died March 10, 1999, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a long illness.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving: sons, Floyd James Jr. of Fairborn, Ohio, Richard Gene of Dunbar, Royce S., with whom she resided, and Chris Allen of Clarksburg; daughter, Sandra Kay Kuchar of Chatham, Illinois; brother, Carl Humphreys Jr. of Princeton, Indiana; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was in Shiloh Cemetery, Hazelton, Indiana. Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, was in charge of arrangements.

Marvin L. Dobbins
Marvin Lloyd Dobbins, 88, of Scott Depot died March 4, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
He was retired from Ashley, Purity and Cablish Bakery with 30 years’ service, a former employee of the state Alcohol Beverage Control Commission, a veteran of World War II and a Teamster. He attended Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Hurricane, and had attended Bluefield State Junior College.
Surviving: wife, Virginia B. Dobbins; son, Marvin Randall “Randy” Dobbins of Charleston; stepdaughter, Linda Hudnall of Scott Depot; sisters, Beulah Robinson of Lynchburg, Virginia and Mary Phillips of Hubbard, Ohio; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating. Burial was in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.

David Estep
David Estep, 30, of Poca died November 6, 1999, in General Division, CAMC, of injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was a lifelong resident of Poca, an employee of Terramite, Cross Lanes, and attended Youngs Chapel Church, Bridge Creek.
Surviving: wife, Shannon Estep; daughter, Sidney Danielle Estep; parents, Daymond and Shirley Estep of Poca; sisters, Nancy L. Toler and Tenia Estep, both of Poca; brother, Dwight Estep of Poca; one niece; one nephew.
Service was held November 8, 1999 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Almon Giles officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
