Mr. Shannon G. Jaynes
Mr. Shannon G. Jaynes, 73, of Barboursville, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 8, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 11, 2000, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Brian Wray. Burial in Enon Cemetery. He was born May 22, 1926, in West Hamlin, a son of the late Jesse and Grace Scraggs Jaynes. He was retired from CSX after 42 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army and was a member of V.F.W. Post #1064, Huntington. He is survived by his wife, Rose McComas Jaynes; two daughters, Sandi Jaynes of West Hamlin, and Bridgette Jaynes of Barboursville; one sister, Patty Chapman of Barboursville; and one brother, Raymond Jaynes of Hamlin, WV, and a host of friends in Guyan Estates and West Hamlin.

William Joseph “Bill” Wise
William Joseph “Bill” Wise, 61, of Culloden, husband of Dee Meadows Wise, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000 in St. Mary's Hospital. He was retired from welding products department at Inco Alloys. Funeral was held Friday, March 10, 2000 at Freedom Baptist Church, Milton; burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Ann Tudor Bledsoe
Shirley Ann Tudor Bledsoe, 54, of Milton, passed away Friday, March 10, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, March 12 at Heck Funeral Home, with the Reverends Russell Adkins and William Cassady officiating. Burial in Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock. She was born Nov. 3, 1945, in Lincoln Co., WV, a daughter of the late Clyde and Naomi Kincaid Tudor. She is survived by her husband, Leon Bledsoe, to whom she was a loving and devoted wife; one sister, Judy Elaine Lovin of MI; one niece, Paula Leface of FL; two nephews, Teddy and Patrick Walls, both of MI; one aunt, Louise Adkins of GA; one cousin, Cindy Gilmore, of MI.

Daniel Ingram Rolfe
Daniel Ingram Rolfe, 77, of Barboursville, went home to be with the Father Saturday, March 11, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at Hebron Missionary Baptist Church by Pastor Carl Merritt. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born February 3, 1923 in Barboursville, a son of the late James Walter and Amy Peyton Rolfe. He was retired from the US Air Force and was a member and deacon at Hebron Missionary Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Frances May, Beulah Ledman, Elsie Morris and Stella Ashworth; and two brothers, Denver Rolfe and Gilbert Rolfe. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Adkins Rolfe; one son, Jamie Rolfe of Barboursville; and one sister, Virginia Scarberry of Ona. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville was in charge of arrangements. Military graveside rites were conducted by VFW Post # 9738, Guyandotte.

George Allen Shell
George Allen Shell, 83, of Huntington, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2000 at his home. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at the Monaville Community Church, Monaville, WV by Pastor Ted Wilburn. Burial in Curry Cemetery. He was born June 20, 1916 in Martin County, Kentucky, son of the late David and Alta McCoy Shell. He was a retired coal miner. He is survived by his wife, Vesta Ooten Shell; two daughters, Marie Lowe and Sue Hooser, both of Huntington; four sons, Kelly Shell of Huntington, Luther Shell and his wife, Debbie, Russell Shell and his wife, Brenda, all of Logan, and Roger Shell of St. Petersburg, Florida: one granddaughter, Christina Shell; four grandsons, Larry Lowe, Michael Shell, Jonathan Shell and Brian Shell; two great-grandchildren, Gabrille Shell and Alex Shell; and three step-great-grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Herman H. Humphreys
Herman H. “Monk” Humphreys, 69, of Hurricane died February 26, 2000, at home.
He was a retired crane operator from H.K. Porter Steel, Huntington.
Surviving: daughters, Diana Edwards and Regina Bird, both of Hurricane; sister, Norma Jean Ashworth; brother, Bud Bagsby of Texas; four grandchildren.
Service was held March 1, 2000 at Calvary Apostolic Church, Hurricane. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Pansy F. Wears
Pansy F. Wears, 73, of Pliny died February 27, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital.
She was a retired waitress.
Surviving: sisters, Fern O'Neil and Jewell Scites, both of Pt. Pleasant, Freda Rawlings of Pensacola, Florida, Irene Sanders and Doris Boster, both of Nitro, Geraldine Raynes of Poca, and Nina Wright of Winfield; brothers, Jack and Weldon Wears, both of Pliny; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held March 1, 2000 at Deal Funeral Home, Pt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Mike Rader officiating. Burial was in Mount Union Cemetery, Pliny.

T. Virginia Pettit
T. Virginia “Ginny” Robinson Pettit, 89, of Scott Depot, formerly of Charleston, died February 27, 2000, in Sunbridge of Putnam Nursing Home after a short illness.
She was a homemaker and a former member and pianist at Sixth Street United Methodist Church, Charleston. She was a lifelong resident of the Kanawha Valley.
Surviving: daughter, Catherine Calhoun of Hermitage, Pennsylvania; sons, Kenneth A. of Lexington, Kentucky and Michael W. of Culloden; sister, Marguerite Robinson Collard of Nitro; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one great-great-grandson.
Service was held March 1, 2000 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Timothy Dixon officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Mildred I. Shamblin
Mildred I. Shamblin, 76, of Red House died February 29, 2000, at the home of her daughter, Kathleen Haynes of Charleston, after a long illness.
She was a homemaker, a Christian and a native of Romance. She attended Grandview Baptist Church, Red House, and Kanawha Two Mile Gospel Tabernacle.
Also surviving: daughter, Linda Wiggins of Red House and Rose Martin of Martinsburg; sons, Ronald of Carbondale, Colorado, Gerald of Newburg, Indiana and Steven of Liberty; sisters, Sylvia Marion of Romance and Delva Tolbert of Sissonville; brothers, Owen Haynes of Romance and Austin Haynes of Reno, Nevada; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Service was held March 2, 2000 at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville, with the Rev. John Hensley and Pastor Matthew Eichhorn officiating. Entombment was in Floral Hills Garden of Memories Mausoleum, Sissonville.

Clinton L. Childers
Clinton Lee Childers, 53, of St. Albans, formerly of Putnam County, died February 28, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving: wife, Pamela A. Childers; daughters, Shaina D. Baldwin of Yorktown, Virginia and Kasie D. Childers of St. Albans; son, Colin M. at home; mother, Mable B. Childers of Hurricane; sisters, Doris Lapinskas of Cleveland, Janet Beaver and Cathy Johnson, both of Hurricane, and Ellen McCrackin of Scott Depot; brothers, Larry of Hurricane, Carl and Timothy, both of Winfield; one grandson.
Service was held March 2, 2000 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Pastor Monte McCune officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane.

Robert H. Gillispie
Robert H. “Cobb” Gillispie, 61, of Poca, formerly of Florida, died March 1, 2000, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a long illness.
He was a former employee of Bradenton (Florida) Window and Door Co.
Surviving: daughters, Jackie Navarro and Angie Reedy, both of Charleston and Wanda King of St. Albans; sons, Harold, Robert and Joseph Gillispie, all of Florida, Steve, Ronnie and Gary Casto, all of Michigan, Scott Reedy of St. Albans, and Donnie Reedy of Virginia; sister, Freda Welch of Winfield; brother, Mark Sr. of Poca.
Service was held March 4, 2000 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Willard Beller and Paul Arthur officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.

Sybil Lehr
Sybil Hudson Lehr, 87, of Scott Depot died March 1, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church and Scott Depot Extension Homemakers.
Surviving: sister, Beulah Hudson of Lynchburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Bonnie Green of Kennewick, Washington, Glen Smith of Las Vegas and Brian Smith of Jackson, Georgia; eight great-grandchildren.
Service was held March 4, 2000 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Lee White and the Rev. Jeffrey Johnson officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. The family suggests memorial donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 900 Lee Street E, Charleston WV 25301.

James L. Stover
James L. “Red” Stover, 74, of Buffalo died March 3, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
He was a retired track maintenance employee for Conrail with 30 years' service and a member of Turkey Branch Community Church, Robertsburg.
Surviving: wife, Delores “Janie” Runion Stover of Red House; daughter, Donna Smalley of Poca; sons, James L. “Smokey” Stover of Nitro, Thurman D. Stover of Red House and Harold Ray Stover of Leon; stepdaughter, Marcella Gibbs of Sarasota, Florida; stepsons, Boyd Walker of Robertsburg, Keith Lyons of Winfield and Greg Lyons of Eleanor; sisters, Lorena Roger of Baltimore, Josephine Williams and Ruth Bea Jividen, both of Eleanor, and Jo Ann Smith of Red House; brothers, Howard “Tom” Stover, Arthur Dale Stover and Bob Stover, all of Buffalo, and Jerry Stover of Nitro; 10 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service was held March 6, 2000 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Arliss Blackshire and the Rev. Pete Cobb officiating. Burial was in Walker Chapel Cemetery, Robertsburg.

Roy Bennett
Roy Bennett, 90, of Liberty died March 4, 2000, at home after a short illness.
He was a retired truck driver for the state Department of Highways with 12 years' service and a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
Surviving: daughters, Dottie Fisher and Ruth Ann Starcher, both of Liberty, and Deanna Burnside of Hometown; niece, Mauna Fay Warner of Grove City, Ohio; nephew, Sonny Bennett of Liberty; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Service was held March 7, 2000 at Emma Chapel United Methodist Church, Liberty, with the Rev. John Taylor and the Rev. Joe Scarberry officiating. Burial was in Emma Chapel Cemetery. Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert H. Miller
Robert H. “Bob” Miller, 69, of Hurricane died march 5, 2000, in Genesis Elder Care Nursing Facility, Teays Valley, after a long illness.
He was a retired postal employee. He attended Charleston Mountain Mission and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was active in coaching various sports activities in the South Charleston area.
Surviving: wife, Dora Lee Miller; son, Stephen Wayne Miller of Mooresville, North Carolina; sister, Betty Litton of Clendenin; two grandchildren.
Service was held at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, with the Rev. William F. Williams officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Memorial donations may be made to Charleston Mountain Mission, Seventh Avenue and Stockton Street, Charleston WV 25312.

Larry M. Venoy
Larry M. Venoy, 49, of Huntington, passed away Friday, March 3, 2000 at his home. Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 6, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Robert Winters. Burial in Enon Cemetery. He was born October 28, 1950 in Barboursville, a son of Eltha Keenan Venoy of Huntington and the late Paul M. Venoy. Also surviving are two sisters, Reta Adkins of Radcliff, KY and Kathy Mitting of Roann, IN; three brothers, Keith Venoy of Cincinnati, OH and Marvin Tommy Venoy and David L. Venoy, both of Huntington.

Celia Jane Mullins
Celia Jane Mullins, 90, of Huntington, WV, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000 at her residence. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Craig Coster on Monday, March 6, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville. Entombment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born on September 8, 1909 in Pikeville, KY, a daughter of the late Asbury and Margaret Martin. She is a member of Primitive Baptist Church, N. Charleston, WV. She is survived by her husband, Solomon Mullins; two sons and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kay Mullins, and Donald Mullins, all of Huntington; one sister, Matilda Bradford of Pikeville, KY; one brother, Tom Martin of Pikeville, KY; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Tony August Costa
Tony August Costa, 78, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Barboursville, WV, died Sunday, March 5, 2000 at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at Henson Mortuary, Pea Ridge, WV, with Rev. Joseph L. Peterson officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born June 12, 1921 in Mangualde, Portugal, a son of the late, John and Mary DeCosta Costa. He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII and he retired from the Army Reserve after 26 years of service. He was also an employee of the U.S. Postal Service, Huntington. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Paw Taw Square Dance Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Peter J. Costa. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Marie Riley Costa; two sons and one daughter-in-law, John A. Costa of Charlotte and Joseph M. and Terry D. Costa of Boynton Beach, Fla.; one sister, Adeline Maresca of New Haven, Conn.; one brother, Raymond V. Costa of North Haven, Conn.; one niece, Judy Paes of New Haven, Conn.; four grandchildren, Carrie and Anthony Costa of Boynton Beach, Fla.,, Kathryn Costa of Charlotte and Selena Jobe of Huntington; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Vickers of Boynton Beach, Fla. Donations may be made to Presbyterian Hospice or Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church Building Fund, Charlotte.
