Janet McCallister, 54, of Milton, died Thursday, May 20, 1999, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 23, 1999, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel. Burial in Barker Ridge Cemetery. She was born September 26, 1944, in Cabell County, a daughter of Cecil Clagg of Milton and the late Wilma Holley. She is also survived by her husband, Carl "Paddle" McCallister; one son, Eddie McCallister of Milton; two sisters, Judy McCoy of Florida and Dianah Holley of Ona; and one brother, Ray Clagg of Lesage.

Mildred Mae Morrison
Mildred Mae Morrison, 77, of Huntington, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 28, 1999, at the Brookwood Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at the Lewis Memorial Baptist Church, West Pea Ridge Road, Huntington, by Dr. David Lemming. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. She was born December 15, 1921, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Lessie Pettry Adkins. She was a retired grocer and was a faithful member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church where she taught her kindergarten class for the past thirty-seven yearn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Morrison, and one brother, Walter “Newman” Adkins. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mike Miller of Birmingham; one son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Debby Morrison of Huntington; one sister Geraldine Cooper of Milton; one brother, Hobart Adkins of Barboursville; three loved grandchildren, Missy Morrison, Shawn Miller and wife Shauna, and Jason Miller. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. She was a wonderful mother and will be greatly missed by a host of friends and loved ones.

Tressie C. Morrison
Tressie C. Morrison, 89, of a Huntington, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 28,1999, at Heartland of Riverview Nursing Home. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Pastor Carl Merritt. Burial in Enon Cemetery. She was born September 25, 1909, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Fred and Bertha Bledsoe Carter. She was a retired seamstress with the People’s Company and was a member of East Campbell Park United Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Morrison; one son, Kenneth Morrison; one grandson, Roger Carter; two sisters; and two brothers. She is survived by three daughters, and two sons-in-law, Mildred and Glenn Chapman of Barboursville, Jean and James Coates and Barbara Carter, all of Huntington; one son and two daughters-in- law, Richard A. and Crary Carter of Huntington, and Rosemary Morrison of Cleveland, Ohio, one sister, Winnie Frye, of Barboursville; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; many loved ones and friends. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. was in charge of arrangements. The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland of Riverview for their loving care and kindness.

Audrey Winson Meadows
Audrey Winson Meadows, 80, of Ona, WV, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 26, 1999, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 29 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. George F. Sturgeon officiating. Burial in Bicker Cemetery, Milton. Audrey was born at Huntington on May 21, 1919. He was a son of the late Emil Keith and Sarah Chapman Meadows. Audrey was also preceded in death by two sisters, Aldine Jackson and Frances Blake Clagg; and two brothers, Lon and John Meadows. He was a member of the Lawrence Chapel and a retired school bus driver for the Cabell County Board of Education with 29 years of service. Audrey was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army and a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and Rebekkah Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marie Aline Grose Meadows; one daughter and son-in-law, Juanita Carol and Walter Lee Wise of Milton; one son and daughter-in-law, Walter Keith and Carolyn Henry Meadows of Ona; one foster son and his wife, Ronnie and Linda Hoover of Ona; eight granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Katherine Templeton and Ircyl Black both of Milton.

Earnest V. “Jack” Nida
Earnest V. “Jack” Nida, 81, of Barboursville, died Sunday morning, Nov. 14, 1999 at his home. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Ben Varley. Burial in Baylous Cemetery. He was born March 23, 1918 in Cabell County, a son of the late Herbert and Bertha Baily Nida. He was a retired construction worker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the VFW Post #1064 Huntington. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Nellie Gue, Hester Dolen and Earlsee Nida; five brothers, Jess, Wetzel, Earl, William Carl and Johnny Nida. Survivors include his wife, Eunice Miller Nida; his son Dillon Lee Nida, (the joy of his life); step-children, Elaine Hiller and her husband, Richard, Elizabeth Gorman, Terry, William, John and Dennis Moss and Walter Wahrab; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brothers, Herbert Nida of Salt Rock, WV, and Calvin Nida of Barboursville; his sisters, Norma Berry and Lillia Adkins, both of Salt Rock and Ida Belle Stevens of Huntington.

John Nicholas
John Nicholas, 84, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Huntington, widower of Pauline Nicholas, died Friday, July 23, 1999 in Lakeland. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Evans of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one son, Jimmy Nicholas of Lakeland; two sisters, Gladys Ball of Huntington and Mae Raeby of Virginia; and two brothers, Fred Nicholas of Salisbury, N.C., and Bill Nicholas of Staunton, Va. Graveside service held Wednesday, July 28, 1999, in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Hurricane. Heck Funeral Home, Milton was in charge of arrangements.

James Howard Neale
James Howard Neale, 32, of Lesage, husband of Sonya Berry Neale, died Monday, July 19, 1999. He was an electrician with Jarvis Electric. Also surviving are one daughter, Laurie Neale of Leasage; three sisters, Tina Youngkin of Barberton, Ohio, Vicki Fredricks of Ohio and Michelle Sosenko of Florida; and four brothers, Daniel Fleegle and David Neale of Lexington, Ky., and Robert Neale of Akron, Ohio. Funeral services were held Friday, July 23, 1999 at Chapman’s Mortuary; burial in Greenbottom Memorial Park.

Juanita Hayes Nichols, 79, of Milton, widow of James W. “Jimmy” Nichols, died Sunday, June 20, 1999 in Columbia Putnam General Hospital. She was a seamstress. Funeral Tuesday, June 22, 1999 at Heck Funeral Home; burial in Templeton Cemetery.

NORMA IRENE NASH
Mrs. Norma Irene Nash, 60, of Huntington WV, passed away April 20, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 23,1999, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Truman Adkins. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born June 3, 1938, in West Hamlin, a daughter of the late James and Della Crank Harless. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Gary Nash III. She is survived by her husband, Gary Nash, her children and their spouses, Debra and Mike Hesson of Prichard, Gary and Rhonda Nash Jr., of Charlotte, NC, Pam and John Atkins Jr., of Lynchburg, VA, and Vickie and Larry Lambert of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister, Letha Mills of Barboursville; one half-sister, Bertha Dillon of California; one brother, James Harless of Huntington, WV; nine grandchildren, Michelle Hesson Jeffries, Michael Hesson, Nathaniel, Preston and Megan Nash, Keith and Kira Gottberg, Matthew and Amanda Lambert, and a very dear friend, Connie Sadler. Seward Shelton Price, Jr.
Seward Shelton Price, Jr., 76, of Ona, WV, passed away Monday, December 13, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital. Memorial services were conducted Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Brent Gibson. V.F.W. Post #1064, Huntington, conducted military graveside rites along with Minerva Lodge #13 A.F. & A.M. conducting Masonic graveside rites Thursday at the Blue Sulphur Cemetery, Ona. He was born October 19, 1923, in Mingo County, a son of Ardath Ferrell Price of Ona, and the late Seward Shelton Price, Sr. He was preceded in death by one brother, James F. Price. He was owner and operator of Price Music Company, a veteran of the US Navy, having served during WVII, Past Commander of D.A.V., Life Member of the V.F.W., #1064, Huntington, American Legion #177, Barboursville, Loyal Order of Moose, #347, Huntington, Fraternal Order of Eagles, #2320, Minerva Lodge #13, A.F. & A.M. Barboursville, Guyandotte R.A.M., York Rite Huntington Commandry, Scottish Rite Valley, Huntington, Beni Kedem Shrine, Charleston, and Beni Kedem Legion of Honor, Charleston. Also surviving are his wife, Phyllis Bailey Price; one son, Marvin Shelton Price of Ona; two brothers, Harold Kenton Price of Ona, and Clifton G. “Kip” Price of Ravenswood, WV; his grandchildren, Jason, Jami, Mattie Brooke and Celia Ann; one stepdaughter, Sharon Allman of Sumter, SC; two stepsons, Gary Hale of Salt Rock and David Hale of Idaho; step-grandchildren Nicole Hatcher, David Davidson Aaron, Emily and Natalie Hale; a special cousin Ronnie Ferrell of Ona; several nephews and his good friend, Jack Ransbottom. Paul Edwin Porter
Paul Edwin Porter, 53, of Barboursville, passed away Monday, November 8, 1999, at home. Graveside services were conducted Thursday, November 11, 1999, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens by Pastor Tony Vance. He was born March 30, 1946, in Cabell County, a son of the late Alonzo Garland and Beula Hazel Algco Porter. He was a veteran of Vietnam serving in the US Navy. He is survived by his wife, Paula Woods Porter; two sons, Jeremy Porter and Jacob Porter, both of Barboursville; three sisters, Jo Ann Cummings of Milton, Phyllis Butcher of Huntington and Margietta Porter Singer of Burke, Virginia; one brother, Charles Porter of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Erma Cleo Perdue
Erma Cleo Perdue, 90, of Ona, formerly of Lesage, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, November 18, 1999 at Heck Funeral Home with the Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Burial in Caldwell Cemetery, Lesage. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Lynn and Ted Olson of Durham, NC; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Melvin L. and Beverly Rider of Falls Church, VA, Wayne J. and Iva Mae Rider and Bobbie L. Rider, all of Ona; two sisters, Beulah Poynter of Ona and Orpha Poynter of Huntington; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Emma Brinegar Perry
Emma Brinegar Perry, 94, of Rt. 1 East Lynn, WV, died Monday, October 25, 1999, at her residence following a long illness. She was a daughter of the late George W. and Ailcy Adkins Brinegar. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, 11 months, Willard Perry, one son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Avenell Perry of Kenova, WV; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Bertha and John Leazer of Largo, Florida, Viola and Garrett Smith of Huntington, WV, Margaret McClure, and Wilma Jean Fonda of Huntington, WV, and Lula Belle Edmonds of East Lynn, WV, who cared for her, one special foster sister, Gladys Adkins of Huntington, WV; thirteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Arkie E. Perry, and two granddaughters, Kimberly Parsons and Sheila Cunningham. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at Bethlehem United Baptist Church of which she was a member, by the Rev. Russell Donahue. Burial in Moses Asbury Cemetery, Rt. 1, East Lynn, WV. The family would like to thank Barbara Smith and special neighbors Juanita and Lilbert Porter and Riley and Delpha Walker. Ruby H. Pullen
Ruby H. Pullen, 88, of Hurricane died Sept. 16, 1999, at home after a long illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Hurricane and a member of Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church and Hurricane Women’s Club.
Surviving: daughters, Illa Jayne Andrews and Arlene Pullen, both of Hurricane; brothers, Carl Conner of Georgia, Marvin Conner of Pennsylvania, Irvin Conner of Barboursville, Harley Conner of Tornado; one grandson.
Services were held Saturday, September 18th at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, Hurricane, with the Rev. Dan Hogan and the Rev. Charlie Thompson officiating. Burial in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Allen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ora Frances Morrison Paugh
Ora Frances Morrison Paugh, 101, of Salt Rock, W.Va., widow of William Dallas Paugh, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Sept. 5, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Revs. David Cartwright and Manford Hutchinson. Burial in Morrison Cemetery, River Road, Salt Rock. She was the daughter of the late John Eli and Mary Bias Morrison. Born Nov. 20, 1897, in Cabell County, she was a member of Salt Rock United Methodist Church in Salt Rock, W.Va, and was a former teacher in Cabell County. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia June Paugh; two sons, Sterling Paugh and Wyatt Paugh; a daughter-in-law, Clara Jean Paugh; and three sisters, Lesta Wilson, Ruth Adams and Tressa Wagoner. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Bill Wagoner of Barboursville, Madge and Vernon Adkins of Hurricane, Pauline and Edward Adkins of Huntington; and a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Paugh of Barboursville. She had 11 grandchildren, Linda Jefferson, Mary Bevins, Connie Desmond, Eddie Paugh, Patricia Sager, Bill Wagoner, Eldon Paugh, Rebecca Paugh, Terry Paugh, Cathy Conard and Melanie Crews; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Eldon Paugh, Terry Paugh, Eddie Paugh, Bill Wagoner, Buck Conard and Richard Desmond.

Woodrow W. “Woody” Perry
Woodrow W. “Woody” Perry, 87, of Milton, W.Va., died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Sept. 3 at the Milton Baptist Church, Milton, of which he was a member, by Dr. Thomas J. DuBose and Dr. Stan Maynard. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Woody was born at Milton on Feb. 2, 1912. He was a son of the late Thomas Hawkins and Emma Agnes Perry. Woody was also preceded in death by a sister, Hester Beckett; by three brothers, Glenn, Carlos and Herbert and on Feb. 4, 1994, by his wife, Mildred Morrison Perry. Woody was a former choir director for the Milton Baptist Church with 25 years of service and a retired employee of Huntington Alloys. He was a 50 year member of the Milton Lions Club, a member of the Milton Senior Citizens Club, a member of the Huntington Alloys Quarter Century Club and a Kentucky Colonel. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Glenn “Mick” Rowan of Milton and Sally and Jim Sovine of Culloden; five grandchildren, Kent Rowan, Kami Rowan, Kara Gamble, Krista Raines and Kyra Minichan; three great-grandchildren, Meghan Rowan, Morgan Raines and Perry Minichan, all of whom he loved dearly. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorials to the Milton Baptist Church Milton, WV, 25541, in lieu of flowers.

EUSEBUS T. PARKER, JR.
Mr. Eusebus T. Parker, Jr., 82, of Milton, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, April 13, 1999 in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 15, 1999 at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, by the Rev. Keith Leap. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery. He was retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Co. and was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in WWII and the Korean conflict, and was a member of the Minervia Lodge #13 A.F. & A.M. of Barboursville. He was born June 8, 1916 in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late.Eusebus T. and Mary C. Beckett Parker. Survivors include his wife Mildred O'Daniel Parker; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Eusebus T. Parker III and Rebecca P. of Barboursville, Dan Michael Parker of Simpsonville, S.C.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Chapman's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Gary Franklin Perry
Gary Franklin Perry, 42, of Branchland, passed away Friday, July 16, 1999 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 19, 1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. James Gilkerson. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born May 27, 1957 in Williamson, a son of the late James and Eunice Thacker Perry. He was an employee of Huntington Hospital and a veteran of the U.S. Marines. He was a member of Upper Smith Creek United Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie Perry and Jimmy Perry. He is survived by his wife, Sue Cremeans Perry; two daughters, Ashlee Nicole Perry and Amy Ruth Perry, both at home; one stepson, Brian Cremeans of Barboursville; one stepdaughter, Dee Lawson of Atlanta, Georgia; four sisters, Gayle Ray, Jane Perry, Sandra Perry, and Susan Perry, all of Williamson; two brothers, Larry Perry and David Perry, both of Williamson; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and Amon Cremeans of Branchland. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

ORANGIE E. PEYTON
Orangie E. Peyton, 62, of Milton. died Thursday, April 15, 1999. at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 18, 1999, at Milton Funeral Home, Milton, by the Rev. Frank Brotherton. Burial in Staten Chapel, Milton. She was born September 9, 1936, in Mason County, WV, a daughter of the late McKinley and Vertie Toney Conrad. She was a homemaker and attended God's House of Prayer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley R. Peyton. Survivors include one daughter, Teresa Lewis and her husband, James E., of Milton: one son, Timothy A. Peyton and his wife, Christina, of Warner Robins, GA; three sisters, Betty Adkins of Milton, Evaline Chapman of Fraziers Bottom, WV, and Eloise Chapman of Milton; and one brother, Dennis Conrad of Milton.

BESSIE MARIE POWERS
Bessie Marie Powers, 91, of Milton, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 6, 1999 in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 8 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Rev. Chelcie Gibson and Rev. Jackie D. Clark officiating. Burial in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom, W.Va. Bessie was born July 15, 1907 at Cross Creek, W.Va. She was a daughter of the late John F. and Emma Louise Painter Martin. Bessie was also preceded in death on Oct. 14, 1954 by her husband, Donald Powers. Also preceding her in death was an infant son, Donald Clinton Powers and a son-in-law, James E. Jenkins. Bessie was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Milton and a homemaker. She is survived by four daughters and their husbands, Dilla Jean and Leo Given, Phyllis and John Hickman, with whom Bessie made her home, Gerri and Bennie Ashworth and Donna and Drew Cooper all of Milton; three sons and their wives, Arthur and Sharon Powers and Lester and Jackie Powers, all of Milton and Lewis and Phyllis Powers of Hurricane; two sisters, Louella Grant and Mary Fritz, both of Akron, Ohio; and a brother, Cecil Martin of Baltimore, Md.; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and two very special neighbors, Jim and Mildred Blake of Milton. Bessie's grandsons served as pallbearers.

Cline Lester Porter
Cline Lester Porter, 83, Salt Rock, went to be with the Lord Monday, May 3, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital. He was born Feb. 20, 1916, in Salt Rock, a son of the late John Jaruel and Julia Beckett Porter. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, John, Gilbert, Grant and Jaruel; and two sisters, Ruby and Gladys. He was a retired machinist at Huntington Alloys, Inc. after, 45 years of service. He was a member of Salt Rock United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and treasurer for 40 years. He was also a member of the National Guard. He is survived by his wife, Edith Nida Porter after 62 years of marriage; one daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Dr. Edward Nichols of New Rochelle, NY; four sons, Emil Porter and his wife, Wanda, of Ona, Richard Wayland Porter and his wife, Patricia, Michael Porter and his wife, Sandra, and Anthony Porter, all of Salt Rock; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Cass Hutchinson and Pastor David Cartwright at Salt Rock United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 6, 1999. Burial in the Porter Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Darrell L. "Pete" Perry
Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, DARRELL L. "PETE" PERRY, 65, of Salt, Rock, WV, departed this life, Friday, May 21, 1999 to be united with his heavenly Father and reunited with his earthly father and mother Osel and Mary Gibson Perry; and brother, Jennings Clyde Perry, who preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Monday, May 24, at Enon Baptist Church with the Rev. Harry Moore and Rev. Cass Hutchinson officiating. Burial in Enon Cemetery; military graveside services were conducted by V.F.W. #9738, Huntington. He was born June 1, 1933 in Cabell County, WV. He was a Veteran of the US Navy having served his country from 1952 to 1956. He was employed at the Huntington Mall as Superintendent of Maintenance where he developed many special friendships. He was also a member of the Enon Missionary Baptist Church and the Hamlin Lodge #79 A.F. & A.M. Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Kaye Farley Perry; two loving daughters and one son-in-law, Crystal Dawn and Eric Nichols of Morgantown, and Mari Lynn Perry of Lexington, Ky; three special grandchildren, Chadd Michael, Joseph Todd and Courtney Danielle Nichols, all of Morgantown; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. Golden and Dovetta Farley. He is also survived by a host of family and friends who learned throughout his illness about true courage and dignity. He left this world a true gentleman. Mrs. Margaret Avinell Pauley
Mrs. Margaret Avinell Pauley, 82, of Ona, WV, went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 24, 1999, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, WV. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 26 at Antioch Baptist Church, Ona with her Pastor Bill Davis and Minister Pete Davidson officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Avinell was born at Fullerton, KY, on Feb. 13, 1917. She was a daughter of the late James H. and Maude Owens Duncan. Avinell was a member of and pianist for the Antioch Baptist Church for 51 years. She and her husband owned and operated Pauley’s Grocery Store on Fudge Creek. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lewis R. “Ray” Pauley; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Lowell Johnson; one son, James W. Pauley, all of Ona; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Beth Ann Bentley Robinson
Beth Ann Bentley Robinson, 34, of Culloden, wife of Timothy Robinson died Monday, November 15, 1999 in Putnam General Hospital. She was a homemaker. Also surviving are her mother, Bethel Ann Long Bentley of Oak Hill; one son, Eric Christopher Robinson of Culloden; and one brother, David Bentley of Hurricane. Funeral Friday, November 19, 1999 at Bartlett Burdette Cox Funeral Home, Charleston; burial in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Jeffery “Jeff” Kent Ray
Jeffery “Jeff” Kent Ray, 37, of Milton, WV, formerly of Grant Avenue, Dayton, OH, passed away on November 9, 1999, after an extended illness. He is survived by his parents, George and Phyllis “Boots” Lucas of Milton; faithful aunt, Pauline Scarberry of Milton; special friend and loved one, Robert Baker of Dayton, OH; special friend Mary Baker of Dayton, OH, and a host of additional friends. A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, November 11th at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville. Querry's Mortuary in East Huntington, WV, was in charge of arrangements.

Pearl Ross
Pearl Ross, 86, of Huntington, passed away November 22, 1999, at Heritage Manor, Huntington. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, November 24,.1999, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born April 13, 1913, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Henry and Cassie Ross. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James R. “Jim” and Linda Ross of Barboursville; two sisters, Leona Christman of Huntington, and Jewell Parsons of Charleston; three grandsons, James Ross, Jr. and his wife, Laura, Michael Ross, and Jason Ross; two great-granddaughters, Samantha and Jamie Ross. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Macil G. Reed
Macil G. Reed, 86, of Hurricane, widow of Irving “Smitty” Reed, died Wednesday, September 15, 1999 in Morris Memorial Nursing Home. She was the retired owner and operator of University Market, 3rd Avenue, Huntington. Survivors include two nephews, Ronald Gillenwater of Dorchester, Mass., and Russell Harris of Hurricane; and two nieces, Carol Gillenwater of Dorchester and Dorothy Harris of Hurricane. Funeral Friday, Sept. 17th at Allen Funeral Home. Burial in Lincoln Memorial Park.

LaVeda Tatum Raines
Mrs. LaVeda Tatum Raines, 73, of Barboursville, passed away Monday, September 6, 1999, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, September 9, 1999, at Henson Mortuary with the Rev. Jay Tatum officiating. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. She was born August 9, 1926, in Huntington, WV, a daughter of the late David Edgar and Christine Worley Tatum. She was a former employee of Owens-Illinois and was a member of the Baptist Temple, Huntington. Survivors include her husband, Charles Lee Raines; two sons, William Steven Raines of Broadway, N.C., and Terry Allen Raines at home; two daughters, Michelle Crane and Cynthia Mahle, both of Rochester, N.Y.; one sister, Jesse Fitzpatrick of Huntington; three brothers, William Tatum of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Cecil Tatum of Woodbridge, Va. and Robert Tatum of Leesburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Amy Parsons, Julie Kelly, Adam Raines, Christine Raines and Michael Raines; four great grandchildren, Gary Parsons, Jr., Andy Parsons, Drew McVey and Taylor Raines; and special nieces Patricia Timler and Judy Dean.

Harry E. Rimmer
Harry E. Rimmer, 68, of Barboursville, died ‘Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999 at his home after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 21 1999 at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Reverend Buddy Muncy and Reverend Caudle Adkins. Burial in Milton Cemetery. He was born Dec. 13, 1930 in Milton, a son of the late Roy and Edith Johnson Rimmer. He graduated from Barboursville High School and Marshall University. He was a retired lab supervisor with Goodyear Tire and Rubber. Harry was a veteran of the U.S Army, serving our country in Post-WWII Germany. He attended Rock of Ages United Baptist Church. Harry was an avid hobbyist and had many interests, especially the natural sciences and U.S. history. He was particularly interested in studying the Civil War and had collected many books and artifacts. He is survived by five sisters Juanema Warden and Juanita Jeffrey, both of Barboursville, Joyce McCormick of Milton, Ruth Lewis and Mary Jane Rimmer, both of Huntington; two brothers, Albert Rimmer of Ona and Bob Rimmer of Lexington, Ky., all of whom he loved very deeply.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Harry was a loving godfather to Gabe Muncy, Sarah Damron and Katie Damron, his great-nephew and great-nieces. They adored him and considered him to be one of the best parts of their lives. Harry also leaves behind a host of friends and co-workers who enriched his life. “ God loves a cheerful giver”, and Harry Rimmer was a cheerful giver who recognized that the true reward of this life is in the giving. He gave fully of himself and of his resources, never expecting anything in return. Harry, God will reward you richly. His family feels blessed to have had him in their lives here on earth and look forward to their eternal reunion. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to his longtime physician, Dr. David Patick as well as Dr. Mallioux, Dr. Rose, Dr. Kimmey, Dr. Denning, the nursing staff and ancillary personnel of St Mary’s Hospital and the angels from Hospice of Huntington, who made his transition to death a peaceful and nearly painless event shared in a meaningful way by his friends and family. This will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, contributions were made to Hospice of Huntington. Pallbearers were Dr. Tim Damron, Mr. Jack Warner, Mr. Jim Jeffrey, Mr. Scott Alan Rimmer, Mr. Steve Warden, and Mr. Rodney Warden.

Donald A. Ray
Donald A. Ray, 69, of Bradenton, FL, formerly of Huntington, WV, died Friday, June 11, 1999, in Bradenton. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 16,1999, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Brother Anthony Francis, OSFC and the Rev. Jay Tatum. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born February 23, 1930, in Cabell County, a son of the late Pat and Bertha Martin Ray. He was a general foreman, retired from CSX after 39 years of service; a member of the Minerva Lodge, #13, A.F.&A.M.; Guyandotte Chapter No. 10, R.A.M., Huntington Commandery No. 009, Knights Templar, Huntington, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and Beni Kedem Temple, Charleston, WV. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Norman Ray. He is survived by his wife, Eileen Perry Ray; one daughter, DonEllen Ray of Huntington; one son, Jack Ray of Bradenton, FL; two brothers, Wendell Ray of Huntington and Carroll Ray of Barboursville; and two sisters-in-law, Patsy and Joyce Ray of Barboursville. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. JAMES LAWRENCE "ROBOT" ROBERTSON
James Lawrence "Robot" Robertson, 68, of Milton, died Monday, April 12, 1999, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 16th at Milton Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Patton officiating. Burial followed in Lunsford Cemetery, Milton, WV. He was born May 19, 1930, at Huntington, WV, the son of the late Opie Lawrence and Louise Burdette Robertson. He was retired from Owens Illinois as a machine operator. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Robertson. Survivors include his wife, Eilean Fisher Robertson of Milton; two daughters Tracy Lynn Robertson and Erma "Babe" Robertson; one son, Larry Robertson; and his stepson, Rex Clagg; three sisters, Eloise Smith, Patricia Napier and Judy Hall; and one brother Willie D. Robertson. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Britney Clagg and Danny, Jessica and Justin Robertson; one great-grandson, Nicholas Robertson; and one aunt, Ruby Robertson. He had two very special friends, Oscar Carl Rice and Johnny Ray Hedrick.

Okey Melvin Rose
Okey Melvin Rose, 80, of Somerset, Ohio, formerly of Barboursville and Clendenin, died Sunday, May 30, 1999, in Lancaster Fairfield County Medical Center, Lancaster, OH. Graveside services were conducted Thursday, June 3, 1999 at the West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton, WV. He was born January 9, 1919, in Clendenin, a son of the late Richard P. and Lettie Huffman Rose. He was retired from Columbia Gas and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jones Rose; one daughter, Sandra Jose of Somerset: one son, Michael Rose of New Concorde, OH: two sisters, Ruth VanBuskirk, of Kenton, OH, and Bessie Tittle of Tad, WV. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville was in charge of arrangements.

Eldon C. Ross
Mr. Eldon C. Ross, 72, of Madison Creek Rd., Branchland, WV, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 8, 1999, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Robert Hatfield. Burial in Ross Cemetery, Madison Creek Rd., Salt Rock. He was born July 7, 1926, in Cabell County. a son of the late Lee and Vilora Parsons Ross. He was a US Army Veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict, a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient; and a member of the Green Valley Church. He was preceded in death by one brother, Hersel Ross and two sisters, Elsie Lucas and Ever Stephens. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ruth Holton Ross; one son, Matthew Ross of Branchland, two stepsons, Philip Key of Salt Rock and Robert Key of Phoenix, Arizona; one step-daughter, Vickie Bailey of Salt Rock; two sisters, Wilma and Naomi Keyser, both of Salt Rock; one granddaughter, Brittany Ross of Barboursville; four step-granddaughters, and four stepgrandsons; three step-great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Thomas J. Smith
Thomas J. Smith, 59, of Barboursville, died Friday, December 3, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 6,1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. David Cardwell. Burial in Baylous Cemetery. He was born October 24,1940 in Cabell County, a son of the late Kenneth E. and Hazel Lewis Smith. He is survived by his wife, Karen Crank Smith; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and Harry Hill, Jr. of Barboursville, Angie and Steven Conrad of Loris, South Carolina; two sisters, Gladys Hinkle and Kathy Black, both of Culloden; four brothers, Gene Smith, Bob Smith and Rickie Smith, all of Barboursville and Jimmy Smith of Culloden; five grandchildren Dustin Hill, Jeremy Hill, Joshua Conrad, Caitlin Conrad and Candace Conrad; and an extra special “Buddy”, Brian McCallister. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Warner H. Sowards
Warner H. Sowards, 64, of St. Albans, husband of Betty Sowards, died Saturday, December 25, 1999 at home. He was a truck driver for Rush Trucking. Also surviving are his mother, Emalene Sowards of Ona; two daughters, Brenda Morrison and Cindy Morrison, both of St. Albans; two sisters, Donna Bowen of Lovely, Ky. and Sue Chapman of Ona and one brother, Lee Sowards of Barboursville. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at Allen Funeral Home; burial in Culloden Cemetery.

Charles T. Smith
Charles T. Smith, 71, of Deerfield Plantation, Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Huntington, WV, passed away Friday, Dec. 24, 1999 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. He was born June 26, 1928, a son of the late Charles Thomas and Oma Fry Smith. While living in Huntington, WV, he was a member of Highlawn Church of Christ, Huntington, where he taught the Adult Sunday School Class, was also the Bible School Superintendent, Chairman of the Board, a Deacon and an Elder. He was retired from Smith Transfer, Huntington, after thirty years of service. After moving to Myrtle Beach, SC, he became a member of the First Baptist Church of Surfside Beach, where he was a member of the JOY Sunday School Class. He was employed by Prestwick C. C. until January of this year. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Lynn Barrett; sisters, Betty Roberts and Frances Hopkins. Surviving are his wife, Betty L. Hainor Smith; one granddaughter, Catherine Barrett Horton and her husband, G. Shane of Surfside Beach, SC; two brothers, John and Herb Smith of Ohio; three sisters, Lou Jean Unroe of VA, Faye Fritz of Oregon and Elsie La Cross of Washington; sister-in-law, Dolly Steel of KY. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Minister John Hays. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington.
