Gregory Giles Ballengee, 51, of Hurricane died April 14, 2000, at home.
He was a service manager for Midway Ford, a former employee of Dutch Miller Lincoln Mercury, Harvey Shreve Ford and Moses Ford. He was past president of the Parts Service Club.
Surviving: wife, Diana Ballengee; daughter, Rachel Ballengee; father, Frank of Atlanta; brother, Kevin of Kenova; sister, Euna Lee Ballengee of Atlanta.
Service was held April 17, 2000 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Pastor David E. Clark officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Memorial contributions may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Olivia Rae Jividen
Olivia Rae Jividen, 2-month-old daughter of K.L. and Kandy M. Jividen of Hurricane died April 13, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
Also surviving: stepbrothers, Tommy Jividen of Cross Lanes, Robbie Jividen and Travis Jividen, both of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Larry Michael Jividen of Poca; maternal grandmother, Mary Lou Oxley of Hurricane.
Graveside service was held April 16, 2000 at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane, with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Johnson and Pastor Lee White officiating. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Hancil E. Martin
Hancil E. Martin, 70, of Buffalo died April 13, 2000, from injuries received in a bulldozer accident at the John Amos fly ash pond and landfill, off U.S. 35, according to Putnam County Sheriff's deputies.
He was retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 132, Charleston, with 38 years' service. He was a member of the Buffalo Sportsman Club and a lifelong resident of Buffalo
Surviving: wife, Jean Johns Martin; sons, Roger A. of Sylvania, Ohio and Joe of Buffalo; sisters, Helen Harmon, Mae Belle Whittington and Geraldine Johns, all of Buffalo, and Gladys Wandling of Nitro; brothers, Kenneth Martin and Gilbert Martin, both of Buffalo; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Service was held April 16, 2000 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Mike Tucker officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Park.

David E. Null
David E. “Tony” Null, 63, of Poca died April 13, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was retired from American Electric Power River Division with 32 years' service. He attended Poca United Methodist Church and was a lifelong resident of Poca.
Surviving: wife, Ava Lee King Null; daughters, Betty Jean Gallagher of Elyria, Ohio and Catherine Ann Warren of Richmond, Virginia; sons, Danny Jewell Sayre of Ovapa and David Wayne Null at home; sister, Mary Harper of Poca; brother, William Null of Buffalo; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Service was held April 17, 2000 at Poca United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen J. White and the Rev. Henry Johnson officiating. Burial was in King Cemetery, Poca. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Luther K. Rumbaugh
Luther K. Rumbaugh, 84, of Hurricane died April 14, 2000, in Buffalo.
He was a former mayor of Hurricane. He retired from Union Carbide and was a member of Hurricane First Baptist Church, a Mason and a lifelong resident of Hurricane.
Surviving: wife, Bernice; daughters, Nancy Noffsinger of Buffalo and Becky Powell of Cincinnati; sons, Tom of O'Brien, Florida and John of Tucson, Arizona; brothers, Dudley and Alvin, both of Hurricane; sisters, Elizabeth Davis and Myrtle Rumbaugh, both of Hurricane, Meredith Macleery of Luling, Louisiana, and Martha Lee Smith of Nokomis, Florida; seven grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; nine great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service was held April 18, 2000 at Hurricane First Baptist Church with minister Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrgangements.

William Eugene “Gene” McMillian
William Eugene “Gene” McMillian, 84, of Milton, WV, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in Chattanooga, TN, after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 15 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Keith Leap officiating. Burial in the Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Gene was born in Logan Co. on Nov. 2, 1915. He was a son of the late Floyd and Virginia Bowles McMillian. Gene was also preceded in death on May 21, 1985, by his wife, Maudie Powell McMillian. He was a member of the Milton United Methodist Church, serving on the adminstrative board and retired from Worldwide Equipment, Barboursville. Gene is survived by two sons, John William McMillian of Dalton, GA, and Morris Eugene “Mac” McMillian of Charleston; three grandchildren, John William “Chip” McMillian of Milton, June Ann Wheeler of Atlanta, GA, and Everett Eugene McMillian of Dalton, GA; one sister, Leah McMillian, and one brother, Floyd Edwin McMillian, both of Milton. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Milton United Methodist Church, Milton, WV 25541 in lieu of flowers.

Raymond E. Adkins
Raymond E. Adkins, 68, of Roanoke, VA, formerly of Culloden, WV, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 11, 2000, in Lewis Gale Medical Center, Salem, VA. Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 14 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, WV, with Rev. Mark Finley officiating. Burial in Maupin Cemetery, Ona, WV. Raymond was born in Wayne Co. on March 2, 1932. He was a son of the late Henon and Zeba Lemmings Adkins. Raymond was also preceded in death on April 17, 1992, by his wife, Catherine M. Adkins. He was a former dispatcher for the Hurricane Police Dept and a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army. He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Ann Cazad of Roanoke, VA, and Michelle Adkins of Huntington; two granddaughters, Amanda and Trista Smith; one sister, Dorothy Moore of Penn. and three brothers, Cecil, Harry and Jimmy Adkins, all of Florida. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.

Cynthia L. Chafin
Cynthia L. Chafin, 59, of Milton, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 13, 2000, at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, Huntington, with the Rev. Ed Hood officiating. Private burial in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. She was born August 10, 1940, in Logan, W.Va., daughter of the late M.R. “Chick” and Virginia Donevant Chafin. She was a resident for many years of Green Acres. Survivors include one brother, Don C. Chafin and his wife Angela of Holly Springs, N.C.; one uncle, John C. Chafin of Huntington, W.Va.; one aunt, Julia Jean Gilmore of Melbourne, Fla.; and four nieces, Sherrie Eucker of Columbus, Ohio, Dawn Rasmusson of Sacramento, Calif., and Victoria Sauber of Delaware, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Green Acres, P.O. Box 240, Lesage, WV 25537.

Kathleen Jarrell Lawson
Kathleen Jarrell Lawson, 79, of Huntington passed away Friday, April 7, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 14, 2000, at Henson Mortuary with Rev. Mitchell Bias and Rev. Dana Sutton officiating. Burial in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va. She was born May 13, 1920, in Branchland, W.Va., a daughter of the late John B. and Virginia Bannister Jarrell. She was a retired teacher in Mingo County and was a member of Delbarton Church of God. Three sisters and seven brothers also preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Drexil Eugene Lawson; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gene and Jeannie Lawson of The Woodlands, Texas, and John Lawson of Columbia, S.C.; one daughter, Drexena Dilley of Huntington; five grandchildren, Greg, Todd and Angela Lawson, Elizabeth and Mary Ellen Dilley; two step-grandchildren, Todd and Denise Anderson; and three great grandchildren, Cade Laroe Lawson and Michael and Emily Anderson. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association and American Lung Association.

Bradford Allen Browning
Bradford Allen Browning, 72, of Barboursville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 11, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 14, 2000, at Elmwood Baptist Church in Martha by Pastor Rick Glass and Rev. Bob Browning. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. He was born October 11, 1927, in Cabell County, a son of the late J. Roy and Gladys Mae Allen Browning. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and was retired from INCO. He was a faithful member of Elmwood Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over thirty years. Bradford was preceded in death by his wife of forty-seven years, Helen Jean Maddox Browning, a son, Timothy Roy Browning, a great grandson Robert Dakota “Cody” Skaggs, two sisters, Rosanna Dawson and Ruth Ganoe, and a brother, Daniel L. Browning. He was a devoted, loving father and best friend to his surviving children, Kathy Lynn Skaggs, Steven Allen and Pamela Browning, and Elizabeth Ann and Brian George. He was a loving grandfather to Amy, Lori, Robbie, Sarah, Stephanie, Kristi, Erica, Misty Dawn and Brian. Great-grandchildren include Brianna, Rebecca, Alexis, Brandon, Anthony, Justin, Alison, Chase and Jacob. Additional survivors include his three brothers and their wives, Jim and Clodine Browning, Donald and Velma Browning, Bob and Peggy Browning; two sisters, Emogene Galloway, Charlotte Curry and her husband Bill; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim and Pam Maddox, Bob Maddox, Garfield Ganoe, Ray Leep and many other brothers and sisters in Christ. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Deacons of the church served as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Elmwood Baptist Church Building Fund. Bradford always set a Christian example and will continue to be an inspiration to us all.

Virginia C. Crookshanks Scott
Virginia C. Crookshanks Scott, 64, of Indianapolis, formerly of Milton, died Thursday, April 6, 2000 in St. Francis Hospital, Beech Grove, Ind. She was a retired music education teacher at Abraham Lincoln Elementary, Indianapolis. Survivors include one son, Jeffrey B. Scott of Indianapolis; and one daughter, Jennifer Whickersham of Martinsville, Ind. Funeral was held Monday, April 10, 2000 at Singleton & Herr Mortuary, Indianapolis; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Indianapolis.

Louise Evelyn Manchester
Louise Evelyn Manchester, 75, of Salt Rock, WV, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2000 at her home. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, April 11, 2000 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Winford Curry officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born in Cabell Co., WV, on Feb. 15, 1925, a daughter of the late Walter and Willie Mae Cyrus Bledsoe. She was also preceded in her death by her husband, Leondard Carlton Manchester, five brothers, Richard, Basil, Emery, Hersel and Burt Bledsoe; five sisters, Lethea Hatfield, Sadie Miller, Mamie McCallister, Violet Venoy and Lena Brumfield; one granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Manchester. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary Stephen and Cheryl Manchester of Salt Rock, Timothy and Connie Manchester of Milton and Kevin Manchester of Salt Rock; eight grandchildren, Brent and Brian Manchester, Michael and Lilly Manchester, Stephen and Michelle Manchester, Scott and Mellissa Manchester, Bobby Sothan, Lynn Montgomery, and Hope Lintz; four great-grandchildren. Heck Funeral Home, Milton was in charge of arrangements.

Donald Wayne Meadows
Donald Wayne Meadows, 52, of Glenwood, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2000 in St. Francis Hospital, Blue Island, IL. Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 10, 2000 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Lesage, WV. He was a truck driver for Core Carriers. He was a former Cabell County school bus driver. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Payne Meadows: his mother, Maxine Berry Meadows of Lesage; two daughters and sons-in-law, Krista and Kirk Carter and Tiffany and Scottie Cobb, all of Glenwood, WV; one step-daughter, Sarah Payne of Huntington; one step-son, David Harshbarger of Huntington; one sister, Brenda Elder of Huntington; two brothers, Gary and Jerry Meadows, both of Lesage; four grandchildren, Joshua Carter, Lyndsey Carter, Miranda Cobb and Morhgan Payne. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

William Edward Richards
William Edward Richards, 78, of Huntington, WV, died Thursday, April 6th at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, by Dr. John H. Niles, minister of Enslow Park Presbyterian Church. Mr. Richards was born April 10, 1921, at Blair, WV. A son of the late Harold and Grace Richards, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sue Richards. He was a graduate of Marshall University and then served his country during W.W.II in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Corsair pilot. He was a prominent leader in the automobile and aviation business. He was owner and operator of the Huntington Downtown Airport and was appointed Executive Director of the West Virginia State Aeronautical Commission serving under Governor Arch Moore and Jay Rockefeller. He was a member of the Tri-State Airport Authority, member of the American Legion Post 16, member of VFW Post 1064, and a member of Enslow Park Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Evelyn E. Richards; one son, William O. “Ric” Richards, his wife Jan of Raleigh, North Carolina, and their children, Jessica, Grant and Shelby; one daughter, Amy Louise Salyer, her husband Jim of Warrenville, Illinois, and their two children, Jim and Jacquie; one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Nance Richards of Tucson, Arizona; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Bart Robbins of Wilmington, Delaware; and many close friends. Memorial contributions in Bill's name may be made to the Huntington City Mission, or the charity of one's choice. Honorary pallbearers were C.E. Weatherall, S. Brooks Dean, David Baker, Dr. Kirk David, William Fish and John Dial. Beard Mortuary, Huntington, was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Grove Cochran Dawson
Margaret Grove Cochran Dawson, 83, of Barboursville, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 8, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel Barboursville, by Dr. Jerry Warren. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. She was born March 27, 1917 in Barboursville, a daughter of the late Herman S. and Eva D. Black Grove. She is survived by one son, Robert Cochran of Cleveland Heights, OH; two sisters, Mahala Grove Flaugher and Mrs. Loris Jefferson; one brother, Gene T. Grove; one sister-in-law, Joan Grove, all of Barboursville; two grandchildren, Shawn Cochran and Kelli Mayos, and her husband, Greg; and four great grandchildren, Megan Mayes, Brittany, Ashley, and Alicia Cochran; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary McKinney Fugate
Mary McKinney Fugate, 62, of Milton, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000 in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington. A memorial service was conducted on Thursday, April 6, 2000 at the Milton United Methodist Church. She was born Aug. 18, 1937 in Grafton, WV, a daughter of the late Randall H. and Leon Heavner McKinney. She was a retire Milton Middle School teacher. She was a member of Milton United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Samuel Tyler “Todd” Fugate; one son, Todd Fugate of Zanesville, OH; one daughter and son-in-law, Randalee and Thomas DeJong of Milton, WV; two sisters, Joan Ott of Stephens City, VA and Joyce Nail of Gore, VA; one brother, Randall McKinney, Jr. of Wheeling, WV; one grandson, Emmett Tyler DeJong; and her mother-in-law, Velma Browning Fugate of Milton. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Cancer Society, 1336 Hal Greer Blvd., Huntington, WV 25701 or to Hospice of Huntington, P.O. Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709.
