Mr. Henry C. (Bud) Patterson, 78, of Huntington, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, by Pastor Tom Swartzwelder and Rev. Harry Scarberry. Burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Bud was born January 15, 1922, in Meadowbrook, W.Va., a son of the late Lori H. and Gay Greathouse Patterson. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII in the 99th Infantry Division, and was in the Battle of the Bulge and earned a Bronze Star. He retired from the former C&O Railroad in Russell, Ky., with 37 years of service and was a member of the 26th Street Baptist Church, Western Star Lodge #11 A.F. & A.M., whose members were pallbearers and conducted Masonic graveside rites, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Ruth McDougal. Survivors include his wife, Joann Chapman Patterson; a son Darrell Keith Patterson of Huntington; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Mary Patterson from Paden City, W.Va.; an aunt, Thelma Greathouse of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles Robert Rhodes, Jr.
Charles Robert Rhodes, Jr., 62, of Barboursville, passed away June 14, 2000, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 17, 2000, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Buddy Muncy. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born August 23, 1937, in Belpre, Ohio, a son of the late Charles Rhodes and Edith Mae Barr Rhodes Boone. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mae Isaac Rhodes; his twin sons, Charles Robert Rhodes and Chad Everett Rhodes, both of Barboursville; and one sister, Shirley Boone of Belpre, Ohio. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

William Austin Nance
William Austin Nance, 78, of Huntington died Monday, June 12, 2000, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Graveside services were conducted Friday, June 16, 2000, at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden by the Rev. Tom Nolan. He was born May 14, 1922, in Ona, W.Va., a son of the late Russell and Nellie M. Warden Nance. He was retired from the Boeing Company and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. He is survived by one sister, Althea Smith of Allison Park, Pa.; one brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Sita Nance of Petersburg, Va.; and a devoted friend, Charlotte Collins of Huntington. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Fay Varney
Fay Varney, 76, of Huntington passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2000, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 16, 2000, at Henson Mortuary by the Rev. Larry Greene. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born April 13, 1924, in Meta, Ky., son of the late Simeon and Daisy Phillips Varney. He a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving in World War II, was an agent with Appalachian Life Insurance Co., was president of National Brokers, and member of the Board of Directors of Appalachian Life. Mr Varney was also a member of River Cities Community Church, a life member of VFW Post 9738, a life member of American Legion Post 177, life member of B.P.O.E. Elk Lodge 313, member of Moose Lodge 1613 in Williamson and Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonel. Survivors include his wife, Norma D. Hatfield Varney; one son, Jack L. Varney of Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Sandra F. Varney of Cincinnati, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Linda Montgomery of Hartsville, S.C., and Carole Christian of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Veronica Sheaf of Akron, Pa.; three brothers, George Varney of Beckley, Russell Varney of Floresville, Texas, and Cleophas Varney of Hardy. Donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington.

Lenore Qualls
Lenore Qualls, 69, of Culloden, W.Va., passed away Friday, June 9, 2000 at Putnam General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 12, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville. Burial in Forest Memorial Park. She was born February 21, 1931 in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late Elby and Gracie McComas Frye. She was retired from Morris Memorial Convalescent and Nursing Home after 25 years of service, and former owner of Pam’s Tropical Tans, Milton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Qualls, one daughter, Patricia Elder, one son, William Qualls, one sister, Anna Frye, and one brother, Thomas Frye. She is survived by one daughter, Pamela Vannatter of Culloden; one son, Michael Qualls of Milton; one sister, Dora Venoy of Milton; two brothers, Elby Frye Jr. and Ottis Frye, both of Ona, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Mariam Stewart
Mariam Stewart, 64, of Huntington, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2000 at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation. Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 12, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel. Burial in Bowen Cemetery. She was born August 18, 1935 in Logan, W.Va, a daughter of the late Saliem and Stella Seaback. She was a former employee of Huntington City Mission. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Cristine and David Bowen of Barboursville, and Crystal Stewart of Logan, W.Va.; one son, Craig Stewart of Pikeville, Ky.; one brother, William Seaback of Cleveland; and five grandchildren.

Leo Cardwell
Leo Cardwell, 70, of Huntington, died Thursday, June 8, 2000 at Heritage Center. Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 12, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Pastor Paul Meadows. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born August 13, 1929 in Salt Rock a son of the late Lonnie and Hettie Gue Cardwell. He was retired from Owens-Illinois. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Jennings Cardwell. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Charlotte and Dana Rider of Rock Hill, S.C., and Myra Cheek of Huntington; his former wife, Doris Cardwell; one brother, Donald Cardwell of Huntington; four grandchildren, Shawn Jeffrey Cheek, Philip Jeremy Cheek, Jaclyn Beth Rider and Jamie Michelle Rider; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Christopher. Carvel Gillispie, 71, of Barboursville, passed away Monday, June 5, 2000 in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 8, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Rick Glass. Entombment in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born August 17, 1928 in Huntington, a son of the late John Nye and Emmer Jane Davis Gillispie. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Meadows; and one brother, Ivan Gillispie. He is survived by his wife, Dora May Morrison Gillispie; five daughters, Madora Gillispie, Malinda Gillispie and Marisa Gillispie, all of Barboursville, Donna Jean Burns of Henderson, N.C., and Elizabeth Pratt of Huntington; one son, Charles Wayne Gillispie of Ona; one sister, Luceil Sexton; one brother, Ira Gillispie and one brother-in-law, Lee Meadows, all of Huntington; six grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Phyllis J. Krosky
Phyllis J. Krosky, 63, of Hurricane, formerly of St. Albans, died June 6, 2000, at home after a long illness.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving: husband, Joseph C. Krosky of Heurricane; daughters, Christine Conley of St. Albans, Judy Caldwell and Teresa Krosky, both of Hurricane; sister, Mary Campbell of Culloden; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Service was held June 9, 2000 at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans, with the Rev. Richard Mallory officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Danny R. Miller
Danny R. Miller, 41, of Hometown died June 6, 2000, at home after a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Hometown and was a Christian.
Surviving: wife, Sandra Miller; daughter, Danielle Moore at home; son, Derick at home; mother, Mildred Cox Miller of Hometown; sisters, Marietta Allison of Poca, Nita Sheldon of Nitro, Donna Jones of Hometown, and Debbie Hulsizer of Milton, Pennsylvania; brothers, Harvey and Larry, both of Flint, Michigan, and Terry of Hometown.
Service was held June 9, 2000 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Kenny Roberts and the Rev. Tommy Legg officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.

Clara Mae Handley
Clara Mae Handley, 91, of Hurricane died May 25, 2000, in Teays Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.
She was a retired farmer and a homemaker. She was a memaber of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Hurricane, a lifelong resident of Putnam County.
Surviving: daughters, Deloris Jo Doss, Jeanne Daubner, Ida Watson and Dona Fewell, all of Hurricane, and Kathleen Frame of Dunbar; sisters, Georgia Glenn of Winfield and Jessie Foreman of Oklahoma; brother, Handley Long of Hurricane; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Service was held May 28, 2000 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Johnson officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane.

Isabell Goddard
Isabell Buck Goddard, 82, of Buffalo died May 30, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.
She was a riverboat employee and a member of Buffalo Senior Citizens. She was of the Nazarene faith.
Surviving: daughter, Alberta Goddard of Buffalo; brother, Carl Buck of St. Albans; grandchildren, Linda Kirk, Michael Goddard, Marvin Powell and David Powell, all of Buffalo, and Clifford Powell of Leon; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held June 2, 2000 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Rick Legg and the Rev. Arles Covert officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Park.

Viola Elizabeth Nichols, 78, of Milton, formerly of Pilot Mountain, N.C, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 31, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral service were conducted 8 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Heck Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Ashworth officiating. Graveside service Friday, June 2,2000, in Sulphur Springs Cemetery, Pilot Mountain, North Carolina. She was born July 22, 1921, in Kanawha County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Ira Leslie and Eva Ashley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Nichols; one daughter, Wanda Kay; seven brothers and sisters, Immodore, Immojean, Ruby Kay, Lenna, John, Mary Jane and Clarabee. She is survived by one daughter, Margaret Ann Lilly of Huntington; seven brothers and sisters, Burl Ashley of Clendenin, W.Va., Wilma Young of Elkview, W.Va., Harry Ashley of Akron Ohio, Ray Ashley of Cross Lanes, W.Va., Carolyn Zornes of Tucson, Ariz., Earn Ashley of Greensboro, N.C., and Pat Petite of Seaside, Calif.; two granddaughters, Renee Neal of Milton and Deanna Day of Barboursville and five great-grandchildren.

Deborah Elizabeth Trump
Deborah Elizabeth Trump, 80, of Huntington, went home to be with the Lord May 30, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 2, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Michael Hayes and Pastor Richard Tanner. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born February 1, 1920, in Logan County W.Va., a daughter of the late Franklin Joseph and Blanch Elizabeth Thomas O'Lynn. She attended Second Guyandotte Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev Jack Trump; one brother, Bob 0'Lynn and one sister, Ruth Ross. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and David Martin of Barboursville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Marcella O'Lynn of Barboursville, William and Nancy Tanner of Cape Coral, Fla., and Pastor Richard and Jennie Tanner of Barboursville; three sisters, Reba Karnes and Gloria Moncer, both of Huntington, and Blanch Elliotte of Proctorville; two brothers, Van O'Lynn of Ft. Mahala Cremeans Ferguson, 94, of Salt Rock, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 3, 2000, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Rev. Russell Gue and Rev. David Cardwell. Burial in Baylous Cemetery. She was born May 14, 1906, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Hiley and Leiu Brock Cremeans. She was a retired employee of Quality Bedding and a member of Madison Creek United Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Early W. Ferguson, and one daughter, Norma Tufts. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Winnie Hemlepp of Ashland, Ky., and Genevieve and Henry (Red) Clay of Huntington; four sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth W. and Joan Ferguson of Barboursville, Glenn D. and Naomi Ferguson of Cocoa, Fla., Jerry and Jan C. Ferguson of West Hamlin and Hugha L. and Alice Ferguson of Salt Rock; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Grandsons were pallbearers. The family would like to thank Dr. Triplett, the fifth floor of St. Mary's Hospital and Heritage Manor for their loving care. Dennis F. Persons
Dennis F. Parsons, 78, of Huntington, husband of Virginia Baker Parsons, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, June 1, 2000, in Heritage Center, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Chapman's Mortuary, with Minister George Erwin officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va. He was born May 22, 1922, in Lincoln County, W.Va, a son of the late Guy and Della Pinson Parsons. He was a retired employee of Coffman and Hart Construction Co. He was a member of Norway Avenue Church of Christ, and was a veteran serving with the U.S. Army during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marzella L. Parsons; five brothers; and four sisters. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Della and Randy Meadows of Proctorville, Ohio, and Drema and Frank Thurman of Lavalette, W.Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger L. and Barbara Parsons of Milton, W.Va.; two sisters, Madlien Sloan of Kenova, WV, Pearl Jean Runyon of Ashtabula, Ohio; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Military graveside rites were conducted by the 130th Air Wing, West Virginia National Guard, Charleston W.Va. Chapman's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Raymond C. “Tom” Porter
Mr. Raymond C. “Tom” Porter, 55, of Huntington, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 4, 2000 at Henson Mortuary by the Rev. Harlan Esque. Burial in Rome Cemetery. He was born December 9, 1944, in Huntington, a son of the late Walter and Aileen Ferguson Porter. He was a former employee of the city of Huntington and the West Virginia Department of Transportation. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Porter of Germany and Barry Porter of Alabama; three sisters, Pamela Cremeans of Huntington, Fonnie Smith of Barboursville and Sylvia Miller of Carroll, Ohio; and three brothers, Charles Porter and Phillip Porter, both of Lavalette, and James Porter of Huntington. The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to a special friend who treated our brother like his own brother, the Rev. and Mrs. Harlan Esque, for their support and spiritual advice we will always remember. To a special friend, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Gillespie, whom with their support his passing was made easier. To Mr. and Mrs. Denny Lowry for their support and special sacrifices over the years for his children. To Hospice of Huntington, for their compassion and care. Joseph Herbert Wallis
Joseph Herbert Wallis, 84, of Huntington, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2000 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Memorial services were conducted Monday, June 5, 2000 at Bates Memorial Presbyterian Church with Revs. Dana Sutton and Jean Sutton officiating. He was born October 15, 1915 in Huntington Park, CA, a son of the late Bonnie H. And Lula B. Larimore Wallis. He was an electrical communications engineer with B&O and C&O Railroads. Survivors include his wife, Caroline desGranges Wallis; two sons, Joel Herbert Wallis of Birmingham, Iowa and Donald desGranges of Lookout Mountain, TN; one sister, Morraine Welmers of Nashville, TN; and four grandchildren, Chasie Wallis, Corinne Briggs Wallis, Joseph MacGregor Wallis and Jennifer Elizabeth Wallis. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington. Henson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis Wanda Adkins
Phyllis Wanda Adkins, 68, of Huntington, passed away June 2, 2000. Graveside services were conducted Monday, June 5, 2000 at Baylous Cemetery, by Rev. Jim Asbury. She was born November 8, 1931 in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Ottie Sharp and Rosa Myrtle Bowen Adkins. She was a long-time member of Grace Gospel Church. She was a graduate of Romney School for the Deaf, retired from Huntington Dress Factory, and belonged to the Huntington Association for the Deaf. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois M. Adkins and Eura Mae Cremeans; one brother, Tilman Adkins; one niece, Bonnetta Foster; and one nephew, Danny Lee Adkins. She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ottie Adkins, Jr. and Glenna M. Adkins of Huntington and Vernon and Iris Lea Adkins of Beaver Creek, OH; nieces and nephews, Phyllis Ann Harless, David Allen Ferguson, Kelvin Ferguson, Eddy Adkins, Hilda Lynn Ferguson, Charlotte Ann Roush, Linda Kay Wichman, Jeanne Ellen Strottner and Novis Dale Adkins; several great-nieces and great-nephews, and her special friends in the Huntington deaf community. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Deaf Ministry at Grace Gospel Church, Huntington.

Olive Marie May, 90, of Barboursville, died Sunday, June 4, 2000. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Bob Browning. Burial in Hatfield Cemetery. She was born Sept. 18, 1909, in Roane County, WV, a daughter of the late John L. And Sylvia Goldsmith Fogg. She was a seamstress. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Roscoe May; and one son, Robert May. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Eva and Damon Hooser of Vermilion, Ohio, and Alice May of Barboursville; one son and daughter-in-law, Vermil L. and Juanita May of Midkiff; two sisters, Gertrude Comer and Eloise Richardson, both of Dunbar, W.Va.: six grandchildren, Joel May and his wife, Deliah of Midkiff, Bobby May of Barboursville, Bill May and his wife, Tammy of Barboursville, John Hooser and his wife, Sheila of Sandusky, Ohio, Sid Hooser and his wife, Dawn of Elyria, Ohio, Alicia Marie May and her fiancee, John Long of Shippensburg, Pa.; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Sue and Kimberly Marie Hooser of South Bend, Ind., and Tabitha, Will and Melissa May of Barboursville; and her very good friend, Mildred Lusher of Barboursville. Allie Virginia Birch Setliff, 86, of Barboursville, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 3, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 6, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Allie was born in Cabell County, W.Va., June 24, 1913. She was the daughter of the late John and Sadie Chapman Birch. She was also preceded in her death by her husband, Luther Herbert Setliff on Feb. 2, 1992, and three brothers, Virgil, Hershey and Harold. She was a member of Sousannah Baptist Church of Fudges Creek Road. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Jean and Carl “Duke” Childers of Barboursville, Lucy and Floyd Scarberry of Culloden and Judy and Glen Johnson of Barboursville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Mary Setliff and Roger and Patty Setliff, all of Barboursville; one sister, Alberta Payton of Barboursville; nine grandchildren and their spouses; six great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

William M. “Mike” Morning
William M. “Mike” Morning, 60, of Culloden, W.Va, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital after a sudden illness. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Milton Cemetery. He was the owner of Mike's Gunshop for 20 years, and retired from the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers. He was born December 1, 1939, in Huntington W.Va., to William Morning and the late Tina Smith Morning. Also surviving are his wife, Opal Newman Morning; two sons, Tech Sgt. James M. Morning USAF and wife Sonya Jill Morning of Stephens City, Va., and Tim L. Morning of Culloden; one daughter, Diana L. Davis and husband Tony Davis of Milton; two grandchildren, Jessica and Juliet Morning of Stephens City; and one brother, David L. Morning and wife Brenda of Ona. Milton Funeral Home, Milton was in charge of arrangements.

Jeannine Young Blazer
Jeannine Young Blazer, 69, of Barboursville, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Pastor Bill Winters. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born July 24, 1930, in Huntington a daughter of the late George Edward and Aileen Smallridge Young. She attended Marshall University and was a graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing. She served 32 years at various nursing administration positions and retired in September 1993 from Cabell Huntington Hospital as Director of Nursing Education. She is survived by her husband, Bill Blazer; one son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Allison Blazer of Virginia Beach, Va; one sister, Deloris Young of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Lou Young of Dayton, Ohio; two grandchildren, William Blazer and Catherine Blazer, and three nieces, Beth, Lori and Lou Ann.

David W. Miller II
David W. Miller II, 53, of Charleston, W.Va., died Sunday, June 4, 2000. He was a son of the late David W. “Jack” Miller I. Mr. Miller was a service technician with Diebold Inc. He was a member of Steele Memorial United Methodist Church in Barboursville, W.Va. He was also an assistant Scout Master for Troop 5 and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a member of the Roundtable Committee of the Mountain Rifle District of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his mother, Vaughn G. Miller of South Charleston, W.Va.; one daughter, Sarah E. Howell of Christiansburg, Va.; two sons, David W. Miller III of Winfield, W.Va, and Jonathan L. Miller of Charleston; one brother Frederick L. Miller of Charleston, W.Va., and his fiancee Cindy Lynn Braley of Barboursville; one grandson, Michael E. Howell of Christiansburg, Va; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Thursday, June 8, 2000, at Bartlett Burdette Cox Funeral Home with Dr. Ed Grant officiating. In lieu of flowers family requested donations be made to Steele Memorial United Methodist Church, 733 Shaw St., Barboursville, WV or to Buckskin Council, 2829 Kanawha Blvd. E., Charleston, WV 25311.

Freer Escue
Freer Escue, 80, of Scott Depot died May 29, 2000, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a short illness.
He was a member of Pine Grove Church of Christ, Scott Depot, a lifelong resident of Putnam County, a retired carpenter from American Viscose/FMC, Nitro, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving: daughter, Nancy Erb of Scott Depot; grandchildren, JeanMarie Erb and Brandon Erb, both of Scott Depot.
Service was held June 1, 2000 at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with ministers, Michael Moore and Jay Eckhart officiating.

Alice J. Hager
Alice J. “Jan” Hager, 55, of Hurricane died May 25, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, after a long illness.
She waa a 10-year employee of the State Police and a real estate agent for Old Colony Real Estate. She was a 31-year resident of Hurricane and a member of Judson Baptist Church, Bills Creek, Winfield, and DAV.
Surviving: husband, James L. Hager; son, Scott A. Hager of Prichard; daughter, Honey Pendleberry of Hurricane; mother, Virginia Jarrell of Palatko, Florida; sisters, Karen Haire of Palatko, Sandra Tapley of Richmond, Kentucky, Jo Ann Munoz of Jacksonville, Florida, and Shelia Cook of Ocala, Florida; brothers, Barry Jarrell of Palatko and Dale of Key West, Florida; two grandchildren.
Service was held May 28, 2000 at Judson Baptist Church, Winfield, with the Rev. Fred McCallister officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, PO Box 3980, Charleston WV 25339-3980 or the American Cancer Society, Kanawha County Unit, 2428 Kanawha Blvd. E., Charleston WV 25311.

Virginia M. Gibbs
Virginia M. “Ginny” Gibbs, 73, of Bancroft died May 25, 2000, at home.
She was a retired director of Putnam County Community Action with 33 years' service and a member of Putnam County Democrat Club, American Federation of Democratic Women and VFW Auxiliary. She was a charter member of Bancroft Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving: daughter, Patricia Babcock of Bancroft; son, W.E. “Bill” Bostic of Chesterfield, Virginia; sister, Janet Fisher of Poca; brothers, Harold “Hub” Cunningham of Manchester, Tennessee and Billy Joe Boggess of Northport, Alabama; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Service was held May 28, 2000 at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor John Taylor officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Red House. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Millard Jordan
Millard “Francis” Jordan, 57, of Buffalo died May 25, 2000, at home.
He was a former employee of American Viscose, Nitro, and Kaiser Aluminum, Ravenswood. He was a Methodist and an Army veteran.
Surviving: mother, Nora Jordan of Buffalo; father, William E. Jordan of Millersport, Ohio; sisters, Nancy Hopkins of Eleanor and Linda Rectenwald of Hurricane; brothers, William F. of Pt. Pleasant, Robert and James M., both of Buffalo.
Service was held May 28, 2000 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Denver Tucker officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Park.

Donald M. Douglass
Donald M. Douglass, 80, of Buffalo died May 31, 2000, at home after a long illness.
He was an employee of G.L. Hulbert General Store with 15 years' service and a retired farmer. He was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church and a Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
Surviving: wife, Clara Ann Hulbert Douglass; daughter, Donna Absten of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; brother, Agriculture Commissioner Gus R. Douglass of Leon; grandchildren, Timothy J. Absten and Tamara J. Vachio, both of Reynoldsburg, and Christopher L. Absten of Pataskala, Ohio; five great-grandchildren.
Service was held June 3, 2000 at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Joe Hatcher officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.
