Anna Elizabeth Stapleton Harbour
Anna Elizabeth Stapleton Harbour, 76, of Salt Rock, wife of Wilden Darrell Harbour, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 12, 2000. Funeral services were Saturday, July 15, 2000, at Salt Rock United Methodist Church with Pastors David Cartwright, James Jobe and Manford Cass Hutchinson. Burial in Enon Cemetery. She was born September 12, 1923, in Logan County, a daughter of the late Luther Jackson and Mary Ann Wheatley Stapleton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marion “Marti” Harbour, three brothers, Charles, Edward and Naaman Stapleton, and two sisters, Opal Lockerman and Audrey Comer. Anna was a long standing member of Salt Rock United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother to three sons, Wilden “Darrell” Harbour II, Donavon Carroll Harbour and his wife Beverly, and Richard Keith “Rick” Harbour and his wife Sandi, all of Salt Rock; five grandchildren, Wilden Harbour and his wife Tina, Beth Ann Harbour, Jim Harbour and his wife Angela, Jason “J.R.” Harbour and Travis Harbour, all of Salt Rock; three great-grandchildren, Alex Harbour, Makayla Harbour and Evan Harbour. Also surviving are six sisters, Kathaleen Johnston of Man, Foe Hayes and Hilda Payne, both of Sissonville, Frances Anderson of Parkersburg, Jo Fitch of Atlanta, Georgia, and Myrtle Gobel of Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Damon Stapleton of Pomeroy, Ohio and Tommy Stapleton of Wellston, Ohio; special friends, Lavonia “Cricket” Porter and Billy “Bud” McComas, and many close friends and family. Raymond E. “Monk” McGhee, 79, of Hurricane died June 29, 2000, in VA Hospital, Huntington, after a long illness.
He was retired from the state Department of Highways and a retired strip miner. He was a member of VFW Post 9097, Hurricane.
Surviving: brothers, Frank, Fred and Charles, all of Hurricane.
Graveside service was held July 2, 2000 in Mount Olive Cemetery, Hurricane, with Dewey Miller officiating. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth R. Kersey
Kenneth R. Kersey, 60, of Red House died June 30, 2000 in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Red House and a shop foreman for General Truck Sales with 16 years’ service. He was an Air Force veteran.
Surviving: wife, Ruth; daughter, Amy M. Smith of Red House; sons, James B. Kersey and Shaun P. Kersey, both of Hurricane, Christopher T. Kersey of Robertsburg; Jerry R. Allen of Louisville, Kentucky, and Jason S. Allen of Indian Head, Maryland; mother, Ruby Kersey Badgett of Leroy; brother, C. Donald Kersey of Scott Depot; stepsister, Diana Miller of Leroy; 13 grandchildren.

Ruby Maxine Russell McAfee, 67, of Leon died June 30, 2000, in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio, after a long illness.
She waa a homemaker and a Christian.

McAfee Jr.; daughter, Barbara Adkins of Comfort; sons, Larry Andrew McAfee of Quincy, Roger Dean McAfee of Eustis, Florida and John Wayne McAfee of Clendenin; sisters, Evelyn Copenhaver of Pliny, Lorine Reynolds of Winfield and Sharon Reeves of Charleston; two stepchildren; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Eunice E. McKee
Eunice E. McKee, 85, of Barboursville, WV, passed away Friday, June 30, 2000 at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 3, 2000 at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Ralph Sager and Dr. Ed Grant. Burial in Forest Memorial Park. She was born July 13, 1914 in Wilmore, KY, a daughter of the late Willie T. Hood and Anna Humphreys Hood. She was a member of Steel Memorial United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, James A. “Jack” McKee, and one brother, William T. Hood. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Jeanette “Jan” Hood; one niece, Anna Kinker, and her husband, Sam; great-nieces and great-nephews, Nathan, Hannah, Leah and Seth Kinker, all of Barboursville; her loving caregiver, Norma Toney. Willis Woodrow Ashworth
Willie Woodrow Ashworth, 84, of Milton passed away Thursday, June 29, 2000, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Chelcie Gibson. Interment
in the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. He was born May 10, 1916, a son of the late John William Ashworth and Sarah Alice Jackson Ashworth. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Sowash Ashworth; one son and daughter-in-law, Theon and Dreama Ashworth of Glenwood; two granddaughters, Hannah and Heather Ashworth of Glenwood; two sisters, Ola Mae Dailey of Ona and Lula Lunsford of Milton; and one brother, Roy Lakin Ashworth of Huntington. He was a retired school bus driver for the Cabell County Board of Education with 26 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European sector and a survivor of five major battles. He was a member of the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. He also conducted 32 church singing schools in the Cabell County area. Milton Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangments.

Gracie Mae Beller Rollins, 92, of Eleanor died July 1, 2000, at home after a long illness.
She was a homemaker.

Tori Louise Johnston, 1-year-old daughter of Troy and Victoria Hill Johnston of Hurricane, died July 7, 2000 in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Carolyn Payne Cameron, 49, of Huntington, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2000 in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted at Lewis Memorial Baptist Church on Monday, July 10, 2000 with Dr. David Lemming and Dr. Terrell Bradley officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. She was born November 4, 1950 in Williamson, W.Va., a daughter of Joseph Payne of Huntington and the late Jean Spano Payne, who preceded her in death in 1983. She was a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church, a graduate of Marshall University, and before her illness, she taught at Burch High School. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Stuart Cameron Jr.; one son, Joseph Stuart III of Huntington; one daughter, Cristin McHale Cameron of Huntington; one sister, Connie Piotrowski of Monterey, Calif.; six nieces; five great nieces; and one great-nephew. Edgar Conner, 84, of Milton, husband of Margaret Ronk Conner, died Sunday, July 9, 2000 in Columbia Putnam General Hospital. Clark E. Murrell, Sr.
Clark E. Murrell, Sr., 84, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Milton, W.Va., passed away Friday, July 7, 2000, in Mercy Hospital, Charlotte. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Keith Leap officiating. Burial in Milton Cemetery. Clark was born in Cabell Co. on July 6, 1916. He was a son of the late Edwin O. and Ethel Mae Ryalls Murrell. Clark was also preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Simpkins; four brothers, Harry, John, Tazwell and Bennie and on March 19, 1994, by his wife, Lorain Nicholas Murrell. He was a member of the Milton United Methodist Church, Lebanon Lodge 68 AF & AM, Milton whose members conducted graveside rites, and a former employee of Huntington Alloys. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and John Weaver of Austin, Texas; three sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Linda Murrell of Charlotte, N.C., Clark F. and Mary Murrell Jr. of Milton and Lowell and Carole Murrell of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a special niece, Ann Lowe; one sister, Linnie Queen, and one brother, Floyd Murrell, all of Milton. Gearld Perry
Gearld Perry, 90, of Milton, W.Va., went home to be with his Lord and Savior of 50 years on Thursday, July 6, 2000, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 9 at the Bias Chapel, Milton, of which he was a member, with Pastor Forrest Cummings officiating. Gearld was born in Mason County on Feb. 25, 1910. He was a son of the late Kemper and Lenora Crowder Perry. Gearld was also preceded in death by a son, Don, six sisters and three brothers. He was retired from BASF Industries, Huntington. Gearld is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Edith Edmonds Perry, a daughter and son-in-law, Judy E. and John H. Bias of Culloden; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger G. and Sherlene Mitchell Perry of Milton; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tony and Jean Ann Perry, Aaron and Rosemary Bias, all of Milton, Annette and Jim Henson of Huntington and Joseph Bias of Culloden; three great grandchildren, Tabitha Bias, Courtney Perry and Jeremy Henson; five sisters, Eathel Boster, Pastor Virgil and Mary Beville, Zelma Bevacqua, Elsie Chapman and Margie Reynolds; his twin brother Hearld Perry; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy Lee Howell Diamond
Mrs. Dorothy Lee Howell Diamond, 80, of Milton, W.Va., widow of Tillman Diamond who were joined together on earth in marriage, now reunited in Heaven forever, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at her home following a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 7, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with her nephew, Rev. Mark A. Martin, and a brother-in-law, Rev. Curtis R. Cupp, officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va. Dorothy was born at Milton on Aug. 2, 1919. She was a daughter of the late Clarence and Goldie Adams Howell Sr. Dorothy was also preceded in death by two brothers, C. J. and Gene Howell, and on Feb. 8, 2000, by her husband, Tillman Diamond. She attended the Washington Avenue Church of God Holiness, Milton, and was a homemaker. Dorothy was a member of VFW Post 9796 and American Legion Post 139 Auxiliaries, Milton, and a Pythian Sister.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Deborah and Tom Harshbarger, and Gypsy Easter, all of Milton; four grandchildren, David Don Harshbarger, Lisa Danielle Easter, John Derek Chapman and Carrie Wynn Ferguson; three great-grandchildren, Kayla Brianne Harshbarger, Dale Thomas Ferguson and Mackenzie Hwyll Easter; one stepgrandson, Michael Harshbarger, two step great-grandchildren, Paige Nicole Harshbarger and Michael Garrett Harshbarger, three sisters, Loretta Martin of Milton, Dora Omer of Huntington and Hope Barker of Overland Park, Kan.
Joe Ratliff Jr.
Joe Ratliff, Jr., 76, of Lavalette, W.Va, beloved husband of Ruby L. Blake Ratliff, died July 4, 2000, in St. Mary’s Hospital Huntington, after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, July 6, 2000, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel Barboursville. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born February 25, 1924, in Ohio, a son of the late Joe and Ethel Dunfee Ratliff. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany for two years during WWII and was retired from ACF Industries after 36 years of service. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. He is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Elihue “Euf” and Carol Ratliff of Milton, a loving father to four children, Kevin W. Dudding of Dunlow, W.Va., Lisa M. Hathaway, Gary D. Ratliff and Kristy Ruark all of Lavalette; grandchildren, Gloria Black, Trey Hathaway, Shanne Ratliff, Tori Combs, Samantha and Warren Dudding, Emilee Farley, Taylor Ruark and three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Melton “Babe” Smith
Melton “Babe” Smith, 74, of Huntington, WV, answered the call from his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 28, 2000 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington. He is absent from the body, but present with the Lord. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 1, 2000 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Greg Jordan, Rev. Roby Fraley and Pastor Bill Davis officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Babe was born in Mason County on June 12, 1926. He was a son of the late Freeman and Myrtle Cremeans Smith. Babe was a member of Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church, Barboursville, and retired from Houdaille Industries, Huntington. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Irene Hickman Smith; four daughters, Rhonda Williams of Point Pleasant, Avona Kay Midkiff of Ona, Diana Lane of Huntington, and Glenda Auffant of Milton; one son, Earl Freeman Smith of Ona; 10 grandchildren; one great grandson; and one sister, Tina Bryan of Glenwood. Billy S. Casto, 67, of Given died June 26, 2000, in Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, after a short illness.
He was a retired construction laborer with 35 years’ service and a member of the Laborers Union.

Nannie May Coleman Meadows, 91, of Hurricane died June 26, 2000, in Morris Memorial Nursing Home, Milton.
Surviving: nephews, Benjamin R., Beuford L., William M., Charles L. and Arthur R. Coleman Jr.; nieces, Ethel Gibson and Orma May Vanater; one grandnephew and one grandniece.
Service was held June 29, 2000 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Tim Gilfilen officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park.
Carl L. Pottorff
Carl L. Pottorff, 83, of Titusville, Florida, formerly of Eleanor, died June 23, 2000, in Titusville Nursing Center.
He was retired from the Pipefitters union with 55 years’ service and was a native of Winfield.
Surviving: wife, Hazel A. Pottorff; sons, Gordon L. of Poca and John T. of Clendenin; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Roland Elbert Cummings, 73, of Hurricane died June 29, 2000, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
He was retired from TRW Business Machine Co. with 33 years’ service and from Purolator Courier with 15 years’ service.
Surviving: wife, Norma Jean Cummings; daughters, Diana Lynn Ramsey and Kimberly Yvonne Hayslett, both of Hurricane, and Cheryl Ann Buckholt of Teays Valley; sisters, Ruby Hicks of Intercession City, Florida, Maxine Levis of Groton, Connecticut and Reba Hughes of Kissimmee, Florida; brother, Roger of St. Albans; four grandchildren.

Charles Whitt, 85, of Lesage, W.V, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2000, in St. Mary’s Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 30, 2000, at Milton Funeral Home by the Rev. Gordon Rutherford. Burial in Forest Memorial Park. He was born May 4, 1915, in Mason County, son of the late Boyd Whitt and Polly Leport Whitt. He was a former BASF employee, and served in the U.S. Army. Three brothers and one sister also preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Robinson Whitt of Lesage; two sons, James Anthony Whitt and wife Lisa of Huntington, and Charles L. Whitt of Washington; two daughters, Janet Lynn Stocker and husband Kenny of Huntington, and Cindy Gale Whitt of California; and two sisters, Opal Holcomb of Point Pleasant and Katherine Neider of Pennsylvania.
