Ronald F. Miller
Ronald F. “Pete” Miller, 83, of Hurricane died February 8, 1999, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, after a long illness.
He was a member and elder of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church. He was retired co-owner and vice president of Tri-State Dental Depot Inc., Huntington, a former employee of Codesco Dental, Dental Supplies & Equipment and Ghiz Inc. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a Boy Scout leader and a member of VFW Post 1064, Huntington.
Surviving: wife, Ann Conner Miller; sons, Ronald P. Miller of San Diego and Scott D. Miller of Hurricane; sister, Clela Skeeters of Louisville, Kentucky; grandson, Austin Jacob Miller of Hurricane.
Service was held at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J.D. Harrah officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Susie Jean Nomar
Susie Jean Nomar, 36, of Buffalo died September 20, 1999 in General Division, CAMC, from injuries she received in an auto accident Sunday morning on W.Va. 62 near Red House. She was a passenger in a car driven by Jonathan Blankenship of Buffalo.
She was a beautician, a former employee of House of Dimitri and a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Charleston.
Surviving: daughters, Tosha Marie Nomar, Skyler Michelle Nomar and Starla Dawn Ramella, all at home; parents, Alfred and Shirley Morton Rectenwald of Holden Beach, North Carolina; brother, Rick Rectenwald of Hurricane; sister, Evie Young of Charleston.
Service was held September 22, 1999 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Zelik officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston. The family suggests donations to the Susie Nomar Children’s Fund, c/o One Valley Bank, Charleston WV.

Ruth V. Noffsinger
Ruth V. Noffsinger, 95, of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Belle and Leon WV, Yardley PA and Wheeler TX, died August 28, 1999, in the National Health Care Center, Murrells Inlet, after a long illness.
She was a native of Bancroft, West Virginia and a member of the United Methodist Church.
Surviving: sons, James F. of Yardley and Dick of Surfside Beach; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Service was held September 1, 1999 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Larry Walker officiating. Burial was in Winfield Cemetery.

William Blair Nichols
William Blair Nichols, 90, of Hurricane, formerly of Webster Springs, died July 13, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
He was a board member of Putnam County Aging Program, a member of Hurricane Senior Citizens and a retired electrical worker.
Surviving: sons, Ronald of Diana, Richard of Hurricane, and Robert of Port St. Lucie, Florida; daughter, Louise Comer of Hurricane; sister, Dorothy H. Johnson of Bayonet Point, Florida; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Service was held July 15, 1999 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Gary White officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Agnes M. Oxley
Agnes M. Oxley, 87, of Hurricane died December 3, 1999, at home after a long illness.
She was retired from Putnam County Board of Education, where she impelmented the first special education program for Putnam County. She attended Ascension Catholic Church and was a graduate of Morris Harvey College and received a master's degree from Marshall University.
She was a member of Delta Kapp Gamma sorority, Hurricane Woman's Club and the National Retired Teachers Association. She was a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
Surviving: daughter, Karin A. Riccardi of Charleston; son, L. thomas Oxley of Deerfield, Illinois; sisters, Emily Henson of Hurricane and Louela Henson of Winfield; grandchildren, Elizabeth oxley and John Riccardi.
Mass of Christian burial was held December 6, 1999 at Ascension Catholic Church with the Rev. J. Stephen Vallelonga officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary O’Brien
Mary Pritt O’Brien of Scott Depot died March 8, 1999, in the Putnam General Hospital Emergency Room after a long illness.
She was a former employee of Rite Aid, Nitro, and a member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Scott Depot, and Eastern Star Chapter 116.
Surviving: daughter, Nancy Huff of Scott Depot; son, James H. O’Brien of St. Albans; brother, Harold T. Pritt of Scott Depot; four grandchildren.
Service was held at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Pastor Bruce Young and the Rev. John Smith officiating. Entombment was in Cunningham Memorial Park Lower Mausoleum, St. Albans.

Jerry C. Parsons
Jerry C. Parsons, 57, of Poca died November 30, 1999, in General Division, CAMC, after a long illness.
He was retired from B&H Services and was a member of Scott Depot Christ Fellowship Church.
Surviving: wife, Rosalee Carter Parsons; son, Denver E. of Nitro; daughters, Kimberly Parsons of Ripley and Cindy Thompson of Ravenswood; sister, Judy Dean of Charleston; eight grandchildren.
Service was held December 2, 1999 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Rodney Taylor officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Scott Depot Christ Fellowship Church, PO Box 325, Scott Depot WV 25560.

Clayton Parsons
Clayton “Danny” Parsons, 46, of Leon died November 24, 1999, in Pleasant Valley Hospital, Pt. Pleasant, after a long illness.
He was a construction worker, an Army veteran, an 18-year resident of Leon, and a member of Elmwood Community Church, Leon. He was a member and vice president of Chariots of Fire Chapter of the Christian Motorcyclist Association.
Surviving: wife, Linda Parsons; daughters, Lee-Anna Bridges of Leon and Danielle Neddeau of Buffalo; son, Daniel Parsons of Leon; father and stepmother, Cecil and Leona Parsons of Red House; sister, Patricia Smith of Red House; brothers, Richard Parsons of Hurricane and David Parsons of Eleanor; stepsisters, Carla Boyd of Charleston and Kim Harvey of Fairborne, Ohio; six grandchildren.
Service was held November 28, 1999 at Elmwood Community Church with Pastor Jake McCartney officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Red House. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Chariots of Fire Chapter of the Christian Motorcyclist Association, Route 2 Box 513, Leon WV 25123.

Hilda Cary Peyton
Hilda Cary Peyton, 94, of Poca died September 25, 1999.
She was a lifelong resident of Poca, a member and Sunday school teacher at Poca United Methodist Church and a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Eastern Star. Her family owned and operated A.B. Cary’s General Store in Poca through the early 1940’s. Her late husband, Henry H. Peyton, was the first mayor for the town of Poca.
Surviving: daughters, Mary Elizabeth Peyton Chambers of Etna, New Hampshire and Lucy Cary Peyton Withrow of Charleston; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Service was held September 30, 1999 at Poca United Methodist Church with the Rev. Norvell Robertson officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Poca United Methodist Church, PO Box 516, Poca WV 25159.

Ruby H. Pullen
Ruby H. Pullen, 88, of Hurricane died Sept. 16, 1999, at home after a long illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Hurricane and a member of Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church and Hurricane Women’s Club.
Surviving: daughters, Illa Jayne Andrews and Arlene Pullen, both of Hurricane; brothers, Carl Conner of Georgia, Marvin Conner of Pennsylvania, Irvin Conner of Barboursville, Harley Conner of Tornado; one grandson.
Services were held Saturday, September 18th at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, Hurricane, with the Rev. Dan Hogan and the Rev. Charlie Thompson officiating. Burial in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Allen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Roscoe H. Peters
Roscoe H. Peters, 54, of Hurricane died September 6, 1999 in Putnam General Hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Peters, a native of Dunbar, was the owner of the R.H. Peters Chevolet dealership in Hurricane and a Ford dealership in South Point, Ohio.
Surviving: wife, Sandy; son, Roscoe H. Peters III of Dayton, Ohio; daughter, Carrie Jeannine Peters Scott of Michigan; granddaughter, Alexa Scott of Michigan.
Preston Funeral Home, Charleston, was in charge of arrangements.

I.J. Powell
I.J. Powell, 98, of Hurricane died August 8, 1999, at home after a short illness.
He was a retired superintendent of the McDowell County Board of Education with 38 years’ service and a member of St. John United Methodist Church, Scott Depot. He was a 1924 graduate of Marshall Unviersity and the oldest living Marshall football player. He was made an honorary coach after the teams’ most recent national championship.
Surviving: daughters, Ava Florence Crum, Louise Goode, Jay Powell O’Dell, Haley Goode and Caroline Goode, all of Hurricane; sons, Jonathan Powell O’Dell and Andrew O’Dell, both of Hurricane.
Service was held August 9, 1999 at St. John United Methodist Church with the Rev. Martin H. Hallett officiating. Private burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to St. John United Methodist Church, 4013 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot WV 25560.

Clyde B. Persinger
Clyde B. “Nen” Persinger, 74, of Black Betsy died July 31, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
He was retired from Laborers Local 1353, Charleston.
Surviving: daughters, Carolyn Jordan of Eleanor and Sherry Taylor of Cross Lanes; son, Herbert “Oakie” Persinger of Poca; mother, Hazel A. Persinger of Black Betsy; sisters, Reba Tucker of Pliny, Helen Jett of Avon Lake, Ohio and Posalie Perkins of Northwood, Ohio; brother, Charles Persinger of Culloden; four grandchildren.
Service was held August 3, 1999 at Big Cherry Cemetery, Poca, with the Rev. Carl Arthur officiating. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Nancy E. Parsons
Nancy Ellen Wyant Parsons, 48, of Bee Ridge, Robertsburg, died March 1, 1999, at home after an apparent heart attack.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving: husband, Jim Parsons; sons, James Steven and Kevin Lee, both at home; parents, William R. and Josephine Collins Wyant of Cowen; sisters, Mary Randolph of Cross Lanes and Becky Allen of Hurricane; brother, Jerry Wyant of Eleanor.
Service was held at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor John Taylor officiating. Burial was in Cross Creek Cemetery, Buffalo.

Ethel V. Payne
Ethel V. Payne, 76, of Hurricane died March 16, 1999 after a short illness.
Surviving: daughters, Rita Russell, Danette Rigsby and Sandra Sowards, all of Hurricane, Brenda Hedgecoth of Floral City, Fla.; sons, Wayne and David, both of Hurricane; brothers, David and Orvill Fooce, both of St. Albans; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, March 18, 1999 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Keniman Belcher officiating. Burial in Valley View Cemetery.

Amanda Marie Parsons, 10, Amber Nickole Parsons, 7, and Alejandra M. Santillan, 4, of Nitro died March 16, 1999, in a fire at their home.
Amanda and Amber were students at Rock Branch Elementary School and members of the Girl Scouts. The three girls were all members of Kelly’s Dance Studio in Cross Lanes. Amanda was a member of her school’s choir.
Surviving: stepfather and mother, Hector M. and Anna M. Santillan of Nitro; father of Amanda and Amber, Williams Parsons of St. Albans; maternal grandparents, David and Shawn O’Brien of Culloden, Edna and Frank Humphreys of Sissonville; paternal grandparents of Amanda and Amber, Williams and Bernice Parsons of Nitro; paternal grandparents of Alejandra, Alejandro and Alejandra Santillan-Sigala of Mexico; maternal great-grandmother, Regina O’Brien of Charleston; maternal great-great-grandmother, Minnie Harper of Sarasota, Florida.
Joint service was held Saturday, March 20, 1999, at Lighthouse Baptist Church, Hurricane, with Pastor Garry White officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Virginia Pancake
Mary Virginia “Jinky” Pancake, 81, of Hurricane, formerly of Pineville, died December 31, 1998, at home after a long illness.
She was a former supervisor of Child Welfare Service in Wyoming County. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Pineville, Teays Valley Newcomers Club, and the Pineville Garden Club.
Surviving: daughters, Sue P. Durbin of Hurricane and Beth Hays of Bluefield; two granddaughters, one great-grandson.
Memorial service was held St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Hurricane. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, Pineville, or Kanawha Hospice Care, Dunbar.

Belva O. Pitchford
Belva O. Pitchford, 91, of Red House died January 26, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Putnam County, a member of Emma Chapel United Methodist Church and attended Red House United Brethren Independent Church.
Surviving: sons, William L. of Red House, Richard G. of Dunbar, Arnold G. of Thurman, Ohio, Carl E. of Sissonville, and Delbert R. of Eleanor; sister, Bessie Tomlinson of Eleanor; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Emma Chapel United Methodist Church, Liberty, with Pastor Joe Hutchinson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

George A. Ransom
George A. Ransom, 81, of Scott Depot died November 30, 1999, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a short illness.
He attended Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene. He was a retired assistant secretary and treasurer from Union Carbide Corp. headquarters, New York City, with 44 years' service, beginning his career with Union Carbide in South Charleston.
Surviving: daughters, Carolyn Pennington of Hurricane, Nancy Colombo of Nazareth, Pennsylvania and Sandra Greene of Maumelle, Arizona; son, G. Roland Ransom of West Chesterfield, New Hampshire; brothers, Ransford W. Ransom of Hurricane and Gerald G. Ransom of St. Albans; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Charles V. Williams officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1221-A Ohio Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Samuel S. Rizk
Samuel S. Rizk, 61, of Scott Depot died December 13, 1999, at home after a short illness.
He was owner of Safety & Health Consultants Inc., Scott Depot, a member of Good Shepherd Southern Baptist, Scott Depot, a board member and instructor for the American Red Cross, an instructor for the American Heart Association, board member of Putnam County Solid Waste Authority and the Regional Contracting Assistance Center, past president of Putnam County Chapter 4448, AARP, and past state director. He was a soccer referee instructor, board member of USSF, president of Southern West Virginia Amateur Soccer League, FIFA soccer official and state assessors, a past member of the American Chemical Society, National Safety Council, Gideons Christians International, American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, American Industrial Hygienist Association, Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, a member of International Rotary, Kiwanis and American Management Association.
Surviving: wife, Sally Butler Rizk; sister, Freda Sirianir Rizk of Cairo, Egypt; brothers, Nagi Sirianir Rizk and Ishak Sirianir Rizk, both of Malden.
Service was held December 16, 1999 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Pastor Kenny Stidham officiating. Burial was in Judson Baptist Church Cemetery, Bills Creek, Winfield. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Dolores J. Rairden
Dolores Jane Rairden, 75, of Winfield died November 30, 1999, in Memorial Division, CAMC, from complications after an automobile accident.
She was a member of Winfield Baptist Church and a former employee of Pontiac (Michigan) Motors.
Surviving: sons, Frank Rairden of Winfield, Howard Rairden of Gregory, Michigan and Steven Greg Rairden of St. Albans; sister, Mildred Hodges of Winfield; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
Service was held December 3, 1999 at Winfield Baptist Church with Doug McComas officiating. Burial was in Winfield Cemetery. Chapman-Erskine Funeral Home, Winfield, was in charge of arrangements.

Joshua B. Rowh
Joshua B. Rowh, 17, of Liberty died December 14, 1999, in West Virginia University Hospital, Morgantown, of complications from heart surgery.
He was a lifelong resident of Bowles Ridge, a senior at Poca High School, a former employee of Arby's, Nitro, and a member of Paradise Church of God Mission. He was enrolled at Putnam County Vocational and Technical School.
Surviving: parents, Jeffrey and Janet Rowh; sister, Jessica Rowh of Bowles Ridge; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Bailey of Nitro; paternal grandparents, Max and Josie Rowh of Cross Lanes; paternal great-grandparents, Sanford and Irene Bailey of Cross Lanes.
Service was held December 17, 1999 at Rock Branch Independent Church, Nitro, with Pastor Delbert Hap,ey officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.
