Justin Matthew Tenpenny, 24, of Scott Depot died September 18, 1999 after a short illness.
He was a graduate of Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He was a graduate of Winfield High School and a 19-year resident of Scott Depot.

Bernard J. Tierney
Bernard J. Tierney, 84, of Hurricane died August 29, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
He was a retired chemical operator from DuPont.
Surviving: daughters, Carolyn Tierney, Kay Tierney and Barbara Godwin, all of Scott Depot; sisters, Eleanor Mitchell of Charleston, Bernice Williams of Virginia Beach, and Helen Hatch of Richmond, Virginia; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Orville C. Thornton
Orville C. “Tim” Thornton, 83, of Liberty died August 14, 1999, at the home of his daughter, Linda Bailey of Red House, after a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Liberty, a former mechanic at George Joseph’s Garage, a former auto body repairman, a member of Bowles Ridge Community Church, Liberty, and was coordinator of church services at Wingate Apartments with 14 years’ service.
Additional survivors: stepdaughter, Karen Baker of Poca; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Arthur L. Terry
Arthur L. Terry, 81, of Poca died July 31, 1999, at home after a long illness.
He was retired from American Electric Power.
Surviving: wife, Ada Terry; sisters, Joyce Robinson of St. Albans, Ruth Hayes of Marietta, Ohio, and Hope Richardson of Charleston; brothers, Granville Terry of St. Albans and Clifton Terry of Santa Claus, Indiana.

John F. Thomas
John F. Thomas, 86, of Poca died July 18, 1999, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Poca, retired from FMC/Ohio Apex, Nitro, with 38 years’ service. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the 82nd Airborne Glider Division. He attended Lett Creek Community and was a member of Hometown Senior Citizens.

Gloria J. Thompson
Gloria J. Thompson, 69, of Hurricane, formerly of Charleston, died July 15, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
She was retired from the West Virginia Consolidation Retirement Board. She was a former employee of Libby-Owens-Ford Glass Co. and Cohen, and a member of Winfield Presbyterian Church.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law with whom she resided, Deborah A. and Roger Lanham of Hurricane; brothers, Charles Baria of Rand, Robert Baria of Cross Lanes and Paul Baria of Charleston; sisters, Julia Elliott of Pomeroy, Ohio, Loretta McCray of South Charleston, Betty McConnel of Kingsport, Tennessee, Mary Campbell of Scott Depot, and Sue Webb of Tennessee; stepsister, Carol Fuller of Anaheim, California; one grandson; one great-granddaughter.
Service was held July 19, 1999 at Winfield Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Max Perrow officiating. Entombment was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, was in charge of arrangements.
Harry Tupis Jr.
Harry Tupis Jr., 72, of Hurricane, formerly of Kanawha City, died February 16, 1999, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was a retired receiving clerk from Kroger Warehouse with 45 years of service. He was a eucharistic minister of the Catholic Church of the Ascension and a member of Mary Ingle Trail Club, Knights of Columbus and Moose Lodge 565, Nitro. He was a former board member of Kemba Credit Union and a World War II Naval Reserve/Seabees veteran, retired with 45 years of service.
Surviving: wife, Judy C. Potts Tupis; daughters, Jane Beasley of Richmond, Virginia, Tammy Cavender of Dunbar, and Denise L. Johnson of Hurricane; son, Mark Tupis of Kanapolis, North Carolina; sisters, Stella Kalispelli of Montana and Anna “Nancy” Fiala of Concord, Ohio; brother, Pete Tupis of Stollings; five grandchildren.

Judy E. Tribble
Judy E. Hartley Tribble, 58, of Hurricane died March 3, 1999, in General Division, CAMC, after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Robert J. Thrift III
Robert James Thrift III, 60, of Scott Depot died January 28, 1999, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on I-64 at Institute.
He was a member of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church and Flintlock Rifle Club. He was a 15-year resident of Scott Depot. He was a retired highway designer, a former employee of the West Virginia Division of Highways with 30 years’ service and a former employee of Baker Engineering.
Surviving: wife, Cheryl Manypenny Thrift; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Thrift of Morgantown; son, Britt Phillips Thrift of Fayetteville; stepson, Shawn Justin Corley at home; stepdaughter, Ashley Elizabeth Corley at home; sister, Barry Thrift Brown of Chester, New Jersey.
Service was held at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J.D. Harrah and the Rev. kevin Channell officiating. Burial was in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Thomas Roy VanNatter
Thomas Roy VanNatter, 30, of Hurricane died October 9, 1999 in Huntington.
He was a graduate of Airport High School, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and an employee of Netwyred LLC.

Mahulda Vance-Alford
Mahulda Belle Vance-Alford, 80, of Hurricane died July 25, 1999, at home.
She was a housewife and a member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church and Eastern Star.

John Robert Weddington
John Robert “Bud” Weddington, 76, of Hurricane died November 20, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, after a long illness.
He was retired from Avtex Fiber and was an Army veteran.

Gallie R. Witt
Gallie R. Witt, 75, of Red House died November 12, 1999, at home.
He was a lifelong resident of Red House. He was retired from FMC, Nitro, and was a former assistant fire chief of Route 34 Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America.

Charles T. “Tom” Williams, 59, of Leon died October 23, 1999, at home after a short illness.
He was a retired truck driver from Charleston Construction with 25 years’ service.

Harold Edward Womack
Harold Edward Womack, 69, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Hurricane, died October 25, 1999, at home.
He was retired from Chrysler Corp. with 12 years of service.

Emogene “Jean” Dale Wooten
Emogene “Jean” Dale Wooten, age 74, of Culloden, died Monday, October 11, 1999, in Teays Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was a lifelong resident of the area, former employee of Turnbull Buick, and a member of Union Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Maxie Wooten; three sons, Larry Wooten of Ona, W.Va, Jackie Wooten of Barboursville, and Dan Wooten of Huntington; one sister, Bertha Buckner of Milton, W.Va.; two brothers, Forrest Villars of Barboursville, W.Va., and Berk Villars of Culloden; five grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside service were held Thursday, October 14, 1999 at Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane, W.Va. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.
Recie Bell Ward
Recie Bell Ward, 88, of St. Albans died October 14, 1999, in Sun Bridge Care & Rehabilitation Center, Dunbar, after a long illness.
She was a native of Putnam County and a 64-year resident of St. Albans.

She was a member of Poca Baptist Church and was retired from A.W. Cox Department Store, St. Albans.

Ardelle L. Workman
Ardelle L. Workman, 93, of San Diego, formerly of Nitro, WV, died Sept. 9, 1999 at the home of her daughter, Elizabeth “Susie” Blase of San Diego, after a long illness.
She was a retired cook from Nitro Junior High School, a member of Nitro Church of God and a former cook at Diehl’s Restaurant and ben Franklin, both in Nitro, and Bobby Brooks Cafeteria.
Also surviving: daughter, Lavinia Hoffman of Nitro; brother, Ray Barrickman of Nitro; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Scott Depot and a homemaker.

He was a lifelong resident of Putnam County, retiring from Monsanto Co. with 37 years’ service. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member and elder of Eleanor Presbyterian Church, a member of Eleanor VFW Post 4400, American Legion Post 0200, Charleston, Junior O.U.A. Mechanics, St. Albans, and Eleanor Lions Club.

He was a retired track foreman for the C&O Railway.
