Cindia Gale Jarrell, 49, of Hurricane died July 22, 1999, at home of cancer.
She attended Bethel Baptist Church, Milton.
Surviving: sons, Troy of Warner Robins, Georgia and Chris of Hurricane; daughter, Tammy Krisher of South Charleston; brother, Gordon Tomblin of Harts; sisters, Murial Johnson and Phyllis Tomblin, both of Lincolnton, North Carolina and Ethel Tomblin of Chapmanville; one grandson.
Service was held July 24, 1999 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Millard Morrison officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Memorial donations may be made to a hospice.

Bessie Jividen
Bessie Jividen, 80, of Hometown died March 16, 1999, at home after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and a Christian.
Surviving: husband, Hansel; daughter, Janet Tucker of Hometown; sons, Gerald Jividen of Smithfield, Virginia, Darrell Jividen of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Terry M. Jividen and Thomas W. Jividen, both of Hometown; brother, Dellos Adkins of Hometown; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Friday, March 19, 1999, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Lawrence Parsons officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.

Brooke L. Johnson
Brooke Lauryn Johnson, infant daughter of Mike and Cindy Johnson of Hurricane, died January 28, 1999, in Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Also surviving: brother, Bobby Johnson; sister, BreeAnn Johnson; maternal grandparents, Bob and Pat Jarvis of St. Albans; paternal grandparents, Chuck and MaryAnn Johnson of Charleston.
Service was held at St. John United Methodist Church, Scott Depot, with the Rev. Frank Frye officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests donations to St. John United Methodist Church, c/o Brooke Lauryn Johnson Memorial Fund, 4013 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot WV 25560.

John Henry Johnson
John Henry Johnson, 74, of Hurricane died February 5, 1999, in Mariner Health Care, Huntington, after a long illness.
He was retired from Union Carbide, an Army veteran and a member of Nitro Moose Lodge and the American Legion.
Surviving: daughters, Phawn Johnson Cusick of Huntington, Janet Johnson Burke of Huntsville, Alabama, and Dena Johnson Pattersson of Florida; son, T.D. Johnson of Hurricane; brother, Paige Johnson of Clearbrook, Virginia; eight grandchildren.
Service was held at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Thelma Z. Johnson
Thelma Z. Johnson, 83, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, formerly of Hurricane, died January 16, 1999, in Wyandot Manor Nursing, Upper Sandusky.
She was a homemaker and a seamstress with 20 years’ service. She was a 12-year manager of Short Stop Convenience Mart, Upper Sandusky. She was of the Apostolic faith.
Surviving: son, James William Johnson of Hudsonville, Michigan; daughter, Rebecca Johnson-Blocksom of Upper Sandusky; sisters, Ollie Freditz of Carey and Maude A. Peters of Hurricane; one grandchild.
Service was held at Lucas Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Charles Steward officiating. Burial was in Old Mission Cemetery, Upper Sandusky. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or First Apostolic Church, Hurricane.

James. A. Johnson
James Arlon Johnson, 66, of Willoughby, Ohio, formerly of Teays Valley, died January 16, 1999, at home.
He was a retired service technician from Crane Pro 21 and a former member of the Church of God, Hurricane.
Surviving: daughter, Patricia J. Johnson of Willoughby; mother, Myrtle C. Johnson Ray of Teays Valley; sister, Cynthia Ann Frazier of Fraziers Bottom; brothers, Manuel Ray of St. Albans, Harry W. Ray of Hurricane and Gary W. Ray of Oak Hill; two grandchildren.
Service was held at Big Scary Church, Scott Depot, with the Rev. Keith Hudson officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Orin H. Jeffers
Orin H. Jeffers, 93, of Leon died January 20, 1999, at home after a short illness.
He was a farmer and a member of Evergreen Church of Christ, Fraziers Bottom. He attended Creston United Methodist Church, Leon.
Surviving: daughters, Wanda Bird of Parkersburg, Welda Campbell of Charleston, and Aumothea Bryan of St. Albans; sons, James of Cross Lanes and Hillery O. of Warren, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Phillip Scarberry officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Calvin William Jones
Calvin William Jones, 82, of Hurricane died January 26, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
He was a self-employed businessman and developer in Putnam County and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 9097, Putnam Masonic Lodge 139, Scottish Rite Bodies, Charleston, Beni Kedem Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a lifelong resident of Putnam County and a Baptist.
Surviving: daughter, Linda K. Sheltz of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; sons, Ivan D. and Roy W., both of Hurricane; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Walter F. Wade officiating. Burial, with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Putnam Masonic Lodge 139 and military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 9097, was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Harold Lee King
Harold Lee “Mutt” King, 71, of Leon died December 16, 1999, at the home of his sister, Odith Matheny of Leon.
Also surviving: sisters, Delilah Jacques of Muncie, Indiana and mamie Scarberry of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, Isaac of Columbus and Darrell of Grimms Landing; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held December 18, 1999 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Doug Garten and Pastor Alan Washington officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Park.

Rita Kimble
Rita Miller Kimble, 77, of Hurricane died October 2, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
She was a charter member of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church and was co-owner of Kimble Realty. She was a former teacher’s aide at Winfield Middle School, a former employee of the Putnam Democrat, a member of Putnam Democratic Women’s Club, a former Democrat committeewoman and served on the Putnam County Transportation Committee. She was the first Cub Scout leader in Teays Valley and helped organize the first parent-teacher association in Putnam County. She was active with civic affairs concerning children and was a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
Surviving: daughter, Martha Rodriguez of Teays Valley; sons, David Everett Kimble of Shaker Heights, Ohio and John W. Kimble of St. Albans; brothers, James A. Miller of Cross Lanes; eight grandchildren.
Service was held October 5, 1999 at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J.D. Harrah and the Rev. Kevin Channell officiating. Burial was in Esta Miller Memorial Park, Red House. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Putnam County Library, 4219 State Route 34, Winfield WV 25213.

Doal E. King
Doal Edward King, 68, of Riverside, Texas, formerly of Putnam County, died July 28, 1999.
He was a native of Liberty and worked as a service manager. He was a veteran and a member of the United Methodist Church, the VFW and the Masons.
Surviving: wife, Betty Ingram King; daughter, Judi Bryan of Deer Park; sisters, Ethel Bonnett of Liberty, Elsie Finney of Charleston, Belva Beckner of Red House, and Wanda Wallace of Rocky Mountain, North Carolina; brother, Tom King of Booneboro, Maryland.
Service was held July 31, 1999 at Reeves Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Huntsville, with the Rev. Warren Austin officiating. Burial was in Reeves Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Larry T. Keeling
Larry T. “Peabody” Keeling, 64, of Hurricane died July 15, 1999, in the VA Hospital in Huntington.
He was a lifelong resident of Hurricane, a retired pipefitter, an Air Force veteran and a member of VFW Post 625 and the pipefitters union.
Surviving: daughters, Belinda Stevenson of Winfield and Deanna Keeling of Winter Haven, Florida; brothers, Charles of Scott Depot and Hugh “Bob” of Hurricane; two grandchildren.
A memorial service was held July 29, 1999 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Jim McGehee officiating.

Laura Bertha Kessel
Laura Bertha Kessel, 100, of Peytona WV died February 17, 1999 in Sunrise Care Center after a long illness.
She was a native of Putnam County and a member of Freewill Baptist Church of Peytona.
Surviving: several nieces and nephews.
Service was held at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with the Rev. Eugene Null officiating. Burial was in Pine View Cemetery, Orgas WV.

Grace A. Kerns
Grace A. Kerns, 91, of Pliny died March 9, 1999, in Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Pt. Pleasant, after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Union United Methodist Church.
Surviving: daughters, Anna Louise Michaels of Delaware, Ohio and Carletta Wears of Pliny; sons, John B. Kerns of Pliny and Paul D. Kerns of Southside; brothers, Virgil Woyan of Marysville, Ohio and Claude Woyan of East Liverpool, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Mount Union United Methodist Church with the Rev. Glen Lambert and the Rev. Charles Roush officiating. Burial was in Mount Union Cemetery. Chapman-Erskine Funeral Home, Winfield, was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Thomas F. King
The Rev. Thomas F. King, 83, of Red House died January 6, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
He was a retired iron worker and pastor of several local Baptist churches, including ones in Eleanor, Red House and Grandview. He was a lifelong resident of Putnam County and a member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church and Hometown Senior Citizens.
Surviving: wife, Agatha Kersey King; daughters, Phyllis Vogel of Winfield and Sue Jividen of Eleanor; sisters, Elizabeth Schempp of Melbourne, Florida, Helen Sawyer of Bonifay, Florida, Norma Jean Wright of Clearwater, Florida, and Mont Rose Asbury of Nitro; brothers, John King of Midway, Earl “Roster” King of Nitro, David and Bobby King of Tuitusville, Florida, and Jim King of Cape Canaveral, Florida; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Bruce Young and the Rev. Arles Covert officiating. Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery, Eleanor.

William H. Leadman
William Hope Leadman, 72, of Hurricane died November 26, 1999, in Heartland of Charleston after a long illness.
He was a mechanic and a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a graduate of St. Albans High School and a member of the VFW.
Surviving: daughters, Pamela Gaye Cooper of Letart and Teresa Hope Mullins of Big Chimney; sisters, Jean Sampson of St. Albans and Sue Lester of Hendersonville, Tennessee; four grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, was in charge of arrangements.

Mantie Lilly
Mantie Lilly, 88, of Scott Depot, formerly of Northfork, died November 8, 1999, at home after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and a member of Glad Tiding Church of God.
Surviving: daughters, Lois Greene of Columbia Station, Ohio, Nora Shugars of Atlanta, and Carol Joy Lucas of Scott Depot; sons, Lewis Edward of Sardis, Ohio, Ross Howard of Billings, Montana, and Jesse Paul of Lorain, Ohio; sister, Jane Adkins of Danville; brothers, Eli Pauley of Danville and Ike Pauley of Chapmanville; 25 grandchildren; 23 stepgrandchildren.
Service was held November 11, 1999 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Pastor Gary Coffee officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Pecks Mill.

Opal Pearl Lett
Opal Pearl Lett, 81, of Poca died October 14, 1999, at home.
She was a lifelong resident of Putnam County and a member of Rebekah Lodge 143 and the Hometown Senior Citizens choir. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Lett Creek Community Church.
Surviving: daughters, Shirley Ann “Pug” Beller, Judy Lynn Craigo, both of Poca, and Bonnie Sue Harrison of Hometown; son, Robert Gene of Poca; sisters, Mary Frances Gillispie and Julie Deweese of New Haven; brother, Glen Morgan of Poca; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Service was held October 16, 1999 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Paul Arthur and Pastor John McCoy officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.

Thelma Larabee
Thelma Larabee, 69, of Hurricane, formerly of Charleston, died September 21, 1999, at home after a long illness.
Surviving: daughters, Yvonne L. Mundy of Scott Depot and Lorraine G. Elswick of Charleston; sons, James E. and Daniel R. Larabee, both of South Carolina, and Arnold M. Larabee of Hurricane; sister, Mary Kessell of Liberty; brothers, Robert Brown of Charleston, Troy, Gene Ray, Johnny, Dennis, David and Alan Brown, all of Liberty; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Service was held September 24, 1999 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Sam Kinser officiating. Burial was in Brown Cemetery, Liberty.

Lula Agnes Livingston
Lula Agnes Livingston, 91, of Columbus died Sept. 13, 1999, at home after a long illness.
She was a native of Leon, WV, a homemaker, a former clerk at Keefer Grocery and a member of Creston United Methodist Church.
Surviving: sons, James A. of Orient; daughter, Doris R. Farmer of Columbus; brother, Lester Keefer of Leon; sister, Osa Merritt of Columbus; one grandson.
Services were held Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with the Rev. Gerald Sayre officiating. Burial in Creston Cemetery, near Evans.

Lloyd Houston Lowe
Lloyd Houston Lowe, 77, of Cross Lanes died Sept. 13, 1999, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.
He was retired from the South Charleston Treatment Plant, was a member of Cross Lanes United Methodist Church, a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of AFL-CIO.
Surviving: wife, Evelyn Null Lowe; daughter, Kathy Legg of Cross Lanes; sons, Lloyd W. of Charleston, Greg S. of Hurricane; sister, Betty Horvath of South Charleston; six grandchildren.
Service Wednesday, Sept. 15th, 1999, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, with the Rev. Daniel Fisher and the Rev. Aslam Barkat officiating.
Burial in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

Paul T. Luikart
Paul T. Luikart, 20, of Red House died August 28, 1999 from injuries received when the concrete truck he was driving ran off the road.
He was a graduate of Buffalo High School and employed by Valley Brook Concrete and Supply of Robertsburg.
Surviving: father, Paul R. Luikart of Red House; sister, Melinda Luikart Higgins of Red House; brother, Jamie Luikart of Red House; maternal grandmother, Melva Jividen Vannoy of Red House; paternal grandmother, Mae Covert Luikart of Red House; one nephew.
Service was held September 1, 1999 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Larry Covert and the Rev. Wayne Conley officiating. Burial was in Luikart-Maiden Cemetery, Red House.

Alonzo Loveless
Alonzo Loveless, 68, of Hurricane died September 1, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
He was a former employee of the state Department of Highways and Ashville Oil Co. He was a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Surviving: sons, Keith Alan and Patrick Eugene, both of Hurricane, Anthony Wayne and Rick Jason, both of St. Albans; brothers, Walter Loveless and Dennie Williams, both of St. Albans, and Lonnie Hoover of Buffalo, New York; sisters, the Rev. Juanita Eads and Elizabeth Pauley, both of South Charleston, and Minnie Clark of St. Albans; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson.
Service was held September 3, 1999 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Juanita Eads officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
