Helen “Maw Maw Cabin Creek” Eskins, 84, of Nitro died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a long illness. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Kanawha County. She attended Red Oak Community Church.
Surviving: sons, Ira Davis Eskins Jr. of Malden, Robert G. Eskins of Nitro; brothers, Charles Cooper of Dry Branch, Alfred Cooper of Marlboro, Md.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. Service were held Friday, October 22, 1999 at Pryor Funeral Home, East Bank, with Pastor J. Mark Siers officiating. Burial in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

Wilma Eileen Estes
Wilma Eileen Estes, 78, of Hurricane died August 5, 1999, in General Division, CAMC.
She was a homemaker, a Baptist and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
Surviving: daughter, Nancy K. Pressley of Hurricane; brother, Homer Estes of Hurricane; grandchildren, Lisa E. Pressley and Billy Joe Pressley, both of Hurricane.
Service was held August 8, 1999 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Carl Cooper officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Edna Catherine Edwards
Edna Catherine Edwards, 89, of Hurricane died March 10, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
She was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Hurricane.
Surviving: daughters, Elozine Johnson and Inez Bird, both of Hurricane; sons, Ray of Culloden, David of Scott Depot and Rick of Hurricane; brother, Harold Mynes of Hurricane; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Jim McGhee officiating. Burial was in Mount Olive Cemetery, Hurricane.

Pearl Faulkner
Pearl Faulkner, 79, of Hurricane died December 16, 1999, at home.
She was a homemaker, a member of Hurricane Heights Church of God and a lifelong resident of Hurricane. She was retired from the Putnam County Board of Education.
Surviving: daughter, Phyllas Lovett Bails, Diana Jarrett and Teresa Burdette, all of Hurricane; brother, Gene Hedrick of Fraziers Bottom; sisters, Louise Warner of Sarasota, Florida and Tina Ferrell of Hurricane; five grandchildren.
Service was held December 18, 1999 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. David Burch and the Rev. Robert Underwood officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Teays Valley. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Virgina Perry Freese
Virginia Perry Freese, 82, of Scott Depot, formerly of Clarksburg, died December 15, 1999, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, after a short illness.
She was a homemaker and a former member of Christ Episcopal Church, Clarksburg.
Surviving: daughters, Nancy Justice of Princess Anne, Maryland and Carolyn Dayton of Hurricane; granddaughter, Krisa Dayton of Hurricane.
A memorial service was held December 18, 1999 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Dan Hogan officiating.

Hobert R. Fields
Hobert R. Fields, 71, of Hurricane, formerly of Brandshaw, died November 11, 1999, at home.
He was a former motorman for Island Creek Coal Co. and a member of UMW and St. John Methodist Church, Scott Depot.
Surviving: wife, Beatrice Murphy Fields; daughters, Donna Slade of Princeton and Gail Samson of Hurricane; five grandchildren.
Service was held November 13, 1999 at Mercer Funeral Home, Bluefield, with the Rev. Martin Hallett officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield.

Isa Avelyn Felix
Isa Avelyn Felix, 64, of Ona, died Thursday, October 28,1999, in St. Mary's Hospital. Services were conducted Monday, November 1 1999, at Z. Warner United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Ryder, Rev. Brent Gibson and Rev. Jeff Benedict officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born December 11, 1934. in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Stanley and Gladys Simpson Colegrove. She was a homemaker and a member of Z. Warner United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold “Corky” Felix, and one sister, Averil Rollyson. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and David Benedict and Pam and Steve Browning, all of Ona; one nephew and his wife, Randy and Annette Rollyson and their son, Matthew; a special cousin, Phyllis Smith; four grandchildren Stephanie Valdez, Kristi Browning, Brad Benedict and Aaron Benedict; and two greatgrandchildren, Anthony Steven Valdez and Alison Nicole Rowe. Pallbearers were Bill Miller, Randy Scarberry, Rod Bodmer,Warren Williams, Delmar Massie, and Peck Rutherford. Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. Fisher
Robert L. Fisher, 59, of Raymond City died November 5, 1999, at home after a long illness.
He was a 36-year resident of Raymond City and was retired from Operating Engineers Union Local No. 132 with 40 years’ service.
Surviving: wife, Dreama Fisher; daughter, Pamela Helmick of Bancroft; sons, David of Mooresville, North Carolina and Steve of Red House; sisters, Ersel Willard of Poca and Pauline Jeffries of Red House; eight grandchildren.
Service was held November 8, 1999 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Delbert Hawley officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Arena P. Fitzwater
Arena Pearl Saunders Fitzwater, 88, of Scott Depot, formerly of Oak Hill, died october 8, 1999, in Teays Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a short illness.
She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church.
Surviving: son, Harold Rose Fitzwater of Scott Depot; grandchildren, Keven Fitzwater and Brad Fitzwater, both of Scott Depot; one great-grandchild.
Graveside service was held October 11, 1999 at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with the Rev. James Shepherd officiating. Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas E. Fribbs
Thomas E. Fribbs, 92, of Hurricane, formerly of Charleston, died September 16, 1999, in Morris Nursing Home, Milton, after a short illness.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Southern Baptist Church, Scott Depot, and a retired brickmason for Local 9, Charleston. He was a 20 year resident of Hurricane.
Surviving: daughter, Mary Ann Fribbs of Le Verta, Colorado; son, Anthony of Colorado; stepdaughter, Hilda Racer of Nitro; stepsons, Alfred E. Fagan of Poca and Wilbur Fagan of Myrtle Beach; several grandchildren; stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service was held September 20, 1999 at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, South Charleston, with the Rev. H. Kenny Stidham officiating. Burial was in the memorial park. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to John D. Henson Senior Center, 2800 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane.

Rev. James C. Fisher
The Rev. James C. Fisher, 92, of Charleston died August 21, 1999, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born and raised in Putnam County, the son of the late James & Emma Fisher. He was a member of the West Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church, and was pastor of visitation for elderly and shut-in members of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College and Boston University School of Theology. He received an honorary doctorate of divinity from West Virginia Wesleyan. He pastored several churches in cities throughout the state, including White Sulphur Springs, Clarksburg, Nitro, Elkins, Princeton and Charleston, and served as superintendent of the Lewisburg district.
Surviving: daughters, Nancy Hamstead of Pittsburgh, Linda Fisher of Salem, Virginia, and Janet Eckle of Incline Village, Nevada; four grandchildren.
Service was held August 25, 1999 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Charleston, with the Rev. Judy Fisher, the Rev. Mark Fisher and the Rev. J. Clair Jarvis officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Wilson Funeral Home, Charleston was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be sent to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Educational Trust Fund, 900 Washington Street E., Charleston WV 25301 or West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon WV 26201.

Harry Fields Jr.
Harry Fields Jr., 80, of Hurricane, formerly of Cedar Grove, died August 3, 1999, at home after a long illness.
He was retired from the state of West Virginia.
Surviving: daughter, Dottie Ballard of Hurricane; brother, James of Jacksonville, Florida; three grandchildren.
Burial will be at a later date in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, Ohio. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

James W. Forth
James W. Forth, 82, of Hurricane died March 5, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
He was retired from Union Carbide and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane.
Surviving: wife, Gladys Forth; daughters, Lamonda Stanley of Madison, Indiana and Lois Wolfe of Fraziers Bottom; stepdaughters, Charlotte Lemons of Kingsport, Indiana and Brenda Poston of Thurmont, Maryland; stepson, James E. Dixon of Charleston; brothers, Howard and Alvin, both of Hurricane; sisters, Kay Tillmen of Stark, Florida and Betty Young of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, Hurricane.

William G. Frazier
William G. Frazier, 88, of Buffalo died February 19, 1999, in the VA Medical Center, Huntington, after a long illness.
He was a retired plant manager and vice president of Atlas Steel Container, Nitro. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Masonic Lodge 110, Kenova, Scottish Rite Bodies, Charleston, the state and national fox hunters associations, USO and Winfield Baptist Church.
Surviving: wife, Myrtle Frazier; sons, David C. of Buffalo and William R. of Nitro; granddaughter, Kelli M. Frazier of Parkersburg.
Service was held at Winfield Baptist Church with the Rev. D.D. Elwell and the Rev. Doug McComas officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Sharon J. Flanagan
Sharon Jane Allinder Flanagan, 50, of Grove City, Ohio, formerly of Buffalo, died February 6, 1999, at the home of her sister, Tudy Allinder Bowman of Grove City, from colon cancer.
She was an employee of Don Casto Associates, Columbus, a graduate of Buffalo-Putnam High School, and attended Charleston School of Cosmotology. She was a member of Women of the Moose 206, Columbus, and Ladies Auxiliary of Columbus/Grove City Elks Lodge 37.
Also surviving: sons, Christopher Somerville of Winfield and Toby Somerville of Teays Valley; mother, Vivian Whittington Allinder of Buffalo; brothers, William Allinder of Gibsonville and Randy Allinder of Cross Lanes; three grandchildren.
Service was held at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Wayne Burch officiating. Burial was in the Whittington family Cemetery, Buffalo. Memorial donations may be made to Arthur G. James Hospital, 300 W. 10th Avenue, Columbus OH 43210.

Peggy L. Fuquay
Peggy Luckadoo Fuquay, 44 of Leon died January 8, 1999, in General Division, CAMC, after a long illness.
She was founder and former owner of Mad Hatter Hair Design, Scott Depot.
Surviving: husband, John V.; father, Glenn C. Luckadoo of Newport News, Virginia; brothers, Jerry Luckadoo of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Rodney Luckadoo of Newport News.
Memorial service was held at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.

Farrell A. Fisher
Farrell Alton Fisher, 86, of Liberty died February 1, 1999, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a short illness.
He was a retired master carpenter for the Kanawha County Board of Education, a farmer, a member of Emma Chapel United Methodist Church and a lifelong resident of Liberty.
Surviving: wife, Augusta Coleman Fisher; sons, Windell Farrell Fisher of Columbus, Lynden Varrell Fisher of Red House, and L. Dale Fisher of Cincinnati; daughter, V. Maxine Warner of Cross Lanes; brothers, Gilbert of Dunbar, Minuard and Arthur, both of Sissonville; sisters, Dorthy Faber of Sissonville, Lenida Witt and Velda Garnes, both of Poca, Loetta Shaffer of Charleston, and Pauline Blair of Carey, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Emma Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jack Parsons officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Emma Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, Route 1 Box 44, Liberty WV 25124.

Vivian R. Fugate Forth
Vivian R. Fugate Forth, 75, of Hurricane died February 1, 1999, in Cabell Huntington Hospital after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and member of Calvary Apostolic Church, Hurricane.
Surviving: daughters, Jill Oxley of Scott Depot and Linda Harrison of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; sisters, Ima Clay of Cambridge, Ohio and Opal Keffer of Hurricane; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Calvary Apostolic Church with the Rev. C. Douglas Peters officiating. Burial was in Culloden Cemetery. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Calvary Apostolic Church, Hurricane WV 25526.

Elizabeth E. Fisher
Elizabeth E. Fisher, 89, of Red House, formerly of Dunbar, died February 4, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
She was a former employee of Fletcher Enamel, Dunbar, a member of Dunbar Church of God and attended Red House United Brethren Independent Church.
Surviving: husband, Hansel R. Fisher; son, Gary F. of Dunbar; sisters, Edna Sommerville and Wilma Lyons, both of Elyria, Ohio; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Jackie Clark officiating. Buirial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Eddy Lee Griffith
Eddie Lee Griffith, 56, of Pliny died November 19, 1999, in General Division, CAMC, of injuries received in an automobile accident.
he was a retired teacher from Winfield Middle School with 33 years' service and a graduate of West Virginia State College.
Surviving: wife, Marie Ann Griffith; daughter, Natosha Marie Griffith at home; sons, Brian Keith Griffith of Spencer, Jameson Todd Stude of Kanawha City, Gregory Scott Stude of St. Albans, and Edward Adam Elmer Griffith at home; father, Leo Edward Griffith of Auto; three grandchildren.
Service was held November 22, 1999, at Winfield Middle School with the Rev. Charles M. Roush officiating. Burial was in Griffith family Cemetery, Pliny. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Chalmer Clinton Grant
Chalmer Clinton Grant, 81, of Wise, Virginia died November 7, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital, Norton.
He was a Baptist and a retired chemical plant worker.
Surviving: wife, Thelma Grant of Teays Valley; daughters, Janet Rose of Hurricane, Betty McNeil of Bancroft and Phyllis Kinder of St. Albans; sons, Bill of Wise, Darrell Wayne of Beckley and Johnny of St. Albans; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
Service was held November 11, 1999 at Baker Funeral Home, Poind, with the Rev. Bob Mullins officiating. Burial was in Dewey Memorial Cemetery, Pound.

Marvin R. Gibbs
Marvin R. “Bobby” Gibbs, 69, of Bancroft died November 6, 1999, at home after a long illness.
He was a former employee of Fletcher Enamel, a retired finished from Custom Cabinet, Dunbar, a member of DAV, Charleston, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving: wife, Virginia Gibbs; daughter, Patty Babcock of Bancroft; son, Bill Bostic of Richmond, Virginia; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Service was held November 8, 1999 at Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Chapel, Red House, with the Rev. Jeff Arthur officiaitng. Entombment was in the mausoleum. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

William Lyle Gibson
William Lyle “Bill” Gibson, 67, of Fraziers Bottom died November 1, 1999, at home after a short illness.
He was retired from International Nickle Plant, Huntington, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving: wife, Carolyn S. Laney Gibson; daughters, Dreama Kay Rogers of Baytown, Texas and Connie Fay McCarty of Apple Grove; sons, William Olive and Daniel Scott Gibson of Fraziers Bottom, and Charles Tony Gibson of Baytown, Texas; five sisters; three brothers; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Service was held November 4, 1999 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Ray Sovine officiating. Burial was in Mount Olive Cemetery, Milton.

Housten H. Gunter
Housten Harold Gunter, 74, of Hurricane, formerly of Cross Lanes, died November 3, 1999, at home after a long illness.
He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Hurricane. He was a retired driver from McLean Trucking with 28 years’ service and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving: wife, Wanda J. Gunter; stepdaughters, Gaytha S. Harris of Jonesboro, Georgia and Brenda L. Turley of Hurricane; stepsons, Robert E. Edwards of Culloden and David Curry of Fayetteville, North Carolina; brother, Harry H. of Charleston; four stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service was held November 5, 1999 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Johnson and the Rev. Lee White officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Mount Vernon Baptist Church Multi-Purpose Building Fund, 2150 Mount Vernon Road, Hurricane WV 25526.
