Mansel Grant
Mansel Grant, 79, of Hurricane died March 30, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.
He was a retired chemical operator from Monsanto, a retired minister and a member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Eastern Star and Shriners. he was an Army veteran of World War II and a Mason.
Surviving: daughters, Jean Kirby of Greenwood, Indiana, Vivian Roberts, Ruth Koontz and Cecelia Browning, all of Culloden, Pat Alford and Sandra Arthur, both of Milton, Carolyn Parsons of Red House, Debbie Bass of Charleston, and Mary Ashby of Ozark, Missouri; sister, Irene Chapman of Culloden; brother, Dana Grant of Tampa, Florida; 24 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service was held April 2, 2000 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Jay Mace and the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.
Anna Mercer
Anna Foster Mercer, 75, of Hurricane died April 2, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Surviving: husband, James “Sam” Mercer; son, Jim Foster of Grove City, Ohio; brothers, Benjamin and Beuford Coleman, both of Huntington, Arthur Jr. and William Coleman, both of Milton; sisters, Ethel Gibson of California and Orma Vanater of Hurricane; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Service was held April 5, 2000 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial was in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.
Cecil Clagg
Cecil Clagg, 78, of Milton, WV, went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 31, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 2 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Paul R. Meadows and Rev. Ted Nance officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Cecil was born near Milton on March 16, 1922. He was a son of the late J.E. “Pap” and Vernice Jordan Clagg. Cecil was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet McCallister and a sister, Hazel Fellure. He was retired from the J.E. Clagg Building Supply Co., Milton. Cecil is survived by his wife, Eileen Clagg; five children, Ray of Lesage, Diana of Ona, Judy of Florida, Danny and Stella Clagg of Beech Grove, TN, and Kathi and Steve Adams of Milton; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mabel Edwards; three brothers, Paul Clagg, Roy Clagg, one special “Little Brother” and sister-in-law, Darrell “Duke” and Betty Clagg, all of Milton. Pallbearers were George Robinson, Jeff Foster, Jeff Meadows, Roger Fellure, Jim Clagg and Danny Cerio. Honorary pallbearers were Leon Ramey, Bob Ragland, Grant Vance, Mike Kessel, Charlie Mullins and Gary Mullins.
Richard Eugene “Rich” Fulks
Richard Eugene “Rich” Fulks, 63, of Milton, husband of Marion Gibson Fulks, died Thursday, March 30, 2000 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was a retired lock and dam operator for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Also surviving are two daughters, Robin Stark of Nebraska and Connie Wineland of Grayson, Ky.; and two brothers, Charles “Bill” Fulks of Point Pleasant and Ralph Fulks of Vinton, Ohio. Memorial service was held at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; burial Sunday, April 2, 2000 in Rome Cemetery, Rome Township, Ohio.
Hazel Marie Venoy
Hazel Marie Venoy, 87, of Ona, WV, passed away Friday, March 31, 2000, in Huntington. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with the Rev. James Jefferson officiating. Burial in Templeton Cemetery, Glenwood, WV. She was born May 28, 1912, in Ona, WV, a daughter of the late Armster and Nettie Sheets Kingery. She was also preceded in her death by her husband, Henry Venoy; three sisters, Bertha Shaffer, Ethel and Herman Kingery; two brothers, Gilbert and Carney Kingery. She was a homemaker. She attended Lawrence Chapel, Milton. She is survived by two brothers and one sister-in-law, James Kingery of Chesapeake, OH, and Thomas and Helen Kingery of Huntington; one sister, Pearl Weaver of Marion, OH; one sister-in-law, Ruth Kingery of Milton, WV; her caregivers, Jenny Lucas and Juanita Adkins; a very special friend, Jeannie Blake; and several nieces and nephews. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.
Willard L. Gooderham
Willard L. Gooderham, 84, of Huntington, loving husband of Mildred Gooderham, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, March 30, 2000. He was born January 12, 1916, in Huntington, a son of the late Grant and Lottie Ray Gooderham. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Benson and Ezra Gooderham. He was retired from International Nickel Company and had served his country during WWII in the US Army and CC Camps. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Mildred Moore Gooderham; two sons, David Gooderham and his wife Mary of South Point, Ohio, Lloyd Gooderham and his wife Sue of Huntington; two daughters, Marilyn Leffingwell and her husband Bill, and Virginia McClure, all of Huntington; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Conley of Huntington and Susie Grass of St. Albans; and many friends. Private services were conducted for family only. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.
Halie Eplin
Halie Eplin, 95, of Huntington, WV, departed this life March 31, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, to sleep in the arms of Jesus. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 2, 2000 at the Bethlehem United Baptist Church on Raccoon Creek, of which she was a member for 81 years, by Elder Heron Adkins and Elder Truman Adkins. Eulogy was given by Len Eplin. Burial in Marion Adkins Cemetery. She was born October 15, 1904 in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Marion and Letha Johnson Adkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewell Eplin in 1945. She was the last descendent of the Marion Adkins Family, and was preceded in death by six sisters, Maudie Adkins, Esta Stevens, Lizzie Adkins, Alvie Colegrove, Gladys Adkins and Polly Adkins; three brothers, Elba Adkins, William Adkins and Herman Adkins. Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Letha and Elder Ray Adkins of Huntington, Myrtle Colegrove of Columbus, Lillian Estep of Barboursville, and Louise and Marvin Taylor of Southgate, MI; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Leonard and Joyce Eplin of Columbus, OH, Donald Eplin of Sterling Hts., MI, and Burgess and Libby Eplin of Barboursville; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; and special friends, Cleo Simpkins and Sue Adkins. Grandsons served as pallbearers. The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of Huntington, Rite Aid Pharmacy in Guyandotte, Dr. Skeens and the Staff of 5th floor of St. Mary's Hospital for their kindness. Nettie Mabel Luster
Nettie Mabel Luster, 110, of Barboursville, went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 31, 2000 at Mariner Health Care. Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 3, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Dr. Gary Patton. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park. She was born February 28, 1890 in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Rev. Rush and Mary Elizabeth Cowan Patterson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Luster. She is survived by a very special nephew, George Palmer, who cared for her during the last several years of her life; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Margaret Regina “Peggy” Brickey
Margaret Regina “Peggy” Brickey, 57, of Ona, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2000 at her home. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Dr. R. Jackson Haga. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born October 3, 1942 in Philladelphia, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Margaret Tuson Proctor of Huntington and the late Robert J. Proctor Sr. She was a career counselor at Marshall University. She was a member of Marshall Community College Business Advisory Board, Goodwill Business Advisory Board, Salvation Army Board, member of SHRM, member of Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce, member of West Virginia Association of Career and Employment Professionals, the Career Technical Center Advisory Board, a member of Highlawn Presbyterian Church where she was an officer of a circle, and was Vice President/Manager of Manpower, Inc. She was active in Junior Womens Club of Barboursville and was the fine person under sixteen to be awarded a superior rating at the State of New Jersey Music Festival which led to her love of singing on a professional and amateur basis. She was also active in community service such as Cancer Walk. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Gene Brickey. She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Brickey of Ona; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Tonya Brickey of Beaumont, Texas, who are expecting Peggy's first grandson, Dawson Brickey; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy C. and Tod Bobo of Cleveland, Mississippi, and Bettyanne and Andrew Green of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers and sister-in-law, Robert J. and Margie Proctor, Jr. of Robert Park, California and Thomas Fred and Genessa Proctor of Miami, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

Christeen Rose Ansell Holland
Christeen Rose Ansell Holland, 93, of Huntington WV, went home to be with Jesus, Saturday, April 1, 2000 at her residence. She is at long last on the streets of Glory, singing, shouting and praising Jesus for eternity. She was a faithful member of the House of Prayer Church, Altizer, WV. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by her friend in Christ some thirty years, Pastor Patricia Easthom. She was born September 30, 1906, in Millersport, Ohio, daughter of the late Abraham and Lilly Rosalind Bennett Ansell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Joseph T. Holland, a grandson, Gary Holland, six brothers, Johnny, Marion, George, Lonzo, Lenny, and Otho Ansell; four sisters, Ada, Zella, Lena and Nola Jane Ansell. She was the last of the Abraham Ansell Family. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Edna Holland of Lesage, WV, a daughter and son-in-law, Juanita Holland Fife and her husband, Robert V. Fife Sr. of Huntington, WV; nine grandchildren, Betty Fife Cashdollar and husband, Richard of Barboursville, WV, Joanne Holland of Dallas, TX, Linda Holland Hager and husband, Kirt of Springfield, OH, Robert Fife Jr. and wife, Sheila of Lesage, WV, Rhonda Fife of Huntington, WV, Rose Fife of Huntington, WV, Darlene Fife Johnson and husband, Mitch of Dallas, TX, Cheryl Adkins and husband, Dale of Huntington, WV, and Brian Holland of Lesage;
fifteen great-grandchildren, David Cobb, Stephanie Cobb, Vincie Fife, Amanda Hager Dillow, Jessica Hager, Heather Cashdollar Adkins, Susan Cashdollar, Tarrah Fonduck, Jennifer Booten, Jeremy Winters, Alena Adkins, Andrea Fife, Alisha Fife, Adam Holland, Chris Holland; and one great-great-grandson, Nathan V. John Earl Woodall
John Earl Woodall of Milton, WV, departed this life Thursday, Mar. 30, 2000 in Lincoln County Continuous Care, Hamlin after a long illness. He had attained the age of 91 years, 8 months and 5 days. Earl was born in Lincoln Co. on July 25, 1908. He was a son of the late John F. and Lucy Ellen Martin Woodall. Earl was also preceded in death by three brothers, Darrell Woodall, John “Shorty” Woodall and Clyde Woodall and on Mar. 12, 1975 by his wife, Virginia Looney Woodall. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church; a former employee of Blenko Glass and a farmer. Earl is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia and Richard McComas and Wilma Jean Mitchell all of Milton; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Graveside funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 1 in Milton Cemetery with Rev. Chelcie Gibson officiating. Heck Funeral Home, Milton was in charge of arrangements.
Jackie Dale Hayes
Jackie Dale Hayes, 41, of Culloden, WV, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2000, at his home. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, April 1 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. B. Clee Egnor officiating. Burial in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane, WV. Jackie was born in Cabell Co. on Oct. 14, 1958. He is a son of Shirley Neal Hayes of Milton and the late Harold Hayes. Jackie was a carpenter for Hager Home Builders, Scott Depot, WV, and a member of the Moose Lodge, Milton. Survivors in addition to his mother are his wife, Ella Hysell Hayes; one daughter, Kirsten Nichole “Nichi” Hayes at home; three sisters, Deborah Ross of St. Albans, Cheryl Stratton and Penny Keaton, both of Milton; and one brother, Danny Hayes of Milton.
