Luther Finley
Mr. Luther Finley, 80, of Milton, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Henson Mortuary by the Rev. Daryl Docterman. Burial in Zoar Cemetery, Milton. He was born January 5, 1920, in Milton, W.Va, son of the late John and Tena Conner Finley. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Europe during WWII, and was a retired millwright from Conner Steel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Mae Jackson Finley; two sons, John Steven Finley and Thomas Luther Finley; three sisters, Clodean Finley, Ninah Finley and Anna Hatfield and his stepmother, Ruby Lamb Fitzwater Finley. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Kim Finley; one daughter, Jane Finley; one daughter-in-law Penny Finley; three sisters, Emmalene Finley, Imogene Dailey and Inez Burch; three stepsisters to whom he was also close, Hazel Finley, Vada Sharpe and JoAnn Chapman; two stepbrothers, Charles Fitzwater and Johnnie Fitzwater; two grandchildren, Gregory John and Whitney Lee Finley; two step-grandchildren, Chris and Sheena Chapman; and special cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and caregivers. Donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington or Hospice of Lincoln County.
Rev. Gordon Leon Meadows
Rev. Gordon Leon Meadows, 67, of Shady Palms Retirement Home, 14527 N. Florida Avenue, Tampa, Fla., formerly of Milton, W.Va., quietly slipped the bonds of this earthly pale and triumphantly entered into the eternal presence of Jesus Christ, his loving Lord and Savior, on Saturday, February 26, 2000, at James Haley Veterans' Hospital, Tampa, Fla. Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 3, at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, W.Va., by Rev. Sam Morris and Rev. Bobby Dailey. Graveside services were conducted by Rev. Mark Finley, Rev. Alan Farley, and Huntington VFW Post #9738 Honor Guard. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park at Huntington. “Brother Gordon” was born on March 25, 1932, at Huntington W.Va., a son of the late Lawrence and Pearl Lucas Meadows. He attended both Lincoln Elementary and Junior High Schools in Huntington, was a 1949 graduate of Huntington East High School, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Marshall College in 1957. He was a retired employee of Huntington Alloys Inc., with 37 years service. He was ordained into the ministry in April 1962 at 26th Street Baptist Church, Huntington, W.Va. During his ministerial career, he pastored congregations in both the Guyandotte and Twelve Pole Missionary Baptist Associations of the West Virginia Baptist Association, provided chaplain services at the Huntington City Mission, and conducted countless protracted evangelistic meetings throughout southwestern West Virginia.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the 303rd and the 824th Tank Battalions during the Korean War. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, the Huntington Chapter INCO Quarter Century Club, American Legion Post #16 in Huntington, John Lesley Camp #1282- Sons of Confederate Veterans in Tampa, and was most recently a recipient of the National Defense Medal awarded by Tampa Chapter #13- United Daughters of the Confederacy for military service during the Korean War. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Stephanie Meadows of Huntington; his daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Jerry Davis of Barboursville; one brother, Orbura Meadows of Huntington; three sisters, Alma Hicks of Joppatown, Md., Amzon Mays of Louisa, Ky., and Georgia Legg of Flat Rock, W.Va.; and a host of other loved ones.
Emery Lane
Emery Lane, 93, of Culloden, WV, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 3, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Junior Smith officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born June 2, 1906, in Scott County, VA, a son of the late Lizzie Lane. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mollie May Sword Lane on June 15, 1965, and by his son, Samuel Earl Lane on March 13, 1962. He was a retired coal miner, Logan County, WV. After retirement, he worked for Potters Nursery, Barboursville. Survivors include his nephew, Paul and Mary Christian of Culloden; three great nephews, Paul Christian Jr. and Andy Christian, both of Culloden, and Cecil Christian of Macon, GA.
Reba J. Hall
Reba J. Hall, 74, of Culloden, wife of Mont Hall died Wednesday, March 1, 2000 in Putnam General Hospital. Also surviving are her mother, Lena Jimison Smith of Hurricane; one sister, Ruth Edwards of Culloden; and one brother, Benny Smith of Ravenswood. Funeral services were held Friday, March 3, 2000 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; burial in Trace Fork Cemetery, Lincoln County.

Luther Finley, 80, of Milton, widower of Nellie Mae Finley, died Wednesday, March 1, 1999, at home. He was a millwright for Conners Steel. Survivors include one son, Andy Finley of Huntington; and one daughter, Jane Finley of Milton. Funeral services Saturday, March 4, 2000 at Henson Mortuary; burial in Zoar Cemetery. Henson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Merrell C. Sigman
Merrell C. Sigman, 67, of Red House died February 21, 2000, at home after a short illness.
He was retired from Ravenswood Aluminum with 17 years' service, a former employee of American Viscose, Nitro, a former construction worker, a member of United Steelworkers, an Army veteran and a Christian.
Surviving: wife, Patsy Harrison Sigman; daughter, Vicki Honaker of Red House; son, Mickey of Red House; sister, Bettie Riffee of Dayton, Ohio; brothers, Mayford of Liberty and Milford of Cross Lanes; three grandchildren.
Service was held February 23, 2000 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Nyle Fisher and Todd Casto officiating. Burial was in Center Point Cemetery, Liberty.
Logan Gorman
Logan “Bud” Gorman, 77, of Poca, formerly of Oklahoma, died February 21, 2000, in Betty's Personal Care Home, Nitro, after a long illness.
He was a graduate of Oklahoma State University, a retired accountant from Union Carbide, Institute, with 32 years' service, a Navy veteran of World War II and a Methodist.
Surviving: daughter, Cathy Forbes of Nitro; sister, Wilma Ater of Liberal, Kansas; grandchildren, Shanda Forbes Harris of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Brian Forbes of Nitro; one great-grandson.
Service was held February 24, 2000 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Ray Humphrey officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Woodi R. Grant
Woodi R. Grant, 59, of Winfield died February 21, 2000, at Memorial Division, CAMC, after a short illness.
She was a health-care provider and a homemaker.
Surviving: husband, Denver J. Grant; daughters, Cindi J. Lawson and Virginia M. Priestley, both of Hurricane; stepson, Justin Denver Grant of Lewisburg; stepdaughters, Cheryl Campbell of Culloden, Terrie Humphrey of Cross Lanes, Barbara Owens of Poca, and Alisha Fisher of Red House; stepfather and mother, Carl and Alma Hogue of St. Albans; sisters, Soni Kessinger of Winter Springs, Florida, Jean Huffman of Charleston, Earlene Hymen of Princeton, and Stephanie Swanson of South Charleston; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Service was held February 24, 2000 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with minister Paul Meadows officiating. Burial was in the Grant cemetery.
Donna Jean Abbassi
Donna Jean Lerzo Abbassi, 41, of Poca died February 25, 2000, in General Division, CAMC, after a sudden illness.
She was a teacher at Bible Center Day Care, Charleston, and attended Bible Center Church, Charleston.
Surviving: husband, Hossein Abbassi; daughter, Sheena Abbassi of Poca; parents, Jimmy and Edaniah Lerzo of Madison; brothers, Don Lerzo and Tony Lerzo, both of Madison; sister, Terry Ann Walker of Alum Creek.
Service was held February 27, 2000 at West Madison Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn R. Thornton and Pastor Peter R. Faulkner officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Park, Danville. Handley Funeral Home, Danville, was in charge of arrangements.
Irene Craddock
Irene Hooper Craddock, 81, of Poca died February 25, 2000, in General Division, CAMC, after a short illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Poca, a retired schoolteacher from Putnam County Board of Education with 36 years' service, having taught at Poca Elementary School. She was a member of WVEA, Retired Teachers Association and Poca United Methodist Church.
Surviving: husband, Lewis D. Craddock; daughters, Joyce Purdy of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jan Hudson of Quinby, South Carolina and Debbie Grant of Winfield; son, Lewis Dwight “Buzz” Craddock Jr. of Eleanor; sisters, Doris Cawley, Juanita Martin and Dorothy Woodall, all of Poca; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Service was held February 28, 2000 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Steven J. White and the Rev. Norvell Robinson officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.
Sharon May
Sharon May, 68, of Hurricane, formerly of Huntington, died February 25, 2000, in Hurricane after a long illness.
She was a retired employee of Allied Chemical and a member of Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church, Huntington.
Surviving: daughter, Lynn Clay of Hurricane; son, Michael May of Jamestown, North Carolina; sister, Patricia Mays of Spring Valley, California; three grandchildren.
Memorial graveside service was held February 28, 2000 in Woodmere Memorial Park, Hurricane. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.
Agnes Zitzelsberger
Agnes Zitzelsberger, 83, of Poca died February 24, 2000, in St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, after a short illness.
She was a former employee of Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bancroft, where she belonged to the Women's Guild. She was a 72-year resident of Putnam County.
Surviving: daughter, Mary Cavender of Poca; son, Robert of Poca; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Service was held February 28, 2000 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. Dean Borgmeyer officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.
Beatrice Stout
Beatrice E. Adkin Stout, 88, of Hurricane died February 24, 2000, at home.
She was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church, Hurricane, and a native of Charleston.
Surviving: daughter, Patricia L. Sizemore of Hurricane; sisters, Ella Lou Myers of Deltona, Florida, Charlotte Gregory of Deland, Florida and Helen “Mickey” Snodgrass of Marmet; one grandson.
Graveside service was held February 27, 2000 at the Adkin family Cemetery, Charleston, with Jim McGhee officiating. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, was in charge of arrangements.
