Thomas Craven Helms, of Barboursville, W.Va, went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 1, 1999. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 3, 1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Pastor James Jobe. Graveside services were conducted Monday, April 5, 1999 at the Gilead ARP Church Cemetery, Huntersville, N.C. He was born Feb. 8, 1921 in Charlotte, N.C., a son of the late Thomas Lee and Nellie Stewart Helms. He was retired from Edward C. Levy Trucking Company, Dearborn, Mich. He was a WWII disabled veteran having served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Valley of Decision Baptist Church, Salt Rock. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Cathy Vickery, and one brother, James E. Helms. He is survived by his wife, Jean Ross Helms; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Jane Helms, Jr. of Monroe, N.C., Lee and Lestie Helms of Salt Rock, seven grandkids, Brian Helms of North Carolina, Scott Helms of Ohio, Dana Helms and Robin Vickery, both of Monroe, N.C., Lee Helms, Jr., Cathy Helms and Jessica Helins, all of Salt Rock; two sisters, Geneva Knox of North Carolina and Elizabeth Workman of Gold Hill, N.C.; six greatgrandkids; two special friends, Dale Miller and Butch Brunty of Salt Rock, and a host of friends and loved ones. Mrs. Norma Margaret Holley, 81, of Glenwood, WV, died Thursday, April 22, 1999 at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at her residence, 2633 Hannan Trace Road, Glenwood, with services conducted by the Rev. Roger Bonecutter. Burial followed in Pete Meadows Cemetery. She was the daughter of the late Russell Barker and Alpha Barker Jenkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Melvin Short Holley; and a stepfather, Vanny Jenkins. She was the overseer of Glenwood Pentecostal Church for many years. Ralph Holton, 77, of Salt Rock, WV, passed away Sunday, May 16, 1999. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial in Ross Cemetery. He was born January 18, 1922, in Salt Rock, a son of the late Gilbert and Amazon Beckett Holton. He was a retired letter carrier, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Southern States CO-OP, a former county assessor, and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Anne Pancake Holton. He is survived by three daughters, Deborah Brown, and Barbara Wieckhorst, both of Florida, and Tammy Smith, of Lavalette; four sons, Ralph Nelson Holton of Nevada, James P. Holton and Mark A. Holton, both of Ohio, and David B. Holton of Salt Rock; two sisters, Jane H. Cremeans of Charleston, and Ruth Ross of Salt Rock; one brother, John Holton of Salt Rock; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kines Edwards Humphreys, 64, of Hurricane, WV, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, WV, after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 29 at Calvary Apostolic Church, Hurricane, WV, with the Rev. C. Douglas Peters officiating. Burial in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Kines was born at Culloden, WV, on August 3, 1934. She was a daughter of the late Clarence R. and Leelia V. Fought Edwards. Kines was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Ines; and two brothers, Robert and Boyd Edwards. She was a former employee of Armstrong Products. Mrs. Betty Jane Irwin, 75, of Milton, WV, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Elmer G. and Julia Miller Parsons. Betty was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Parsons-Williams, two brothers Theodore and Theirn Parsons, an infant daughter, Arubutus Louise Irwin and on Nov. 26, 1994, by her husband, Napoleon J. Irwin. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church, Milton, a graduate of Huntington East High School and a retired cook for the Cabell Co. Board of Education. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Dave Alford of Ona; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Doris Irwin of Proctorville, OH; six grandchildren, Matthew Gordon Irwin, Jamie Alan Irwin, Amy Irwin, Sean David Alford, Tara Faun Ray and husband, Brian Baxter Ray, and Jessika Erin Alford; one great grandson, Landon Monroe Adams; two sisters, Stella Ashworth and Hattie Pinson and one brother, K.A. “Pete” Parsons, all of Huntington.

Evelyn Marie Jefferson, 70, of Ona, passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at her home. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Glenwood. She was the daughter of the late Othel and Mary Blake Jefferson. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Mable Mullins; and four brothers, Delbert, Clinton, Andrew, and James Jefferson. She is survived by one brother, Othel Freeman Jefferson of Columbus, OH; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and one special great nephew, Dakotah Lane Jefferson, of South Point, OH. We will miss her.

Artie Jo Merritt Jordan
Artie Jo Merritt Jordan, 75, passed away on October 27,1999, at her home in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Funeral services were conducted at Barboursville Baptist Church, Barboursville, by the Rev. Craig Coster. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. The former Artie Jo Merritt was born on March 26,1924, in Barboursville, WV, to Joseph and Artie (Phipps) Merritt. On July 20, 1947, she was united in marriage with John E Jordan in Lawrence County, Ohio. During WWII, Artie was a “Rosie Riveter.” She worked in both an insurance office and in the banking industry. When her husband’s job required extensive travel around the globe, Artie retired to travel with him. Mrs. Jordan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters, Margaret Cyrus, Cora Emma Fowble, and Marie Allen, and a brother, Hysel Mallory. Survivors include one daughter and her husband.Linda Hoddy and Michael Tripp of Wisconsin Dells, WI; one son and his wife, Barry and Shahnaz Jordan, three sisters, Sara (Elmer) Jacks of WV, Billie Pinson of Ona, WV, Katherine (Hughie) Cyrus of Barboursville, WV; and sixteen grandchildren. Ishmael Junior Johnson
Ishmael Junior Johnson, 72, of Rockport, WV, formerly of Milton, died August 30, 1999, at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born February 25, 1927, at Milton, a son of the late Ishmael Otis and Ella Etta Morrison Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Wilma Spencer Johnson; Two daughters, Cassandra Kay Poling and Sarah Etta Arnott; two sons, Hensley Otis Johnson and Olaf Renwick Johnson; five sisters, Frances Vititoe, Hattie Vititoe, Halcy Payton, Opal Ellis, and Clodene Stratton; one brother, Lonnie Clinton Johnson; seven grandchildren, Brian Poling, Michelle Newland, Chasity Keeney, Seth and Nicholas Johnson, and Joshua and Jeremy Arnott; six great grandchildren, Dakota, Autumn, and Christopher Poling, Taylor Newland, Kaylee Keeney, and Kaitlynn Arnott; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Hazel Johnson, and a baby brother.
He was a member of the Rockport United Methodist Church; a member of the Rockport Community Association; and a life time member of the National Rifleman’s Association. He retired from the Columbia Gas Company after 39 years of service. His kind heart, spirit of love, enthusiasm for life and the great outdoors, zeal for hunting and fishing, and his enjoyment of music will be a heritage left to all who knew him. Funeral services were conducted at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg, by the Rev. Robert May. Burial in the Big Tygart Cemetery in the Rockport Section.

Evelyn Louise Jackson, 73, of Barboursville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by her Pastors Stan Maynard and David Ashworth. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born Feb. 14, 1926 in Huntington, a daughter of the late Henry Franklin and Roma Hall Harden. She was a charter member of the Church in the Valley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Jackson, Jr., one sister, Lois Irene Chapman, and one brother, Oscar Ray Harden. Mae was born in Griffithsville, WV, on July 22, 1912. She was a daughter of the late Franklin S. and Mary T. Stowers Bays. Mae was also preceded in death by her husband, Alphus D. Johnson and two grandsons, Larry Conner and Lonnie Johnson, three sisters and one brother. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, Milton, Milton Senior Citizens, an honorary member of the Milton Women's Club and a homemaker. Alvin “Red” Lee, 75, of Salt Rock, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at Bloomingdale-Salem Baptist Church by Pastor Jeff Sizemore and Rev. Richard Black. Burial in Baylous Cemetery. He was born March 13, 1924, in Logan County, W.Va., a son of the late Allen and Vada Bias Lee. He retired from the C&O Railroad after thirty-nine years of service. He was a member of Bloomingdale-Salem Baptist Church and a former Little League Baseball coach at Hite-Saunders. He was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 67 and a charter member of the Guyan Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. He also helped form the Salt Rock Volunteer Fire Department. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Ollie Sorrel, Daisy Coldiron. Dorothy Schmidt, and Ella Johnson; and two brothers, Everett Hill and Roy Lee. He is survived by his wife, Eva Estep Lee; one daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Roger McComas of Hamlin; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Danny and Sharon Lee of Richmond, Va., Timothy and Patricia Lee of Salt Rock, Anthony Lee of Salt Rock, and Stacy and Kimberly Lee of Cross Junction, Va.; three sisters, Maude Johnson of Barboursville, Elsie Childers of Strongville, Ohio, and Mabel Sabo of St. Augustine, Fla.; one brother, Herb Lee of Salt Rock; and ten grandchildren. Ermal Mae Pyles Llewellyn, 70, of St. Petersburg, Florida died Sunday, July 11, 1999 at St. Anthony’s Hospital. She was born in Huntington, WV. She moved to St. Petersburg in 1969. She retired in 1990 as a supervisor with McCroy’s. She was a member of Gateway DAV Chapter 127 Auxiliary, the Sea Gull Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association, and the Florida Women’s Bowling Association’s 30 Year Club. She was a Vice President of Fleet Reserve 102 Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Era and Ernest J. Pyles, and a brother, Charles Otis Sullivan. Survivors include her husband of 40 years Richard R., three sons, Michael and Danny, both of Crystal River, FL, and Richard C., of St. Petersburg; a brother, Eldridge Earles, of Huntington; a sister, Flora Ann Pyles Kadish, of St. Petersburg; and five grandchildren. Alonza I. “Joe” Luellen, 74, of Ona, WV, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 16, 1999, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington. Joe was born at Ona on Jan. 18, 1925. He was a son of the late Samuel A. and Rosa E. Schultz Luellen. Joe was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Louise Chapman. He was a member of Beulah Ann Baptist Church, Ona and retired from ACF Industries, Huntington. Joe was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Natalie and Larry Pyles of Ona and Karly L. She was born Nov. 30, 1918 in Borderland, W.Va., a daughter of the late Melvin and Bessie Stepp Hall. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Flossie Lusher, and two brothers Lawrence and Leonard Hall. She is survived by her brother, Lloyd Hall of Holly Hill, Fla., and nieces and nephews. Roy G. Lewis, 58, of Milton WV, went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 17,1999, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, WV. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 19 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Dr. Virgil Courts and the Rev. Kelson Bays officiating. Entombment in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Roy was born at Chelyan, WV, on January 21, 1941. He was a son of Theresa Hicks Lewis of Milton and the late Leslie W. “Pert”.Lewis. Roy was member of Union Baptist Church Milton and a retired transportation supervisor for the Cabell County Board of Education. Survivors in addition to his mother are: his wife, Patricia Smith Lewis; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Darrell Steed of Culloden; one son an daughter-in-law, David and Johnna Lewis of Lexington, SC; four grandchildren, Tyler Steed, Austin Steed, Joshua Lewis and Hannah Lewis; one sister, Shirley Cyrus; two brothers, John Lewis and Kyle Lewis; special friend, Eli White, all of Milton and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Perry Lee Morris, 84, of Regency Place, Scott Depot, WV, formerly of Chattanooga, TN, passed away Thursday, October 28, 1999, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Chattanooga (TN) Funeral Home North, by the Rev. Dale Gilbert, Pastor of the Wesley Memorial Methodist Church. Burial in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Chattanooga. She was born October 2,1915, in Mulga, Alabama, daughter of the late John Jacob and Priscilla Jane Kelly. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Franklin Morris, a brother, Crawford Kelly, and a sister, Aline Shaver Collins. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Jeanne Morris of Culloden, WV, and Bill and Elma Morris of Patterson, NY; five grandchildren, Tony, Bill, Chris, Scott and Laura Morris; five greatgrandchildren, Brittany, John, Bill, Sara Jean and Chelsea; a sister, Juanita Harrison of San Angelo, TX; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were grandsons and Houston Shaver and Todd Worlen. Contributions may be made to the Milton (WV) Presbyterian Church. Lucille Hope Mills, 79, of Huntington, went to be with her Lord Thursday, November 4, 1999, at her care givers’ residence. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, November 8, 1999 at the Lewis Memorial Baptist Church, W. Pea Ridge, with Dr. David Lemming officiating. Burial in Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne. She was born Dec. 10, 1919, in Milton, a daughter of the late Mountaville and Jeanette Bias Jenkins. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Ovvie Mills and her second husband, Ralph Hawkins. She was a retired selector for Owens-Illinois Glass Plant. She is survived by one son, Forrest Lee Mills of Huntington; two step-sons, Gary Hawkins of Huntington, W.Va., and Lionel Mills of Tampa, Fla.; one step-daughter, Wilma Lee Jezior of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Josephine Adams of Huntington and Opal Ashworth of Milton; two brothers, Ford Jenkins and Malcolm Jenkins, both of Milton; nine grandchildren; two very special friends, Edith Estep and Betty Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Opal Norine Midkiff
Opal Norine Midkiff, 91, of Hayes, Virginia, formerly of Barboursville, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, in Gloucester Point, Va. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Craig Coster. Burial be in Enon Cemetery. She was born January 16,1908, in West Hamlin, a daughter of the late Dr. Meredith F. and Stella Margaret Lewis Brown. She was a member of Barboursville Baptist Church and in her earlier years was active in Sunday School and WMU Circles. She was a graduate of Huntington High School and attended Marshall College. She taught school for two years in West Hamlin and taught piano lessons in Chapmanville and Barboursville for many years until the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Midkiff, agent and operator for the C&O Railroad, and one son-in-law, Aubrey Walters. She is survived by two daughters, Anita Turner and her husband, Paul, of Hayes, Va., and Patricia Walters of Baton Rouge, La.; one son, Raymond Midkiff and his wife, Elaine, of Germantown, Ohio; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harold L. Brown of Huntington, W.Va., Earl F. Brown of Newport Richey, Fla., and Sherrill Midkiff of Norfolk, Va. In loving memory, donations may be made to Barboursville Baptist Church.

Henry Stewart Mount, 75, of Glenwood, husband of Laura Black Mount, died Saturday, October 9, 1999, in St. Mary’s Hospital. He was a retired grinder for Blenko Glass Co., Milton. Also surviving are one son, Willie Mount of Barboursville, one daughter, Pamela Dutton of Barboursville; four brothers, William B. Mount, James Mount, Raymond Mount and Walter Mount, all of Glenwood; and two sisters, Geneviene Spurlock of Scottown, Ohio, and Oweva Clary of Glenwood. Mrs. Genevieve E. “Jenny” Morrison
Mrs. Genevieve E. “Jenny” Morrison, 74, of Barboursville passed away Thursday, September 23,1999 at her residence. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 26,1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, by Rev. Brian Wray with violinist Patricia Green. Mrs. Morrison’s daughter, Judith Walker will present a special tribute. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton She was born June 18, 1925 in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late Franklin and Alwilda Madora Alford Mc Callister. Genevieve was a sixty-year member of the Hurricane Church of the Nazarene. Prior to her retirement she was a dispatcher for the Hurricane Police Department. But, her greatest life’s work was, through her example, instilling the characteristics of love, servanthood, forgiveness, honesty, sincerity and an appreciation for all the minute details of God’s goodness into her daughters and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Webb; one grandchild, Christopher Walker; her sisters, Hallie McCallister, Garland McCallister and Arbutus Quentrill. She is survived by her husband, Henry “Drew” Morrison; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judith Walker of Mullens, WV, and Jacqueline and James McCoy of Huntington; grandchildren, Andrew Walker and Whitney Genevieve Walker of Mullens, Zachary Lucas and Yuri McCoy, both of Huntington, and Hillary McCoy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Myrtle Faye Smith and Xenil Marker, both of Hurricane; two brothers, Orel McCallister, of Hurricane, and Hillard McCallister of Scott Department. She was blessed and is survived by a host of life-long best friends. Pallbearers were officers from the Hurricane Police Department .
Ines Maddox
Ines Maddox, 66, of Barboursville, passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 1999 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Aug. 27, 1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Pastor Rick Glass, Pastor Bob Browning, and the Rev. David B. Maddox. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. She was born Oct. 10, 1932 in Olive Hill, Ky., a daughter of the late Rev. Arthur and Minnie Shelton. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Woodroe (Woody) Shelton, Roy (Curly) Shelton, Chester Shelton, and Rev. Raymond Shelton. After Ines graduated from Erie High School in Olive Hill, Ky., she continued her education at Auburn University majoring in journalism. Ines and her husband have lived in Barboursville for over forty years where the last thirty-plus years the two of them have operated Maddox Antenna. She worked for her husband’s business during that time as office manager. She is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Robert B. Maddox; three sons, Robert Keith Maddox of Huntington, Rev. David B. Maddox of Los Angeles, Calif., and Jerry Arthur Maddox of Barboursville; two sisters, Mable Powers of Bend, Ore., Dorothy Sparks of Milton; one brother, Andy Shelton of Hendersonville, N.C.; one daughter-in-law, Kim Maddox; two granddaughters, Amanda Maddox and Rachel Maddox, and two grandsons, Nate Maddox and Taylor Maddox. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Freda B. McComas, 73, Glenwood, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 30, 1999. Born on August 22, 1925, to the late Lawrence and Dinah Bias, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. McComas, grandson, Thomas Eric McComas, sisters, Bergie Crowley and Lillie Dick, and brothers, Clellan and Goble Bias. Survivors include son, Roger A. McComas and wife, Kathy of Glenwood and his step-children, Michael, Rebekka, Patrick and Tyler Henry; son, Dennis R. McComas of Glenwood and his children, Lani, Ryan, Patrick and Daniel McComas; daughter, Linda McComas Huston and husband, Duane of Tucson, Ariz. and their children, Derek and Brian Huston; son, Kenneth R. McComas and wife, Shirley of Glenwood and their children, Angie Staats, Clayton McComas, Natalie Taylor and Jessica Meadows; daughter, Brenda McComas Bryant and husband, Jim of Ceredo and her children, Tamara Lovejoy, Bradley and Leslie Smith; daughter, Terri McComas Bennett and husband, Jason of Charlotte, NC. and their children, Rachel and Zachary; sisters, Odessa Messenger of Barboursville and Reba Gibson of Huntington. Freda lived to see and enjoy the addition of three great-grandchildren, Kyra Marie Meadows, born to Jessica and Eddie; Tristan Tanner Lovejoy, born to Tamara and Rubon; Justin Thomas Staats born to Angie and Tom and to know and rejoice in the recent birth of Savanna Rae Taylor, born to Natalie and Josh. Freda was a lifelong member of the church with members for many years at Union Chapel United Methodist.
In addition to active participation in the church she worked outside the home for many years retiring as coordinator of the Milton Branch of the Senior Community Services Program in late summer of 1997. She remained active in the Milton Senior Center to time of her death. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 3, 1999, at Heck Funeral Home with Rev. James L. Dailey and Rev. Gordon L. Rutherford officiating. Burial in Union Ridge Cemetery, Glenwood. The family suggests that memorials be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Center, Memphis, TN in lieu of flowers.

Mrs. Countess Morrison, 93, of Culloden, WV, formerly of Logan, passed away Sunday, July 18, 1999 in Morris Memorial Convalescent and Nursing Home, Milton, W.Va., after a long illness. A graveside funeral service was.conducted Wednesday, July 21 at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Pecks Mill, W.Va., with Rev. Rex Thompson officiating. Countess was born Dec. 16, 1905 in Logan County. She was a. daughter of the late Lark and Lillian Berry White. Countess was also preceded in death by her husband, James Dallas Morrison. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Logan. Countess is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Calvin McNab of Culloden; one grandson, Dallas McNab and his wife, Heather of Teays Valley; nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church of Logan in lieu of flowers.

Mrs. Arvilla Moseman, 90, of Barboursville, WV, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was born October 8,1908, in Buchannan, KY, a daughter of the late Samuel and Adellne Cross Bellomy. She was a retired restaurant owner, and a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thurman Moseman. She is survived by one daughter, Sue Ann Gooch of Barboursville; grandchildren, Marsha Childers and Timothy Gooch; great-grandchildren, Vicki Herbert, Frank Jefferson, Aleshia Gooch, Meghan Gooch and Jeremy Gooch;, great-great-grandchildren, Mason, Hannah and Sophia. Bertha M. Maynard, 71, of Lesage, WV, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 17, 1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Dale Orihood. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born May 4, 1928 in Cabell County, daughter of the late Harless and Mary Jenkins Black. She was a supervisor with Maidenform with 46 years of service, and was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Maynard and one brother, Carl Black. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bernard “Butch” and Ginger Maynard of Lesage, WV; two sisters, Dimmie Adkins of Huntington and Lynn Hanes of Lavalette; three brothers, Mervin Black of Huntington, Tommy Black of Barboursville, and Ronnie Black of Milton; and three grandchildren, Tammy, Jeff, and Johnny Maynard. Randall “Pete” Martin
Randall “Pete” Martin, age 80, of Hurricane, WV, died June 23, 1999, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness. He was an Army veteran of World War II, retired lab tech with the South Charleston carbide plant, member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane and a lifelong resident of Hurricane. He is the son of the late Henry and Emma Sovine Martin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elezine G. Martin, and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include one brother, Harold A. Martin of Teays Valley; one sister, Elise F. Chaney of Culloden; several nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, Terry Grierson of Hurricane. Funeral services were held Friday, June 25th at Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen Stewart. Burial in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Allen Funeral Home of Hurricane was in charge of arrangements.
Linda Marie Martin
Linda Marie Martin, 60, of Fort Scott, died at her home, Sunday, June 27, 1999, following a lengthy illness. She was born, Jan. 8, 1939, in Milton, West Virginia, the only daughter of Bernard Hunt and Edna Marie King Chapman. She graduated from Kansas City College and Bible School in 1956. She received her License Nursing degree from Kansas City, Kan., Area Vocational Technical School in 1971. In 1975, Linda, and her four children moved to Fort Scott so the children could attend Fort Scott Christian Heights School. She was a nurse at Mercy Hospital for 21 years, retiring in 1998. She attended the Deerfield Church of God (Holiness), Deerfield, Mo. since 1976, and was faithful in attendance until her health failed. Survivors include four children Bretta Kelso, Fort Scott, Tamara Peck, Peru, Kan., George Mattin, Emmett, Idaho, and Miriam Briggs, Deerfield, Mo.;13 grandchildren; three brothers, Frank Chapman, Houston, Texas, Jim Chapman, Mission, Kan., and John Chapman, Jamul, Calif.; and many other family members and friends, including a very special friend, Dixie Gates. She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant daughter, Beatrice Marie Martin.

Mrs. Verba Mae Meadows, 85, of Huntington, WV, formerly of Glenwood, WV, passed away Thursday, April 8, 1999 in Mariner Health of Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 10 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Rev. Bob Withers officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Verba was born May 6, 1913 in Mason County. She was a daughter of the late George and Sarah M. George Forth. Verba was also preceded in death by three sisters, Effie Holley, Gertrude Holley and Blema Forth and two brothers, Wellston and James Forth. She was a former seamstress. Verba is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Shirley Meadows of Milton; one grandson, Michael Meadows and his wife, Vonda of Milton; one sister Virgie L. Cremeans of Huntington; one brother, Hugh J. Forth of Milton and a host of nieces and nephews.
Woodrow H. "Woody" McDonie
Mr. Woodrow H. "Woody" McDonie, 80, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Friday, May 7, 1999 in Heritage Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 10 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Fred Johns officiating. Burial in Maupin Cemetery, Ona, W.Va. Woodrow was born in Cabell County on April 11, 1919. He was a son of the late Sidney Robert and Agnes Jones McDonie. Woodrow was also preceded in death by two wives, Velma Wetherholt McDonie and Mary Smith McDonie; and a half brother, Charles Bias. He was Protestant by faith and a retired carpenter. Woodrow is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Raines of South Point, Ohio, Rhonda Fisher of Charleston, Loretta Yates of Trenton, Mich., and Cheryl Lowery of Maylene, Ala.; three sons, Gary McDonie, John McDonie and Oscar McDonie, all of Cleveland, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Sandee Wallace of Sarasota, Fla.; a stepson, Jerry Smith of Chesapeake, Ohio; two sisters, Dosha Thompson of Hurricane and Mary Frances Lewis of Barboursville; and two brothers, Lonnie McDonie of Belle, W.Va., and James Bias of Barboursville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Henry Meadows, 71, of Milton, died Saturday, May 8, 1999 in Morris Memorial Nursing Home, Milton. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 11, at Milton Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Sovine officiating. Burial in Mount Olive Cemetery, near Milton. Mr. Meadows served in the Amy during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Mount Olive Methodist Church. He was born May 22, 1927 in Mason County, the son of the late Isaac and Lonie Chapman Meadows. He is survived by his wife, Reba Chapman Meadows of Milton; three sons, James Roger Meadows, Henry Meadows Jr. and Larry Meadows, all of Ohio; and two daughters, Cheryl K. Johnson of Ohio and Denise Salmons of Hamlin. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert Meadows and Charles Meadows, both of Milton; six sisters, Louise Chapman of Milton, Nannie Costella and Edna Browning, both of Oklahoma, Florence Boster of Huntington, Helen Glover of Glenwood and Mary Lucas of Barboursville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was born June 2, 1904, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Shelby and Mary Ellen Nicholas Reynolds. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Russell Meadows; one son, Lee Meadows; and two brothers, Oliver and Merrill Reynolds.
