Eva Roberts Borden, 71, of Tampa, FL, died May 15th, 1999 at home after a long illness. She was a native of Milton. She served in the U.S. Air Force and was a former employee of the U.S. Government. Surviving: Daughter, Paula Cecil, and granddaughter, Angie Borden, of Tampa, FL; brother, Ford Roberts of Lewisburg; sister, Helen Gentry, of Milton. Graveside service was held May 18th in Tampa.

Joe Max Black, 64, of Huntington, widower of Sally Anne Barrett Black, died Sunday in St. Mary’s Hospital. He was a former employee of Owens-Illinois, Huntington. Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Comere of California; one son, Weldon Woodrow “Butch’ Black of Ohio; his mother, Viola Kissinger Black of Hurricane; five sisters, Deloris Ann Egnor of Culloden, Donna Grimmitt of Orlando, Fla., Marsha Laverty of Milton, Merla Drause of Lake Placid, Fla., and Nancy Gonzales of Toledo, Ohio; and four brothers, Jackie Lee Black of Albany, Ga., William Woodrow Black Jr. of Temperance, Mich., Gary David Black of Reno. Nev., and Roger Keith Black of Wyoming. Funeral was held Wednesday at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Heck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Betty Ruth Fleckles Budd
Betty Ruth Fleckles Budd, 67, of Ona, wife of Francis J. Budd, died Thursday at her residence. She was a former secretary for the Elks Magazine. Additional survivors include two sons, Francis J. "Frank" Budd of Hurricane and Kenneth William Budd of Levittown, N.Y.; and one brother, Robert Fleckles of Berwin, Pa. Funeral Sunday at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. EDITH H. BILLUPS
Mrs. Edith H. Billups, age 90, of Huntington, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were held Friday April 2, by Rev. Keith Creasy at Woodmere Cemetery Abbey of Remembrance. She was born May 30, 1908 in Summers County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Lonnie and Sarah A. Upton Lilly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Billups, two sisters, Esta Lilly Galloway and Marie Lilly Goodwin. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Katricia and Jack Molter of Huntington, two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry G. and Margie Billups of Lesage, and Ronnie 0. and Carol Billups of Huntington. Eight grandchildren, Michael Billups and Jason Billups, Sharlene Galbraith, Debbie Slack, Rick Billups and Rocky Billups, and Greg Molter, and Jeff Molter. Nine great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Lena Lilly Hunter of Huntington, Eula Lilly Bliffen Galprin of Clearwater, Fla., Alma Lilly Jones of Huntington. There was no visitation. Beard Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Clinton C. Chapman
Clinton C. Chapman, 86, of Fraziers Bottom, husband of Genevieve Phelps Chapman, died Friday December 3, 1999 in Valley Health Village, South Charleston. He was retired from Huntington Alloys as a line foreman. Also surviving are two daughters, Janice Mooney of St. Albans and Sara Cordero of Sunrise, Fla.; two sons, Randall Chapman of Winchester, Va., and Steven Chapman of Streetsboro, Ohio; three sisters, Reba Forth of Milton, Marina Runyon of Huntington and Freda Gibson of Hurricane; and one brother, Woodrow Chapman of Milton. Funeral was held Tuesday at Winfield Church of Christ; entombment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Glen Cash
Glen Cash, 91, of Indian Rocks Beach, FL, formerly of Milton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 4,1999. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 7 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Jackie D. Clark officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Glen was born in Lincoln Co. on Dec. 17, 1907. He was one of nine children of the late William and Annie Alford Cash. Glen was also preceded in death by a son, Darrell Glen Cash and on Nov. 25,1995 by his wife, Ena Childers Cash. He was a retired Milton businessman and retired from Plumbers and Fitters Local 521, Huntington. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David R And Connie Cash of Indian Rocks Beach, FL; two granddaughters, Robin Cash of Largo, FL and Lorri Hughes of Milton; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Sarah Hughes; and a brother, Denver Cash of Griffithsville. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Icle A. Chapman
Icle A. Chapman, 86, of Ona, widow of Asa E. Chapman, died Monday, November 15, 1999. Survivors include three sons, Mack Chapman of Medina, Ohio, Okey Chapman of Milton and Jimmie Chapman of Proctorville, Ohio; and three daughters, Eloise Miller of Cleveland, Janet Day of Huntington and Judith Jarrell of Huntington. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 17, 1999 at Beard Mortuary; burial in Blue Sulphur Cemetery.

James Michael Christian
On Tuesday, October 26,1999, James Michael Christian, beloved son, brother, uncle, friend and teacher, went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer. Michael was born on July 8, 1965, in Boone County, WV. Michael was a teacher for Lincoln County Schools for the past twelve years. He has touched the lives of many, many beautiful children that he loved dearly. Michael was named Lincoln County Teacher of the Year in 1993-1994. He was a member of the Center Point United Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, directed Christmas plays, directed past youth groups and organized Vacation Bible School for many years. He was also involved with the United Baptist Youth Organization and Camp. Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Queen of Boone County, and Mrs. Fannie Christian of Chapmanville. He was also preceded in death by a loving uncle, Mr. Ardel Queen of Boone County. He is survived by a loving family who will miss him very much, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William and Mary Queen Christian of Barboursville; one brother, Mr. Billy Christian of Barboursville; two sisters, Miss Tammy Christian and her friend, Mr. Tom McGuire, of West Hamlin, Mrs. Patti Porter and her husband, Lee, of Milton; one nephew, Corey Shane Christian; two nieces, Mary Catherine “Cati” Christian and Cassie Shauna Porter; a host of friends, Sally Smith, Kevin Young, the Conrad Family and many, many others. Funeral services were conducted Friday, October 29, 1999, at the Center Point United Baptist Church by the Rev. Farris Burton, the Rev. William Hughes Jr., Paul Hill, and Sheila Burns. Burial in Enon Cemetery.

Mrs. Cuma Cremeans
Mrs. Cuma Cremeans, 78, of Huntington passed away Friday, November 5, 1999. at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 8, 1999, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Walter Adkins and Rev. Russell Donahue. Burialin Green Valley Cemetery. She was born February 6, 1921, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Shem and Ida Bias Hatfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Cremeans and one daughter, Dora Jean Cremeans. She was a member of Madison United Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Dorcas Church of Proctorville, Ohio, and Kay and Jerry Baker of Salt Rock, WV.; four sisters, Violet Love and Reva Childers, both of Huntington and Ruby Ross and Virginia McCormick, both of Barboursville; four grandchildren and their spouses, Lenny and Kim Church of Pittsburgh, Jill and Chris Sharp of Lavalette, Melanie and Mark Hankins of Salt Rock and Lori Baker of Salt Rock; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Church, Quinn Hankins and Lauren Elizabeth Sharp.

John Henry Collins
John Henry Collins, 76, of Huntington, WV, passed away Thursday, Oct. 14,1999, at his home. Private graveside services were conducted in Culloden Cemetery, Culloden, WV, by the Rev. Bill Chapman. John was born at Huntington on Feb. 8, 1923. He was a son of the late Miles Allen and Lottie Flossie Cremeans Collins. John was a retired bricklayer. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Roberts Collins; his son John H. Collins Jr.; his grandson John Michael Collins; a sister, Evia Campbell; and a favorite niece, Paula Cremeans, all of Huntington. There was no visitation. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

L. Atchley Childers
L. Atchley Childers, 79, of Salt Rock, WV, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 20,1999. Funeral services were conducted Friday, October 22, 1999, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Minister David Templeton. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. He was born May 22, 1920, in Salt Rock, WV, a son of the late Henry Clay and Edith Adkins Cedars. He was preceded in death by one brother, Haskell C. “Johnny” Childers, and one sister, Irene Childers Jones. He was a Christian and a member of the Merritts Creek Church of Christ, a merchant for 54 years and owner and operator of Childers General Store, Salt Rock, a member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of West Hamlin for 20 years, a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Minerva Lodge, #13 A.F. & A.M., Barboursville, a member of the Beni Kedem Temple, Scottish Rite Valley of Huntington, Grand Chapter #10 R.A.M., Order of Kentucky Colonels, Order of Eastern Star, #106, Hamlin and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He is survived by his loving wife, Alpha Jane Hamilton Childers; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Donald Ross of Salt Rock; two beloved grandsons, Craig and Chris Ross; one brother, Carnis Childers of Salt Rock; one sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Junior Triplett of Salt Rock; a brother-in-law, James N. Jones of Denver, CO; one sister-in-law, Betty Childers of Salt Rock; four nieces, Patty Day, Laura Kasey, Judy Naze and Jana Triplett. He leaves behind a great number of family and friends. Masonic graveside services were conducted by Minerva Lodge, #13. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Ora Ann Cooper
Ora Ann Cooper, 88, of Milton W.Va., went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999 at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Sept. 20, 1999 at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Clark officiating. Burial in the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Milton W.Va. A daughter of the late Lee and Etta Holley Blake, she was born Nov. 5, 1910 in Milton, WV. She was a retired cook for the Cabell County Board of Education. She worked 19 years at Milton High School. She was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church since 1926. She loved and helped everyone. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Cooper on Nov. 17, 1974; seven brothers, one sister, and three grandsons, Victor, Stephen and Doug Cooper. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Clyde and Carolyn Cooper of Milton, W.Va, and Boyd M. Cooper of Worthington, Ohio; five grandchildren, Veronica, Eddie, Mark, Michelle, and Tonya; five great-grandchildren, and many more friends and loved ones. Albert H. “Tony” Chaffin
Albert H. “Tony” Chaffin, 67, of Barboursville, widower of Judith Ann Chaffin, died Tuesday, September 7, 1999 in Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, Huntington. Survivors include two daughters, Amy Louise Eaves of Huntington and Tonya Irene Purcell of Emerald Isle, N.C.; two sons, Bruce Albert Chaffin of Huntington and Seth Allan Chaffin of Barboursville; one sister, Pat Ray of Barboursville; and one brother, Billy Jack Chaffin of Barboursville. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Cledith Lee Chapman
The Rev. Cledith Lee Chapman, 79, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Newton Crockett and Rev. Sonny Sovine. Burial in Forest Memorial Park. He was born July 18, 1920 in Cabell County, a son of the late Lee and Luna Morrison Chapman. He was a construction worker and a member of Valley of Decision Church. He was also the founder of the Starlight Gospel Sing. He was also preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Lauren Ashley Crum and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Johnson Chapman; two daughters, Jean Bowen of Huntington and Kandi Harmon of Proctorville, Ohio; four sons, Truman Chapman and his wife Donna, Rick Chapman, Tim Chapman and his wife Brenda G., all of Milton, Michael D. Chapman and his wife Debra Lynn of Salt Rock; one sister, Lenora Bailey of Barboursville; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two special friends, Linda Brumfield and Jack Devore.

Carroll Lewis “Johnny’ Chapman
Carroll Lewis “Johnny” Chapman, 65, of Salt Rock, WV departed this life Friday, Aug. 20, 1999 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington after a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted 2p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Rev. Winford A. Curry officiating. Burial followed in Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock. Johnny was born in Cabell Co. on Sept. 7, 1933. He was a son of the late Osle Lewis and Maude Ann Bledsoe Chapman. Johnny was also preceded in death by one brother, Elmo and one grandson, Jeffery Allen Meadows. He was retired from the WV Department of Highways. He is survived by his wife, Betty Vititoe Chapman; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy Ann and Daniel Meadows of Salt Rock; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Lee and Leslie Chapman of Salt Rock and Jack Glen and Teresa Chapman of Barboursville; four grandchildren, Mary and James Chapman and Emily and Laura Chapman; one sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Wyatt Bledsoe of Salt Rock; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Mavis Chapman, Osle Junior and Veda Chapman and Raymond Lee and Patty Chapman all of Salt Rock and Gilmer Odell and Dorothy Chapman of Barboursville; his mother-in-law, Frances Johnson Vititoe of Barboursville.

Ralph W. Childers
Ralph W. Childers, 82, of Sebring, FL, formerly of Mansfield, OH, passed away Saturday, August 7, 1999 in Sebring, FL. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, August 11, 1999 at the Baylous Cemetery by Rev. Rick Brown. He was born April 25, 1917, in Salt Rock, WV, a son of the late Joseph and Valeria Curry Childers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Elizabeth Matthews Childers. He is survived by three nieces, Phyllis Burton, Sheila Plumley and Deborah Hoff; four nephews, Ross White Jr, Gary White, Bill Childers, and Joe Childers. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville was in charge of arrangements.

Steven Michael Crookshanks
Steven Michael Crookshanks, 48 of Milton, WV, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, WV, after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 30, at Heck Funeral Home,.Milton with the Rev. David Thomas officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Steve was born at Milton, WV, on Dec. 24, 1950. He was the son of Mareta Lilly Crookshanks of Milton and the late Jack Crookshanks. He was a member of Union Baptist Church, Milton and a former employee of Union Carbide, South Charleston and a former member of the Army National Guard. Steve was a 1968 graduate of Milton High School, an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a former president of the Tri-State Youth Football League and the Milton Youth Baseball League. Steve was the 1989 recipient of the Connie Blake Award for outstanding contribution to youth awarded by the Milton Little League. Survivors in addition to his mother are four sons and two daughters-in-law, Todd and Amy Crookshanks of Hurricane, Chad and Calley Crookshanks of Lesage, Chris Crookshanks and Jeremy Crookshanks both of Milton; one sister, Brenda Kay Martin of Huntington; and a special friend, Lea White of Hurricane.

Cora Ruth Kirtley Carter
Cora Ruth Kirtley Carter, 77, of Milton, wife of James Carter, died Saturday, June 26, 1999 at her residence. She was a homemaker. Survivors include one daughter, Regina Fetty of Milton; and two sons, Riley Carter of Milton and Jeffery Ray Carter of Culloden. Funeral Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; burial in Forest Memorial Park.

Lonnie Lewis Clagg
Mr. Lonnie Lewis Clagg, 77, of Milton, WV, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at his home. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, July 15 at the Bias Chapel, Milton, of which he was a member, by the Rev. Caudle Adkins and the Rev. Windell Shull. Burial in the church cemetery. Lonnie was born at Milton on Mar. 20, 1922. He was a son of the late Lewis Ville and Missouri Edmonds Clagg. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers. Lonnie was a retired assistant supervisor for the WV Division of Highways. He is survived by his wife, Goldie Edwards Clagg; one daughter and son-in-law, Connie Ann and Darrell Shull of Milton; and three grandchildren, Jeff Shull, Lisa Shull and Ricky Shull. Heck Funeral Home, Milton was in charge of arrangements.

Homer Lawrence Chapman
Homer Lawrence Chapman, 74, of Huntington, husband of Betty Ann Roy Chapman, died Monday in St. Mary’s Hospital. Additional survivors include one daughter, Laura Adkins of Huntington; one son, Homer L. Chapman III of Marietta, Ga.; one sister, Garnet Harless of Culloden; one half brother, Virgil “Butch” Chapman of Ona; and one half sister, Alberta Adams of Barboursville. Chapman’s Mortuary was in charge of arrangements; burial in Chapman Family Cemetery.

Edward Kelly Chapman
Edward Kelly Chapman, 86, of Barboursville, died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 16,1999, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Pastor Carl Merritt. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born August 23, 1912, in Barboursville, a son of the late Guy and Mary Lawrence Chapman. He was retired from the Naval Ordnance Plant in South Charleston and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters. He is survived by one brother, Lawrence Washington “Doc” Chapman of Ona and several nieces and nephews. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. V.F.W. Post #9738, Guyandotte, conducted military graveside rites.

HAZEL V. BILLS CREMEANS

Hazel V. Bills Cremeans, 79 of Justice, WV, formerly of Salt Rock, died Saturday, March 27, 1999, in Logan General Hospital ,after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Salt Rock, by the Rev. Bob Adkins and the Rev. Zachary Bills. Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery. She was born April 12, 1919; in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Arnold Lee and Letha Beckett Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Bills, four brothers, four sisters, and one grandson. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include six daughters, Jewell Bias, Verna Miller, Linda Holton, Carolyn Sue .Mullins, Charlotte Ratcliff, and Barbara Adkins; three sons, Clifford Bills, Dan Bills and Ted Bills, one sister, Eva Berry; one brother, Arnold L. Walker Jr.; 33 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, friends, nieces, and nephews; and special friends, Lucille Nelson, Phyllis Harless and Donna Gue. Pallbearers were Teddy Adkins;, Robbie Holton, Bud Midkiff, Kenneth Miller, Todd Mullins, and Greg Nida. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Newman and Chip Nida. EARL AVINEL CHAPMAN
Earl Avinel Chapman, 83, of Barboursville, W.Va., passed away Sunday, April 25, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Cyrus Creek Missionary Baptist Church by Pastor Bob Ray. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born April 14, 1916, in Cabell County, a son of the late Aubrey E. and Ethel Hash Chapman. He was a retired employee of Union Carbide, a member of Cyrus Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Belle Chapman and one grandson, Gary E. "Buddy" Chapman. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary E. and Thelma Chapman of Barboursville; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Billie June and Milford Mosley of Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Mac Chapman and Glen Chapman, both of Barboursville; five grandchildren, Stephan Chapman of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Stacy Thomas of Proctorville, Ohio, Stephanie Dorsey of Huntington, Jeremy and Jessica Chapman, both of Barboursville; four great-grandchildren, Aaron Thomas, Samantha Thomas, Corey Dorsey and Stephanie Dorsey. Hattie Barrett Maynard Campbell, 93, of Hurricane, wife of Paul W. Campbell, died Monday, April 5, 1999, in Charleston Area Medical Center General Division. She was a former medical records administrator for Kanawha Valley Hospital. Survivors include one son, Jon Leslie V. Maynard of Pickerington, Ohio; one sister, Esther McKinney of Griffithsville; and one brother, Billy Joe Barrett of Hurricane. Funeral services were held Friday, April 9, 1999 at Heck Funeral Home. Burial in Forest Memorial Park.

Jack Crookshanks, 70, of Milton, WV, passed away Friday, Mar. 26, 1999, at his home after a year long illness. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Mar. 30, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Jerry Warren officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Jack was born Mar. 11, 1929, at Charleston, WV. He was the son of the late Lorain L. and Texie V. Lilly Crookshanks. Jack was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Alberta Cummings Crookshanks. He was retired from Union Carbide, South Charleston. Jack is survived by his wife, Mareta Crookshanks; one daughter, Brenda Kay Martin of Huntington, one son, Steven Michael Crookshanks of Milton; one sister, Virginia Scott of Indianapolis, IN and six grandchildren, Todd Crookshanks and wife, Amy of Hurricane, Chad Crookshanks and wife, Calley of Huntington, Chris and Jeremy Crookshanks, both of Milton, Amy M. Bock and husband, Tommy of Tenn:, and Stephanie Martin of Milton.

Mildred Chapman
Mildred Chapman, 72, of Barboursville, WV, wife of Glen Chapman, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 5, 1999, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Pastor Carl Merritt. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Mildred was born November 29, 1926, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Harry and Tressie Carter Morrison. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Morrison. She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Chapman of Lynchburg, VA, Diana Stoler and her special friend, Eddie Russell, of Barboursville, and Connie and Jim Morrison of Chesapeake, OH; one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Carolyn Chapman of Milton, WV; two sisters, Jean Coates of Huntington, and Barb Carter of Huntington; one brother, Richard Carter of Huntington; two brothers-in-law, Jim Coates and Mac Chapman; four sisters-in-law, Crary Carter, Rosemary Morrison, Pauline Chapman, and Polly Chapman; seven grandchildren, Tina Chapman, Nikki Gutierrez, Melanie Smith, Amy MacPherson, Billy and Crystal Browning, and Amanda Chapman; six great-grandchildren, Aaron and Savannah Carroll, Ashley Gutierrez, T.J. and Garrett MacPherson and Austin Chapman. She is also survived by special friends, Hazel Kelly and Clifford and Barb McCommas.

Elbert O'Neal Cooper
Elbert O'Neal Cooper, 80, of Milton, widower of Mary Porter Cooper, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, in Columbia Putnam General Hospital, Hurricane. He was a retired employee of Houdaille Industries, Huntington. Survivors include four daughters, Yvonne Butler of Glenwood, Sheila Ashworth of Letart, Sandra Cooper Coffin of Leavenworth, Kan., and Darlene Scarberry of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, Keith Cooper of Knightstown, Ind.; and four sisters, Lona Frances Bias and Bonnie McCoy, both of Huntington, Jewell Meadows of Milton and Joyce Wilson of Ashton. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 9th, at Heck Funeral Home; burial in Enon Cemetery. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Ann “Trish” Clagg
Patricia Ann “Trish” Clagg, 43, of Milton, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Thursday, May 13, 1999 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, W.Va., after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 15 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Rev. Claude Adkins officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Trish was born at Huntington on March 31, 1956. She was the daughter of Everett Junior and Anna Ruth Stratton Clagg of Milton. Trish attended Bias Chapel, Milton. She was a graduate of Milton High School and the Marshall University schools of education and nursing. Trish was a former teacher at Williamson Elementary School and was a registered nurse for Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston with 15 years of service. Additional survivors are her paternal grandfather, Albert Clagg of Milton; aunts, uncles and cousins. Pallbearers were Chuck Chapman, Tony Davis, Jeff Wise, James Chapman, Larry Stratton and Clarence Stratton. The family suggests that memorials be made to the family to help defer medical expenses in lieu of flowers.

Joe L. Clay
Joe L. Clay, 84, of Huntington, died Friday, May 14, 1999, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 17, 1999, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Pastor Alan Poe. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born July 11, 1914, in Logan County, a son of the late Jackson and Emma Kirk Clay. He attended Christ Community Church of Huntington. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ada Baker Clay; one son, Willis Clay; two sisters, Daisy Johnson and Ethel Spurlock; and two brothers, Virgil Clay and Charles Clay. He is survived by one daughter, Jean Cremeans of Wayne; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Clay of Buckhannon; two sisters, Wanda Jones of Huntington and Sadie Heller of San Jose, California; two brothers, Walter Clay of San Jose, Calif., and Harold Clay of Paducah, Ky.; three grandchildren, Bryan Cremeans and his wife Lura of Huntington, Steven Clay and Natalie Clay, both of Buckhannon; two beloved great-granddaughters, Michelle and Erin Cremeans of Huntington; two special sisters-in-law, Thelma Wilson and Odra Baker; and a very special friend of the family, Patty Crabtree. Wallace Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Huntington for their very special care and kindness.

Austin Richard Dent
Austin Richard Dent, 86, died Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 25,1999, at his home in Ona, W.Va. Dent was a retired welding engineer and is survived by his wife, Lillianne; his daughter, Marilyn Morgan of Sandy, Utah; his granddaughters, Lynn Morgan of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Lori Flood and her husband, Chuck, of Oberlin, Ohio; two stepsons, T.R. Massey and his wife, Angela, and son, Ryan, of Columbus, Ohio, and Tyler Massey and his wife, Tara, and daughter, Lily Grace; and his stepdaughter, Claire Massey, all of Huntington. He also had two great-grandsons, Cody and Campbell. He is also survived by a very special brother-in-law, George P. Davis III of Fairmont, W.Va.; and a special sister-in-law, Deb Swanson and her husband, Jerry, of Beckley, W.Va. He was born in Berwick, Pa., on May 19,1913, the youngest son of Ralph Ivy Dent and Florence Hunsinger Dent. His first trade after formal education was meat cutting. Following a move to Philadelphia, he became involved with welding and took a job with the American Car and Foundry. Following World War II, he moved to St. Charles, Mo., then to Huntington where he researched, among other things, a rail car delivery system for nuclear missiles. He began to work for Wilson Welding in 1971, where he was a welding engineer and customer rep.
After retiring from welding a decade later, he and his wife, Lillianne, founded the Carpet Ladies, a retail flooring store that they operated in Barboursville until 1993. He worked at McDonald's at the Huntington Mall for the last six years where he liked to say he did “P.R. work.” During his life, Austin was a member of the Elks Club, Moose Club, a 32nd Degree Mason, a volunteer fireman and played semi-pro football. He was active in the Bethesda United Methodist Church in Ona for 25 years and sang in the choir. Throughout his life, he proved himself a jack of all trades, accomplished carpenter and a man willing to take on new challenges.
Austin donated his body to medical research at the Marshall University School of Medicine Human Gift Registry. A memorial service, in his honor, was held on Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at Bethesda United Methodist Church, Yates Crossing, Ona, W.Va. The family has requested that contributions be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church or the Ronald McDonald House in Austin's memory.

Kevin D. Dolen
Kevin D. Dolen, 40, of Huntington, WV, passed away unexpectedly from a massive heart attack on Saturday, December 25, 1999. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Deborah Chapman Dolen. Kevin was born August 7, 1959 in Huntington, WV, a son of the Rev. Joseph and Kathleen Adkins Dolen of Barboursville. Additional survivors include not only his wife and parents, but his sister and niece, Brenda Dolen and Shelly Insco of Orangeville, Ontario, Canada; his brother, J. Ross Dolen of Huntington; two special nephews, Curtis and Daniel Chapman of Barboursville, and their parents, Pastor Phillip and Brenda Chapman; brother-in-law and wife, Robert and Sara Bailey of Ona and their children, Nathaniel and Elizabeth; sister-in-law and husband, Mark and Teresa Lowry and their son, David of South Point; his in-laws, Mac and Pauline Chapman and Marvin and Madeline Coyner, all of Barboursville. Also lamenting his death stand a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, business acquaintances, and old friends too numerous to mention. Kevin was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rev. Roscoe and Flossie Lester Adkins and his paternal grandparents, Blufford Willard and Sarah Cardwell Dolen. A memorial service was held Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at New Life Victory Center, Huntington, WV, with his brother-in-law, Pastor Phil Chapman and Father John Patrick McDonough officiating. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

William A. “Bill” Daly
William A. “Bill” Daly, 90, of Ona, passed away Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, October 28, 1999 at Beulah Ann Baptist Church, Ona, with the Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Burial in Arthur Cemetery, Ona. He was born Sept. 18, 1909, a son of the late Joseph and Arina Hayslette Daly. He was retired from Houdaille Industries. He was a member of Beulah Ann Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lillie V. Gibson Daly; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julia Anna and Murrill Chapman of Ona, Edna Mae and Roy Joe Booten of Lavalette; four grandsons, Bruce Ivan (Peggy) Chapman, Brent Andrew (Terri) Chapman, Brian Vernon (Marquitte) Chapman, James William (Susan) Belcher; two great-granddaughters, Rebecca Jane Chapman and Rachel Elizabeth Belcher; three great-great-grandchildren, Brandon Collins, Jacob Collins and Chelsea Clagg; two step grandchildren, Sherri (James) Mears and Joseph Edward (Leah) Booten; Five step great-grandchildren, Sara Mears, Kirby Booten, Victoria Booten, Amy Collins, and Amanda Clagg; and a host of friends and neighbors. Heck Funeral Home, Milton was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas David Doss
Thomas David Doss, 62, of Ashton, husband of Delphia Doss, died Monday, October 11, 1999 at home. He was a retired laborer for former grocery wholesaler Creasey Co. Also surviving are one son, Stacy Clint Doss of Ashton; one daughter, Linda Lou Chapman of Fraziers Bottom; and one brother, James Doss of Ohio. Funeral was held Thursday, October 14, 1999 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom.

Danna Louise Meadows Deaton
Danna Louise Meadows Deaton, 68, of Chesapeake, Ohio, died Monday, Sept. 20,1999 at her home. Funeral services were held on Friday at Beard Mortuary with Rev. Dr. John Sauvage officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born April 24, 1931 in Huntington, W.Va, a daughter of the late Luther “Duke” and Naomi Gill Meadows. She was a retired Librarian for the Fairland School District. She was a member of the Rome Presbyterian Church, Chesapeake Garden Club, the Geneological Society, Daughters of the American Revolution and Phi Delta Kappa. She is survived by a daughter, Vickie Deaton Adkins of Huntington; two sons, D. Greg Deaton and Douglas Noman Deaton, both of Chesapeake, Ohio; two grandchildren, Christian and Gabriel Deaton of Milwaukee, Wisc.; three sisters, Sue Short, Mary Long and Paula Marie Meadows, all of Milton and two brother, Laddie Don Meadows of Huntington and Danny Meadows of Middleport, Ohio.

Mary Ann Lucas Diaz
Mrs. Mary Ann Lucas Diaz, 27, of Delaware, OH, formerly of Ona, WV, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 1999. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Mary Ann was born at West Hamlin, WV, on March 10, 1972. She was a daughter of Mary C. Burns Kestner of Ona and the late Leonard Calvin Lucas. Mary Ann was also preceded in death by a sister, Reba Irene Lucas. She was an employee of Dispatch Consumer Services, Columbus, OH, and a 1990 graduate of Milton High School. Mary Ann attended Marshall University and was a student at Franklin University, Columbus, OH. Survivors in addition to her mother are her husband, Ramon Diaz; two sisters, Sharon Pilachowski of NC and Diana Hudson of Milton; two brothers, Roger Lucas of Cape Coral, Fla., and Raymond Lucas of Ona and a host of family and friends.

Emory Lee Dilley
Emory Lee Dilley, 85, of Willow Wood, OH, passed away Saturday, August 14 1999, at the home of his daughter, Patricia Edmonds. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 17, 1999, at the Old Mount Baptist Church by Rev. Larry Casteel. Burial will be in Old Mount Baptist Church Cemetery. He was born December 12,1913, in Cabell County, a son of the late Lorene Otis Richard and Mattie Prichard Dilley. He was a veteran of the US Army, and was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Marie Short Dilley, and one son, Joseph Lee Dilley. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jerry Edmonds, of Huntington, one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Carman Dilley, of Dallas, TX; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mrs. George T. Howard of Barboursville and Dorothy and Claude Hatfield of Altizer; seven grandchildren, Teresa Patterson of Provo, LTT, Clifton A. Brereton of Lymon WY, Rebecca S. Inscoe of Proctorville, Shelly Foster of Provo, UT, Michael D. Brereton of Huntington, Robert Junior Dilley and Kathy Lee Dilley, both of Texas; eight great-grandchildren: and several nieces and nephews. Thank you Aunt Mary. Norma Cook Dillon
Mrs. Norma Cook Dillon, 86, of Barboursville, W.Va., passed away Friday, July 30, 1999 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, Monday, Aug. 2 by Pastor Carl Merritt. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born July 23, 1913 in Cabell County, a daughter of the late William G. and Louie Lucas Cook. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Everett “Bill” Dillon; one brother, Halley Cook; and one sister, Lovie Bias. She is survived by nieces, Flo Thompson, Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, Helen Cottle and Iris Roe and her husband, Ted, all of Huntington; nephews, Bill Bias, and his wife, Leona, of Scottown, Ohio, Wayne Bias and his wife, Barbara of Salt Rock, and Douglas Bias of Huntington; several great- and great-great-nieces wid nephews: and several nieces and nephews of her husband’s family.

Beulah F. Dial
Beulah F. Dial, 90, of Barboursville, heard the call of God July 15, 1999 and so held in the arms of Jesus, slipped quietly from this earthly life to begin her eternal life with God, our Heavenly Father and Jesus, our Lord and Savior and her many friends and loved ones who were waiting for her coming. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 17, 1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Ed Hood. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Beulah was born Sept. 20, 1908, a daughter of the late Benjamin L. and Lucy Gue Dial. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living member of Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, where she had a perfect attendance record of 39 years, and was Sunday School teacher for sixty-six years. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Bill, Allen, Jud, Frank, and Everett; sisters, Hattie Sias, Mary Wetherholt, and Minnie Sperry. She is survived by nieces, Eula Woods, Joyce and Susy Grimmett who were very attentive in her care; and several other nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Viola Phillips, with whom she shared her home for forty-nine years.

Frank DeJarnett
Frank DeJarnett, 92, of Salt Rock, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 19, 1999 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 21 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Pastor Bill Davis and Rev. Harry F. Moore officiating. Burial in Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock. Frank was born at Salt Rock on April 5, 1907. He was a son of the late John Hamilton and Della Ferrell DeJarnett. Frank was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Belle Ball DeJarnett; an infant son, Freddie DeJarnett; a sister, Anna Zornes; and two brothers, Scott and Paul DeJarnett. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church, Salt Rock and a retired foreman for Vecillio and Grogan. Frank is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ellen and Lowell “Tom” Lewis; two grandchildren, Nathan Lewis and Rachael Lewis, all of Milton; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lily and Russell Stewart of Huntington and Lena Fowble of Gallipolis Ferry, W.Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, Sidney and Alma DeJarnett of Barboursville.
